IPod not working with headphones or input jack

I guess I'm probably effed, but I dropped my iPod mini today, and now it only works thru my computer. not thru headphones or input jacks. I imagine I damaged my input device.
Any ideas?

Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty (or warranty does not covering the dropping)and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk

  • Smart connect not working with headphones

smart connect app has stopped working with headphones, have tried emptying data and also restored the phone to factory settings, but still nothing with any pair of headphones, I have installed the soundabout app and all headphones are working with that, so wondering if it is a software problem rather than the headphone jack that is the problem, any advice please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You tried a factory reset - Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so backup what you need 1st - This is not the same as a factory reset but will achieve the same outcome
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Ipad will not work with headphones of any description

Hey, just bought myself a new iPad 32g WiFi. I'm really disappointed to discover I can't get any earphones to work with it at all - even my iPhone 4 and my old iPhone 3 Apple earphone will not work. I've tried a generic brand - they won't even fit properly. The speakers on the Ipad are not loud enough to listen to a movie or anything anywhere there's the least bit of background noise. What's the answer please? I've done an internet search where everyone says push them in harder - I cant push them in any harder without damaging them! Please help!

SOLUTION: Headphones don't work on iPad
I had the same problem: suddenly my headphones didn't work on my iPad. All the headphones (3 pairs) worked on my iPhone, so I knew the problem wasn’t with the headphones. The sound worked fine from the iPad speakers, so when I unplugged the headphones, the sound returned. I called AppleCare Support and tried everything they suggested, including restoring it to the factory settings. Nothing worked, and they authorized a replacement iPad.
The new iPad arrived, but it had the same problem, so I knew something had changed in the iPad's programming. I went online and found that many others were having the same problem, but no one offered a solution. However, someone mentioned that the problem first occurred after installing the latest OS (4.3.3), which is when my iPad’s problem occurred. Next, someone else wanted to know if there was a mute switch that needed to be turned off. This started me thinking...
To make a long story as short as possible, I played around with the controls on my old iPad and discovered the following: Apparently, the latest OS has added a safety feature to protect our eardrums (that’s nice, but it would be even nicer to have been notified of this change .. even the support technicians were unaware of it). Previously, when you listened to the audio through the iPad’s speakers, the sound was so low that you had to turn the volume up as high as possible to hear it. Then when you plugged in the headphones, the sound blasted your eardrums as you frantically lowered the volume.
    (PROBLEM:)
Now, however, WHEN YOU PLUG IN THE HEADPHONES, THE IPAD AUTOMATICALLY MUTES THE SOUND. When you unplug the headphones, the sound is automatically restored through the speakers, giving you the false impression that there is something wrong with the headphones or the headphone jack.
    (SOLUTION:)
So after plugging in the headphones, you have to use the volume button to bring the sound back up to the desired level. When you press the volume button, it will say “headphones” on the display to let you know that you are adjusting the sound for the headphones only. The speaker volume retains its previous setting (maximum volume).
So, the solution is quite simple… just turn up the volume after you attach the headphones.

  • Hard drive broke. ipod not working with new computer

    Hello,
My computer hard drive recently died on me.
I got a new hard drive installed and I downloaded a new version of itunes (I think the latest) but when I connect my ipod to my computer, although it turns on the ipod, my computer isn't reading the ipod. I tunes isn't being started up and when I start it up manually it doesn't read my ipod either.
Someone at work here suggested it may be that the version of itunes I have installed is not compatible with the ipod I have. My ipod is a couple of years old at least. Can that be possible?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

  • IPod not working with any type of speakers

I have a 30gb video ipod. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I used it with great results in my car, with an itrip and at home on an iboom. Then it just stopped working. The strange thing is, it is not a hardware problem, because when I connect it to either of those, or to my PC, it recognizes and charges the ipod. The ipod lights up as if it is ready to play, but if I put a song on, no sound comes out. Just to be safe, I tried my friend's ipod on both and it worked fine.
I ran diags on my ipod and everything is fine. I have reset the ipod. I have updated my software to 1.2.1 on the ipod and 7.3 itunes. I know I can try to restore it, but I don't want to, unless it is the only way.
The "genius" in the apple store said he has never seen anything like this before. I have an appointment with another genius on Monday, but I was hoping maybe you guys would have an answer for me....I have always had more luck here than anywhere else.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Nicki

I've been having the same problem. A couple of days ago, i bought memorex ipod speakers and alarm clock and they didn't work at all with my 30GB iopd. I tested it on my dad's ipod (he has the exact same one as i do) and on my sister's nano and both worked, and i even went and tried my sisters speakers, which are just speakers with no alarm clock, and the ipod worked on there, so i decided to just return my new speakers and exchange them for ihome ones. This time, the speakers worked, but i had to control the songs by using the play and pause buttons on the ipod itself, when i'm supposed to be able to use the controls on the speakers and on the accompanying remote. Since the console can't control my ipod automatically, the alarm can't use the ipod when it goes off. Instead, it has to use the beeping sound. Again, i connected my dad's and sister's ipods, and, again, both of them worked perfectly. I, too, have tried everything to try to get it to work with no avail. I really hope i don't have to restore my ipod
Please let me know if anyone has figured anything out about what's going on.
    Thanks!

It is possible that your power supply cannot supply enough power if you have some other usb devices like a printer connected all the time. Also, is the iPod not being recognized in iTunes or "My Computer"?

  • Ipod not working with my computer.....help

ok my ipod been like this since 5 months ....the problem is that my ipod will not connect to my computer i tried everything but everytime i try to connect it it just sits there and a couple of seconds the recharge bettery logo shows up. i tried deleting all my music in my computer and reinstalling itunes but it is still is the same. i tired connecting it to other usb cords and tried connecting into diffrent ports on my computer but still nothing... can someone help me pls because i cant upload nething into my ipod and im tired of listeing to the same songs now thx........

after 2 weeks of searching apple.com and other forums online for why won't itunes work, i bought a windows compatible mp3 player (Creative Zen Nano) and it wouldn't work either so realized it was my OS. since i am not computer smart at all - i got someone to reformat my PC - had to save everything to disc that i would need after - as i guess doing this restores your computer to the day you bought it. But after itunes worked with no problems....good luck.

  • IPod not working with new iTunes

As soon as I downloaded the newest version of iTunes, it stopped recognizing my iPod. iTunes says the iPod is synced with another library and it's not. I even erased everything off the iPod and synced it up again just to be sure, and when I plugged it in a second time, it gave me the same error message -- iPod is synced with another library. Please help!

ok so i did what ya said and put it into disk mode but still nothing comes up in itunes or mycomputer.
okay, it's possible that you've got a defective unit there.

  • ITunes and iPod not working with one account

    Hi
I have iTunes 9.0.1 running on 10.6.1 on a MBP and I have just bought a new 5th generation iPod Nano.
I have been trying to set up the iPod on my partner's account on my MBP. iTunes just freezes every time I plug in the iPod and needs a force quit. When I try to set it up on my account it is recognised straight away. I have also been able to set it up on a new account but I cannot find any way to stop iTunes freezing on my partner's account. Her account works perfectly otherwise.
Strangely the iPod is seen by the Mac OS on my partner's account in that I can browse it in finder and the icon appears on the desktop. It is just iTunes on this one account that does not work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Any thoughts?

  • IPod not working with iMac

    Hi
I recently switched from a G5 to an iMac and am having problems using my iPod. It appears on the desk top but is not recognised in iTunes so I cannot transfer or organise music from my iMac to the iPod. Do I need to 'sync' the iPod to the new computer, and if I do this, will I wipe clean the whole of my music on the iPod? Or do I need to back up all my music on the Cloud in some way. Thanks in advance.

    Hello John
It all depends on if you started a new iTunes Library or if you migrated your iTunes library. If it is new then yes you will have to start over. If it was migrated from your old Mac then it should sync just fine. Now if you are having issues with it being seen in iTunes, I have provided an article for that issue.

  • Why are the Radio Adapters that work on my iPod not working with my iPhone?

I had purchased an adaptor to plug into the bottom of my iphone to play the music from my iphone of my radio. I purchased one of the adapters and it worked for a month then it stopped working and the iphone quit playing the music over the radio... However it showed that it knew a device was plugged in. I have tried 2 more models and have had the same problems. Is it the iPhone?? I am confused as to why it is not working... Below is one of the three products I tried
    http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2974855&cp=&sr=1&kw=fmtransmitter&origkw=fmtransmitter&parentPage=search

i dont use those, so im going to guess that its because it needs to be labeled "iPhone compatible"...since its different than a regular iPod

  • Gen 6 ipod not working with 09 subaru sat radio adapter

The cable to the radio interface which worked with an older nano, steering wheel controls and all, works intermittently with gen 6 and never charges. Am using a work around right now. Very kludgy.

The adaptor cable now charges the unit, but full function only works if I plug the gen 3 unit in then connect the gen 6 unit. The full radio and steering wheel functions work as normal until I turn the key off at which point the radio says disconnected. I now suspect the radio software or firmware is the problem. By the way, the car dealer had no idea the cable was available until I showed them the Subaru support site.

  • Will Apple repair an ipod? sound does not work with headphones.

I had this iPod for only a few months.  I plugged in my headphones one day and only heard a crackling sound. Is this repairable? I have not damaged it or dropped it since owning the device.

    - Have you tried other headphones?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If the iPod (or the Apple provided headphones) are defective and not abused, Apple will exchange it at no cost.
