IPod Photo Transfer Error

I have the iPod Photo and the newest version of iTunes and iLife 05'.
I have more Photos in iPhoto than i have music in iTunes so transfering Photos to my iPod Photo is nothing new.
But for some reason I imported a new batch of photos in to iPhoto as usual and had no problems, plugged in my iPod and let iTunes start syncing as usual and once it got to the photo part it gave me an error message:
"Some of your photos, including the photo "PICT0047.JPG", were not copied to the iPod "Jamie Claughton's iPod" because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
I was hoping some one would be able to tell me why this is happening as these photos are from the same camera as normal and I don't feel I have done anything different to what I would normally do.
Has any one ever had this message before and do you know what causes it?
Thank you for your time.
Jamie Claughton

I recently got the same errors happening on my setup. What's strange is the photo is the exact same format as others that did transfer from the same roll. I did happen to find that I had an older photo whose filename was the same, so that might be affecting it, but one would think same filename, different import shouldn't matter.

  • IPod photo transfer problem

I am having trouble getting my photos from my iPod to a computer. When I connect the iPod to its home computer, the box to use the iPod as a disk drive and the box to include full size photos are both checked. When I open the iPod drive icon in 'My Computer' there is a folder named Photos, but the only things inside are a file named 'Photo Database' and a folder named 'Thumbs.' Inside the Thumbs folder there are various fairly large '.ithmb' files, but there is no sign of any standard photo formats. Any thoughts on what might be going on or how to get my photos would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
If you are only seeing a folder for Thumbs then it sounds like the the "Include Full Resolution photos" box was unchecked when the photos were added. iTunes has only added "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.

  • Windows iPod Photo Transfer to new iMac G5 Query

    Hi,
I have a 40 GB iPod Photo that is fortmated for use with a PC using Windows Pro.
I have over 28 GB data or tracks on it, and i now wish to use it with my new iMac G5 that I have just purchased.
The thing is I dont know how to go about doing this, because I am concerned that if I copnnect it to my iMac G5, iTunes will remove all of the music that is already on my iPod, and I cannot have that happen, as It would take me forever to copy them to CDrom and then timport them into the iMac, I gues it would probably take me all of the Christmas and new year that way, and I have no idea if that would work poperly anyway.
Can anyone advise me how I can achieve my move over to the Apple computer please, without loosing my music. Once this is done I will not be wanting to connect it to my PC again. My iPod Photo is also set to 'Disc Mode' in iTunes so that I can see it as a drive in Windows if this is of any help.
Hope someone here can help or advise me.
    Thanks In Advance

    Nick,
As far as the Maxtor drive is concerned, I have kept it formatted as a NTFS Windows drive because OS X can read it without any problems at all, and apparently, according to Maxtor's web-site, if I format it as a Mac drive then it will not be recognised by the Windows system, and that I would have to partition it above 32MB!
So, I have purchased a Belkin Wireless Cable Router (it works with ADSL as well) for about 40 UK pounds. This I have connected to my Win XP machine with an Ethernet cable, and I now access both my 10MB Broadband cable connection and my Win XP machine on the iMac via the Airport Extreme wireless connection.
It was extremely (forgive the pun) easy to set-up, and took about 40 minutes from start to finish and that's only because the Windows machine crashed once, but after that it was just fine.
If you can, I would consider going for the Ethernet/Router way because it gives you access to both machines and Internet connections as well as printer and scanner sharing.
So if you wan't to know anything else, just let me know and I will do my best to explain.
Hope you had a good Christmas and Happy New year!

  • PC to Mac transfer photos and Music from ipod photo 30gb

My pc crashed and I got a mac, I don't know how to transfer music and photos to my new mac. I've read, something about senuti with an ipod shuffle. I want to know if its the same process to follow?
    Any help will be great

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
If not, there are a few programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
Keith's iPod Photo Reader Mac only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
TouchCopy Mac and Windows Versions (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Using iPod to transfer photos

I'm using iPod to transfer photos from one Mac to another. They were uploaded from iPhoto 4.03 following directions, and downloaded to the second computer with iPhoto '08 (7.1.5) using iPod as an external drive. However only 23 photos out of hundreds downloaded. I get the message, "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." These files are listed:
    /Volumes/name/Photos/Thumbs
    /Volumes/name/Photos/Photo Database
I'm assuming it's the database file that's the problem, but why would some photos download and not the rest? Opening the Photos folder in the iPod icon, there are only two items. The Photo Database is shown as a Unix file. There are only six thumbs in that folder, and they are all Unix as well.
I posted this in iPod discussion, but hoped an iPhoto expert might also help me.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

What's the HD feature? I don't have the iPod synced to iPhoto in the second computer; I have it on Manually manage music and videos.
There's a possibility that it did sync in the first computer before I checked that option, but no photos uploaded until I did it manually, so it doesn't seem so. Also, the icon appeared on the desktop and that doesn't happen if it's synced, does it?
It definitely did not sync in the second one as it was already checked when I connected it.
And I keep going back to, why did some photos import and not the rest?
    Thanks for sticking with me.

  • Sycn error -50 with iTunes 5 and iPod Photo 60G

    Hello,
I updated to iTunes 5 (german) on a W2K SP4. The first sync with my iPod Photo was fine. Now I synced again and received error: It was not possible to syncronize your iPod. An unkown error occured (-50).
After that I updated my iPod to latest iPod Updater 2005-09-06, but still get the same error.
Anyhow it seems that the sync still work. At least for renaming playlists.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
you might want to restore your iPod completely using the Updater 2006-09-06. Even though it's a hassle, but I had some cover art mess on the iPod, but not in iTunes. So I restored with Updater and after that the syncing worked fine and ever since.
    Hope that'll help!

  • ITunes for Mac Error -50 when syncing iPod photo

OS X 10.5.4 iTunes 7.7 Getting error -50 when syncing photos to my 60G iPod Photo, music is synced but not alll checked photos. I have AppleTV and 2 iPhones that are synced with this computer and all 3 of those are synced properly. But this iPod is giving me fits. I have restored the iPod and re-synced to no avail. Are there any plists that are hidden that I can trash. I have read about keywords on photos causing it, but I have 19,0000 tagged photos and I can't look at each one for a corrupt keyword. I have turned on albums one at a time with no help. Seems like a sync is a sync iPhone, iPod, AppleTV. Why different results? I am trying to get the same photos as on iPhones (16G), and the Apple TV has all of my songs and Photos, so the keyword thing may be bogus info.

Hi! I am having the same problem...how did you fix it?
    Thanks!

  • Error iPod Photo won't update

I have 2600 songs in my library, but my iPod photo will only update about 1500. Then I get an error -XX Unable to update Cali's iPod an error occurred. I have 60GB so I know it is not a capacity issue. I tried the tips from Apple (deleting the photo directory) and completely re-formatting my iPod 3 times.
To make things worse. My library keeps getting corrupt and I have to import my CDs over and over again. The new thing is that all the files are being renamed to four letter files randomly. I have spent literally days on this. Can someone please help me? I never had this issue with my 20GB regular iPod. Could that be it?
    Please help,
    Cali

  • Photo transfer to Ipod Touch in Field

    HI;
I did a lot of searching on this topic, and didn't find any way that it was supported, but thought I would ask in case there is something new.
I am looking for some way to transfer photos from my camera to Ipod touch without a computer. I would like to be able to quickly e-mail a photo via wifi when I am out. I know there was the device for the Ipod Photo, but from what I can tell, there was never anything like that made for the Itouch.
I can use a camera with CF or one with SD if that would help.
The only possible solution I found would be to use a product for the camera called EI-FI, which is a SD card that automatically uploads your photos to the web, then I assume you could access them from your Ipod via the web browser. The only real problem I have with this, is I am not clear how long it would take the EI-FI card to transfer the photos from the card to the web so I could download them on my touch.
I would much prefer a direct transfer to the touch via cable or wireless. (or if they would build in a camera on the Touch, that would be perfect )
    Thanks
    Jamie

You might be able to use the Eye-Fi card at http://www.eye.fi/overview/ in conjunction with the Air Sharing application on a touch.
I expect to see them early next month at a large photo show and will ask them about such support. I'll blog what they say.

  • Deleting iPod Photo Cache fixes iPhoto syncing error 208

Thanks to some buried posts, I learned that deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" in the iPhoto Library folder fixes the -208 error that occurs when syncing an iPod Video with images in iPhoto. Instead of manually deleting this folder, however, I used OnyX to clean all the caches.
I wish I tried this first before going through the iPod Restore process...

15 PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Soon to be a new MBP Core 2 Duo!

    Hi Paul,
I followed your advice and I simply deleted the contents of the iPod Photo Cache folder, after having backed up the entire iPhoto Library.
Before doing it tried to solve the problem by I restarting iTunes, iPhoto and PowerBook a few times, hoping that it would have trigger the clean-up of the cached photo files. It did not.
So far I have not noticed any problems with iPhoto or iPod after the "forced" deletion. However, I am a little surprised that the cached files are not cleaned up automatically when the user reduces his selection of photos to be synced to iPod. Maybe the logic is that it is good to have even unused cached copies of the photos is case they are needed later (creating them is quite slow). Also I would have wanted to keep them, but I run out of disk space

My old iPod Photo sync'd with 10.6 but won't with my new iMac running 10.7, I get an error message and a message that it could not sync, am I done?

What's the error message say, exactly?  Does the error occur when you sync, or when you just connect it?  Does the iPod appear in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES), or does this error occur before that can happen?
I have an old 4th Gen (color screen) iPod, which should be the same as an "iPod Photo."  It's been sitting idle for a while, but I just connected it to my iMac running Mac OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.6.1.  I think it's the first time I tried since upgrading to Lion.  It connected and synced fine using USB.
