IPod not restoring

My iPod won't restore; I downloaded everything needed to restore, but when it says that it is verifying iPod restore with Apple, an error message pops up saying "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9)." I have the latest operating system and version of iTunes, but it won't seem to work. Before this, my iPod was stuck on the apple logo, and so I was left with no choice but ti restore.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free

  • HELP.  IPOD not restoring!

Hi any help would be ever so appreciated.
Saturday on way round supermarket my Ipod stalled and couldn't turn on or off, and basically crashed.
I have tried my best to troubleshoot it to work again.
Fistly I have installed iTunes 7.2
Then I reset the Ipod (1st Gen Nano) by holding "Menu" and "Middle".
I plugged it in to iTunes and got message; "itunes has detected an ipod tat may be corrupted. You may need to restore the ipod before it ca be used with iTunes. You may also try to disconnecting and reconnecting the ipod".
So I click restore on the iTunes options and get the message "there was a problem downloading the ipod sofware for "ipod" the requested resource was not found.
The last message only appeared recently - before that I would get the ipod restored to factory setting and then plug it in and still get told the ipod was corrupt!
Please help me - my life is emptier without my trusty nano!

The message you're getting means that iTunes cannot find the iPod to restore it. You may have to re-register some digital drivers on the computer.
    Try this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996
This article re-registers 10 digital drivers that iTunes and the iPod use, and fixes multiple errors.
If that doesn't work, try unplugging all other USB interference you may have plugged in (USB printer, scanner, external hard drive, etc). If that doesn't work, you may want to try a selective startup (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538).

  • Ipod NOT restoring properly or being recognized in itunes!!!

so yesterday i was trying to (manually)update my ipod and then it somehow got messed up so i decided to just restore it. but when i went to restore it, after it 'restored' it normally says on the ipod to plug it into a wall outlet for the frim wire stuff or whatever but it never said that and it just went to the apple screen as if i had just reset it and then it automatically went into the 'do not disconnect' screen but it still wasn't showing up in itunes but it was showing up in my computer, so then i kept trying to restore it and still it never showed the 'plug into a wall' picture or anything until i finally just unplugged it once it was done restoring and just took it to be plugged in but that still didn't work. and i've tried uninstalling itunes and the updater but it doesn't uninstall, it's always still there and so i tried reinstalling itunes and the updaters but it doesn't seem to make any difference. help please???

no because normally, after the restore, the ipod screen shows a picture of you having to plug it in, and it never did, it simply showed the 'apple' picture (as if i reset my ipod) and then it automatically connects to my pc again and says 'do not disconnect'. and if i did quickly unplug it from my pc after completing the restore, and went to plug it in with my ac adapter thing, it wouldn't make a difference because it still shows the 'apple' picture as if i simply reset it.

  • Please help ipod not restoring

Hi everyone, ive been having some problems with my ipod lately. The 'sync to itunes' screen is showing on my ipod and i forced it into recovery mode in order to restore it. This worked and then my ipod was synced perfectly.
After this i used itunes to update some of my apps and then tried to re-sync my ipod. The apps were synced but all of my music/videos/photos etc were wiped off my ipod. So i tried to sync it once again and it went back to the 'sync to ipod' screen.
Again my only option was to restore it, but now when i try this procedure i just get an 'error 14' message and it doesnt restore.
    Any ideas?

OK - after hours and hours of fidling I have found a [partial] solution.
After posting above I tried restoring my iPod with the Firewall turned off. This changed the Error from (6) to (14) but otherwise the same symptoms.
I used a different computer (Windows XP Laptop) and iTunes to recover my iPod. This was a clean install of iTunes on the laptop. I took the OS 3.0 firmware out of the App Settings folder on my Vista PC and saved onto the laptop. On the laptop I shift-clicked the restore button when iTunes recognised the iPod in recovery mode and chose the OS 3.0 firmware.
Once recovered I completely uninstalled iTunes, Bonjour, Quicktime and Apple Mobile Device Service and used CCleaner to remove rougue registry entries. I also manually moved all the Apple/Apple Computer and iTunes/iPod folders in my Documents & Settings and Local Settings etc.
I then (with great trepidation) plugged my iPod into my Vista PC. I deleted the other iTunes library and its currently syncing with my music library. Fingers crossed the Sync completes.
I hope this helps someone else and I hope that Apple actually takes the crash reports and does something with them - I think its pretty poor that you can't log a support case and that the telephone helpline told me I needed to replace the iPod when there is clearly not a hardware problem.
Come on Apple - sort out your Windows/Vista support!

  • IPod not  restoring, Argh!

Ok, im trying to install a iPod Nano (mini stlye) onto my computer. Im using Windows Operating system.
When i connect the ipod, itunes is telling me that i have to restore the ipod as it is in recovery mode.
After clicking on the restore button, itunes then tells me the following:
"There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
How am i meant to restore the ipod if it cannot find the software to do so?
Why can't it find this software?
    Help, please.

  • Ipod not restoring completely

so i've gone to this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983#Two which shows how to restore my ipod, but at step 6, after restoring the ipod it says "If you see an image of a wall power plug, connect your iPod to the AC adapter that came with it and plug it into a wall outlet and wait for the restore to complete." ---this is what my ipod normally does do but hasn't been doing it everytime i've tried to restore it. everytime i restore it, or try to restore it, instead of having that image of a plug in show on my ipod, it shows a picture of the apple logo(like it's resetting itself) and that's what it's basically doing and if i leave it connected to the computer, it automatically reconnects itself and this whole 'not completely being restored mess' starts all over again. i've tried putting it into disk mode before restoring it but it doesn't seem to make a difference. i think i;ve restored my ipod about 30 times in the last 2 days and nothing had worked.
    photo   Windows XP   help

yes i do have an ipod ac charger, but normally, all the other times i've restored my ipod sucessfully, it shows an image of a plug in on the ipod's screen when it's 'completed' the restore through my pc. but it doesn't do that. and i have tried to just plug it into the ac charger right after (even though there is no image) but it doesn't make a difference.

  • 30 GB 5th Gen iPod Not Restoring

Yesterday I was about 20 minutes into a 2 hour trip and I pulled off at a rest stop. I had my iPod plugged into my Belkin charger and when I turned the car off, the iPod paused. When I turned the car back on, the iPod stayed paused and then reset itself and displayed the sad iPod. When I got home I connected my iPod and iTunes said I needed to restore it, but it couldn't restore. It hasn't been able to at all, and I'm tempted to format the thing in Disk Utility and try again. It generates error 1418.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Error 1415, 1417, 1418, or 1428 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later

  • Ipod Not Restoring Properly

Hey, got a little stuck on this one.
My iPod won't play- it says to connect it to the computer and restore. When I do so, it tells me it's detected an iPod in recovery mode and that I must restore it.
I do so, waiting for it to go through the thing restoring itself. At the end of the process, it says "finished- wait for the ipod to reset itself" or something to that extent.
Once it resets, iTunes again tells me its detected an ipod in recovery mode, and that I need to restore it- right back where I started. The same thing happened in Vista and XP Pro (I'm dual booting), but the problem began before I installed Vista.
Any help I can get on this one would be most appreciated. It's a bit over a year old, so I have a feeling the warranty is gone, though I'll have to search through a filing cabinet of receipts to be sure.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Volm!
A "recovery mode loop" like this one can be caused by drive letter confusion on your computer.
Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps in this article:
