IPod Photo 30 Gig Over-heating

My dad was using this one for a while before he gave it to me, and he said he has never noticed an overheating problem. He hasn't updated the firmware for a while, so when I got it, I updated, and then let it sit and charge because the battery was very low. After a while, I went to go pick it up and it was getting a little hot, and I noticed the battery was almost fully charged, so I just let it go a little bit more. I looked back about 10 min. later (it should've been fully charged by then) and it wasn't charged all of the way. I picked it up and it was hot too. At the time, the ipod did not have anything on it. It was freshly formated after I updated the firmware. I was not transfering anything to it eather. It was just sitting there on the dock for a while. I want to know if this is normal after you format it or after you update the firmware? Like I said, my dad said he has never noticed any over-heating in the past. Oh yeah, and also when I click the "Sleep" button on the menue, it does not want to go to sleep. Even if I hold down the "Play/Pause" button, I have to try a few times before I can get it to sleep. I have also tryed re-booting the iPod and it still did the same thing. Please tell me if I should send this baby back to apple for a minor repair please. Thankyou for the help in advance.

I think I have the same model as you, and I have never encountered that sort of problem. I think your best bet is to get it repaired.

I have done absalutely nothing to my 4g apple ipod touch, and it over heats, won't hold a charge, and the front camera will not work. I bought this brand new in december, and i've barely used it. I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Cooked iPod Photo 40 gig

I plugged my iPod Photo into a wall socket, as I always do,and let it charge for about 2.5 hrs, when I came back to use the iPod, it was VERY HOT, I unplugged it and the screen looked discolored, nothing worked. I have filled out a service order with Apple, but has anyone had this happen, I bought it at Best Buy and called them, they said that they've had some people return with this problem, since my sale date was greater than 30 days they would not cover me, hope Apple does the right thing!!

From your description it is definitely a hardware problem. When this happened to us, I thought it was because of the rubber skin cover causing the iPod to overheat. Now we have two more iPods and I know that it should never get that hot to begin with...

  • Help Needed : iPOD Photo 30 Gig Problem with Starting

I have a 3 months old iPod Photo 30 GB.
Since past 3 days it is not starting up or showing any activity.Click wheel doesnt works,Screen is blank with no sign of any life
Have tried charging it thru charger but doesnt works.
Also it is not recognized when I connect it to my Comp/Laptop.
I have a docking station from Bose on which it works.
I can use the click wheel as well as can operate it thru remote of Docking station. On the dock it shows full battery.
    Can somebody help?

Something wrong with your AC Charger (or the cable connected with your iPod) it is not a problem with your iPod otherwise it would not work on Bose docking station. I suggest that you leave it with your Bose for 3 hours then do the following ..
    1. Do a reset, press "select"+"menu" keys
    2. Connect to your laptop
    Hope it got recongized

  • Any news of updating ipod photo to ipod video

guys.. is there any news about updating ipod photo to ipod video in the future??? i'm so darn pis$ed after looking at the ipod video... i have an ipod photo 30 gig and i just feel that it's really unfair for other ipod with colour display users!!!!!!!!!!
anyone here would be kind enough to calm me down!!

    Bryan,
posts like this are in my opinion quite inappropriate and immature. I can agree on the fact that at the time of purchase the iPod purchased was exactly to specifications, but if a day/week/month later you can get more (10 GB and video capability) for the same price would you not feel cheated in a certain way? Just imagine it happening with anything other than a technological advancement and imagine it happening to YOU.
Anyway, it would be a very nice gesture for us Apple iPod enthusiasts to be provided with a firmware upgrade if the technology of their iPods is capable of handling videos. I for example am a Windows deciple, but as with everything, having listened to the right reasons, was contemplating to convert to Apple. Let's see how they handle this issue going forward.

  • Frozen ipod photo.  Can't do anything.  Help!

My ipod photo 60 gig was working fine today, then suddenly froze up. The screen stays on with backlight on, showing the menu that was on when it froze. I can't do any of the 5 r's, can't toggle the hold switch can't move from menu to menu. When I connect it to either one of my computers, it doesn't show up in Itunes. Is it a goner? Any suggestions?

FYI. For some reason I decided to plug it in to my ac adapter, and that seemed to bring it back to life. Why, I don't know.
I'm still wondering if it's on its last legs, tghough.

  • Why do iPod photos take up more GB space than iPhoto photos?

I sync all of my iPhoto photos to my iPod; the entire library is 1.1GB. Even though I have not checked "include full resolution photos", my iPod photos take up over 1.8GB. How does this make sense? It seems to me that since I am not putting on full resolution (mine are 2-3MB each, 3072x2304 jpg), that the photos on the iPod should be 320x240 (screen resolution), and those should not take up much space at all. Here is a list of the files under Photos/Thumbs on my iPod.
    F1015_1.ithmb
F1019_1.ithmb (this file has not been modified since Jan 2007, and was created and last opened Oct 2006; it is 500.3MB, which is exactly the size of the 2 files below this one!)
    F1019_2.ithmb
    F1019_3.ithmb
    F1019_4.ithmb
    F1024_1.ithmb
    F1036_1.ithmb
All of the rest of the files were modified and opened today, since I synced today.
I already tried removing all of the iPod photos, then re-syncing them. Do I need to reformat my iPhoto library, or my iPod library, or something else? thanks

    I've had this problem too.
For instance, I copied one particular albums artwork on each of it's 14 mp3's. To do this, I highlighted all of the files in iTunes and right clicked and hit Get Info. Then, I clicked and drug the file (from My Computer) and dropped it into the "Artwork" window.
I started with 67mb of space. After I added the images to the songs, I had 37mb of space left. *The image file was only 14kb!*
Why does it take up so much space? Has anybody posted a solution to this problem?

my iPod touch 5th generation had white screened an it won't let me rest it by holding down the home button an the power button for ten seconds I've pulled it in to iTunes an its not being detected what can i do as its starting to over heat?

If you can't get it to shut down or restart when holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and you can't get it recognized in iTunes to restore it, the iPod may have suffered a hardware failure and will need to go to Apple for service. Someone else here may have additional suggestions, though.
There is no "fifth generation" iPod touch, by the way, just for the sake of clarity; not yet, anyway.
    Regards.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 40 Gig iPod Photo will only play for five seconds

My 40 Gig iPod Photo will only play the first five seconds of the songs I have on it. I have not changed anyting and it worked just fine last week. Any ideas? I have done a hardware re-set. I have no clue what is going on.
    Any help would be great!

    Hey!
    Have you tried a reset?
Hold down the home button and off button together for about 6-8 seconds(until the apple shows ignoring the slide to turn off at this point).Soon as the Apple appears let go and allow it to reset back to the Home screen(can take a couple of minutes).
Try it again. This isn't a Restore,so you wont lose any of your media.
    Cheers,
    John

  • 60 gig iPod Photo won't sync

I have a 60 gig iPod Photo that has stopped being recognized by the computer. I tried a new USB cable. Sometimes it will charge when connected to the computer, sometimes not. It will charge when plugged in to 12V source. I have tried it on more than one Mac, but no dice. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. And yes, we have tried the reset several times!

Since you tried it on multiple Macs with a different cable, you've mostly eliminated the +bad docking cable+, +bad USB port+, and +something wrong with the Mac's system+ possibilities.
Question: When you have it connected to the power adapter, does it operate properly as an iPod? So does it display its screen menu and play songs?
If it does, then the hard drive is probably OK and not the problem. The problem may be that the dock connector on the iPod side has become worn or otherwise damaged. There are many pins on the connector, so it is possible for it to charge yet not connect for data.
If it does not work as an iPod (play music), for iPods with a hard drive, the hard drive is the most common failure point. So it is possible that the hard drive in your iPod has become faulty. Other possibilities are problem on the logic board and problem in the connection between the logic board and hard drive.
If the iPod does not get recognized by Disk Utility, the only other idea I can think of is to open it up. You can try disconnecting the battery and see if it connects to the Mac with no battery. You can try disconnecting the hard drive, inspecting the two connection points between the hard drive and logic board, and reconnecting.
    Here is a helpful guide.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-4th-Generation/93
When opening the 4G iPod, it is easiest to start from the seam at the top end, because there are no clips there. Be careful at the top left corner (looking at the iPod from the front) because there is a delicate ribbon cable there connecting the two halves of the case. You do not want to yank it open at that corner. If possible, leave that connection alone; it can easily get damaged when trying to disconnecting the ribbon cable. You should be able to lay the iPod open, like a book, from the right side.
Be sure to use plastic tools to open the iPod. Metal tools will damage the case.

  • Is normal over heating in ipod touch 4th generation?

My ipod touch 4 th generations over heats while i'm using facetime

Yes, it is normal. Around 5-10 min of gaming will cause it to heat up pretty quickly, but it is completely safe and in no harm as long as the "Overheating" message doesn't pop up. You can surf on wi-fi and play music and videos without it getting hot for a while. It takes about 2 min to cool down so if it's getting too hot to touch then let it cool off.

  • IPod Photo Being USELESS

    Ok, here is my story...
I bought a 60 Gig iPod Photo in June of 2005, thus the two year warrentee has now expired. I now have about my 7th or 8th iPod, because I have sent mine away soo many time for service. What is up with that? And now, out of nowhere, my iPod has done it again, the sad iPod icon strikes AGAIN... and there is nothing I can do now, because I am not covered. Thankfully I just ordered a new MacBook Pro for school and I decided to get the 80 Gig Video iPod with it, because I KNEW this would happen to my Photo one again. I am so frustrated with the iPod right now that it is SICK... like... does anyone know what is wrong! I always take care of my iPod... disconnect properly, etc. Is it because I have nearly 60 gigs of stuff on it...?? Can the HD not handle it all?! Would that make a difference?! I don't know... I am just wondering if ANYONE else has had this problem... I mean, sending my iPod away to get a new one has become nearly a monthly thing... not sure why... it is so odd... these things just freeze up and there is nothing you can do... once you get that sad iPod symbol it's jsut time to say some curse words and head to Apple Support... only now I have NOTHING to turn to... because my Apple Care is expired... does anyone know even how much it costs to replace it if you're not covered...?? Probably a lot... and probably not worth my money if I have a video one on the way.... Any input from anyone...??

There are many reasons your iPods are sad:
    You may have:
    -corrupt files on it
-a bug/virus on it (even though, it is not likely if you use a Mac)
-installed 3rd party software unapproved by Apple (e.g. iPod Linux)
-placed your iPod in an unsafe environment (e.g. hot temperature, like a parked car...well your in Canada so I don't know about that)
I had an iPod photo 40GB, and it erased itself after about half a year of using it as a backup hardrive (I used like 37GB of it). So, it is possible that too much space is taken. If you are constantly accessing large files (like I was - files over 1-2GB like movies) it may just say to itself "I've had enough!" like mine did.
