IPod photo and usb

We have an old,1.2.1, iPod Photo with firewiredock for connecting to the computer; a dock to camera usb +camera reader+ cable; and an optical cable to connect the iPod to our Hi Fi.
We recently acquired a radio/cd/tape player which has a usb port and will shortly take delivery of a new TV also with a usb port. The camera reader does not have the right size of usb connection to fit the radio and therefore probably the TV.
Is there a cable which will connect the iPod dock to the Radio/TV to 1)play music and/or 2) show photos?
Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Kenichi. Some more info from me :
This is what the TV Handbook says: +USB connection / PC network connection+
+Multimedia connection for instantly view or play+
+your photos or music.+ The TV is Philips 42 PFL9803H.
As I understand this you should be able to play an iPod photos and music through the TV but to go back to my original question, is there a USB cable that will do the job?
The MPMAN radio/cassete/CD player does much the same except obviously just for music. It says connect the MP3 to the USB port and play your music.
Both devices will also take a USB Stick but I do not know how you transfer music and/or photos over to a stick.
I simply want to benefit from all my work in creating libraries and sideshows in iPhoto and creating playlists of my own music in iTunes. Since everything is synced to iPod, the simplest thing seems to be to use the USB ports on the above devices. But what cable, if it exists?
I thought most new TVs and audio devices now come with USB ports to enable greater connectivity and presumably that includes Apple. Perhaps brand competition, copyright protection,or just obstructive individuals are standing in the way. Hopefully you can enlighten me further.
All the best, Tom.

  • Questions about iPod photo and Apple Protection Plan

I have an iPod photo and an APP that expires May 2007. My

    2. Does the APP cover battery replacement?
    3. Has Apple discontinued the making of iPod photos?
    4. If so, will they still replace my battery or will they just send me a completely new iPod?

  • Incompatiility between iPod Photo and iTunes 7.6.2.9 and vista.

I have connected 2 iPod photo with my new laptop and none of them are recognizeds by iTunes 7.6.2.9. Other iPods like my 5.5Gen 80GB and an old iPod mini 4GB and my sister's 80GB iPod classic are recognized without a hitch. I reinstalled the windows vista USB drivers for iPod and reinstalled iTunes. The 2 iPod Photo are working all right and sync OK in my desktop PC. Any advice would be very appreciated.

  • IPod photo and stereo reciever--need help

I have a 30-gig iPod Photo from about 2006. It works great but I'm wondering if anyone knows why it won't play the songs through my Pioneer Elite stereo receiver. I have a USB input and iPod option that plays my iPod Nano perfectly. But the receiver doesn't even detect the iPod Photo. I realize it's older, but why wouldn't it play songs on it when it does the Nano?? Thanks.

I have the same problem that you do. I have tried all, restart, reboot, restore to its original settings and nothing. I have tried using the battery to run it off and I have charged it again and nothing happened. The equipment reproduces music, but with a white screem is imposible to operate it. I guess I will try to use the warranty, but I live abroad the US. If you have any progress, please let me know. Good luck, regards, ajlorenzos

  • IPOD PHOTO AND TOSHIBA LAPTOP

Has anyone had problems using their ipod photo with a Toshiba laptop? I'm having some serious issues...so serious that an apple specialist suggested that I should get a different computer. Any chance someone else has had a problem and has found a solution??

when i got it about a year and a half ago i couldnt even use it on my laptop because toshiba and apple were completely incompatible. then, after a little less than a year they were able to update the software somehow so that apple products would work on SOME toshibas. So, i tried to use it on my computer and it works ok for about a week, then it died. i sent that one back and they sent me a refurbished one and that took about a month to die. i just called apple today and i was told to send that one out and that i will receive another refurbished one (i have the extra year of insurance). anyway, basically i always get the sad ipod icon or the folder with the exclamation point and at times when i plug it in the computer wont even recognize that someone has been plugged in. also, my computer will freeze, etc. any chance you know how to fix the problem?

  • Life of iPod photo and where to sell?

I want to sell my iPod photo while it's still alive. I have had it since December 2005, making it 1 year and 2 months old. I would like to know how long, typically, iPod photos last, and also where would be a good place to sell one?
Gateway;   Windows XP   iBook G4; Mac OS X Panther

Normally, iPod would last couple of years, my 3G iPod (purchased in 2003?) still running fine without any problem, however, it is probably the time to have battery replacement.
If you would like to sell your iPod, you can try eBay.

  • Lost iPOD photos and cannot import photos

    Hi
I am currently travelling and have been downloading my few daily photos to my iPOD.
Last night I tried to download my photos from my camera to my iPOD but I received an error message that there had been an error while trying to import photos. Also all my other photo rolls are no longer there.
Any idea how i can retrieve my other photos and then download future days photo's as I keep getting the error message?
    Thanks
    Chris

I too lost photos and cannot transfer them to my computer!
I have been using my ipod out in the "field" to store my digital photos. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday. Now my imac G5 is not mounting the ipod. The techie at apple helped me but there is NO WAY to retrieve the digital photos that I can see on my ipod. Since the ipod will not mount on the imacG5 or my other G5 dual; and it will not mount as a disc, my only alternative is to restore the ipod. I will lose 3 days photo work and 4GB of images that were uploaded to the ipod and then I re-used the Compact flash cards!! I am outraged that apple will continue to tell people that the ipod connector and ipod work together!

  • Itunes, ipod, photos and cotracts not working after safari crash

My Iphone is about 2 weeks old. It was working fine until 2 days ago. I was browsing when safari crashed. I restarted safari and continued surfing. Later I went into ipod to listed to some music. The songs were on the screen but the ipod game an "unable to play" message. I shut down the iphone and started it up again. This time when I try to go into ipod it just crashes back to the spring board. when I click on Itunes it does the same thing. I clicked on photos and there no photos. turned on the camera and took a couple of Pictures. I looked at the camera roll and they showed up as just outlines of blank icons. Cicking on the icons gives an all black screen. Going out of the camera then into photos shows no pictures.
I called Tech support and was told to do a restore. I then plugged the Iphone into the dock and was not recognized by itunes. Interestingly Iphoto does recognize it but not itunes.
I am baffled at this point.

By any chance did you buy any music from the iTunes wifi store before this happened? I am having problem that sounds similar; but in my case the iPod function shows "no content", and all photos are gone; but notes, calendar and contacts are intact. I also cannot get iTunes to recognize my iPhone to do a sync or restore.

  • I have an unknown error (-81) when connecting iPod Photo and Nano

This error keeps coming up when connecting iPods to iTunes and no photos can be downloaded.
I have downloaded the all the latest iTune and iPod updates

    Hello penel2907,
This could be due to a hardware issue. You may try using a different USB port on your computer.
    Check for hardware issues

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Ipod video and USB 1.0...

I purchased a 60Gb Ipod as a gift and I have come to find out that my daughter's IMac has USB 1.0. Can she use it? An Apple store person said she would have to buy a new computer. The tech specs on the Apple site say 2.0 Recommended but it does not say 1.0 is not supported. does anybody kmow any thing about this?

I'm sure it's slower than it would be on USB
    2
    Yes, 40 times slower.
    30GB=~5.5hours (USB 1.1) vs. ~12 minutes (USB 2.0).
Ah, but if you've never had USB 2, the slower speed of USB 1.1 isn't so obvious. My main point was that my iPod does charge via 1.1. But thanks for the specifics -- I'm thinking I'd better start saving my pennies for a newer machine. <G>

  • Second Gerneration iPod Nano and USB 1.1

    Hello,
I have read in other feeds that the second generation Nano is compatable with USB 1.1. Is this correct? If yes, will I need extra charger or something to charge the battery?
    Thanks, John Heyne

i can't see why it wouldn't work, although downloading to the ipod could be a bit slow
but apple does state that a computer with usb 2.0 is a requirement... http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
a decent 6-pin usb port will charge the ipod, but some computers only supply low current on their usb ports, this might mean waiting a long time to charge the ipod, really you can only try it and see how it goes
there are add-on usb 2.0 adaptors available for many computers, so that could be the answer if you find your computer's port is no good

  • IPod locked and USB not recognised?

Someone please help!! I've been stuck with this problem for the last three days. Basically, what has happened is:
I changed my passcode for my iPod 5 the other day, then had to turn my iPod off as I was in school, I get to my iPod
at lunch and completely forget the passcode I changed it to. So now I'm locked out. This has happened before so
I knew what to do but this time, whenever I plug the USB into my laptop a little message just pops up saying
''USB not recognised''. I've tried absolutely everything to get this USB to work, I've even used different USBs
but barely any of them work or nothing comes up at all, like the laptop doesnt even know it's plugged in.
Is there any way I can restart my iPod without connecting it to iTunes or..? Does anyone know how to sort out
the USB? Sorry if this was a stupid question, I'm not very good at this sort of stuff.
    Thanks anyway,
    Kate x

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Also, as necessary:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
    Also see:
iPod not recognised by windows iTunes
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates
    - Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
    Further:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

  • Ipod Video and USB 2.0 with not enough power

    Hi all,
Ok, post number 2 for me. I have noticed another thing in the Ipod Video 30 gig that really has me wondering what is going on. I tested this out in various systems, being the analytical sort, and it seems to be that case. As long as there is enough power in the USB port to accomodate the Ipod, things are fine. Life is good.
But if there is not, even if you are compatible, in Windows, then things will be bad. First of all, your Ipod will freeze. That is bad. The second thing is that your Ipod will not come up as an Ipod in Windows, but will be a generic USD device drive. pretty awful.
So you have to reset the Ipod, and make sure that your USB port has enough power dedicated to it for the Ipod to be plugged into it. How much power is this baby sucking up anyways? On my machine at work, if I plug it in, and it only has a keyboard and mouse on it, it will not work. What is that?
    Any help is much appreciated:>
    Thanks
    Grubster

You may have noticed that as a Windows user you get little to no response in this forum to questions. Wrong side of the tracks you know.
Anyway, I have found the same issues. I surmise that the real issue is that IPods are designed to be used with a MAC. There are of course literally tens of millions of Windows users out there so Apple was obliged for business reasons to accomodate them. The power issue is just one of the many problems Windows users have. Most non-hub and non-keyboard USBs will have enough power. Not all but most.
Keep in mind that I think MACs ROCK!! I would have had one if they were compatable with the machines already in my office. The IPod it great. The issues can be worked around.

  • This fixed Ipod freeze and USB not recog.

turn hold button off and on six times, then hold menu and center click button down for 15 or 20 seconds until screen goes black (this resets Ipod).
then when Ipod comes back on plug it back into usb and no more problems

nope did that it still doesnt work, this is really f*ing me off, i plugged it into my ibook and it recognised it but just told me that ipod was full of music and stuff already which it isnt.
Apple why have you given me htis pain in the arse to deal with, why cant it just work
