IPod not working in iTunes 8.2.1.6 and TS1363

A question about Knowledge Base entry TS1363:
I have been tring to get my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen to work with 8.2.1.6. I notice that Apple has added more suggestions for fixing the problem I have. I am use Windows XP Home with SP3.
When I connect the iPod, Windows recognizes it as a USB Drive, but it does not show up in the "My Computer" screen of Windows Explorer.
I went through the procedure detailed in TS1363 to restart the "iPod Services".
After completing the procedure, the iPod shows in the Explorer screen. When I start iTunes, it recognizes the iPod. It shows the contents and indicates that it is syncing. I tried deleteing a song and then adding a song. It appeared to work with the exception that it did not show that the song was being copied. The song just appeared in the iPod menu after the Sync was done. I could not play the song though, via iTunes. I tried to add more songs, but got a Windows error that it could not find the Drive. (Note: I have not tried the drive name change yet called out in TS1363)
This prompted me to try the iPod Service restart several times, and I got the same results with the exception that iTunes would or could not load any songs. iTunes recognized the iPod, but other than showing the contents would not interact (play songs, etc.).
*Now for the question: Is it normal for the iPod to drop out of the Explorer Window for My Computer when iTunes Syncs the iPod?*
Note: don't tell me to use the iPod Reset Utility, I,ve done that several times, and it does not help. I got that to work once with an auto fill, and it has not done anything since. The iTune Restore does not do anything either.
Also, with the exception of changing the iPod drive name, I have done everthing else called out in TS1363.

Hi Nanonfsmw,
If you want to check what you have installed on your computer, you can look in Measurement
and Automation Explorer (MAX) under the Software expandable menu. If
you do not see Traditional DAQ in this menu, then it is not installed. If you
see it in the menu, but you do not see the VIs in LabVIEW, make sure to Repair/Modify
your installation and be sure to add Support for LabVIEW 8.2.1.
Since this is an example program, there is no support documentation. If there
are any inputs that you would like to control manually, you are correct in
thinking that you should simply create some front panel controls and route them
to the appropriate inputs.

  • After Security update, FireWire iPods not working in iTunes 7.0.2

    Hi all,
this past weekend, I installed the latest Apple security update and restarted my Mac.
Everything was working fine until I connected my iPod mini (via FireWire) and realized that although the iPod is mounting on the desktop, it is NOT appearing in iTunes. My other iPod, a 10GB 3G iPod, is also experiencing the same problem. The exception to this is my son's 512MB Shuffle -- it's working just fine.
I've tried all of the following, to no avail:
    1. changed FW port
    2. reset iPod
    3. restored iPod
    4. deleted and reinstalled iTunes
    5. ran Disk Utility and DiskWarrior and "repaired" iPod hard drive
    help!

I have both a frist gen. and a fifth gen iPod and both are working on my iMac, which runs iTunes 7.0.2 and it's OS is up to date with the the latest security update.

  • IPods not working since iTunes 7.2 and song upgrade

Anyone else experiencing issues since upgrading to 7.2?
My 4th gen iPod has started skipping songs -- never had any issues with this one before.
My 5th gen iPod(video) has seemingly bricked. Select+Menu reset feature doesn't have any impact. The screen flickers and then freezes.
Oddly enough, iTunes 7.2 works just fine from what I can tell. The new "Plus" songs play just fine on the computer.

I'm having the exact same problem after the iTunes 7.2 upgrade. Some songs won't copy and I get the 'cannot be copied/file format not supported' message - though all of the formats are the same. I tired restoring my iPod twice but no dice. The songs copied fine before the upgrade.
For me, it seems to be just songs that I purchased from iTunes, burned to an audio CD and then reimported as MP3s. (I've done this a few times for various reasons.) When I reload the original purchased files to my computer from backup, then try to copy those to the iPod it works. Maybe that's a clue.
Hopefully an update will fix this. It's a minor annoyance, but still...

  • Ipod not working on ITunes :S

My Ipod Touch is fairly new.. but it has been connected to Itunes many times. Today, i connected my Ipod and it came up with the message:
"Iphone detected, but has not been identified. Please disconect, reconnect and try again"
    1) Its a Ipod Touch not an Iphone.
    2) I tried disconnecting and reconnecting many times, and still no success.
Any ideas what it could be?
    Help Appreciated.
    Hannah

Have you tried resetting your iPod Touch? (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button with the Home button for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears.)
Are you connected via a USB hub or directly to a USB port on your computer?
Make sure you've got the latest version of iTunes on your computer too.

I reinstalled itunes like 3 times , reinstalled the ipod program and it still says the same thing

Check out these two documents which address the issue.
    "Please Reinstall iTunes" message appears
    Fast User Switching
Disable fast user switching in contol panel/user accounts/change the way users log on and off.
There are other methods of putting songs on the iPod using software such as Ephpod and other such programs.

  • IPods not working with iTunes 12.1 or OS 10.8.5

I recently tried to sync my old Gen 3 nano to my newest laptop. It wasn't recognized in iTunes 12.1. Thinking it was just old, I bought a shuffle, only to have iTunes 12.1 tell me there was an issue and to uninstall and re-install iTunes. When looking at the tech specs for my new shuffle, I notices that the OS requirement was OS X v10.6.8 or later, and iTunes 10.7 or later. Since my computer is more up to date, does that mean that these devices aren't supported?

jeffd55 didn't say it explicitly, but every iPod ever made *should* sync with the newest Macs (you'll have to get a couple of adapters to make the first two models work). If it's not coming up, you just have a software issue to debug.
The only within-Apple incompatibilities involve newer iDevices and older Macs (nothing with iOS7 or 8, or a Lightning connector will sync with any PowerPC Mac).

  • Ipod not working on itunes?

  • IPOD not recognized by itunes when its plugged in and recharged

can't get itunes to recognize my shuffle when its plugged in. ipod works with what already loaded on it but I can't change anything cuz itunes doesn't see it! I installed latest itunes updater and ipod updater to no avail and everything else the website suggested. HELP!!!!!

I get exactly what your describing and I noticed we are using the same laptop!!
I did not notice originally as I've got an old 40gb click wheel, about 3/4 years old. The battery is not great so assumed it may have been that but even fully charged I'm getting no luck.
I also followed the 5 r's and all the other suggestions for Ipod in My compute but not in itunes but nothing has worked. I cannot get my laptop to recognised my ipod via Itunes but it see's it fine via My Computer.
Both the Ipod and Itunes work fine without each other, Ipod plays songs fine etc and Itunes downloads music from cd etc and still performs all the usual functions but nothing else works.
I'm desperate for help as I run every day and buy a new cd each week and at this rate I'm going to have to dig out my old CD player!
Also just a point of note I looked the price to get my Ipod serviced as I figured this may help but the price quoted from apple was £160+...you can get a new 30gb for less...talk about customer explotation!!

    Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Sorry that your iPod isn't recognized. The following articles should help you sort out what is going on and get your iPod working again. I didn't see if you are using OS X or Windows, so I included the articles for each.

  • Ipod not recognized in itunes, stuck in recovery mode (tried everything)

I've had my ipod touch for about a year now, and the other day itunes told me I needed to download the new software and such. FYI, I use Vista (unfortunately. Probably not helping with the problem).
I am aware that this is a common problem. I have *tried everything* I can find at the moment, when I plug it into a different laptop nothing happens.
    - I download itunes 9 etc and suddenly it says "ERROR OCCURRED" or something, I don't remember the error message too well (sorry).
    - This didn't surprise me, I am used to itunes/ipods messing up on me. So I wait a while, and download the new software again. It installs.
*- A screen on my ipod appears with the itunes logo, a usb cable and "itunes".*
    - I connect the ipod to the laptop. Nothing happens. Vista pops up saying:
*'Windows needs to install driver software for your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)*
    - Locate and Install driver software (recommended)
    - > Ask me again later
    - Don't show this message again for this device'
I click the first, it asks me for a disk {which obviously I don't have), when I click 'show me other options' it tells me it couldn't find driver software. Clicking on anything from here results in nothing or failure to find the driver or whatever.
*I've tried everything on this site including* rebooting, reinstalling, completely destroying any trace of itunes and associated programs on my computer (using Windows install cleanup too) and then installing again, manually disabling/enabling/repairing/everything else under the sun to the driver in the driver menu. The same thing happens every time.
So uh, any help? I've backed up everything on my harddrive so I'm open to practically anything. I'm so sick of errors with ipods, I've never had so much trouble with any other gadget ): Maybe I'm just cursed lol.

After hours of searching for a fix I may have found one on a Mac Forum. This worked for mine but I had to restore it from the last back up. I also gave me the option of restore to new condition (out of hte box) but Ichoose from the last backup that itunes made. It took about 4 hours to fully restore all my 24gb of material. BUT,Now it's working perfectly. For how long...who knows?
Here's the link to the page where I found the info. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=447185
Below is the solution that worked for my 2nd gen 32 gig.

the ipod should power up, and if if is screwed up, will be in recovery mode... from there itunes will tell you that it finds your ipod in that mode, and needs to restore it.
just click restore, sit back and it should work again.
did you hack it at all?
if you did not hack it, and that doesnt work, call applecare and see what they say. maybe it is faulty?
still, from my experience with my friends ipod that i made 100% unusable, there is a way to restore even the most broken ipod as long as it has a battery charge.
i suspect a small portion of the memory is dedicated to keeping emergency boot files that allowe you to restore, no matter how bad things get."

  • Ipod not recognised by iTunes after latest Ipod Updater Software loaded

    Hi
Can you please help as I can't get my Ipod to work anymore with iTunes. I recently did a "clean-up" of my computer and removed a lot of old files to speed up my computer and whilst doing this I upgraded my iTunes software with the latest Ipod Software Updater. However, I can't get my iPod to work with iTunes anymore. I plug in my iPod and it starts to say "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod screen but then it doesn't show up in my iTunes so I can't update my iPod.
I tried to use the iPod Software Updater "Repair" option but this just freezes my system and doesn't recognise my Ipod. I also get the error "Write Failure on this disk" showing up in the icons near my Computer Clock when I plug in my Ipod.
I've tried doing a system restore back to when the ITunes worked with the Ipod but this didn't fix it. I've tried removing iTunes and the iPod from my computer and then reinstalling them from the software from apple.com but it still doesn't work. The problem being is when I've deleted ITunes and the Ipod Installer I've lost my original HP + Ipod installation disk so maybe I'm missing some essential system files? I've used the Ipod Software Installer from apple.com to install the iPod files but I'm not sure whether I need the files from the original installation CD. Can I find the installation CD files from anywar
    Please help!!

  • How can I get my ipod to work with itunes?

When I connect my ipod classic into my new computer it seems that itunes does not recognize it. How can I get my ipod to work with itunes? I'm afraid to disconnect my ipod because the display is saying Do Not Disconnect.

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
