IPod options don't save, updater fails to recognise but itunes is fine?!

Ok, so after browsing the forums for a while, I seem to have an unusual and inverse problem to most of you;
iTunes functions fine as far as music goes, but any attempt to enable the 'enable disk use' tickbox, or any of the others in the iPod options for that matter, appears to work... But no new drive enumerates in My Computer (no, I've got no network drives contending for the drive letter as is a windows issue), and after disconnecting (manually making the device safe to remove first) and reconnecting the device, all settings I altered are returned to as they were. I've had this iPod for less than a day, and would rather like to carry photos and work files on it too!
I've tried all five of the suggested five R's, though I can't perform the last of them as the updater/restorer tool (yes, the 2006-03-23 - it's what came with my ipod) says it can't mount the ipod - I guess this is because the ipod isn't to be found in my computer.
Just one final quirk, when I first plug the ipod in, the screen does say; "do not disconnect", and the drive is found in my computer... That lasts about five seconds before disappearing. I might try uninstalling itunes now and see if that sticks around any longer, maybe I can do a restore if it does... Will report back soon.
Any help muchly appreciated - these forums aren't really full of encouragement for new iPod owners :S
Cheers.

Ok, so that idea popped into my head as I was writing it and I shoulda just shuddup and done it anyway, because that's worked. Yep, uninstalled itunes, ipod acted only as a drive and voila, the updater/restorer recognised it, restored it, and now it's all good.
Some faith restored
Cheers!

    You might have better luck posting in the iPod Nano forum.  You posted in the iPod Touch forum. For an iPod Touch one would start here:

  • Auto. updates fail to install. but Firefox tells me I have the latest version.

    Firefox attempts automatic updates which always fail. Then it downloads a complete version which also does not install. When directed to Firefox I'm told I amusing the latest version. Why do the updates fail, and why is it trying to update when I have the latest version???

    There was a .1 update, to 25.0.1. You can check whether you have that update using
    Help > About Firefox
    I don't think websites can detect your version number to that level, so the Mozilla website might only be able to determine that you have 25.0.

  • My "iPod Classic (60GB) Click Wheel" is not being recognised in iTunes although the iPod shows up in 'my computer'.

    My iPod Classic (60GB) Clickwheel is not being recognised in iTunes although the iPod shows in 'My Computer'.  The problem started with an error message in iTunes saying "Could not complete sync as devise may have become corrupt" and suggested I restore the iPod to factory settings which I have done several times.  I've carried out an error check in the iPod properties.  I've completely removed iTunes and all related software components in the correct order and reinstalled version 10.5.3. I have been through the 5 R's numerous times but still the iPod is not being recognised in iTunes. I have Windows XP, I'm tearing my hair out now so any help or suggestions would be great

    Try and force iPod into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPod
    Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • Tried to update to 4.0, but iTunes won't let me.

    Every time I attempt to upgrade my iPhone 3G to version 4.0, I get the following message after clicking the "Update" button:
    "This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version."
    I can't get past this message, even after restarting several times.

    It recognizes that newer software is available.
    But the first reply by -JondorZ- is correct. I had to manually download iTunes 9.2 from the Apple web site and install it first. Now it is allowing me to update.
    Thanks, -JondorZ-!

  • Blackberry ID under Options and BB Identity update fails

    Hey BB People
    I've this BB Curve 8520 for almost 2 years now.
    Under Options on the device, there an option Blackberry ID, when I want to go in there it shows "Accessing account information" for a while and then shows me "Unable to update your Blackberry ID account information". What is the reason for this?
    I also cannot get into my App World, it shows "A BlackBerry Identity update is needed. Would you like to install it now?" If you select "Yes" then it takes forever and nothing happens. It eventually pops up with "BlackBerry Identity installation failed. Please try again later. (80003)"

  • Bios Update Fail - Under Warranty but No Support

    Hi,
    New to the board and looking for some help. I have a w500 still in warranty. We have been having issues with running Vista and the machine not rebooting after hibernation. Today I found some time to run updates using the pre-loaded ThinkVantage software on the machine. There were quite a few on there including a Bios update... upon running the updates and the machine restarting at the end, I get a black screen....  and nothing... the power lights are on but not more.
    I have called Lenovo tech support and they advised me that because I did the Bios update (as part of the many updates that were suggested I required) I have voided my warranty support for this problem.... apparantly I was made aware of this as part of the disclaimer prior to running the updates!!!
    Does anyone have any suggestions on steps forward from this point?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    In there you have the old bios versions : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74858#version
    NO!!! Don't install that update (assuming the installer allows you to do that.)
    That link is to the BIOS update for the ThinkPad W510 No wonder your machine may fail to boot correctly after installing that.
    You want to create a bootable CD with the latest BIOS for the ThinkPad W500 which can be found at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70354 There are links to earlier versions of the BIOS for the W500 at the bottom of that page as well, if you want to go back to the original version delivered out-of-the-box, but there's no real reason to do that.
    Booting from a CD is probably the safest method of updating the BIOS, since it does only that update without interference from any other updates or software (Lenovo's system Update should really only allow BIOS updates to be installed separately from other updates). However, I don't know what happens when the updater finds that the existing BIOS on the machine is for another machine type (W510), assuming you've already tried installing the wrong update referenced in the posting above.

  • I have done the software updates on my laptop but still can't get the app store

    Hello,
    I am trying to download the app store for my laptop, however, I have done all the system updates (numerous times over the past few months) and the app store has never appeared.  I can't seem to find a link to download it from the website and am not sure how I am able to get it on my computer without reinstalling my whole operating system or something (which I really don't want to do if I can avoid it).
    Any information on this issue would be greatly apprieciated,
    Lauren

    You need to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.6 and then update to at least 10.6.6 to get it.

  • DataAdapter Updates Fail... but returns a RowsAffected count of 1

    I have an Update form for a small Table. The update Keys
    consists of the primary key (intAutoCountyNr) and a DateTimeStamp.
    I'm using a Stored Procedure to perform the Updates (Oracle & SQL Server
    see below)
    To test Conncurrency updating, I load the record in a Form, then
    using TOAD/SQLServer Studio or similar editor I physically change the
    DateTimeStamp in the database to something other than the original
    After I physically change DateTimeStamp, I populate the SP Parms,
    then issue the following Update command:
    Dim intRowsAffected As Integer = mobjAdapter.Update(mobjDataTable)
    Both the SQLServer and Oracle procedures were always returning a 1 for
    intRowsAffected, even though the updates were failing.... I did some research
    and found the fix for SQLServer... SET NOCOUNT OFF
    Is there a comparable setting or work around in Oracle PL/SQL?
    SQL Server Procedure
    ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_tblCountyAutoNr_Update]
    @intAutoCountyNr Int,
    @strCountyName NVarChar(51),
    @intRegion Int,
    @strUpdatedBy NVarChar(20),
    @dtmDateTimeStamp SmallDateTime,
    @intAutoCountyNr_Orig Int,
    @dtmDateTimeStamp_Orig SmallDateTime
    AS
    SET NOCOUNT OFF -- Fixes Problem in SQLServer
    BEGIN
    UPDATE tblCountyAutoNr
    SET
    strCountyName=@strCountyName,
    intRegion=@intRegion,
    strUpdatedBy=@strUpdatedBy,
    dtmDateTimeStamp=@dtmDateTimeStamp
    WHERE (intAutoCountyNr = @intAutoCountyNr_Orig)
    AND (dtmDateTimeStamp = @dtmDateTimeStamp_Orig)
    END
    Oracle Procedure
    PROCEDURE PROC_TBLCOUNTYAUTONR_UPDATE
    p_intautocountynr tblcountyautonr.intautocountynr%TYPE,
    p_strcountyname tblcountyautonr.strcountyname%TYPE,
    p_intregion tblcountyautonr.intregion%TYPE,
    p_strupdatedby tblcountyautonr.strupdatedby%TYPE,
    p_dtmdatetimestamp tblcountyautonr.dtmdatetimestamp%TYPE,
    p_intautocountynr_Orig tblcountyautonr.intautocountynr%TYPE,
    p_dtmdatetimestamp_Orig tblcountyautonr.dtmdatetimestamp%TYPE
    IS
    BEGIN
    UPDATE TBLCOUNTYAUTONR
    SET
    STRCOUNTYNAME=p_strcountyname,
    INTREGION=p_intregion,
    STRUPDATEDBY=p_strupdatedby,
    DTMDATETIMESTAMP=p_dtmdatetimestamp
    WHERE (intautocountynr = p_intautocountynr_orig)
    AND (dtmdatetimestamp = p_dtmdatetimestamp_orig) ;
    END PROC_TBLCOUNTYAUTONR_UPDATE;

    The expected return when using a stored procedure is -1, but there was a bug in earlier ODP versions where it returned 1 instead. What version of ODP are you using? You may find the information in [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1013116&tstart=0] useful.
    Hope it helps,

  • X220 Bios Update Fail - Under Warranty but No Support

    Hi,
    I updated the BIOS on my x220 to version 1.17 and now the laptop wont boot. Just continuously reboots even few seconds, it doesn't even get to the Thinkpad logo.
    I downloaded the BIOS update utility directly from the lenovo website, did a restart logged in as administrator and ran the update. When it was finished I restarted the laptop and then it wouldn't boot.
    Lenovo support say that this is not covered under warranty. Is this correct?
    Thanks
    Fitzer

    Fitzer,
    Sorry to hear about your trouble... let's see if we can clear this...
    First, try removing battery and AC adapter and then press and hold the power button several times for several seconds each time.  Re-attach battery and AC and then try to restart the system.   This may clear the condition.
    If not, please try to re-contact support.  If you need additional help, please reply to my private message with the information I requested. (see private message from me - little envelope in the top right corner of the forum)
    Best regards,
