IPod Not syncing in iTunes. 7.6 - stuck on do not disconnect as below

Re-posting as a separate message as it may not have been noticed as a reply. I'm having a similar problem to the one noted in 7.5 but it appears I have iTunes 7.6 and a 5th generation 80g iPod. Been syncing it to my new MacBook with OS 10.5.2. Originally iPod was configured for PC but I had no problems after the change to the Mac. Seems like the problem syncing has started after downloading the latest update software for Leopard (to the 10.5.2) which included other things in the download (perhaps also Quicktime and iTunes?) This problem with not being recognized in iTunes happened twice in one week - only way to get it going was to do a reset while it was still plugged into the computer (cause it said do not disconnect) but the second time it took many tries and holding down the menu & select for a very long time. It finally was recognized and the sync started. This has me very worried and I don't think the 5Rs and other troubleshooting suggestions are the issue (it was fully charged & I've used the USB ports for other devices with no problems, etc.) Please advise. Can't give it up to service for over a week 'cause going on a trip and sure hope it will continue to work.
MacBook 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.2)

I'm answering my own question for the benefit of others who are having a similar problem. As no one answered here, I finally called Apple support. The tech walked me through resetting my MacBook - not the iPod and it worked! To reset it, shut down. After completely shut down power back on and when you hear the on chime immediately, really simultaneously press option, command, and the P & R keys all at once (one needs some manual dexterity for this). Keep all the keys pressed down until you hear the chime a second time and release. The computer should then start up. After all booted up I opened iTunes, connected my iPod and it synced fine.
Of course, now I'm afraid to download any new updates.

  • 2nd Gen Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download new song

My Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download newly purchased songs.  It is Ipod nano 2nd gen.

If you want to use automatic syncing, you may need to set up or update the iPod's Music sync settings in iTunes.  If the new songs are not included in what gets synced to the iPod, they will not sync.
If the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Select it there, to show its Summary screen to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music, if not already checked. This is the "switch" to enable automatic syncing for songs.
NOTE:  If Sync Music is not already checked, that means the iPod is currently set to Manually manage music.  Setting up automatic syncing will replace the iPod existing content.  If you want to add the new songs manually to the iPod (instead of using automatic syncing), please post back.
If your iTunes library fits on the iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, select (checkmark) what you want to sync to the iPod from the lists.
One convenient way to set this up is to first create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, with ALL of the songs you want on the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selection(s) to the iPod (replacing its existing content).  Going forward, to update the iPod, you can just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  If you have new songs, add them to a playlist that is synced to the iPod.  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates your iPod with the same changes.

I had this problem.  I held down the power switch to power down completely.  Takes a few seconds.  Then use the power switch to turn on.  Might take a couple goes.

I would be concerned too if my iPod wasn't able to complete the syncing processes. I recommend following the steps in this tutorial to address and issue like this:

  • Ipod stuck "Verifying iPod" when syncing to iTunes

I have recently purchased an iPod touch 64gb. After a few days of using it and successfully syncing it more than 6 times it froze on "Verifying Ipod" I have search everywhere and found several different forums about this issue and most of them offer the same solution, update the iTunes and iPod software, or did not posted the ultimate fix that got them going. I am now running the latest versions on both which resolved the issue. After doing that and successfully syncing a couple of times I am having the same issue again. Below are some factors that may help in identifying the issue.
**iTunes is authorized with the same ID as the iPod
**All applications that are currently on the iPod were downloaded directly to the ipod. None of them are sync'din itunes yet
**the applications are either free or free from the http://www.freeappaday.com/ site
    **the iPod is NOT jailbroken
**all software and firmware is up-to-date
**the only difference to the iPod since the last successful sync was all the applications that I installed
Hope this is enough to work from. While I could "restore" the ipod I would lose all my apps that are not sync'd. Additionally the games that I download from http://www.freeappaday.com/ are only offered free for a particular day so I would have to pay for them now. Since this has happened to me twice in 3 weeks I am thinking I am either doing something wrong or there is something wrong.
Again there a several different threads out there about this issue, but none of them have a solution aside from update and/or restore.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what changed, but I have not had the issue for the last 5 syncs. I did perform some unusual steps to get to where I am. Again I am not sure what made the difference, but below are the steps that I performed for anyone else's reference.
    1. Connected iPod, it again froze on Verifying Ipod and Syncing Ipod.
+Note: These messages were displayed on the information display on iTunes. You would have to click the 'Play' icon on the left side of the message to toggle to each message.+
    2. I toggled to the Sync message and click on the 'X' icon on the right side of the message. This stopped all syncing/verifying.
    3. I clicked the 'Sync' button on the bottom right of the iPod screen in iTunes. This manually launches sync. From some reason I do not get the Verifying iPod message. Not sure this is because it is not performing this function. I am going to guess that is correct as I can successfully sync the iPod at this point.
    4. I had to perform this work around three more times during my testing. Since then I have downloaded more free apps and I have not had an issue since.
If I were to take a guess as to what might have caused the issue, maybe downloading several apps (10+) on the iPod and then trying to sync it. Unsure. If I have additional information I will definately update this post.

  • Album art does not display on iPod after sync with iTunes

I synced my 1G iPod nano to the new iTunes 7, and it did not seem to fully sync my iPod. I downloaded some album art onto some songs and they dont display on my iPod nano. Does anyone have the same problem as I do? Much help would be appreciated

I was hoping I could find the answer here. I have a 60GB Video and before v7 about 30% of my albums had art that I found and attached myself, they showed up on my iPod. With v7 I chose for iTunes to get my album art and it did, all of my songs had corresponding art to go with it, when I plugged in my iPod to sync last night I just let it run because there are so many. This morning I get my iPod and I play a song, nothing, then another and another and still no art but when I open iTunes, I see the album art. What gives?

  • Please help! I can't get my iPod to sync with iTunes on my PC?

This problem is really frustrating and I would really appreciate some guidance because I'm completely stuck. I have been trying for many hours over the past few days to get my iPod touch to sync with iTunes on my PC. When I plug my iPod touch into my PC, iTunes opens up and this message pops up:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have completely removed iTunes from my PC several times and reinstalled it several times but this message continues to pop up and its really annoying because I can't put my music onto my iPod. I have followed instructions on the apple website which were to temove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel and then restart the PC and reinstall iTunes again. I've tried this several times and it simply didn't work and the error message continues to pop up when I plug my iPod into my PC. I really need to know what is the software required so that I can use my iPod with iTunes on my PC. I can't explain how much I'd appreciate help with this. Thanks in advance.
Do I need to install software on my iPod or on my PC? :S

Two ideas, but what version of Windows? what versions of iTunes? did you manually remove what the uninstaller left behind as outlined in Apple support article?
Did you upgrade to iOS 5 or not? what version? what about your iPod Touch model?
    Backup its backup. Backup content.
USB is directly connected to a motherboard port?
Have you had to restore the iPod?
Also, many have pointed finger at Apple Mobile Service needing to be restarted first, then launch iTunes and then connect iPod.
Create a new Windows partition and use that to do a clean install and for testing. Always works.
Some security software. Microsoft Security Essentials does an excellent job, free, works.
I have not read or seen "the req'd software is not installed" mentioned by others, but could easily miss (new to iPod + iTunes myself and there were so many threads when iOS 5 came out).

  • IPod cannot sync with iTunes

Hello everyone. I have a small problem with my brothers iPod. It cannot sync with iTunes, but mine can sync perfectly. We have the same iPod (Nano, 2GB) but his is black, and mine is white. When the iPod is plugged in, iTunes freezes for a minute or two and then keeps going. When songs are being updates, it freezes, and sometimes says that the source cannot by written to or read from, Any help?

Oh and note that sometimes iTunes thinks its a White iPod but really is Black.

    Or

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

  • Can't get iPod to sync with iTunes

I managed to back-up all my music from my ipod onto my harddrive and upload it into iTunes. Now I have the problem of syncing iTunes with my iPod!
I have Windows 8 a 5th Gen Nano that is at least 4 years old.
I can plug my ipod into the computer and it instantly recognises it on the E drive. As soon as I open iTunes I get a message and the E drive disappears as if I had never plugged in the iPod. I have installed and re-installed iTunes and rebooted my laptop. The message says an iPod has been detected but not identified properly (there is a ! in a triangle).
What do I do to rectify this issue?

Thanks I found this on the discussion board. It solved the problem. I can't find the original source anyway this below explanation did the trick. It was a file that I needed to install and this did the trick.
    Open File Explorer, go to:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    Afterwards, look for the file
    “usbappl64.???“
It'll be the one labelled as "Setup Information"
    Right click the file.
Click install. It should only take about a minute. Afterwards it'll say that it was successful.
Restart your computer, and your iPod should sync as normal.
