IPod OK on windows XP, Mac OSX, but not Vista
Just got a new (refurbished) 5th gen ipod 30G. It syncs fine to my mac OSX laptop. It also syncs fine (after restoring) to my Windows XP laptop.
But when I connect it to my windows Vista (the preferred laptop per the primary user of this iPod) it will mount in the OS and show up as a removable drive (F:) and I can click on the drive and see the default directories.
When I launch iTunes, I wait about 5 minutes then I get an error "iPod found but the name is not recognized. Try disconnecting the iPod and reconnecting" and it never shows up in iTunes.
I did get it to show up once in iTunes, and tried to do a restore, but after the restore ran for a while, it gave an error "iPod could not be updated. Device can not be read from or written to" (error paraphrased) and gave an error code 1437, I think.
I've tried restoring it on each of the OSX and WinXP machines before trying to connect to the Vista machine, but I get the same results each time.
All the messages I can find say that 5th gen iPods should work fine with Windows Vista but mine isn't working...
That sounds odd that one Windows OS is working, but the other is not. Is there anything in your logic that could change the view states of these controls? If you'd like, I'd be willing to also take a look. Feel free to send your project or installer to [email protected] and I'll try on my systems.

After you install a new hard drive, you need to boot to another drive to initialize it to MAC OS Extended (journaled) format and create the partition(s) on the drive. You do this using Disk Utility. Otherwise, the mac operating install process doesn't see a formatted disk to install to.

hello. am having some problems. previously, i was using my iPod with iTunes for Windows. As I now have a MacBook, I have the latest iTunes and have all of my songs in the library.
When I first plugged my iPod in, it recognised the iPod model, software etc, and i clicked on the restore function. iTunes stopped responding, and so I forced quit. Each time i now plug the iPod in, it appears on my desktop, but not on the device panel in iTunes, so I have not been able to get to my iPod preferences to reset. I have tried to reset the iPod iteself but this does not seem to have helped.
If anyone can offer me any help, would really appreciate.

We also got a brand new ipod nano, not the new video one, the older one, it was a back to school promo thing, anyways, I got that one all setup no problem, just plugged it in and was good to go.
So I have to install some software on the mac for the mini?
Been doing more reading, sounds like I might have to erase the memory of the mini somehow, not sure how?? But what about my 1200 songs on the PC, how do I get those over to the mac and into itunes? -

I'm new to the whole mac thing. I don't own one yet, but I hope to soon. But I've wondered if there was a way to changed the look of the windows on Mac OSX. Sorta like using WindowsBlinds from StarDock on the PC? With WindowBlind I can make my windows resemeble OSX or BeOS, Linux, or anything that the skin designers choose (windowsblinds.net).
Is there a similar program for OSX?

i am try to identify the right development framework and technology for developing GUI application which can run on windows and mac osx.
i am sure that there will be specific handling for both of these os, but at the same time there could lot of code can be same.
is it possible to fulfill requirements of both these OS's through single code base. As of now i am more experienced with Dotnet C# on windows.

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?

Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page. -

Hello, I am trying to reinstall Mac OSX, but my computer does not read installation cd. After restart, I hold C but either eject cd or doesn't read and computer boots up normally. I even ordered a new pack of installation cd, but still the same problem. Is there anybody can help me fixing this issue, because my Macbook pro has lots of software problem and when I spoke to tech, they said it needs to reformat and reinstall the OSX to solve all my problems. Possible solutions:
You need to hold the c key down before booting
You need to use the built in keyboard, you have other hardware connected
You need the machine specific 10.6.4+ disks for that machine, the retail 10.6.3 disks won't work
There is a firmware password on the machine preventing the at boot key command functions
Try the option key for Startup Manager to boot from the disk, right after the "bong"
Your Superdrive lense is dirty or not operating, other hardware issues
You have malware of some sort -

Macbook has Grey screen wont start- said " MAC OSX does not have enough memory "
My daughter was using the macbook, and a message came up saying something like MAC OSX does not have enough memory for start up applications, ...
and it was frozen ( wish I had written down what it said") In held the start button down for 10 seconds, and now it wont work properly.
All I get on start up is a grey screen. I have tried holding down shift key and rebooting, but nothing.

I buy for mac app but not for the iPad, so how do I reinstall a program that has already purchased? I need help because I bought the imovie'11 but when he opened it only brought 8 movie trailer templates instead of the 15 it says on the program. How do I solve this problem? Once paid for a program incomplete. I also liked that the AppStore itself had a button to reinstall programs already bought, because it is very hard to understand how to do this in the store, only option is to install and hide purchase, and how do I reinstall, attention'm talking about reinstalling a computer mac, not an ipad or iphone.

I wanted to install windows for Mac and I had vista so I put I the disk and installed followed the steps it then it closed my computer wen I turned it on it went straight to windows and it asked me to install it and put in the windows box code I found out I didn't have it so I wanted to go back to Mac I shut it off and it just goes back to windows and asks me to put the box code how do I get rid of it and go back to Mac because no buttons work at the start and i can't take out the disk !! Help
The two other posts are correct... so I'll just clarify. What's happening right now is your system is trying to boot into Windows in order to finish the installation. What you want to do is make it boot into OS X. As mende1 indicated, with your system off, hold down the Option key and continue to hold it while you turn the system on. You will eventually be presented with an option to select which partition you would like to boot from. Choose OS X. After you get into OS X, again, as mende1 indicated, change the Startup Disk to OS X. What this will do is cause your system to automatically boot into OS X when you restart it instead of you having to use the Option key when booting each time.
Relaunching BootCamp Assistant will allow you to remove your Windows installation and partition.
