Ipod not syncing freezes

ipod 80gb classic freezes itunes after transferring a fraction of my music, then ipod says it has no music. Freezes itunes and can not get back

I'm not sure that if this is exactly the same problem you're having but it sounds similiar...
I have just purchased a new ipod classic 160, and have attempted to sync it with my itunes 9.1 library. It managed to sync about 3 Gb and then an error message came up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I then tried manually transferring the music and was successful with some of the music, but with other tracks the same error message came up. I performed a restore on the iPod, as I initially formatted it on a PC, not my Mac, and thought this might be the problem. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. As far as I can see there is no pattern to the tracks that it won't load on (well not to my eyes anyway). I would be grateful for any suggestions as I'm off traveling in a few days time without my laptop and can't imagine myself without my music collection!

    Trudy,
Make sure your iPod is configured to sync this playlist from under it's Music configuration tab in iTunes.  You can access this tab when your iPod is plugged in.

  • IPod touch sync freezes

iPod touch sync freezes at calendar sync, wired or wireless. Have rebooted computer and restored ipod to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help. After running "Activity Monitor" and going through the iTunes/iPod Touch sync process I was able to determine the suspect application that most likely caused the conflict.
While watching "Activity Monitor" almost immediately an application called "CNQL1208_ButtonManager" crashed - locking up the computer. I was able to determine by checking out a few bulletin boards that this application is the culprit in more than one problem on both Macs and Pc's. It's an app that gets loaded at start-up, which monitors the buttons on the front of my Canon Scanner (Model LiDE 35). Part of the CanoScan software download/driver for this model. I trashed this file and everything appears to work fine. In fact, the sync with my iPod touch seems to happen much faster.
The other possibility is that there was a conflict with PalmBackground Monitor, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
Thanks again for the Activity Monitor suggestion.

  • IPod not syncing on Windows or Mac

My sister recently purchased a Macbook. I tried using her iPod to move her songs from her PC to the new Mac (as mentioned elsewhere) but it didn't work. I ended up just wiping the whole ipod and moving songs with a USB travel drive.
When I synced up her ipod to the Macbook, I restored it to format it for Mac. The songs started to load and about 3/4 of the way through her library I received this error message.
"Attempting to copy to the disk <ipod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have tried using the "Disk cannot be read" troubleshooting page, but none of these suggestions help - it is a brand new Macbook - she literally bought it yesterday, and I have tried to use both a firewire and a USB cable that work fine with another ipod and computer. Disgruntled, I tried hooking up the ipod again, once again restoring it since data categorized as "other" was showing up on the iPod on the iTunes summary page. Once again, a few songs in we got another error message.
"The iPod <name> cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have restored the iPod on the Macbook three times now. Each time, it goes through restore, and then when it is syncing with the music library it gives the error message as above, iTunes freezes and I have to either forcequit or manually remove the ipod.
Giving up, I figured I'd just load the songs onto the iPod from the PC. So I reformated/restored for Windows and synced up the iPod. The first error message I got was:
"The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive F: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."
I unplugged the ipod and there was only one song on it. I plugged it back in and it started to sync only to give me this error message a few minutes in.
"Attempting to copy to the disk <name of ipod> failed. An unkown error occurred (-53)."
Now iTunes on the PC is frozen and I'm really confused and don't know what to do. She has an older iPod (3rd generation, dock connector) that has given her some problems over the years but nothing like this. Unfortunately, she's traveling tomorrow and really wants her iPod and music with her. At this point, neither the Mac nor the PC will load the music onto the iPod. What do we do? Also, she has Applecare for her new Mac, but it looks like the issue is with the iPod, not the computer - if I call them will they help me fix it? Should I bother trying to bring the iPod and the Mac into the local store?

    Now it gets even weirder.
I tried plugging the iPod into a third computer (PC) which belongs to someone else. The computer restores, syncs and loads all of his songs onto her iPod perfectly fine.
The only thing that makes sense is that there's somethng about one or more of her songs that's causing this problem. Is there anyway for me to find out which songs are doing this?

  • IPod not syncing

My iPod is not syncing with my iTunes! When I plug it in, my iTunes freezes and so does my iPod. I thought restoring my iPod would help, but now I have an empty iPod and it is still not syncing. At least now my iTunes doesn't freeze... just the iPod freezes with that "Do not disconnect" message. Every time I try to sync my iPod, I get this error message: "The iPod cannot be updated. The required file cannot be found." I thought maybe there would be a problem with my iTunes so I re-downloaded and re-installed it. Still the same problem.
I have all the up-to-date software (iTunes and iPod) and I've tried the 5 R's many times.

  • IPod not syncing since installing Windows 8.1

I've just installed Windows 8.1 (jumping up from Windows 7) on my PC.  Installed iTunes, then plugged in my iPod.  Sync never even started up, though iTunes did open when I plugged in the iPod.  I checked under Devices and Printers and I see that there seem to be two instances of an iPod there - one under Devices, and one under Unspecified.  When I unplug my iPod from the PC, the first instance disappears but the instance under Unspecified remains (it's called Apple Mobile Device USB Driver).  The first instance, under Devices, calls itself "Apple iPod USB Device" and it returns when I plug the iPod back in, so that's the instance that seems to be associated with the actual iPod.
Apple iPod USB Device has a yellow exclamation point next to it, and when I check under Properties for it and and then check for Properties under the Hardware tab I see a "Windows is uninstalling this device (code 21) message.  This message never goes away, and Windows never actually uninstalls it.  I can choose uninstall, and have done so, but when I plug in my iPod again, all this simply comes back.
At one point earlier today, iTunes began to "sync," but what it was syncing to I have no idea, because the iPod remained exactly as it has been - no new songs, no message in its little window saying it was syncing or anything.  The "sync" lasted quite a while, and then when it finally finished, absolutely nothing had changed in the iPod.
So, even though plugging in the iPod starts up iTunes, they're just not seeing/talking to each other.
I've run the iTunes diagnostic, and it says it finds the iPod, but it also says (with a green light next to it) no usb ports found and (with a green light next to it) no firewire (IEEE 1394) ports found.  It says All Tests Passed.

I had the same symptoms and similar recreation steps.
Updating the Apple Mobile USB device driver spelled out in step #2 http://helpios7.com/trust-this-computer-pop-up-fix/ fixed the problem for me.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Not Syncing or Charging

I'm having problems getting my ipod to sync or charge. I've tried my wall charger and it's not detecting it. It's not being detected by my computer. I've tried 2 different cords and replaced the battery. I haven't had any problems with it. It's been clicking for awhile which makes me think the hard drive. So now I'm here. ^_^ Can anyone help me please? I just want to make sure it's the hard drive before I go and spend money on another part. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

    Hello Seirra I,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The clicking noise very well could be signs of a failing hard drive, but before we make any final assumptions or decisions, let's just make sure you have tried everything you could.
Have you worked through each potential troubleshooting solution provided in these Apple support documents? You stated a couple of troubleshooting techniques in your post above, but it wouldn't hurt to try the rest of them at this point right?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Another option is to see if you can get another computer to recognize it. From there you can determine if the problem lies with your iPod or your PC.
If not luck with any of the above, I would definitely recommend getting the hard drive replaced. You can either opt to do it your self, have it serviced by Apple, or a third party company repair it for you. That decision is entirely yours.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod not syncing with iTunes

Okay, I checked the other topics here but I don't see anything that quite matches my issue. I recently (like many others) updated to iTunes 9 (I'm using Windows Vista), and now my 5th Gen 30gb video iPod won't sync. I'm not getting any error messages, it's just... not doing anything. I click on 'sync', and the button fades like it usually does when it starts to sync, but it only does that for literally a second and then it just stops and goes back to normal. Nothing updates, nothing happens. It's still charging, and it's recognizing that it's connected, it just WILL NOT SYNC.
It's making me really sad. Anyone else having this issue? What should I do?

I hoped the updates to iTune 9 (iTunes 9.0.1) would resolve my issue but it has not. My 120GB iPod Classic does indeed sync with iTunes perfectly with one exception. Like OldWhiskers, my Smart Playlists of video podcasts will not sync with my iPod. The playlists work fine on my White 17" iMac (running Mac OS X 10.5.8... so it's not a Snow Leopard thing), but after syncing my iPod, the podcasts don't show up on the playlist under my iPod in iTunes or when I disconnect and look at them directly on the iPod. When look at the iPod, the smart playlists in question do not show up at all, but in iTunes under my iPod it says they're on the iPod, but there are no podcasts in those playlists. And it's not the podcasts that aren't syncing. They're on the iPod under podcasts, but just don't show up in the smart playlist on my iPod or under iPod in iTunes. So until this is resolved I'm just watching my podcasts smart playlist on my Mac and not even bothering syncing the podcasts to my iPod. I would have to constantly navigate to the next podcast every time one finished. Very annoying. Smart playlists have me spoiled and are the reason I bought an iPod and use iTunes over Zune and other alternatives... so fix it, cause that HD Zune would look nice docked to my HDTV.

  • IPod not syncing with iTunes 7

    Hello,
I've been using an Intel iMac with iTunes 7 and a 30GB fifth generation iPod. Everything was working fine until I installed iTunes 7.
I've managed to sync all my Music with my Ipod. But if I try to change some of the iPod settings within iTunes, and save those changes, the iMac can't find the iPod to sync! It says something like "waiting to connect to iPod" and then "iPod not found". The iPod is in it's dock, connected via USB to the iMac.
I can't believe this problem has anything to do with hardware, as everything used to work smoothly with iTunes 6. Like I said, since upgrading to iTunes 7, the iMac is having trouble connecting with the iPod.
    Any thoughts?

iTunes 7 + iPod = many sad people. Has anyone had any luck? I am unable to "Enable Disk Use" for the same reason that others above have had. I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem.
I have read about some with the same problems that have had success using this article. May be helpful to some of you (it didn't work for me).

it came up with an error for the calendar sending the info or something like that... when i turned off calendars it came up with the origional error-merging data... when i told it to replace the notes with the data on the computer it said an error occured while sending the data to ipod... i am thinking that it is outlooks fault... it isn't taking anything or talking to itunes it would seem... any other notes program that i can get itunes to sync with? or is there a way of getting outlook to work again?

  • IPod not syncing music

I have an iPod 5 with the latest update. And in addition to the other problems I have met with this new iOS7, the biggest is not syncing music. At first it just didn't sync new music. I would unplug it and start over and resync many times but to no avail. I eventually removed all music and then tried readding them and now only the first song of each album shows up. Then I tried restoring the iPod and that appearently made it worse because now less songs than before are showing up. I have over 2000 songs but still plenty of room for more so that can't be it and the songs that do appear now appear twice for some reason. One is apparently the purchased file and the other one is for icloud.

    Hello nobunaga1981!
This is the forum for iPod Touch, your query should be posted on the iPod Classic forum. In regard to your issue, Have you authorized and deauthorized your computer in iTunes to sync content from that computer to your iPod? as you have changed hard drives on your computer.
Or another option would be to uncheck "Sync Music" apply the changes and then check it again and apply the changes,
and see if that sync's content onto your iPod.
    How old is the iPod?
I would've recommended that you try a restore on the iPod, but from your post I see you have done multiple things to try and fix the problem. If the above options don't work, the only advice I can give you is to drop in to your nearest Apple Store and make an appointment at the Genius Bar to check the problem out.
Hope you get it sorted soon. Good luck! If anyone has experienced the same issue, post your solutions or recommendations.
    Best,
    OrlaG

  • 4th gen click-wheel iPod not syncing

I have a 40GB 4th Gen click-wheel iPod that although works fine will not sync with my iTunes. I have done all normal troubleshooting items (5R's, restored factory settings, etc.). I am running it on an HP computer and have all software versions up-to-date. Specifically when I place the iPod into the docking station the connection begins, but then a loud whirring occurs and then the "Do Not Connect" message does not go away and I can't eject it. I have no warranty on the unit anymore and need to know if there is a fix or should I just take it to Apple store for troubleshooting.

Its a problem with iTunes 7. Many people are experiencing the same problems.
