Ipod Photo/Photos disappear/are deleted on reboot

My photo library seems to disappear sometimes on reboot. Today, when I switched on my ipod after not using it for a couple of days, I got the apple logo etc, but when I was back into the menus, my photos were gone. This has happened occasionally over the past few weeks (I only got the ipod in August). Is this normal? I can't believe it is! I've used up my one support call already so I can't ask Apple. If I manually reboot the ipod, sometimes I lose the photos, sometimes I don't. Anyone out there have the same problem? Anyone know what to do about it??? Ta! Sue

Hi Dave
Thanks for your comments. I get the photos back the minute I connect to itunes and the ipod updates automatically. Is a reset the same as reboot? The ipod software is up to date and I'm using 4.7 itunes - someone told me the only difference between that and 4.9 is podcasting. And anyway, there seems to be no problem syncing between the two. It's just the ipod that seems to be doing something odd all on its own! I'm reluctant to do a restore, as I have notes on the ipod that I'd have to copy again, tho' all the music is on hard drive. Do you really think that would help - the ipod is only about a month old and I did a restore initially to format the ipod hard drive for windows xp. Incidentally, the same thing happened on my first one, which I took back to the shop after a couple of weeks, because the display was scratched up when I got it, so this is a new replacement. Any further feedback would be very welcome - but thanks for the first reply. Sue.

  • All photos disappeared after deleting iPhoto library

I followed the tutorial http://www.apple.com/aperture/iphoto-to-aperture/how.html to import iPhoto library into Aperture and everything worked perfectly fine just until I finished the last step and deleted the iPhoto library. Since then I do not see anything under "PROJECTS & ALBUMBS", i.e. there are not the iPhoto events anymore. When I click on Projects icon (in the LIBRARY tree) I can see all those events, however these projects are empty!
I browsed the Aperture library I was able to locate all the master pictures there were moved there in the “Consolidate Masters for Library” step. But that is all. I do not see all the albums I've created since the iPhoto library was imported either.
    What should I do?

So I figured it out myself. I just had to restart Aperture. After that everything seems to be all right again!

  • Need help on my 40 gigabyte ipod photo and possible deletion of songs

    Hi...
I may have to reinstall all of my windows xp system software due to a potential virus. I currently cannot get to my desktop and therefore online. So, here's the dilemma...if I have to redo my harddrive, I will lose itunes, and wipe out all of the songs I have on it, (about 9000 or so) and I do not have them backed up and currently can't access the program to back them up. So, if I lose the itunes memory from my desktop, but still have my whole library on my actual ipod, is there a way to reinstall my songs from my ipod to itunes, when I restore everything on my desktop? Thanks....help fast!!!

Salvation is at hand. : )
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • While backing up iPod Touch, all songs are deleted. How do I get them back?

*I am really confused. REALLY confused. I was downloading a new update for my iPod touch and I go to look at my songs and NONE of them are there. NONE. How do I get them back? I have iTunes downloaded on a couple of computers, so my songs are kind of scattered, but they load onto all computers when I charge. Someone please help me!*

Installing an OS (particularly major updates like iOS 4) sometimes means that your iPod is erased and its up to you to re-load it from whatever sources you used to load it in the first place. So, you cannot retrieve files that we removed from your iPod during the OS installation -- you'll need to go back to each of the computers you loaded music from.

  • Photo Stream Photos Disappearing

Photo Stream photos disappear when deleted from a camera roll. Is this a bug, a feature or something wrong with my system? This is happening across all my devices. Thanks for any input.

I am not an expert but this does not make much sense to me: You might want to clean up one of your device's camera roll without erasing the corresponding photos from your Photo Stream.
That is unfortunately, how it is on iOS 8. When you delete the photo from the Camera Roll on the device that took the photo, it will be removed from My Photo Stream as well.  I am seeing the same on my iPhone 5s.

  • My desktop photo disappears when I reboot iMac, replaced with Mac default image. please help?

My desktop photo disappears when I reboot iMac...replaced with default apple image. does anyone know a fix?

First, try to delete the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart your computer. Finally, change the wallpaper and see if it stays after restarting your computer
If that does not work try
open the Applications Support folder and then look for the Dock folder and open that. There are two files, one of which is "desktoppicture.db". Move this file to the trash and securely delete it. Restart the computer. A new "desltoppicture.db" will be created on startup.
Finally, reset your desktop picture again using System Preferences.

  • Why are photos being automatically deleted from my photo stream?

I have three iDevices that use the same Apple ID:  an iPad 2 running iOS 7, an iPad 4 running iOS 6, and an iPod Touch running iOS 6.
Up until a few weeks ago, they all lived happily together.  Whenever I saved a photo on any one of these devices, the photo would show up in the photo stream for all three devices.
However, recently the iPad 2 has been mysteriously showing less and less items in the photo stream.  More and more photos disappear from the photo stream every day (only on this iPad; the other iPad and the iPod have all the same photos in the stream.)  The iPad 2 now has only 100 photos while the iPad 4 and iPod have 800+ in the stream.
Why am I losing photos from the stream in the iPad 2, and why aren't the other devices behaving the same way?  I'm not deleting anything (at least, I'm not deleting the images that are mysteriously absent from the iPad 2), and there are no device storage space issues (plenty of space on each device).
The iPad 2 seems to keep only about a week or two's worth of photos in the stream.  Does this have something to do with the versions of iOS that the devices are running?  I don't understand why this behavior would have suddenly changed within the last couple weeks, though, since the iPad 2 has been running iOS7 for quite some time.  It just seems to be arbitrarily happening now.
How can I make my iPad stop removing photos from its version of the stream?  I'm an artist and use all my devices in back and forth fashion, so I need to them to all have the same photo stream content.

My Photo is not a permanent storage space.
The photos you upload to My Photo Stream are stored in iCloud for 30 days to give your devices plenty of time to connect and download them.

  • When I import photos taken from my Ipod Touch 4 to My Mac Desktop, I click delete photos on ipod, but they do not delete. Is the only way to delete them individually (I have 1,400 photos!) or is there a way to delete them all in one go?

I realise you can you can delete them on your ipod slowly as you have to click on each one, and you can restore your ipod, but surely there is a way to get around this?

Thanks If anyone can help me.

Download/install an app is a know possible solution.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.
Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.

  • IPhoto 08 problem:  photos in book are deleted when moved to photo toolbar

When I move a photo from one of the pages in the photo book back to the photo tool bar (or whatever it is called) at the top of the page the photo disappears rather than staying there. If I go to edit to undo the action it returns to the page vs returning to the tool bar. I've restarted iPhoto and rebuilt the iPhoto thumbnails without success. I also tried to delete the preference files (com.apple.iphoto.plist) without success as when I relaunched iPhoto it didn't dislpay my photo's. I was able to restore iPhoto by dragging the original plist back to the preference files.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to find the photos after an extensive search. I checked and they are being placed "manually" rather than by date so they should be staying where I placed them when removing them from the books page. One other odd thing is that if I try to select them for deletion from the strip above the book page they simply disappear rather than being outlined but they then magically reappear when I try to select another photo for deletion. unless someone has experienced the same issue it looks like I'll be taking advantage of my Applecare agreement.

  • Deleting iPod Photo Cache fixes iPhoto syncing error 208

Thanks to some buried posts, I learned that deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" in the iPhoto Library folder fixes the -208 error that occurs when syncing an iPod Video with images in iPhoto. Instead of manually deleting this folder, however, I used OnyX to clean all the caches.
I wish I tried this first before going through the iPod Restore process...

15 PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Soon to be a new MBP Core 2 Duo!

    Hi Paul,
I followed your advice and I simply deleted the contents of the iPod Photo Cache folder, after having backed up the entire iPhoto Library.
Before doing it tried to solve the problem by I restarting iTunes, iPhoto and PowerBook a few times, hoping that it would have trigger the clean-up of the cached photo files. It did not.
So far I have not noticed any problems with iPhoto or iPod after the "forced" deletion. However, I am a little surprised that the cached files are not cleaned up automatically when the user reduces his selection of photos to be synced to iPod. Maybe the logic is that it is good to have even unused cached copies of the photos is case they are needed later (creating them is quite slow). Also I would have wanted to keep them, but I run out of disk space

  • Ipod nano - photos disappear when I add new ones

When I transfer photos from my computer to my ipod nano that's fine - but the photos already in my ipod disappear!
    Anyone help?
    Roy43

Are you choosing the same folder each time to sync
    photos from?
If this isnt the case then thats why the photos
disappear, the ipod recognises that the "new" folder
chosen doesnt have the photos already contained on
the ipod in it and deletes them accordingly.
The easiest way to transfer photos (at least i found
it easier lol) is to create a new folder on your
computer called "ipod photos" or something like that,
then copy all the photos that you want on your ipod
into that folder. Then sync the ipod photos from that
folder, and when you want to remove certain photos,
simply delete or move them from the folder, connect
    the ipod, and sync again.
    Hope this helps
Many thanks- I'll try that. I assume that it's the same procedure for Windows (you) and Mac (me)?
