Ipod not scrolling

I have an iPod 5th-gen video. I have replaced the battery and click wheel on it and everything is working EXCEPT scrolling. I can reset it and everything but I can not scroll. I don't know if I have to 'ground' the wheel's cable better. I know there is glue on the bottom of the second cable so that it sticks to the metal of the case. Please Help. I appreciate it!!!

I've noticed the same thing. My ipod touch skips the scrolling of songs listen between G and N. My theory is that it has to do with the track names. I have songs called "G'd Up" which contains a single quote ('). If the letter are grouped in scroll regions g-n would be a single region that is skipped because of the "unusual" character. It's just a theory.
PS: I just renamed the song from G'd Up to Gd Up and the scrolling went back to normal....Then again, when I renamed it back to confirm the bug, the scrolling was still normal...so...synchronizing might fix it too.

  • Ipod will reset but will not scroll

I have just installed a new click wheel ribbon on my ipod nano 5th gen. It will reset, but will not scroll when it comes up with language selection. Any ideas?

If you have dropped the iPod and the click wheel hit something "hard" it may have jammed it slightly under the body. My daughter did this. Not for the faint at heart; but if you did drop it and it jammed, thus keeping the scroll wheel from moving in all directions, I use a thin, sharp tool (sewing awl) on the side that was jammed, and lifted the body every so slightly, and the click wheel went back in place. (I only did this as a last resort or it was buy a new iPod for her!!)
If this is not the issue; a replacement is needed.

  • My ipod will not scroll up or down or left or right how do i set this up or how do i fix it

my ipod will not scroll up or down or left or right how do i set this up or fix it

I think this is a serious design flaw on Apple's part, and I'm surprised it's lingered as long as it has - the monitors are just not adjustable.
About the only way you can raise the monitor is to stand it on something. If you're in an office, reams of copier paper seem to work well, as tacky as that may be.

  • Ipod touch will not scroll properly

My ipod touch will not scroll properly and when I try to click on something it does not open the thing I wanted it to. Is there any way for me to fix this? It's a 4th gen.

First, you may have the accessibility VoiceOver feature or another one turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn them off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:
iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    Next try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Recently I used my ipod at work all night, just like normal. After work on the way home, like normal, I plugged it into my aux port on my car's head unit, and plugged it into power. 10 minutes later, in the middle of going over Ortgea Highway(hiway 74 between Orange and Riverside Counties), it just suddenly stopped working. When I plug it into any of my computers at home, nothing happens, it is not recognized or seen. When I plug it into power, it displays either a "sad ipod icon" or a battery with exclamation mark(!) icon. I have brand new power adapters both for the car and home, plus brand new usb cables, thinking that would help. It hasn't and now, since I opened those packages, I am out that $$ and ******. Since I received this unit as payment for electrical services rendered, I have no idea how old it is. Does anyone have any ideas? ([email protected])

  • IPod not recognised by Windows - here's a possible solution

I spent a good day off trying to work out why my iPod no longer recognised by Windows. Tried everything I could find on here and Apple's suggestions but none worked - dunno how much much extra crap I've put onto my computer.
Anyway, here's what I did to get my iPod recognised by Windows again.
Start Menu, Right click on "My Computer" select "Manage" and left click on "Device Manager". Scroll to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click the + symbol. Right click on "SiS PC to USB Enhanced Host Controller" and select "Disable". Now reboot!!!!
    My iPod is back!

    thanks, adza!
be cautious if trying this on a Desktop with a USB keyboard and mouse. it's possible to end up shutting those down under those circumstances if you disable the high-speed interfaces. see:

we've had problems reported before with SiS chipsets and USB 2.0 ipod connections (from other Australians, indeed). it actually appears to be associated with some generalised problems with the SiS USB 2.0 implementation. there's some troubleshooting info specific to SiS given here:

  • Remote app not scrolling

This is a recent problem, within the last few days....
The Remote app on my iPhone and iPod will not scroll in the Apple TV Netflix screen. I can select the Menu and it will go back one screen properly, but I cannot select any content (for example) in my Instant Queue except for the first item listed. Suggestions? I have restarted the iPhone, deleted the app and re-installed, still not working.

First time replying to any of these forums. Hope this helps someone.  I was having this same problem. I resolved it. What I did was disconnect the power supply to the Apple TV for at least 30 seconds.  I also disconectted my wireless modem for about the same time. As soon as I connected my modem back I immediately proceded and connected the power supply to the apple tv.  My phone app started working instantly.  But the I pad app I had to delete it an reinstall it.  They are both working fine.  I tried a few things before I did this and they did not work.  There is a logic to what I did.  But who cares. It works.  Try it.... If it work great.  I am happy and do not blame Apple for these types of clitches.  Apple Rocks... !!!!

  • Problem *** iPod not working

Lately, I had been having problems with only a select number (maybe five) of my CDs on my iPod not playing. I would select the CD and the first song to play, but my iPod would either freeze or show that the song was playing but no actual music was playing.
I figured that maybe a few music files were corrupt, so when I plugged my iPod to the computer to eliminate potentially corrupt files, it slowed iTunes on the G5 down significantly. It took at least 10 minutes to even scroll down my album list on my iPod since the (possibly) corrupt(?) files were preventing certain other files from being read. I couldn't even put new music on my iPod, which was odd since my iPod isn't even half way to its capacity.
Frustrated, I decided to wipe my iPod of all its files (corrupt or not, 3000+ songs) and reset it, hoping to start from scratch. When I did this, I got an icon on my iPod saying that it was "OK to Disconnect" from the computer and also told me somehow that my iPod was in "disk mode" when really, I have never used it as a hard drive (I have only used it for storing music).
Now, whenever I try to use my iPod, I get either the apple symbol or some odd symbol comprised of a file folder and an exclamation point. It won't even take me to the main menu.
Could anyone please help??? My iPod model was released in the summer of '03 and have only had it for two years. It is a 15GB capacity.
Thank you, but I am quite devastated. Sometimes, I feel like my iPod is my only friend.

I too am having this problem.
This morning my 20gb Ipod froze on me, but after pressing Play and Menu a few times it started to work. Now tonight it has frozen and there is no way that the playlist I was trying to play is even going to start. It's been sitting, saying it's going to play... but the song is not even moving nor is there any volume. I can't go to the Menu, change songs or even turn the Ipod off! This Ipod is driving me insane... I hope someone can help me out!

  • IPod not syncing on Windows or Mac

My sister recently purchased a Macbook. I tried using her iPod to move her songs from her PC to the new Mac (as mentioned elsewhere) but it didn't work. I ended up just wiping the whole ipod and moving songs with a USB travel drive.
When I synced up her ipod to the Macbook, I restored it to format it for Mac. The songs started to load and about 3/4 of the way through her library I received this error message.
"Attempting to copy to the disk <ipod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have tried using the "Disk cannot be read" troubleshooting page, but none of these suggestions help - it is a brand new Macbook - she literally bought it yesterday, and I have tried to use both a firewire and a USB cable that work fine with another ipod and computer. Disgruntled, I tried hooking up the ipod again, once again restoring it since data categorized as "other" was showing up on the iPod on the iTunes summary page. Once again, a few songs in we got another error message.
"The iPod <name> cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have restored the iPod on the Macbook three times now. Each time, it goes through restore, and then when it is syncing with the music library it gives the error message as above, iTunes freezes and I have to either forcequit or manually remove the ipod.
Giving up, I figured I'd just load the songs onto the iPod from the PC. So I reformated/restored for Windows and synced up the iPod. The first error message I got was:
"The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive F: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."
I unplugged the ipod and there was only one song on it. I plugged it back in and it started to sync only to give me this error message a few minutes in.
"Attempting to copy to the disk <name of ipod> failed. An unkown error occurred (-53)."
Now iTunes on the PC is frozen and I'm really confused and don't know what to do. She has an older iPod (3rd generation, dock connector) that has given her some problems over the years but nothing like this. Unfortunately, she's traveling tomorrow and really wants her iPod and music with her. At this point, neither the Mac nor the PC will load the music onto the iPod. What do we do? Also, she has Applecare for her new Mac, but it looks like the issue is with the iPod, not the computer - if I call them will they help me fix it? Should I bother trying to bring the iPod and the Mac into the local store?

    Now it gets even weirder.
I tried plugging the iPod into a third computer (PC) which belongs to someone else. The computer restores, syncs and loads all of his songs onto her iPod perfectly fine.
The only thing that makes sense is that there's somethng about one or more of her songs that's causing this problem. Is there anyway for me to find out which songs are doing this?
