IPod on one compute, iPhone on two computers

I have had an iPod for some time and sync that on my home computer. I recently bought an iPhone and want to sync the contacts on my work computer and my music and video/ movies on my home computer. To date, I have not been able to get my purchased movies to sync with my iPhone, only converted movies and podcasts to this point.
Any suggestions? Do I need to change something on my iPod which has always synced on my home computer?

I know I'm not qualified to answer all of your questions. I recently changed the computer where I'd like to sync my iphone. iTunes knows that my iPhone was synced with a different computer before and it only gave me 2 options, to proceed on the new computer which will wipe out all the contents on the iPhone. or to cancel. I take it from that experience that syncing iPhone on 2 computers is not possible.
You cannot sync purchased movies on your iPhone? interesting... could it be that Apple ID doesn't match what you used for the iTunes purchase? I really can't see why that would be the case.

  • 4 iPods to one computer with communication - 3 computers with no Internet

I've seen some answers that dance around this - 4 Kids - I purchased 4 ipods (Nano) for Christmas. We have one family computer that is Internet connected. The other children have Dell / XP computers but no communications. What is the best way for me to set up their ipods where they can download music fro iTunes from the family computer, yet still listen and manage their own songs from their computers with no Internet access? I'd like them to be able to download songs - take them to their computer - and manage their iPods from there.

Since you want your children to be able to manage their music on their respective computers, I think it will be best to transfer the music from the family computer to the kids' computers. Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for an outline of your various options:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93366
Once the music has been transferred, they should have no problem maintaining their music libraries.
One important point to note is that in order for their computers to play music purchased from iTMS and transfer it to the nano's, each of computers will have to be authorized and that requires an internet connection.
It only takes a minute, though, and once the computer has been authorized, the connection is no longer needed.
    Any further questions, post back.

  • Two iPods on one computer *BUT* using two computer accounts

Just got another ipod for my son, so we made a new computer user in windows for my son to use (so now he has a windows account and I have a windows account), and added itunes to this new user's site. Now when I plug in my iPod mini on my computer account, I get the following message:
"Another user on this computer is using the iPod software, so iTunes is unable to communicate with this ipod. Please ask the user to log out."
So I've tried switching users and when I do, the iTunes has popped up and my mini icon is on my son's iTunes which has opened up. I've tried exiting his program and logging off his windows account but the same thing happens when I plug in my mini. Is there a way to stop this?
    gateway desktop   Windows XP

OK ,try this when you are logged into your XP account
    1) Quit iTunes
    2) Eject the iPod using Windows Explorer.
    3) Go to Task manager > Processes tab.
    4) Click on the Image Name column to sort alphabetically.
    5) End iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe.
    6) Click Start > Run and copy this string into the blank box
    "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
keep the quotes, they are needed
    7) Start iTunes
    8) Plug in your iPod
    Good luck!

  • How can I use two Ipods on one computer.

I was wondering if it is possible to use 2 Ipods on one computer without having to reload all of the music to the new library.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually
If the iPods belong to different users then there are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:

  • Can you have two iPods for one computer?

I know nothing about iPods so please excuse me for this question that probably has an obvious answer. My sister has an iPod nano that she has been using with our computer for a long time. I just bought an iPod and was trying to set it up. So can I use her i tunes to put music on my ipod or how does it work? I am aware you are not supposed to steal music though. So what am I supposed to do?

Yes, you can use 2 iPod with 1 computer quite easily.

Ok I have a mac computer and an ipod nano and everything works great, but my mom is now getting an ipod nano. Is there a way to have two ipods on my computer, where each ipod has it's own library and account so we don't have to share all of our music?

  • Question on managing two iPods on one computer

Currently, I manage my iPod Nano on my laptop and manage my iPod Video on my desktop computer.
Im now thinking of managing both iPods on one computer. My plan would be to use the same iTunes library for both iPods and whenever the nano is connected, I would have iTunes set to sync only selected playlists and when the iPod Video is connected, have iTunes sync all songs and playlists.
My queston is; if I set it like this the first time each iPod is connected, does iTunes remember this setup the next time each iPod gets connected (i.e., the next time the nano gets connected, iTunes will automacically sync selected playlists and the next time the iPod video gets connected, iTunes will automatically sync all songs and playlists)?

When you use multiple iPods with one iTunes library each can have it's own setting and iTunes will recognise each iPod when it's connected and use the setting you have chosen. If any of your iPods are currently set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you have the iPod connected to the computer you intend to use you can set the update option accordingly. However just remember that if you did ever want to use the iPods on both computers again you would need to set them to manual update: Using iPod with Multiple computers

  • Two ipods on one computer

My daughter has an ipod and I'm getting a second ipod. I have separate user accounts and want to have separate itunes but access the same library. I've read the "How to use multiple ipods with one computer" and "Itunes How to share music between different accounts on the same computer".
I copy the "iTunes Music Folder" only from the original user account that has all the music on it to the "\Documents and Settings\AllUsers.WINDOWS\Documents\My Music".
I then Open iTunes, Edit, Preferences, Click Advanced and Navigate each iTunes account to the location of the iTunes Music folder.
But the new account still doesn't show the music of the old account. I copied an album into my new account and thats all I ever see in there. I'm good at following directions so I don't believe I missed anything. I was a little confused at first about the "Important: Do not move the iTunes folder, the iTunes 4 Music Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file." (part of step 3) but moved only the "iTunes Music" folder.
    Sorry this is so long,
    Would appriciate any help
    Mainer

Ok, so the iTunes music folder holds all the music. I copy or drag my iTunes folder and my Daughters iTunes folder from our separate user accounts to the shared music folder. Then open iTunes and steer my and my Daughters iTunes Music folder location to the same place.
If she downloads new music I would have to open iTunes under my user account. Go file/add folder to library/ locate the new music on the shared music folder and that would bring something into my library file so I could see the new music on my iTunes.
I guess what I started out to do was save memory space on my computer. Does all this do that?
If it doesn’t I really don’t care anymore as long as I can copy her new music to my iTunes and vise versa.
    Thanks for the help

  • Two 80GTB ipod's one computer

Please help! My husband and I both got ipod's for our birthdays. I can't figure out how to download music to mine without getting all his stuff and visa versa. Please help.

    Here's my take.
See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.
