Ipod not showing up in finder or itunes

I had to replace my old ipod and got this new 5th generation video one. i synched it once and haven't done it again in about 3 or 4 months, now it won't show up in finder or itunes. Tried reseting it... nothing. have upgraded to itunes 7.1.1, still nothing. i can't restore because it doesn't show up anywhere...any suggestions?

I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, then reinstalled
iTunes. Then I reset the ipod once I connected and
VIOLA! Now it works (2 trips to apple store and 1
replacement ipod later!!)
Not to sound lazy, but not sure I want to go tthrough all of that?...
I have 3 connections chords, and two other iPods that show in iTunes no problem. This 5th gen video iPod will just not show up in iTunes or mount?Tried all the solutions posted around and nothing. It is fully charged (does charge etc.,) just won't show on the computer. It is a friend's iPod that I manage, so something might have happened while not in my care?
Anything else....? I've spent way too much time on this...

Hi, just recently my ipod has started acting up. It's an ipod classic.
Nothing pops up on the desktop. Nothing shows up in itunes. When I connect using it's USB cord, it says it's synching and connected. I've reset the ipod a few times and even tried to locate it in Disk Utility. It sees it but it's greyed out and when I run Repair Disk on it, it stalls forever.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my ipod noticed so I can wipe & restore settings?

Two days ago, I restored my Ipod classic using Itunes 9.2.0.61. After restoration my Ipod started freezing Itunes and Vista. At a point, I saw a blue screen and my computer forced a shutdown. When it rebooted, Vista kept asking to automatically "scan and fix" problems on my Ipod. Thinking that would solve the "freeze" problem, I stupidly went ahead to have Vista scan and fix my Ipod. Now the freeze problem is gone, but *_my Ipod does not appear in Itunes_*. I have tried the five Rs from Apple, but that has not helped. Anyone with a solution?

Updated iTunes and iPod software iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes

Updated software since computer said there were updates. Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices. Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting. Nothing helped. Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well. Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod. (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod. Just shows up in iTunes. HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up. I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

IPod not showing up in Windows explorer / iTunes - not responding to reset

I have updated my new (1 day old!!) iPod nano to the newest firmware (1.1.1.)... and now I can't use the iPod anymore.
It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. When I try to connect to it via Run, it says: 'E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
When trying to open Windows Explorer, it freezes - not showing any harddrives.
When trying to connect to it via CMD (dos)... It reads: 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
I have tried all the soft resets, hard resets etcetera. I have uninstalled the USB driver for iPod, uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled them both, used different USB ports. But still no success.
I can't connect to it via iPod Updater, because Windows won't connect to it.
The iPod itself does respond, although I can't find any data on it anymore.
How do I get my iPod to work again: connect to my windows / iTunes player? Please, any help is appreciated!

I have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.
As said: as for restoring the iPod - I can't get any contact with my iPod with my computer at all.

3rd generation nano iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes anymore??

When I plug in my 3rd generation iPod nano to my mac OS x 10.7.3 and open iTunes it does not show up under devices anymore. Why and how can I fix this so I can start transferring my songs again?

Is the sidebar showing?
If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

PLZ HELP ME!!! i need to know what i can do to fix my iPod...i already tried reseting it and the whole thing with the hold button!!!! the problem really is that when i hook up the dock connector to the iPod..the iPod doesn't light up like usual..yes it is charged so that isn't the problem....oh plz help me!!

We've had this problem since the release of iTunes 7
The problem is NOT the iPod (we've got several replaced from Apple). The problem is iTunes and some Windows-drivers.
Still, we haven't found which drivers that causing the problem, but if you install a new copy of Windows XP with SP1 and the iTunes, it works. But after installing a couple of programs, SP's etc, it fails!
Then iTunes says your iPod is corrupt and want you to restore it. When trying that, it stops and says it can't do that. Changing drive letter etc doesn't help either.
However, if you use an older version like 6.0 it works but ONLY if you have NOT installed 7.0 -> before. Uninstalling 7.0 want work.
This is something we have reported to Apple but they don't care about it at all. Which not is so bright as you can replace the iPod during your waranty and that cost Apple alot of money and time.
"We" are 9 computer technican's and all of us have iPod's. This message is only valid for iPod's over 30GB. iPod Nano etc is NOT affected

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano and I have had it for about a year. I tried plugging the iPod into my computer (Windows), but my computer and iTunes do not recognize it. The first few seconds when I do plug in my iPod, I go to My Computer and I see my iPod with my name beside it, but after about 2 seconds, it changes to Removable Disk :F and then it disappears completely after another second. Last night, when I upgraded my iTunes version, the iPod connected fine, but today, my iPod has not been recognized at all. Help please?

IPod not showing in my computer or ITunes

I have had my IPod video 30Gb since Christmas 2005 and have had no problems at all with it until now... The last time I connected it to my PC it just showed the battery charging symbol and it never appeared in ITunes. I am doubly confused because my husband has the identical model (albeit 3 months younger) and his still works fine. I have tried resetting my IPod, using a different USB cable/port, reinstalling software and nothing. I would like to try restoring my IPod but don't know how to do that if it isn't recognised by ITunes.
Has anyone else had this problem; if so how did you solve it?

Why isn't my iphone showing up in finder or itunes?

My iphone4 is not showing up in Finder or Itunes.
I have the latest Itunes software 10.4. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8
I have tried restarting and resetting the Iphone. Updating Itunes. Restarting the computer.
It is actually my daughter's Iphone and she is getting ready to go off to college and really needs to update & sync her phone.
Please help.

i don't want to be that guy on the fourms adding to a 2-year-old topic, but you might want to try updating iTunes. The current version is 11, and that might help with getting the computer to recognize it.
Also, have you tried unlocking your phone before plugging it in? That would resolve most mount/unmount errors.

Hey there,
A file or some files may have become corrupt somehow during connecting or disconnecting the unit. Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if that helps. To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode.
If you are able to do this, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod to its original settings. Keep in mind that by doing this you are erasing all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on your computer somewhere. More on restoring your iPod can be found in the Apple document below.

Did you remove and reinstall all the Apple software by:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Run this to see if it helps determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
Try on another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem'
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
