IPod Photo still rules!  But, itunes doesn't recognize it any more...

Hi iPod Photo fans and experts,
I have an iPod Photo 30 GB model that I just restored, and now I can't get it to show up in the iTunes source list.  For the record I am running Windows XP SP2, and iTunes 10.  And, I have tried this on two different machines with this same setup with the same result.
The weird thing is, after restarting windows, when I plug in the iPod Photo, the ipod will open itunes automatically.  But, itunes will not recognize it.  itunes still recognizes my other ipod classic with no problem.
The ipod photo shows up as a usb drive, and is recognized in Windows explorer.
The ipod itself is running V 1.2.1.
I tried the 10 steps listed in the apple support section related to this issue, including reinstalling itunes.  I also tried plugging in the ipod in disk mode.
Is there anything else I can try?  Is there any way to update the ipods firmware without itunes?

Whenever I plug in my ipod the window comes up asking what I want to do with my music. When I click Itunes it says: IPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Did this start happening after you updated to Service Pack 3?
If so, open your Device Manager. (Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager".) Is your Device Manager currently completely blank?
When Device Manager is blank after an SP3 install, getting Device Manager displaying correctly again should also fix the "iPod Service Module" crash.
For a manual method of fixing the SP3 problem, see the following Microsoft document:
Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
For an automated tool for fixing the problem, see the following Symantec document:
Problems occur after installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 with a Norton 2008 product installed

  • I can't restore my iphone.  when i plug it in, the phone recognizes that it is plugged into itunes, but itunes doesn't recognize it

My iphone charges when I plug it into my computer, but itunes doesn't recognize that any device is attached (I have the latest version; a pc, not a mac; it's a Verizon iphone).  Also, the phone's info button (which should tell me the serial number) says "MEID: Unknown".  Apple support won't help me without the serial number...
Ideally, I would like a button combination to restore the phone to factory settings, so that I can activate it.  Or at least figure out the serial number so I can get tech support.

Serial # is below the model# on the BOX !!

  • IPhone says "Restore Needed", but iTunes doesn't recognize it. Now what?

My iPhone was sitting untouched this evening. When I woke it up, it said "Restore Needed. iPhone cannot make or receive calls. Restore from iTunes." But when I plug it in to my computer, iTunes doesn't recognize it. I have reset the phone to no avail. What do I do next?

Thanks for the reply. I tried everything suggested. Now when I try to restore the iPhone from iTunes, it says the iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (23).
    I give up.
Would it be better to take the phone to the AT&T store where I bought it, or to an Apple store?

  • IPod touch 2nd gen hooked up to computer but iTunes doesn't recognize it

My iPod touch 2g 8GB has always worked fine and synched with the computer, but now the computer doesn't recognze. It is hooked up to the cable and in the USB port. The iPod itself shows that it is charging, so it knows it's in the computer. iTunes should show devices but it doesn't. What should I do? I can't synch new songs or apps. I tried reseting everything and hooking up my ipod to a different port but still the computer doesn't recognize it.

  • Windows recognizes ipod nano (1st generation) but itunes doesn't

I'm a happy owner of ipod nano for about a year. My itunes and ipod nano was working perfectly until few days ago I encountered problems with both of them.
I fixed my itunes (which kept showing an error message when I tried to uninstall/repair it) but after i got that fixed my itunes couldn't detect my ipod nano.
I looked at a directions page in this website and it told me to "press start service" in something. (i forgot what that "something" was)
Whenever I connect my ipod nano to my itunes, the ipod folder & error message about "ipod service module" pops up.
I'm DESPERATE to fix this problem. So please answer my question and thank you. =]

One of the services in Windows that has to be on is iPod Service. If that service doesn't stay started, iTunes won't see the iPod.
Go into your services (administrative tools, services) and scroll down until you see it. If the service doesn't say started, right-click on it, choose start. In properties, it should show as automatic.
While I know you already reinstalled iTunes, another reinstall of it might put the service back in the correct mode of starting whenever iTunes needs it.

  • Ipod in recovery mode but itunes doesn't recognise it

Basically, I upgraded my iTunes to 9.0.3 yesterday. During this I got a message saying I should upgrade my iPod or something like that. During this there was an error, I can't remember what but then, my iPod disappeared from the devices. When I looked at the iPod it was telling me to connect with iTunes. When I did the computer said Computer found new device- Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). However, iTunes doesn't recognise it! I have tried uninstalling itunes and many things. I can't get it to work again. Please help!

I have the same problem. Yesterday I connected my iPod Touch to my PC and iTunes prompted me to update the ipod's software to 1.1.2 (I think thats the new one?), I accepted and it proceded to download it. When it finished downloading it tried to update the software but for some reason it failed. An error message came up saying that the ipod will have to be restored. I went ahead and tried to restore it, it gave an option for restore and update, that didn't work. My iPod won't even turn on now, it just shows the iTunes icon and the USB cable. When I connect to my PC iTunes says its in recovery mode and the software tries to do the update, the iPod screen shows the Apple logo and the updating icon, the screen goes blank and the process starts again, after a couple of attempts an error message appears on screen saying an error occurred and gives an error code of 1611 (or something like that).
Holding down sleep and home together doesn't do anything.
What is up with it? I've tried the same thing in my girlfriend macbook and the exact same error happened.

  • "Do not disconnect" comes up, but iTunes doesn't recognize it...

i have a 4 gb ipod nano, 4 months old. i tried to update it with the ipod updater, but that keeps saying "Can't mount ipod." ipod does not show up in itunes. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything on the whole website. the ipod has the screen "do not disconnect" as soon as i plug it into my computer, but neither itunes nor the ipod updater seems to recognize it - - so i don't know what it's doing that i can't disconnect it. please help - very frustrating considering it is so young...
thanks for any advice you can offer.

If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve the "can't mount iPod" issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

  • TS2446 my ipod touch is disabled tells me to connect to itunes but itunes doesn't recognize because my computer crashed and had to have fixed so doent recognize my ipod touch what do i do

My ipod touch was lost and now I got it back but someone locked it up and says my ipod touch is disabled tells me to connect to my itunes.  I connected to my itunes on my computer but will not recognize this ipod touch because since it was lost my computer crashed and nothing could be saved on it so I had to reload itunes and start from the beginning so how do I get my ipod touch out of "disabled" mode?

Try authorizing the computer because that may be the problem. And you need the latest version of itunes. Itunes 11.
To authorize the computer go to itunes then press store then authorize.

  • When my iphone 5s was doing an update my laptop died. Now it wont turn on it only will show me the screen to connect to iTunes but iTunes doesn't recognize that I have my phone plugged in. I cant access anything on my phone it just says connect to iTunes.

I have tried turning my phone, and laptop off, I also uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.

    Hello errod2014,
It sounds like you are unable to see your phone in iTunes after the computer turned off unexpectedly during an iOS update. I recommend resetting the phone first, and then attempting to restore with iTunes again.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If you are still unable to see your phone in iTunes,  follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.

However, itunes (which i also deinstalled and reinstalled - latest version). However when i go to the sharing tab on itunes it says that bonjour has been disabled.
    Any ideas?

  • My iphone 4 is frozen asking to syncronize with itunes, but itunes doesn't recognize it...

While updating the iphone software, my computer restarted. My iphone shows an image asking to be conected to itunes. After my computer went back to life, itunes seems to be working fine, but each time I try to conect my iphone, it is not recognized by itunes. I tried to restart my iphone but I cant. The image asking to be conected to itunes persists. What can I do?
    Thank you in advance.

Is there any way to do this without having itunes on my laptop available?
Sorry... No. Your Device is in Recovery Mode and needs to be connected to a computer running iTunes.
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
    See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
