IPod Photo 60G

If i were to sell a iPod Photo (4th generation) with 60G about 2 yrs and 3 months old, for how much should i sell it? what is it's current worth?

Search a site like eBay for completed auctions of similar products to get an estimate of that iPod's current market value.

  • IPod Photo 60G and Windows problems

I am unable to connect my Photo 60G iPod to my current computer.
I can connect it successfully to my laptop, so I know that the fault is not with the iPod or the iPod cord. I can connect my daughter's rather elderly 10G iPod to this current machine successfully, so I know it isn't this computer or the iTunes software.
What I can not do is connect the 60G iPod. When I do, the iPod gets the 'Do Not Disconnect' icon going but then computer usually freezes before opening iTunes and I can only sort it out by shutting off the machine. If I open iTunes first and then connect it, the iPod does not show up and sometimes the 'Do Not Connect' icon comes on and sometimes it doesn't.
If I leave iTunes closed, attach the iPod and then try to access it via the iPod updater in the Programs menu, it either freezes the machine as above or it gives an error message saying I need to restore my iPod (which I clearly don't, as not only is it working perfectly, it also connects fine to the laptop.) In all these instances, if I try to eject it from the USB port by clicking on the icon in the tray to bring up the 'eject safely' box, it will bring up the initial box and then freeze before bringing up the second confirmation box. In all these freezes, it ties up the machine so badly I have to turn it off at source. It will not even allow me to close down using Task Manager.
The iPod does generally show up in Windows, if I get that far and it doesn't freeze the machine before. Often it will then freeze the machine if I try to look at it in Device Manager or Windows Explorer.
I have done the following things to resolve the problem:
    1) Completely removed iTunes and the iPod Updater (numerous times), cleared out all their crap from the seven zillion places it goes on the machine, and re-installed cleanly using only the most up-to-date downloaded versions of both (plus, of course, have also tried the old versions, just in case.) In all instances, my daughter's small iPod works and mine doesn't.
    2) Tried the iPod on every single one of the USB ports on the machine, just in case one wasn't working. (They all are.)
    3) Followed the instructions on these two pages on this site to resolve the problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
    4) I searched Google Groups, where I found a reference to one problem I was having with the iPod updater which said it could be traced to an issue stemming ultimately from Apple's lack of understanding of the Windows platform and that the software couldn't cope with multiple drives or things not being on the C: drive. I do have my hard disk partitioned and formatted as drives C and D with everything defaulting to D. I would have expected Apple to have fixed this problem by now, as the was in March, so I made sure I have only the latest software, but this hasn't made any difference. I also tried specifically installing it to the C section of my drive but this didn't make any difference either. I suspect this may be a red herring, as if it were a genuine issue, I wouldn't expect my daughter's iPod to work either.
I don't want to be confined to only downloading music to my laptop, which is very old and slow and has a small hard disk. The problem seems to be very specific to the iPod 60G and I'm trying to figure out how it is different from the smaller iPod my daughter has and how to resolve it.
    Any suggestions?

The battery will not charge eithger. I have left it in a computer and ab outlet charger both for 1 hour, but no juice is going to the iPod. Is the cord dead? Or is the battery messed up? What is going on?

  • No exchange offer for Ipod Photo 60g?

Great...I just upgraded my 40g ipod to a 60g color photo ipod 4 months ago. Now the video ipod is out. Does Apple offer any sort of hardward exchange?

Haven't you opened your eyes and read the forum yet? The answer is "no". Now sell your brick of an iPod photo on eBay and deal with it!

  • Sycn error -50 with iTunes 5 and iPod Photo 60G

    Hello,
I updated to iTunes 5 (german) on a W2K SP4. The first sync with my iPod Photo was fine. Now I synced again and received error: It was not possible to syncronize your iPod. An unkown error occured (-50).
After that I updated my iPod to latest iPod Updater 2005-09-06, but still get the same error.
Anyhow it seems that the sync still work. At least for renaming playlists.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
you might want to restore your iPod completely using the Updater 2006-09-06. Even though it's a hassle, but I had some cover art mess on the iPod, but not in iTunes. So I restored with Updater and after that the syncing worked fine and ever since.
    Hope that'll help!

  • M4p with iPod Photo

I bought Brazilian Girls' video album "LIVE IN NYC." that includes 5 m4v Quicktime movies and 5 m4p audio files. Both movies and audios can be played with iTunes 6 (iBook G4 1.42GHz, Mac OS 10.4.2), but when I transfered the audio files to my iPod Photo 60G they cannot be played with the iPod. The songs are displayed in the song lists of my iPod. But when I tried to play the songs, each song finished in zero second and moved to the next. I believe iPod Photo is compatible with m4p files... Does anyone have the same issue?

I didn't try "the" AV cable (if you mean one from Apple).
I used a standard S-Video cable. Since it says "S-Video out" on the connector, I assume that this should also work.
The line out connector doesn't work either. When I dock the iPod, the sound still comes from the internal speaker and there's no signal from the line out.
The dock doesn't have an IR receiver (I think that's one of the main features of the universal dock).
All in all, it's not that tragic for me since I just wanted a dock for my iPod that allowed me to synchronize and charge it.
I would have never used the video- or audio-output anyway, I guess.
I tested it only out of curiosity.
BTW, the seller's name is icebeezx (the item id is 290283883750).
I guess you're safe when you look for the IR receiver in the pictures to make sure you get a Universal Dock - assuming the picture shows the actual item you get.

  • My 60G iPod Photo reads 22.9G available when empty...

I was having a few problems with my 60G iPod Photo, mainly, it was freezing up while playing, and sometimes it would just act like it was playing songs when in actuality is was not. Most of the time when this happened I would reset my iPod and that would fix the problem temporarily. That is until it happened again. I began to get frustrated with this so I decided to restore my iPod. When I restored it, I noticed that after it cleaned it off, it was telling me I had only 22.9G available. How is this possible? When a 60G is empty it should have somewhere around 55G of available space. I restored it again thinking that it was a fluke, but it still reads the same thing. How do I get all of my memory back? ...PLEASE HELP!!....

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.

  • To load or not to load included software with the 60g iPod Photo?

I have a brand new "older" 60g iPod photo. It came with instructions to load software from included CD. Apparently, the software is more than just the iTunes software. Do I dare to load it? All my other iPods have been "plug and play" into my iTunes.

It came with instructions to load software from included CD.
    Don't use the CD.
Apparently, the software is more than just the iTunes software.
Aside from iTunes, only the iPod updater is included on the disk, and that was incorporated into iTunes 7. You don't need to and shouldn't use the CD.

  • IPod Photo not recognized on Windows XP

I bought my Ipod Photo more than a year ago--and I've had numerous problems with it. Before my one-year-limited-warranty expired, Apple replaced my first iPod Photo for a brand new one--the one I have now.
The iPod itself seems to be working fine. However, one day it froze so I had to reset it--losing all of my music. Then I plugged it into my computer, but to my surprise, not one of the songs on my iTunes was transferred to my iPod.
When plugged into the computer, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen appears, and iTunes does open. However, nothing more happens. It seems like iTunes may recognize the iPod for a bit, then that's it.
Please help with me with my problem!
acer Aspire 3000 notebook   Windows XP   brand new computer

I have had much the same problem. I originally ordered the 40G ipod, and was 'upgraded' to the 60G (this was when the 60G was first released). The thing has NEVER worked properly! When it does connect and upload music, it's OK....until I would try to connect it again to add new stuff. More often than not, it would need to be completely reset, losing everything in memory. Needless to say, I haven't used it much. Now I am planning a trip and wanted to bring along some tunes. I've charged and reset the ipod, I'm running the latest iTunes version, and still nothing. It's not recognized in either windows or iTunes. The best it can do is tell me it needs to be reformatted, but then it just sits there forever saying 'Do Not Disconnect'. I'd love to be able to just get to the point where I could restore or update the software, but that seems impossible.
At this point, I really would like to upgrade to a movie-capable ipod, but my experience so far leaves much to be desired. Any suggestions?

  • ITunes for Mac Error -50 when syncing iPod photo

OS X 10.5.4 iTunes 7.7 Getting error -50 when syncing photos to my 60G iPod Photo, music is synced but not alll checked photos. I have AppleTV and 2 iPhones that are synced with this computer and all 3 of those are synced properly. But this iPod is giving me fits. I have restored the iPod and re-synced to no avail. Are there any plists that are hidden that I can trash. I have read about keywords on photos causing it, but I have 19,0000 tagged photos and I can't look at each one for a corrupt keyword. I have turned on albums one at a time with no help. Seems like a sync is a sync iPhone, iPod, AppleTV. Why different results? I am trying to get the same photos as on iPhones (16G), and the Apple TV has all of my songs and Photos, so the keyword thing may be bogus info.

Hi! I am having the same problem...how did you fix it?
    Thanks!

once again, thanks again Wazman21!!!!! You saved my ipod from being thrown in the bin......

    Hello,
Glad it is working in your case, but I just would like to give an update.
I have a 60G iPod Photo also the 3rd Gen iPod, both of them suffered with the same problem i.e. Hard Drive problem, and I managed to solve them based of what I wrote on the threat. But sadly to tell everyone that now both of the iPods are dead after 12-16mths.
I strongly suggest you should do the following after the whacking
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • IPod Photo no longer recognized by iTunes 10

I do not know how long ago my iPod Photo stopped being recognized by iTunes. It is certainly an old iPod that I occasionally use to record voice for podcast.
Today, I noticed that this iPod Photo no longer shows up in iTunes 10. I connected it to two Mac's; one is a G5 tower running OS 10.5.8 and the other is a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.1.
My current objective is to get the voice file off of this iPod Photo. But, of course, it will be nice to have access to it in iTunes 10.
    Please advise.

    Hello Profinite,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure as to why this happening, other than the fact that is probably related to the new iTunes 10. Have you try any of the basics yet? Since the iPod does not appear on either system, the cause could be the cable you are using to connect it with. If at all possible, try using a different cable. I would also try different USB ports on each computer as well. What happens when you reset it with it still connected to either Mac?
Another possible solution to at least get it mounted as drive on one of your systems is to place the iPod into *Disk Mode* as described in this Apple support document.

  • Why does iTunes use an iPod Photo Cache at all?

    Hi,
When iTunes is used to synchronize photos to a device, it creates an "iPod Photo Cache" folder.  Why does this folder even exist?
For users that have multiple devices with multiple resolutions (e.g., iPad 3rd Generation, iPad Mini, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3G), the iPod Photo Cache is grow to approximately four times the original size of the photo.  If I have 15 GBs of photos and a 250 GB hard drive, then the combined usage of 75 GBs (15 GB photos + 60 GB cache) is extremely unreasonble.
Device resolutions change often enough (these days) such that having multiple devices is probably more common than having more than one of a single product.  iTunes should be designed to do the real-time conversion (which it already does), but not save it to the hard drive.
Also allowing the ability to change the location of the "iPod Photo Cache" folder would help many users, but not myself since I do not have an external drive.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thank you for your response. I should have clarified. When trying to delete from the library, it gives me the option to delete them from the computer or just from the library. I choose not to delete them from the computer, just the library. As a result, I would not expect the deletions to free up room on the hard drive, but I don't see how it actually increases the space used up on the hard drive. If I delete a song from the library, but not the computer, does iTunes save the song again someplace else (such that there are now two copies of the song somewhere on the system)? That seems to be the only explanation for why the free space on my hard drive would decrease after deleting a song from the library.

    3. Has Apple discontinued the making of iPod photos?
    4. If so, will they still replace my battery or will they just send me a completely new iPod?
