Ipod only works in fm transmitter

my ipod only works when plugged into the fm transmitter. Once i remove it, it turns off and i can't get it to turn back on. It also isn't being recognized when i plug into computer everything from my itunes is still there but the ipod won't even turn on. When plugged into the transmitter the apple first comes on then the menu. When i turn it off everything on the screen slowly fades away. HELP!! thanks

This exact thing happened to my first gen touch. Sadly, I don't have good news for you. First side of the earphone jack stopped working. A few weeks later the headphone jack wouldn't work at all. (Using the docking slot along the bottom still worked fine the whole time, just as you said.) Unfortunately it's not possible to replace the headphone jack without replacing other major components inside the touch so it's very expensive to repair. I could not fix the problem and had to buy a new touch.

  • My iPod only works when plugged into a wall socket!

Anyone know why my iPOD only works when plugged into a wall outlet? I tried it on the Bose docking station and also my MacBook and it won't work!
    Any ideas??

Sounds like a dead battery.  You can have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party service center to have them do the same for job a little less.

Then it sounds like a battery problem.
    Try these.

    iPod battery doesn't charge.
If none of the above help, then it may be an issue that requires service.

  • IPod only works in iHome docking station - nothing else (USB, power outlet, other docking stations)

This just started last week after I'd loaded some songs to my iPod from my laptop and it wouldn't play or display anything.
My iPod Classic only works when connected to iHome docking station and then it seems to work fine. It won't work when connected to another docking station, to laptop through USB or to power outlet. I restored while it was on iHome docking station but that didn't seem to correct anything. When I've tried to restore off the iHome, the screen flickers endlessly and nothing appears.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Long live the Classic! (Hopefully)

  • Ipod only works in one ear. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

My first generation ipod touch only works in one headphone. I've tried 10 different pairs of headphones but with all of them the sound only plays in the left ear. It works in both speakers when i plug it into the speaker that connects to its wider slot (the opening on the ipod next to where the headphones are plugged in) but when i use a cord that connects to the headphone slot that lets me play my ipod on my cars speakers it only works on the left side speaker.
I don't know what's wrong with it and i really need your help, so PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

Try the following to rule out a software problem:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

My iPod headphone jack only works on 1 side of the headphones but not both sides of the headphones. I try every headphones my friends have and my iPod is causing this problem. How can I fix the headphone jack inside my iPod??

Have it replaced.  Either send it into Apple for replacement for a flat fee or send it to a third party repair comany to actually replace the part of for you at a cheaper cost.

  • IPod only works while plugged into computer!

Help! My 2Gb iPod nano went through the washing machine, and after a few days of drying out, it only works while plugged into the computer. As soon as I take it out, the screen goes blank. I can access all my music, podcasts and photos while it's plugged in. I have tried the 5 Rs to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

I also sent my nano through the wash and I found that if you get an ac adapter and plug it in for a few hours you will have battery life. This made me very happy however I have noticed that I can not turn the ipod off unless the hold button is on. Battery life is also not as long but long enough for me. Hope this helps

  • My iPod only works when its plugged in, as soon as I take it off charge it turns off. Is this unfixable?

Ive looked up ways to reset th ipod and nothing has worked, for it only turns on when plugged in and wont turn on when it isnt.

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced. Apple can do it or other authorized service centers as well.

  • IPod only works on the Power Adapter

The only time that my iPod works is when it is hooked into the Power Adapter. Once removed it shuts down. When placed on the USB cord connected to the computer the low battery sign is displayed on my iPod screen.
Looked through the troubleshooting guide but couldn't find anything for this specific problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod only works when connected to computer?

When I plug in the iPod Nano to charge, then "eject the disk", I am able to use the Nano. The screen works and shows that it is fully charged. When I removed the USB cord from the Nano, the screen gets dim then after 2 or 3 seconds, fades to black and does not work. How do I fix this? I tried holding the 'select' key with the Menu key to do a restart and nothing happened at all. I have looked on these forums and read variations of this question, but no one has ever answered it!
If the battery is dead and needs to be replaced, I will be VERY upset because this iPod has only been used twice ever.
ALSO if the battery is dead, can I take it back to the store and will they replace it for FREE? I got this as a gift (in the package and everything) so I know that it has not been used before but obviously I do not have a receipt or anything like that. And I do not even know where an Apple store is in my area since they only seem to be in wealthy places.

If this is a 2nd Generation Nano, and it has only been charged twice, I can guarantee that the battery is bad. Lithium ion batteries need "exercise" and should have at least 1 charge cycle monthly. You can be upset all you want but the lack of use is what did in the battery.
You can send it to Apple and pay them to put in a new battery or try a 3rd party site, such as http://www.ipodjuice.com

  • My ipod only works on my docking station. Any help would be great!

I have a 4GB ipod I got in Dec. and I got a docking station in May and I use them all the time. Well I left my ipod plugged into the docking station for a couple days, and it works fine on it, but when I tried to connect my ipod to my computer,it just blinked with an apple and a line over and over again. I tried turning it on to listen with my headphones and I got absolutely nothing, it did not turn on at all. I have tried everything that apple.com provided and nothing has worked so far, so anybody that might know how to fix this, please help!
    Thanx

    Hi Blane756,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps for a different issue, a gray screen at startup, that I think would still be worth trying for your freezing issues:

  • Ipod only working in usb 1.1.  USB 2.0 not functioning properly in XP Pro

Title really says it all, the ipod will dock, but I get a windows message "the device can work faster if you plug it into a high speed usb port" All my ports are usb 2.0. The motherboard is an Abit IC7-Max3. Xp Pro SP2 installed, I've uninstalled the usb controller and let it reinstall and it still gives me the same error, weird thing is I plug it into my friends computer and get teh same error, but his PSP will dock fine at 2.0 speeds. Could this be something as simple as the wrong cable? Any help is appreciated, took over 6 hours to transfer 18gb of music to my ipod and I'm constantly adding more. Syncing just takes soooo long.

i just went over to abit to do some research, and found your thread in the forums over there. so apparently you have tried plugging the ipod into the back ports rather than the front ports.
have you got any other USB 2.0 peripherals connected to that PC at the moment? sometimes power drain through one port will affect an ipod connection on a different USB 2.0 port (and vice versa).
so by way of experiment, do you get a 2.0 connection if you unplug other peripherals first?
    love, b

  • My ipod only works when its docked

I can't even reset it. It is only playing music when its on a docking system. It is also showing a full battery....

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
