    Hi there,
Firstly, try a hard reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn't work, try restoring your device. Put it in recovery mode if iTunes doesn't recognise it, and restore it from there. I have linked to instructions below.

Let me know if this helps,

  • Does your IPOD not turn off properly??? Does it click with the screen off?

    Guys,
I know there is someone bright out there,
I have recently bought a Ipod 5g black 60gb, and the thing wont 'turn off' I believe appple call it shut down. Am i right in saying it goes to sleep, and thats it, the screen turns off, and it goes to sleep??
The strange thing is, the clicker wheel sometimes still clicks if you rub your fing over it, (screen off) and obviously pressing any button turns it fully on.
The two clicking noises are different, sometimes it sounds as if you are turning the volume up, and down, or other times it just sounds like you are scrolling through a music album list.
Apple tech support, wasnt very helpful and she suggested the 5 r's well done them, and still not working, i have found a medicore solution, and that is to put the thing physically to sleep, ie have a shortcut, to sleep on the main menu, and this turns the display, can anyone confirm whether this is the same has holding down the play button?
(would a diagnostic check pick this up)
Obviously, i am worried about the battery, because it wont turn off. I tried testing the copacity of the battery, but i cant, as for some strange reason, i cant rip (geniuine) AAC or MP3 music at the desired, level, for some reason cant hear it at all? or it just sqeulches.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone experienced anything similar, or if the great person who invented this cool thing, is reading, please post a reply!!
    Thanks for your time,
ps sorry fpr the long post!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    See this for more info...
About Sleep, Deep Sleep, Hibernation, and Sleep Timer
The iPod doesn't fully turn off for a while. (Hibernation, or even more "Off", Deep Sleep).
When you manually turn the iPod off (or it turns itself off), it goes into sleep.
After you turn it off, it may still make noise when you rub your finger on the clickwheel. This may occur for about a minute. You could always activate the hold switch after you turn it off.
But it is normal for the iPod to make the clickwheel noise when you rub your finger along the clickwheel right after the iPod is turned off. It may take a minute or so to fully go into "Sleep."
Again, everything you are experiencing is normal. Read that link for more info as well.

  • My iPhone will not turn on, Help?

About two to three hours ago (give or take) I was having issues with connecting/syncing my iPhone 4 to my iTunes on my Laptop, thankfully that problem is solved. Now I am facing a weird issue, my phone stopped working- it will not turn on, almost like it's dead. I tried charging it, thinking that the battery was low and it died. Yet, the last time I was on it, the battery was at a 82 percent. I had also tried to reset it (press Home/Power button at the same time) and it still does not turn on. I'm confused and worried about this, does anyone have helpful information?

I was using my 3G ipod touch and i slid the power off button to turn it off and the loading screen before it shuts off wont allow my ipod to turn off. i cant do anything because my ipod has the loading screen still on it. HELP!!

Try a hard reset.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Then try shutting your iPod off again.

  • Problem with Nano 6G, It is recognized with all music in iTunes, but the screen of the nano itself will not turn on, help?

So, as stated it works perfectly fine on itunes; this meaning that all the music and the hardware information shows up on the computer, but the screen will not turn on when plugged in or when by itself, and the battery is fully charged, any one know how to fix this?

Read the PDF user manual for a possible solution:  iPod Manuals, search through Apple's Knowledge Base for support Articles and/or iPod Nano Support

  • MY IPOD WONT TURN ON HELP?

I tried to charge my ipod and nothing comes on! I have used 2 different cords, is it something with the ipod

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone will not turn on, help please!!!

My phone will not turn on! The apple logo comes up for a couple secs then it turns off. It does this even when plugged into wall and computer, any help would be greatly appreciated because I can't get on iTunes to restore it! Thanks!

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • When I connect my iphone 5 to charge, repeated again and again the charge sound, but does not turn! HELP!!

help with iphone, you may not start and repeat the sound over and over again that the screen is broken?

    Hello obrunaga,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.
I recommend following steps 2-6 below for an issue like the one you described:
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPhone before performing the restore:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Ipod not recognized, please help!

I am the recent owner of a 4th generation ipod nano, I also have a 2nd generation Ipod nano which works fine but when I plug in the new Ipod it says USB device not recognized and has malfuctioned. It is also not recognized by Itunes but my other Ipod works fine. I do not have the receipt for the Ipod so I cannot just go in and replace it unfortunately and I don;t think it is the cord because my other Ipod seems to work fine. I have tried updating my itunes and even uninstalled and reinstalled it but the same message pops up. The Ipod is dead and won't charge when connected to the Ipod but the screen turns on and it registers that it is connected. I have read a bunch of responses saying go in to the disk drivers and try and unistall and reinstall it but the Ipod just registers as unknown device and is only there for a few seconds because thats as long as the Ipod is recognized by the computer. Please help before I go crazy!

Try restoring the iPod, you'll find instructions here:

  • Ipod NOT turning on, won't reset, won't charge and isn't recognized by PC

I've had my 120 Ipod Classic since the end of 2008. Before I went to bed Saturday, I plugged it in to the USB port to charge overnight while my computer was still on. I wake up Sunday and my ipod is completely dead. It won't charge or turn on. I've tried resetting it and still nothing. I have not seen the screen lit since Saturday night and have no idea what could have happened. Could it be the battery? My computer nor Itunes isn't even recognizing it. I also plugged it into my macbook and again, it's still not recognizing it. What in the world is going on? Four days later and I'm still stumped. PLEASE PLEASE help me.

If you upgraded to Itunes 9, there's the problem.
Itunes 9, unfortunately, corrupts any Ipod Classic that was purchased around a year ago. We haven't really found an exact manufacturing date for the Ipods that are susceptible to corruption.
Sorry, but you're probably out of luck like the other Classic owners out there.

It wouldn't hurt to take it to the nearest Apple store, though.

Scary thing is I have put less than 300 hours total on this ipod. I'm sorry but for $250 I would expect to get more than ONE year out of it!
You did, you got 20 months out of it. It has a battery with limited charges. If you did not condition it properly it dies sooner just like all batteries. Furthermore, we only have your word that you put 300 hours into it.
There has got to be a reason they are on what...5th generation? I work in manufacturing every time we make a new product due to "upgrades" it's usually because what you have doesn't work very good. I bought in April 06 and they have now gone through how many redesigns? sorry - that excuse doesn't cut it.
    lolz
Glad you don't work in any industry with competition.
In the electronics world if you stagnate you go out of business. Same goes with cars, clothing, and the majority of things that are sold. Clearly, your approach is asinine given the marketshare and trillions of dollars that products that refresh with new versions make every year. And again, you can complain all you like but it worked just fine for well over a year and a half. It wasn't a manufacturing problem that caused it to suddenly fail. Maybe one of those kids of yours got to it when you weren't looking? That sounds much more probable than spontaneous failure.
And, no. The Nano is on its 3rd generation. One generation for every year its been sold.
