IPOD or PC Memory?

I have an IPOD Classic 160 gb and onlt recently when I've tried to sync with iTunes (10.6.3) I've received the error - "iPod cannot be synced. There is not enough memory available."
Does this mean IPOD memory or PC memory. I am running Vista on my PC.
I have tried restoring my IPOD, reverting to older versions of iTunes etc, etc
I have followed the -
iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant
Has anybody any clues as there seem to be quite a few people suffering with this problem and very little in the support to help reolve it?

Is your Windows PC update to date with all the latest patches and hotfixes?  Did you try a complete restore of your device in iTunes?  Do that again and then try syncing everything in smaller batches if possible to see if that makes a difference.
One other thing I have found is the iPod's drive letter may be causing this issue.
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
Maybe try a complete reload of the OS. not an ideal solution, but other than that, I don't really have any other ideas. I have never seen this error before.

    Hi, Dwayne
This is the 'iTunes U Course Manager' community, which is is a very specific area and not for general iTunes questions.
You need to ask your question or start your discussion in the 'iTunes' community where you should get a better response.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is my iPod Touch's memory 0 when i only have 249 mb of photos and camera and 23l mb of Music? Please help this is a big issue! what do i do? ps i dont want to loose 2 of my apps!!

I have a 8GB Ipod Touch and i know its not a lot, but in the beginning it was working fine. For some time now it wont let me excede even 1GB of memory. i have no games, no apps, not many contacts, hardly anything! only 249 mb of photos and camera and 23l mb of Music. i have backed it up and restarted it and everything and i am getting annoyed! please help me!! i cant live without my ipod!!! This is urgent!
P.S: i have 2 apps on my ipod that i would not like to loose! IF theres anyway to save them in the process of fixing my ipod that will be great!
    Thank you!

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Ipod has lost memory soem how.

I just got finnished restoring my 30GB ipod video and now it says in itunes AND on the ipod that it only have 15.97 GB of memory anyone know why it would be at 15 and not 30?

Try re-restoring it. I have heard sometimes it can take a couple tries. Also do a couple resets first, then restore it. After restoring, you should have a bit under 28GB available to you.

  • IPod nano 2g memory

how much memory does the Ipod nano 2g, comes with? i heard that the games, notes and all the extras, even the os use some space in the 2g flash memory

Its not really these factors that affect the disk size. To keep things simple, the hard/flash drive people and the computer people work out the sizes differently:
    Hard/Flash Drive People: 1GB =1000MB
    Computer People: 1GB =1024MB
So you can store 1.8GB worth of content on your iPod.

  • New iPod Touch 2g memory...

Hello... I have been waiting for the new ipod touch since the ipod touch 1g came out...
the reason I have not bought the 1g is because of its small capacity...
But again.. kind of disappointed with 8gig even though price has cut and
I was expecting to get 300 one but it's only 16 gig...
I am still getting one this weekend
but do you guys know why it's so hard to
fit bigger capacity onto the iPod Touch??? thanks

Hi chubbydw331: hmmm. Because the iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and iPod Shuffle are flash memory based, others are hard drive based. It makes them lighter, thinner, etc. But you can't get the same high capacity. Just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

  • Not all music appears in ipod even though memory used and in i-tunes

How come all my latest music doesn't appear in my ipod. My itunes memory for all music and my ipod memory for music is both about same amount (4.7 gb) and i have no other downloads. It doesnt matter if I resync. I don't wont to have to reset the ipod and resync from scratch again.

When you plug your ipod in a summary screen comes up in itunes for your ipod. Click on the music tab at the top of the summary screen, that is where itunes gets its information on what to sync or not to sync. What are the settings there set to?

  • My 1st generation ipod is missing memory

my 2gb ipod only shows it has 1.82gb of memory.

Which is exactly right. It has to do with how storage space is calculated and there is an insignificant amout of space taken up with folders/operating software.

  • 4th gen 8gb ipod touch tiny memory

I have a 4th gen 8gb ipod touch and I can only put around 28 albums on, my dad has a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch and can put 58+ albums on it, why is my memory so small in comparison?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
Also, the music can have different compression. You can go to the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes and check the box that says "Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kbps ACC. A good compression is 128

  • Ipod touch low memory

Hey every one. I have an 8gb ipod touch and its memory always gets stuuck when i have like 200 mbs left. Any clues on how I can change the settings so it will use up all 8gb instead of it being stuck at that point?

You can't use 100% of the memory. You need to leave room for swap files, caches, etc.

  • IOS 5 ipod 3 gen memory usage

I recently updated to ios 5 on my iPod 3 gen, the 'other' memory showing 12.5 gb used. How do I lessen the memory usage of that.

I managed to sort out my huge iPhone 4 "other" memory by using stage 1 of the Apple support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
Little bit quicker than having to do a restor thankfully but still annoying.

  • Diferents serials on ipod and less memory

i bought my ipod nano in ebay, and it seems to be a 4gb ipod but when i connect it and when i look the memory on the menu appears 2 gb (1,7 real) the problem is that the serial number on my screen and pc isnt the one who is at the back, i call the support and told me than the serial number on my screen was from an 2gb ipod and the back was from an 4gb ipod
    what can i do????
is any way to "unistall" the program of my ipod and convert it to 4gb??

The serial number on the screen is that from the iPod's logic board which keeps track of the iPod's capabilities; the one on the back appears to have been changed with one from a 4GB model. If the iPod actually has 4GB space, its firmware is limited to recognizing 2GB, and that isn't changeable by customers. You can't do anything.
