IPod Photo thread deleted

I am getting a little bit annoyed now, with the over zealous deletion of peoples threads and now its happened to mine.
I asked a perfectly reasonable question is there was a way to recover the photos from my iPod Touch because the folder on my hard drive was deleted. There was nothing in it which violated the terms of use and none of the replies did either they were quite helpful. I hadn't done reading it and it was deleted from the discussion. So why was it deleted and if no one knows how do I contact a mod for an explanation?

Deleting iPod Photo Cache fixes iPhoto syncing error 208

Thanks to some buried posts, I learned that deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" in the iPhoto Library folder fixes the -208 error that occurs when syncing an iPod Video with images in iPhoto. Instead of manually deleting this folder, however, I used OnyX to clean all the caches.
I wish I tried this first before going through the iPod Restore process...

I followed your advice and I simply deleted the contents of the iPod Photo Cache folder, after having backed up the entire iPhoto Library.
Before doing it tried to solve the problem by I restarting iTunes, iPhoto and PowerBook a few times, hoping that it would have trigger the clean-up of the cached photo files. It did not.
So far I have not noticed any problems with iPhoto or iPod after the "forced" deletion. However, I am a little surprised that the cached files are not cleaned up automatically when the user reduces his selection of photos to be synced to iPod. Maybe the logic is that it is good to have even unused cached copies of the photos is case they are needed later (creating them is quite slow). Also I would have wanted to keep them, but I run out of disk space

How do you delete the ipod photo cache?

I added photos to my Ipod and it came up with a folder called "Ipod Photo Cache", It also came up with a folder called "Photo Library". When I enter both folders the only option I am given is to edit the picture but not delete it. Could someone please tell me how to delete the two folders?

QUICK TIP to delete annoying ipod photo cache
Check list:
1. Make sure you connect your device on the computer
2. Connect to Itunes
3. Click on iphone or ipod device
4. Select "photo" located slightly at the top right centre
You will notice a check mark beside "Sync Photos from" which the folder your cache is located in your computer synced to your phone
5. Make sure to DESELECT "All Folders" by clicking "Selected folders"
6. Lastly, click on the "SYNC" button below the window screen located on the right side.

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync

IPod Photo 60GB goes from sad icon to no reaction at all

After getting the sad icon after plugging it in, I took apart the iPod so I could reseat the hard drive and see what happens. I still got the sad icon (yes, sometimes re-seating the hard drive brings it back to life, based on my experiences), so I wanted to try again and put pressure on the center of the hard drive platters with my thumb.
In doing so, I accidentally disconnected the molex connector to the hold-switch. I forgot the state of the hold switch when this happened.
I put everything back together to see what will happen when I plug in the sync/power cable.
There's no reaction and no Apple logo.
How can I bring back the iPod at least back to the sad-icon state?

4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”

I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Ipod photo restore problems

i recently bought a second hand ipod and decided to restore it so i could start again. i followed the directions correctly. when the connect to mains icon appeared, i done so accordingly. sadly nothing happened. the icon still appeared even though i had attached it to the mains. i have also tried a car charger and even re-attaching it to my pc on different usb ports with different usb cables.
i hope i'm not left with a fancy paper weight.

Loading Podcast to iPod photo 20g

I have an iPod Photo 20gig. Works great, but I can't always get a podcast to load from my Mac to the iPod. When I try to drag it from my iTunes list to the iPod (in iTunes), the iPod icon in iTunes won't highlight, and I can't load up the selected podcast. This is only happening with one podcast.

In another thread ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1524557 ) turingtest2 suggests that "you must use an automatic sync option (at least for the Podcasts section) for them to appear in the iPod's Podcast menu". Perhaps the Classic is more demanding with Podcasts, who knows!

As you say that you see the capacity decrease due to audio content, that would suggest that the Podcasts are in audio somewhere and have not been transferred as data files. Check in the music section under Artists, Albums and even Genres/Podcasts. If you cannot find them, I'm not sure what else to suggest.
I've got an equally silly question, why don't you use sync to automatically load your iPod, rather than dragging stuff on and off? Unless your total audio content is greater than your iPod's capacity, it is by far the best thing to do. You can still manage the content, by selecting/unselecting the individual song titles in your library and you can also keep all the Podcasts or let iTunes delete them once you have listened to them.

Ipod photo will not sync???

I have Adobe Photoshop 3.0 starter edition. I have read all the material on the web relating to syncing photo. I have gone through all the steps several times. I get an error message "The ipod "Compaq Owner's iPod" cannot be updated. The disk cannot be read from or written to.
Is it the Starter Edition of photoshop that is the problem? Is this just a matter of obtaining different software or is there something I can do to correct this?

Why does iTunes use an iPod Photo Cache at all?

Hi,
When iTunes is used to synchronize photos to a device, it creates an "iPod Photo Cache" folder. Why does this folder even exist?
For users that have multiple devices with multiple resolutions (e.g., iPad 3rd Generation, iPad Mini, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3G), the iPod Photo Cache is grow to approximately four times the original size of the photo. If I have 15 GBs of photos and a 250 GB hard drive, then the combined usage of 75 GBs (15 GB photos + 60 GB cache) is extremely unreasonble.
Device resolutions change often enough (these days) such that having multiple devices is probably more common than having more than one of a single product. iTunes should be designed to do the real-time conversion (which it already does), but not save it to the hard drive.
Also allowing the ability to change the location of the "iPod Photo Cache" folder would help many users, but not myself since I do not have an external drive.

Thank you for your response. I should have clarified. When trying to delete from the library, it gives me the option to delete them from the computer or just from the library. I choose not to delete them from the computer, just the library. As a result, I would not expect the deletions to free up room on the hard drive, but I don't see how it actually increases the space used up on the hard drive. If I delete a song from the library, but not the computer, does iTunes save the song again someplace else (such that there are now two copies of the song somewhere on the system)? That seems to be the only explanation for why the free space on my hard drive would decrease after deleting a song from the library.

Those photos taken or bumped photos should bi in the iPod's Camera Roll album
- If they are in an iPod backup then restore from that backup. Note however, that the the backup that had the photos may have been overwritten by a subsequent backup that did hot have the photos on the iPod.See the restore topic of:

- If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

- Have you looked on the computer? Maybe they were imported to the computer and then deleted from the iPod. Since the photos were not synced to the iPod they are not in the iPod Photo Cache folder .

Purpose of folder "Ipod Photo Cache"?

What is the purpose of this folder? Should it be deleted automatically by iTunes after syncing? I've seen several posts here suggesting to delete the folder to try to resolve photo syncing issues. A co-worker tells me that this folder on his machine contains 2GB of .ithmb files. That seems to be a lot of space used unnecessarily.

No, it isn't/shouldn't be automatically deleted. When photos are synced to an iPhone (or iPod), iTunes creates an 'optimized' version of the picture (all the files are of uniform disk size and pixel resolution) and those are stored in the iPod Photo Cache. You can recover that space if you need to, especially if you put a lot of photos on the device that you later removed (by unchecking those albums, for example). If you delete the cache, iTunes will re-create the optimized versions at the next sync (for all the pics on the device).

@DaVBMan, as to why it's large, regardless of their original size, 'optimized' pics take up the same amount of space in the cache, for a given device.
Note that this means if you sync the same photo to an iPhone and an iPod Classic, there will be two copies of that photo in the cache, totaling ~1.6 MB for that one pic, +even if the original pic is a 1 megapixel jpg that's only 150 KB in iPhoto.+

New Hard Drive- How to upload from iPod Photo without access to old drive

Needed to purchase/install a new hard drive after Windows corruption on my old pc. My iPod Photo is completely backed up with my entire library/playlists, etc. Old music files were copied to my new hard drive but the iTunes application needs to be reloaded. I am hoping there is a way to sync my iPod with the new version of iTunes on my new hard drive and have the iPod used as a backup drive. Everything I read about this suggests I need access to my old hard drive to change settings on the iPod before I will be able to upload to the new software from the iPod. Does anyone know if what I want to do is possible so that I can retain all of my playlists, etc the way they are? Thanks so much.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Vista so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
