Ipod not visible in itunes on 2nd & 3rd PC

3 day old Shuffle. Loaded itunes on home laptop (XP), no problems. Want to be able to play through computer at work (XP) and home PC (XP). Loaded itunes on work PC. Plug ipod in, computer recognizes it, bring up itunes, warning pops up about only being able to sync with one computer and if I want to sync with this computer, to reformat, or cancel. I don't really want to "sync" with work PC, just be able to play through it. I click cancel, and as soon as I do, the ipod is no longer visible in mycomputer. At no time is it listed under devices in itunes. After going through this at work, I tried it on my home PC. Same thing. As soon as I click cancel, the ipod is no longer visible. Am I overlooking something? I know you can only sync with one computer. I'm ok with that. But, I should be able to at least play the ipod through itunes, correct? I'm not so worried about it for me, as I have other options, but I'm thinking more for my parents. Mom got a Nano and I'd like to find out if there's an answer before going through the same scenario with her home PC (XP) and her work PC (unknown OS). I've been through a bunch of the online Apple support and I can't find the exact same problem. I can connect back to my home laptop anytime with no problems. For the record, the laptop is a 7 year old HP that was ME edition OS that's been upgraded to XP. The home PC is only like 2 or 3 years old and the work PC is 1.5 years old, so it shouldn't be an "old hardware" problem. I did have to go into mycomputer/manage/devices and reassign the drive letter on the work PC, just like I've had to do with all the coworkers' jump/flash drives. Once that was done, the ipod would show up just like it should, in mycomputer. But then, after bringing up itunes and the single computer sync message pops up, you click cancel, the ipod disappears from mycomputer. Like I said, it does it on the home PC also, and it recognized the ipod as soon as it was plugged in (work PCs were setup so you couldn't plug stuff into the usb ports for your typical reasons). Thoughts?

The Shuffle is different than other iPods. I don't think that you're going to be able to use it the way you want. The Nano should work that way, however.

Ive just installed the latest version of itunes and everytime I connect the ipod mini to the pc all I get come up is a box saying rachel's (my name) IP (I:) and there are 3 folders; calendar, contacts and notes.

In looking at your other posts, at no point in time did you start your own topic, you piggybacked on the other thread. It's always suggested that you start your own topic rather than posting in the manner that you have done. I would suggest you go back to the "Connecting color iPod" forum, start your own topic, & hang tight to see if someone comes along. You will have to be patient, remember it's the weekend & people have other things to do besides hang out in the forums. Thanks!

HELP, Ipod nano 4 GB v 1.2 not visible in itunes v7.02.16

I did the update for Itunes v7.02.16 and after this my ipod nano 4 GB firmware v1.2 was not visible in itunes but in de windows explorer it was shown. I was more then a hour on the phone with a support guy, with the result (his opinion) that it was a hardware problem. His advice was updating the usb driver. I did, but the problems was not solved. I did the same install on 2 other computer and all gave the same problems, I've tried all the solutions on the faq etc, the 5 R's etc.
A strange thing is that de diagnostic in Itunes tells me all the information about the connectec ipod, it shows the serial nummer. name, busspeed, firmware etc.
WHO can help, my mind is empty.

I am having a similar problem. However, I have not updated my USB drive. How did you do that?
For the support guy (or gal)...I have an iPod nano 2 GB and when I plug it into my USB port (I have 2 ports and have tried both) iTunes opens but doesn't recognize that my iPod is connected. When I run iPod diagnostics through iTunes it says iPod Connection Status-Failed, even though it is connected. I cannot sync my iPod via iTunes. I have tried numerous troubleshooters on the apple.com support website without any success (reinstalling iTunes, etc.) I took it to an Apple store this weekend and when they hooked my iPod up with my cable, their Mac recognized my iPod. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Elements 11 albums not visible in iTunes for synching

I've recently upgraded from Elements 8 to 11. New albums created in organiser 11 are not visible in iTunes for synching to my iPod. All of the albums created in Elements 8 are still visible. Is this a bug or is there something I need to do to make the new albums visible?

Yes I’m sure Adobe think it’s a third party problem and probably have little interest in synching with Apple devices. It’s a bit disssapointing and whilst Mac users can sync with iPhoto or Aperture, the majority of users will be using Windows and will wish to sync their PSE11 albums. Hopefully Apple & Adobe will talk to each other.
There is a work around but it involves first creating the album in PSE10 (or your earlier version) and importing it into PSE11. It will then be recognized in iTunes when you connect your device and click on the Photos tab. Let me know if you want instructions.

Ipod not recognized by itunes

My ipod mounts on the pc, itunes does not see it. An error pops up saying that the ipod is write protected...???? I restored it, reinstalled, rebooted. Not sure what other steps to take.. Thansk for any help.

Hi! I own a 160g ipod classic. What is happening is I plug it to my macbook pro and it sits there thinking for a long time, after which two dialogue windows appear, one that says the device was ejected incorrectly and then another one that says that the ipod could not be synced because it could not be found. Then the ipod freezes on the do not disconnect screen and I have to reset it in order to get it going again. Can anyone help me?? PLease!! I'm in charge of music for New Year's Eve! Thanks so much!!

"podcasts" is not visible in iTunes after software update

iTunes no longer shows "podcasts" as a category. I have several active subscriptions--they seem to have disappeared. All of the other usual categories (e.g., music, TV shows) are still there. This occurred immediately after I downloaded today's iTunes upgrade. I have tried downloading more podcasts. That happens fine--but they are not visible from iTunes after the download.

I can re-check the "podcasts" box in the Windows version. It's not grayed out. But there doesn't seem to be any way to save my changes. Didn't the "preferences" dialog box used to have a "save changes" button at the bottom?

You would have to let itunes rip the songs from the cd's, or you would have to copy the music from the computer which ripped cd's.
iTunes does not support transferring music from the ipod unless it was purchased from the store.

You'll need to copy the music from the old iPod back to iTunes first before you can transfer it to your new iPod. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Gen2 ATV not visible in ITUNES 10.1.54, any others?

Cable-connected.
Have opened port 3689TCP and 5353UDP in NETGEAR FIREWALL.
I can see ATV in the firewall, it gets syncronized, it has an IP,
but not visible in ITUNES, Weird.
I can see my library in ATV etc..my computer..
The ICON ATV in ITUNES was there when I had Gen 1.
HAve done a total factory reset, entered all info and such, started homelibrary etc.

ATV2 won't show up on your library list as it does not store any media on the internal storage other than buffering. Where as the ATV1 had a hard drive with media stored on it would appear in the pane as shared media.

Error -50 is a timeout error. Apple's advice on how to resolve this is:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

According to your profile you are running v10.6.3. Click your Apple menu  / Software Update. That will update your system to v10.6.5.
Then repair permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Now restart the iPad.
Now try syncing the iPad with your Mac. If that didn't help, click here
Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X for further instructions.
