Ipod operates;can't update or add songs

i have tried reinstalling itunes and the updater which wouldn't work
it usually freezes what is going on on the computer until i take out the ipod.
please HELP!

You can make a completely new library from these directions
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
You have to press AND HOLD the shift key.
As for why some songs won't re-add to itunes, maybe the MP3 headers are causing it. iTunes 7 and later has gotten really picky about them. Here's a good web link on that:

When I plug my ipod in I am able to add song to it but the tab that says "on this ipod" no longer shows up so I cannot remove things from my ipod or anything like that. How do I change this weird setting? On other computers this shows up fine so it is clearly a problem with itunes and not my ipod.

  • Songs on Ipod deleted/ Can't Update Software

This is the second time I've had this problem, and I haven't even had the IPod for a year. I have been very dissapointed. I've been seraching the forums and have not seen any topics directly relating to my troubles. So here's my problem....
Every now and then, my IPod will freeze while listening to a song. After a few seconds, it will skip to the next song and start playing it with no problem. Well, the other day, my Ipod froze again. Instead of skipping to the next song and playing it, it start skipping through my whole library. I tried turning off and on my IPod. It did nothing. Every time I press play, it just skips through all of the songs in my library or playlist. I connected it to my computer, and surprise, it wasn't recognized by ITunes. I unplugged it from my comp, and then I noticed that all of my songs/ playlists/ podcasts had been deleted. My IPod had self-reformated. This had happened before, and I just updated the software and reloaded all of my songs. From then, it worked fine. This time I tried running the update software and got a "service error." There seems to be nothing I can do restore my Ipod, update the software, and input my songs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same thing happen with my iPod a couple of years ago. I my case it was the remote that was causing the problem.

  • New iPod touch, no longer able to add songs via iTunes

Have a new iPod touch, less than a week old. 3.1.2 OS and 9.0.2 iTunes on an iMac.
Was loading songs manually, walked away for a little while, left the iPod connected, now I cannot add songs.
I've restored the iPod, still unable to drop songs onto it from iTunes. I set it to sync checked songs, will not load that way either.
It will load apps, I reloaded the apps, but songs will not go on it. Drive isn't full, after the restore I loaded apps, about 4 gigs worth, and tried songs but nada, zip, zilch.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Oddness...
Tried adding songs numerous ways, nothing. Walk away for a bit, come back, now I can add songs.
iPod gremlins? Taking it back tomorrow to see if they have any ideas...

  • Can you help me add songs from iTunes 11.0.1 to iPhone4S?

I have a new MacBook Air and am trying to add songs from it (iTunes 11.0.1) to iPhone4S.
However, drag & drop does nothing, which is what I had done on my PC to add songs previously.
Note: I specifically don't want to sync my songs/libraries.  I just want to add the new stuff I uploaed to MacBook Air iTunes to my iPhone4S.
Any thoughts/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

To be fair, not the news I was hoping to hear, but I'd prefer to hear the bad news sooner rather than after expending more time and energy on a fool's errand.
I uploaded the CDs on my MacBook Air as I'm moving everything there.
So, rather than put them on the old computer and then sync there, I'm guessing at some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and move all my songs from PC to my Mac.
I imagine I'll have to back up on new computer and erase in the process of putting the old songs and the new on there, getting them off my new computer.
One would hope there'd be an easier and less laborious method, especially since in my established pattern of procrastination I can see me putting this off for a while.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback.

  • Buying a new iPod,,how can I transfer all my songs over?

My 30gb iPod which I've had since May of 2006 sad to say may be on it's last legs. It did not make it through my morning workout today, crapped out at the 15 minute mark. I think it was fully charged, the battery indicator showed a full charge when I started my workout, but it died right around the 15 minute mark of my workout.
So if I buy a new iPod, how do I get all my songs on it. I have over 5000 songs on iTunes (they're all backed up on my external hard drive too) and I just need to know what I would have to do to use a new iPod and upload my entire iTunes library.

    Hello blackhawks2488,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If all your music is located in your iTunes library, all you have to do is simply plug the iPod in, register it, set it up sync however you wish, actually sync it and be on your way.
There is no limit to the number of devices you can have synced with one iTunes library or account.

  • Does anyone else think it is stupid that the 2nd gen of iPod touch can't update to even 4.3?  Cuz none of the apps work anymore and i don't have $300 to throw down for a new one.

Yeah, I have been getting tons of updates for my apps, but since my iPod touch can only go to software 4.2.1 all of my apps have slowed down and crash, freeze, and don't get all the new things available on the other software versions.  It is incredibly frustrating and kind of stupid to phase out the owners who have the older models that work just fine.

The 2G was introduced 4 1/2 years ago. That is old in electronics standards. It does not have the hardware to support a higher iOS.

  • IPod app: can't update podcast

    1. In the iPod app on my (original) iPad, I select a podcast (e.g. MacBreak Weekly) and see that "Salty Snacks" (episode 244) is the last one I have.
    2. I choose "Get More Episodes…".
    3. The iTunes app takes me to the MacBreak Weekly page in the iTunes Store, where I see that "It Just Looks Thicker" (episode 245) is the most recent one.
    4. I click on the FREE button and then the GET EPISODE button and episode 245 starts downloading. I watch it downloading completely in the Downloads section.
    5. I switch back to the iPod app and see Macbreak Weekly just as it was, i.e. the most recent episode is still 244 "Salty Snacks", and I can't find the episode I just downloaded.
Any ideas why this is happening? Some notes:
    1. I have a similar problem using the Music app on my iPod touch. The difference is that, on the iPod touch, the iTunes app won't let me try to redownload the episode; it appears to remember that I've already downloaded it, even though the episode doesn't show up in the Music app. On my iPad, I can go back to the iTunes Store in the iTunes app and redownload (even though the download never shows up in the iPod app).
2.The same problem occurs with any podcast I try to update; i.e. this isn't just a MacBreak Weekly problem.
    3. I'm using 4.3.3 now but this problem has persisted for quite some time on the iPad. On the iPod touch, updating sometimes worked during the 4.3.2 days.

The first line of this post should have read "I can't update or download any apps"

  • Why can i not just add songs to my iphone instead of syncing the whole library?, why can i not just add songs to my iphone instead of syncing the whole library?

Previously I had a blackberry, if I wanted to add a song, all i had to to was drop and drag it to the device.  Is there a way to just ADD a song and not have to sync the whole library?  My daughter and husband and I all share music, but I don't want ALL his music on my phone, just some of the songs, and my daughter likes some of mine and some of his... you get the idea.... how do I just ADD songs without syncing the whole catealoge of music?

Create a playlist of just the music you want, then follow the directions here http://discussions.apple.com/message/16929103#16929103

  • Can't update software, iTunes songs won't transfer

I have an older docked iPod (2nd gen, I think). It is running iPod software 2.2. I updated iTunes to the latest version and now my recently downloaded iTunes songs won't transfer to the iPod. I get an error message saying my iPod software is outdated. But I can't get the latest iPod update software to load. I've downloaded it twice now. When I go through the installation program, it shows me the possible destination volumes for the software -- either my iPod or my hard drive. The iPod has a red X next to it, with an error message saying the software can't be installed on a volume that doesn't have OS X 2.8 or higher on it (my Mac is running OS X 10.3.9). If I try to install the iPod software on the hard drive, everything is grayed out and says disabled. I don't know what to do next. How do I update the software so I can transfer my new playlists? Should I downgrade iTunes back to its previous version (if this is even possible?)? Help! Thanks!!

  • HELP! my 2gb ipod nano can olny hold around 90 songs. what can i do?!?!

i got an 2gb ipod nano not long ao and was told it could hold more than 100 songs. i put all my music onto it and it barely holds 90. ive been told that i can remove the games and things that are taking up all the space. does anyone know how to do that?
    plz answer

Well the 2GB nano is ESTIMATED to hold 500 songs based on
"Song capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding WITHOUT artwork"
Songs encoded in another format, are longer that 4 min, are at a higher bitrate, have artwork ect ect will cut into how much songs the nano can hold.
One thing I recommend checking is to see if your songs are in the uncompressed WAV format. to do this in iTunes goto edit>view options and check "Kind". now you will see this heading in the list and it will tell you if the songs are WAV AAC or Mpeg (In other words MP3)

  • Can't Delete Or Add Songs In iTunes

I have around 200 songs that iTunes can no longer locate. I was moving things around so I would expect that. What I didn't expect is that, apparently, the only way to join the existing library entry to the new location is by clicking on each song individually, browsing to the new location, and selecting it. With over 200 songs to be reassigned, that is an impossible task. So I tried to delete all the tunes from the library and add them back again pointing to the new locations. iTunes wouldn't do it. It asked me if I really wanted to delete the files. I clicked 'yes'. Then it left the files in the library! So I tried to add the tunes anyway pointing to the correct location. I tried both the 'Add New Folder To Library' option and then by clicking and dragging. iTunes wouldn't do it. No error message pops up or anything. The tunes are simply not there. So, I can't get rid of them and I can't add them back again. What do I do?
