my ipod photos folder is on my old computer but i also have the same folder on an external drive, i hooked the external drive up to my computer, found the folder but there wasnt any pictures in it....what do i do now?

Maybe I don't fully understand your question, but this isn't really an iPod problem. But, it the folder is also on the old computer, just transfer it.

I am Having iPod Photo troubles.

My ipod photo has been having some issues. I plug it into the wall or dock and I get the extremely low battery symbol. Eventually it goes to the apple logo as if it is turning on, and most times it will not turn on. SOmetimes however it DOES turn on, but with issues. It shows that it is charging, but if I do anything it either frrezes and restarts or tells me I am out of battery, while it shows the charging icon in the top corner. I have tried a reset on the device many times, as well as a factory reset through Itunes and nothing has resolved this issue. Do I need a new battery, or is there another issue? When I synced my photo into my ipod, my ipod can't display all the photo that synced and most of the photo cannot display correctly.......how can I do?

Open Windows explorer and locate your iPod. When you open it you'll see some folders on of which will be Photos. Inside the Photo folder you'll find a folder for "Thumbs" (the photos optimised for viewing on the iPod) and if you have it enabled in preferences to "Include Full Resolution photos" you'll find another for "Full Resolution" open this one and drag the photos to your hard drive.

Trouble with ipod photo cache

Hi. Another newbie question. I have a a folder in my photos called ipod photo cache. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I read that I have to go into itunes, go to my device, go to photos and uncheck a box that says photo sync or something like that, and the folder will go away. I did that (i think) and the folder is still there. Can anyone help me get rid of this folder? I'm old school when it comes to my photos. I like to manually drag them to the folders on my pc that I want them in. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Take it to the iPod store. They're not going to give you a nano - they're going to fix or replace yours - unless of course, they decide it's not under warranty because you don't have a receipt?

IPod Photo 60GB goes from sad icon to no reaction at all

After getting the sad icon after plugging it in, I took apart the iPod so I could reseat the hard drive and see what happens. I still got the sad icon (yes, sometimes re-seating the hard drive brings it back to life, based on my experiences), so I wanted to try again and put pressure on the center of the hard drive platters with my thumb.
In doing so, I accidentally disconnected the molex connector to the hold-switch. I forgot the state of the hold switch when this happened.
I put everything back together to see what will happen when I plug in the sync/power cable.
There's no reaction and no Apple logo.
How can I bring back the iPod at least back to the sad-icon state?

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Syching Photos from Itunes to Ipod Photo 30G

I am having the worst time syching my photos from my PC computer to my ipod photo. I am using my family computer because my laptop is kaput.
I am starting over...from scratch. Deleted everything on my ipod and hoping to synch it all back on there from point blank.
I have succesfully synched my music. --playlists still in progress but that is my problem!
I am having trouble synching my photos back onto my ipod. It shows no progress just says "Syncing iPod. Do not Disconnect." And it kills be because I started out with about 15,000 pics to sync...I've taken it down to only 15 and it is still not doing what I want it too.
Maybe I should be more paitent but I don't remember it ever being this slow or without any progression showing on the screen.
What can I do, what am I doing wrong? What should I do?!

In case you still didn't get this to work, I found that iTunes didn't have permissions writing to the iPod photo cache directory on my Vista machine by default.
If you suspect that's happening for you, go ahead and try this:
1) Find the directory on your computer where the "iPod Photo Cache" is stored.
2) On that directory, grant "Read" and "Write" access to the "Users" group.
After that, try synching your photos, and hopefully you'll start to see some success...

Transferring photos on Ipod Photo

i Have an Ipod Photo 60GB . it all works Ok and i have music and 20,000 Photos stored on it. However i have the following problem.
i can synch my photos from My G5 to the ipod and store them ok.
but what i want to be able to do is to transfer all my photos that are then on that Ipod to my laptop (ibook),.
but when i connect the ipod to it its asks if i want to synch to that library , and update that ipod to that library on the ibook which is not what i want the ipod to do.
i want the synch d library from the G5 transferred across.
I simply want to transfer individual photos or library stored on the Ipod from there to the harddrive of the Ibook. So that i have the same photos on both machines. so i can show people the pictures from the ibook but seem unable to do it.

I'm having the same problem, yet my "enable disk use" check is grayed out. I'm in the understanding that because I set my iPod to manually update, it's already enabled for disk use, so I don't have to worry about it.
However, I'm still having trouble seeing my photos. The iPod meter says I have 800k worth of photos on my iPod (5th gen 80-gig video), but when I scroll to the photos menu from the iPod itself, I only see the slideshow settings. I've properly set my photos folder to sync and followed all the directions. I know there are other people who have the same problem and yet no one on the forums seems to answer or are treating them like they're stupid.

IPod Photo refuses to sleep when hard drive is spinning

I am own an iPod Photo 60GB running the iPod Software 1.2 (for iPod with color display).
I cannot turn my iPod Photo 60GB off/put it into sleep mode while the hard drive is being accessed or spinning. This normally means that some music is playing, but it also can happen when a track is paused. This issue occurs for both ways to put an iPod into sleep mode: 1)"Sleep" from the menu, or 2)holding the play/pause button for a few seconds. Attempting either of these methods of turning my iPod off/putting it to sleep while the hard drive is spinning results in the iPod NOT going to sleep. When I select the "Sleep" item from the menu, I can hear the "click" sound, so I know the selection of that menu item is being detected by my iPod.
Generally speaking, this issue happens when I have just removed my iPod from being docked with my computer, and it starts playing a track because I hit the play button accidentally while disconnecting the iPod. Usally the first thing I want to do is put the iPod to sleep, because I am going somewhere and don't want to use that battery when I'm not listening to it.
My workaround: If I select a track at the end of an album/playlist, and then fast forward to the end of that track so that NO music/sound is playing on my iPod Photo 60GB, and the hard drive is not spinning, then I am able to use the "Sleep" menu item or the hold the play/pause button for a few seconds method. Also, if I let the track play for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute or two until the the hard drive is not spinning anymore, then I am able to put my iPod to sleep. But shouldn't the sleep feature work immediately? None of Apple's documentation or TIL articles suggest otherwise.
This problem is not related to the hold switch being in the "hold" position, as I am trying all of this with the hold switch NOT in the "hold" position. Also, it is not related to the battery power being low, as it happens with a full charge.
I have read threads with a similar issue to mine, however the clarification needs to be made that this "bug", as I'll call it, only occurs when the hard drive is spinning/being accessed. Many people have mentioned troubles with putting their iPod to sleep while listening to a Podcast. This makes sense because some Podcasts are too large to fit into the iPod's RAM cache, and so the hard drive is accessing the Podcast through it's entire length. None of these threads have any useful input from Apple Computer support other than the suggestion of resetting the iPod or restoring the iPod's software. In both cases, the suggested solution DOES NOT fix the problem permanently.
With the hopes that because ALL iPods that Apple sells currently will most likely have this problem, by starting a "new", more detailed thread on this issue, perhaps Apple will get this message to a higher level and actually do something about it.
I would highly suggest if you have an iPod Photo (any size) or one of the "new" color iPod's, that you try seeing if you can put your iPod to sleep when your hard drive is being accessed, and if not - Please Post on this Thread. The more posts that come up on a thread, the more likely that someone with Apple will notice.

To elaborate more on what Rob said. Since the iPod is a hard drive based device(similar to your computer) the disc inside spins and there is a needle to read the data.
What you are suggusting would be like yanking the power cord out of your computer in mid install of something, the chance of data lose is there and if happened enough bad sectors can arise. Should you do that? No, Would you do it? In most cases not.
A bad sector would in most causes make the ipod freeze when accessing it or make it fail its disk check and requiring replacement.

Ipod photo restore problems

i recently bought a second hand ipod and decided to restore it so i could start again. i followed the directions correctly. when the connect to mains icon appeared, i done so accordingly. sadly nothing happened. the icon still appeared even though i had attached it to the mains. i have also tried a car charger and even re-attaching it to my pc on different usb ports with different usb cables.
i hope i'm not left with a fancy paper weight.

Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

IPod photo transfer problem

I am having trouble getting my photos from my iPod to a computer. When I connect the iPod to its home computer, the box to use the iPod as a disk drive and the box to include full size photos are both checked. When I open the iPod drive icon in 'My Computer' there is a folder named Photos, but the only things inside are a file named 'Photo Database' and a folder named 'Thumbs.' Inside the Thumbs folder there are various fairly large '.ithmb' files, but there is no sign of any standard photo formats. Any thoughts on what might be going on or how to get my photos would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you are only seeing a folder for Thumbs then it sounds like the the "Include Full Resolution photos" box was unchecked when the photos were added. iTunes has only added "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.

IPod photo 40 gb flaw

Hi,
I own a iPod 40 gb photo, i've had the ipod for almost 3 years now and my Apple care is about to run out. Since i have owned this model iPod i have had a problem with it all of a sudden start to continualy restart, this has happened 3 times and i have sent it into apple to get a new one each time. My Apple care runs out in December, i'm courious if there is a flaw with this model and should i sell it once i get my next one in the mail.

None that I know of. My iPod photo is 2 years old
and has worked flawlessly since day one.
What steps have you taken to address the issue (other
than returning it)?
I have tried all Apples trouble shooting tips.
1. tried restarting device (menu+select)
2. plugging it into wall outlet
3. Plugging it into both firewire and usb on both my mac and windows (no response on computers to device).
While owning the 3 ipods i have keep the software updated all the time and the ipod stayed in a case and in good operating temp.

30gig Ipod Photo appears to be broke..HELP

In march i bought a 30 gig ipod photo and i loved it....i use it with windows and it is absolutely fantastic and has worked flawlessly since.
All of a sudden there yesterday, i tried to plug it into my puter and nothing happened....odd i thought.
no "do not connect" sign, no show in devices on pc....nothing. Changed usb port....no go.....changed computer no go....***?
also, it doesnt appear to charge when plugged into the usb either, yet when i plug it in the mains....woof...charges fine.
finally, after a wee bit of web searching, i found the diagnostic mode and did a test on IO/Comms and the result "ID=0x22FA05" came up on the screen.
Help me out here guys......need this sorted....work will be mundaaaaaaaaaaaane without my baby.

Dont use USB 2.0 on windows XP!!!!!!!! It dont work and if it does it is not reliable!! I had weeks of trouble with my 60GB Photo ipod until I invested last night in a firewire PCI card & cable. Works like lightning now with no silly error messages any more. Some one at apple should really sourt out the USB 2.0 problem!!!!!

Ipod photo will not turn on

I have a 60 GB ipod photo and until this past week it has been trouble free since it was purchased in May 2005. I was charging it using a wall outlet instead of via the USB port when the problem emerged. It was fine one minute - flashing the "charging" screen - and the next minute it looked as though it had been turned off. I tried to turn it back on, reconnected it to the charger which normally will power on the unit, but nothing has worked to get it to switch back on (the hold button is not engaged). It's been off for over 5 days now. Has this happened to anyone else? any ideas what it could be the result of and what needs to be done to fix it?

IPod Photo no longer recognized by iTunes 10

I do not know how long ago my iPod Photo stopped being recognized by iTunes. It is certainly an old iPod that I occasionally use to record voice for podcast.
Today, I noticed that this iPod Photo no longer shows up in iTunes 10. I connected it to two Mac's; one is a G5 tower running OS 10.5.8 and the other is a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.1.
My current objective is to get the voice file off of this iPod Photo. But, of course, it will be nice to have access to it in iTunes 10.
Please advise.

Not sure as to why this happening, other than the fact that is probably related to the new iTunes 10. Have you try any of the basics yet? Since the iPod does not appear on either system, the cause could be the cable you are using to connect it with. If at all possible, try using a different cable. I would also try different USB ports on each computer as well. What happens when you reset it with it still connected to either Mac?
Another possible solution to at least get it mounted as drive on one of your systems is to place the iPod into *Disk Mode* as described in this Apple support document.

Why does iTunes use an iPod Photo Cache at all?

Hi,
When iTunes is used to synchronize photos to a device, it creates an "iPod Photo Cache" folder. Why does this folder even exist?
For users that have multiple devices with multiple resolutions (e.g., iPad 3rd Generation, iPad Mini, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3G), the iPod Photo Cache is grow to approximately four times the original size of the photo. If I have 15 GBs of photos and a 250 GB hard drive, then the combined usage of 75 GBs (15 GB photos + 60 GB cache) is extremely unreasonble.
Device resolutions change often enough (these days) such that having multiple devices is probably more common than having more than one of a single product. iTunes should be designed to do the real-time conversion (which it already does), but not save it to the hard drive.
Also allowing the ability to change the location of the "iPod Photo Cache" folder would help many users, but not myself since I do not have an external drive.

Thank you for your response. I should have clarified. When trying to delete from the library, it gives me the option to delete them from the computer or just from the library. I choose not to delete them from the computer, just the library. As a result, I would not expect the deletions to free up room on the hard drive, but I don't see how it actually increases the space used up on the hard drive. If I delete a song from the library, but not the computer, does iTunes save the song again someplace else (such that there are now two copies of the song somewhere on the system)? That seems to be the only explanation for why the free space on my hard drive would decrease after deleting a song from the library.
