IPod not turning on or being recognized by Computer and Mac

I put my iPod down onto a shelf to play some Wii Fit (c) but when I came back from playing... my iPod didn't want to turn on. So I thought Oh, Okay just a regular problem so I went to my computer and started to put it into DFU mode... so I started and I was like.. How come I don't hear my bells on my computer telling me that I plugged something in... so I thought something must be wrong with my PC. So I went to my laptop... same thing happened...nothing... so now I am stuck with an iPod that won't be recognized by my computer.....
I might have to send it into Apple, but I live a bit far away, so I could send it up there but it might take time to come back down..
Anyone else have any suggestions??
All help is appreciated,
Thanks

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • IPod nano (5th gen.) being recognized by computer (Windows XP) but not iTunes. Please Help.

    Hello everyone,
When I plug in my iPod nano 5th generation, my computer is recognizing it, but iTunes is not. I just recently bought it off of a friend and it was working perfectly. Today is the first time that it wouldn't connect to iTunes. I have tried using different USB ports and that didn't work. I plugged in my sister's iPod Touch and it worked fine. I don't want to have to try to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for fear of loosing some of the information on there. I have also read several things that say that that doesn't work, so I don't see any reason to take a pointless risk. If there is anything that I can do to get it to work? I would try another computer, but my home computer is the only one that I have. I really need to get it to work ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!

If you check other error problems linked to this issue (example errors 1437 and 1439), you will note that these recognition issues have been prevalent for a lot of iPods (not only nanos and suffles) since iTunes version 7.5 went away. Seems like Apple doesn't have a clue, and doesn't want to have a clue. Many people all over the world have come up with things that have worked for them, but none of those fixes are working for me any more. Maybe this is just Apple's way of forcing people to buy their brand computers. It stinks. I am at a total loss as to what to do to get my Nano recognized at all in iTunes, and my Shuffles to sync. Obviously we are all venting our frustrations on an Apple hosted discussion board. Equally obvious is that no one at Apple is reading this stuff, further displaying that Apple simply does NOT CARE.
If I ever in the next couple of years or so (see, I am not very optimistic) get an HONEST answer out of Apple, or a workable solution elsewhere around the internet, I'll do a follow-up post here. But, I am not very hopeful. I think my iPods have just become expensive chunks of junk, because I am NOT going to buy an Apple computer just for them.

  • Ipod 7th Gen will not turn on or be recognized on computer.

My Ipod has been doing great. But this morning a friend gave me her speaker dock for a Ipod. I decided to try it out and I plugged it in. It is one of those Ipod docks that has the functions to switch to radio and alarm and then to Ipod and so obviously I was trying to figure it out. When I did find the function for Ipod, I pressed play and did not hear anything. a few more trys here and there and then I noticed my Ipod went black...as in turned off. So I took it out to turn it back on and no good. Even tried hooking it up to the computer and as well the Ipod nor the computer registered. EVen tried my second computer. Please...someone help.

For starters, try to Reset the iPod
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • Ipod not charging, turning on, or being recognized by computer....

hi. i turned my ipod on and it kept popping up the folder with exclamation point. so i went to the support webiste and did everything it told me to do. however, it didn't work. and now, my ipod doesn't charge even though it's plugged in securely, it won't turn on, and my computer doesn't recognize it so i can't reformat it or anything. and yes, i have tried resetting it. please help!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You have posted an iPod question in a different forum. I would post your question in the correct forum for your model iPod:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=146
Also, it will be very important for you to supply everyone there with some additional information. Do you have a Mac or a Windows PC? Which version of the operating system are you running? Have you tried a different cable? Which version of iTunes do you have? This information will help someone in the correct forum to point you in the right direction.

  • Ipod NOT restoring properly or being recognized in itunes!!!

so yesterday i was trying to (manually)update my ipod and then it somehow got messed up so i decided to just restore it. but when i went to restore it, after it 'restored' it normally says on the ipod to plug it into a wall outlet for the frim wire stuff or whatever but it never said that and it just went to the apple screen as if i had just reset it and then it automatically went into the 'do not disconnect' screen but it still wasn't showing up in itunes but it was showing up in my computer, so then i kept trying to restore it and still it never showed the 'plug into a wall' picture or anything until i finally just unplugged it once it was done restoring and just took it to be plugged in but that still didn't work. and i've tried uninstalling itunes and the updater but it doesn't uninstall, it's always still there and so i tried reinstalling itunes and the updaters but it doesn't seem to make any difference. help please???

no because normally, after the restore, the ipod screen shows a picture of you having to plug it in, and it never did, it simply showed the 'apple' picture (as if i reset my ipod) and then it automatically connects to my pc again and says 'do not disconnect'. and if i did quickly unplug it from my pc after completing the restore, and went to plug it in with my ac adapter thing, it wouldn't make a difference because it still shows the 'apple' picture as if i simply reset it.

  • Ipod not  turning on even when hold the sleep and home button?

i have charged it for a while nothing happened. Tried the sleep and home buttons, still nothing.

    Try restarting instead of resetting...
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have three ipods, none of which is being recognized by my itunes. I have the current editions and tried different USB ports. The mouse works just fine in the USB port. I have reset the ipods. Any ideas if it's the USB or the ipod or what's going on?

I have three ipods, none of which are being recognized by my itunes. I have reset each ipod, with no results. I wonder if the problem isn't with the USB ports. The mouse works fine in each port; nothing happens when I plug in the ipods. I have tried two different USB cables. I have no other USB devices with which to test. I have made sure I have the most recent updates and rebooted the computer.  Any idea what is going on?

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!
