IPod 'play icon' appears while browsing in Safari - v1.1.1

Since updating to v1.1.1, I've noticed the iPod play icon will suddenly appear while browsing the web in Safari (upper right corner). I am not listening to music when it happens. Once it appears, the only way to make it go away is to go into iPod, start playing a song, then stop the song. This happens quite regularly, yet it is intermittent. Has anyone else seen this before?

Ditto for me and again only after I installed 1.1.1. But I also experienced a myriad of other problems after the upgrade (battery life, getting hot, screen freeze-up, etc). Sent it in to AppleCare. Guess what, the new loaner does the SAME stuff! Hopefully Apple will figure out that there is a corrupt version of the upgrade somewhere out there and fix it. Fingers crossed thta I get my old phone back repaired!

please help!! my ipod seems to be stuck. when i try to play music, the play icon shows up but the counters at bottom of screen do not move, nor does the song play.
I can play games, they are not stuck
I have reset ipod, and also restored it original settings multiple times with no luck.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The songs are grayed out in iTunes because the iPod is set to automatically update. That is normal.
As for the songs skipping and not playing, that is not.
Try resetting your iPod...
Reset iPod
Also, make sure all the software on both your computer and iPod is up to date...

IPod Adapter icon appears and nothing else happens HELP

i got this ipod and all of a sudden a picture (icon) appears on the screen its a picture of a ipod Usb port adapter and nothing else happens its stuck there if anyone knows what to do please help.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

"Crashing" while browsing in Safari

Hello all,
I recently purchased an 8 gig iPod touch, and so far its awesome. I only have one problem.
Sometimes, whenever I browse safari, the loading of a page seems to slow, and my touch just goes back to the homescreen. Whenever I open safari again, its on the page that I was browsing the time before it crashed (like I never opened safari that time). It seems to happen totally randomly - not on a certain page. I don't think its because the wifi signal gets weak, because I tested it right next to my router, and it still crashes periodically.
If anyone can help me out, that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

Wow, first off who taught you to read. I quote "There is really nothing to help you out with here. This has been widely reported, and there is no 'fix' for this behavior." As I said restoring is not going to help this particular issue, but if you are having multiple problems with your ipod, it could very well be a case of software on the ipod plain old being screwed up, which has happened OFTEN. In these cases a restore DOES often help, and is the only thing that can be done. There are no utilities or any way of "fixing" the software on the ipod besides restoring it. If you actually have something useful to contribute that is actually going to help people out then by all means let us know, but as for your previous post, I would consider that the definition of wasted time.

Web pages crash while browsing in safari

Web pages continue to crash even after trying a factory reinstall.

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or ....Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Or ....Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.

How can I make icons appear while thunderbird is open?

While I have Thunderbird open I normally can see my icons at the bottom of the screen (file manager, firefox, etc) but now they do not appear and I have to quit Thunderbird when I want to go to a different program.

It sounds like you have 'full screen' mode which I thought was not available...mmmmm!
Check your ~Tools > add-ons
How many 'themes' do you have listed?
Is there only one called default and it is selected?
If you have more than one, select/enable 'default' and delete/remove all other themes.
Close and restart Thunderbird.

Double-tapping the "Home" button at the bottom of the iPhone when in locked mode displays/hides the play/pause etc symbols, so that you can control your music without having to unlock your phone

Just to clarify, my ipod is brand new, it makes a crackling sound but that is all, when I play music or apps it works! I have reset it 3 times and it hasn't worked yet!! the only problem I see (BTW from the very beginning already for 3 years ) there are two sectors reallocated (visible in SMART diagonstics. the treshhold being 36). Otherwise everything seems all right, sectors. preference files. privileges,....... Do you think those two sectors make a problem now?

Very Weird Problem with Images on Websites while browsing with Safari

but when I open the same webpage in IE all the images load up in their proper covers just fine.
Also no I haven't done any photo editing in photoshop or anything recently, this just happened out of nowhere it was totally random. Also I have 2 monitors and the colour problems happen on both of them..... so I'm very confused

Just checking ... when you reinstalled Safari, did you reinstall Apple Application Support as well?
If not, there's instructions for doing that on XP in the following post:

(Some of the main Safari dlls live in Apple Application Support in version 4.0.4 ... so if there's a really subtle issue going on with one of those, the "complete and careful" reinstall of both AAS and Safari might do the trick.)

When I open a new tab, an I Play icon appears with a search box. I prefer an empty page. How do I get rid of this customized tab? I thought I deleted all program references to I Play when I uninstalled a game I had played.

In Firefox go to Tools>Add-ons>Extensions and remove the Oberon Games Bar.
Then restart Firefox...
That should remove it.

Play Icon Stuck Next to Battery Icon?

I can't really complain about yesterday's update. I LOVE the iPod controls and iTunes Wifi. My only question is, does anyone else have the iPod play icon stuck next to their battery icon? Mine doesn't go away even when I'm not listening to music. When I pause (and essentially stop listening to music) it might show the pause icon for a little while but if I go into another application or put my baby into sleep mode then wake it up... the play icon is back.

Ok. This happened to me a couple of times when I first got my iPhone back in July (so not sure it has to do with the recent update).
My question I guess is when you get out of the ipod application, do you just hit the home button to get out?
I ask because I found if I did that, not only did I have the "play" button still show up, but the name of the song appeared on the home menu.
What I learned to do was when exiting the ipod app, I first paused the song, then backed out of it by way of the arrow on the upper left hand corner, then I would press the home button for about 6-8 seconds taking me to the home screen. I have not had that problem ever since.
It's worth a shot for you all.

HT2463 Air Play icon disappears after a few seconds of opening ports in router settings.

The AIr Play icon no longer consistently appears on my iMac or my iPad. Apple TV is 3rd gen, iPad is 4th gen, iMac is latest (2012) router being used is Linksys (Cisco) E3000. Opened TCP ports 123, 3689, and UDP 5353, and after saving the router settings, the Air Play icon appeared on iPad but disappeared again after less than a minute. The Air Play also appeared on my iMac and when I clicked the rainbow wheel appeared and after less than a minte the Air Play icon vanished again. I have performed restores of the AppleTV both by using the iMac with a micro USB and also did a restore while connected to the television. Any other suggestions before I take it into the local Apple store? Thanks.

I set an appointment at local Apple store Genius bar. The tech helped walk through and eliminate possible variables until we agreed it must be a problem with my router. BTW, the tech hooked up my Apple TV at the store and it worked perfectly using the Apple store network. I went home and restored my router to the factory default (like out of the box when it was new) and re-set it up. When I finished my Apple TV has been displaying the AirPlay icon flawlessly. Hopeful it will continue, but resetting one's router to factory defaults may fix your problem if you are expeiencing same issue when the AirPlay icon goes missing.

Ipod Sad Icon Symbol - Fully Discharged - No charging...

I left my 60Gb ipod in my office drawer during the weekend. On Monday when I tried to turn it on it showed the low battery symbol (althought it was fully charged on Friday) and when I plugged it into the USB cable the ipod Sad Icon appeared.
I tried to reset the ipod and the monochromatic apple symbol appeared showing it was fully discharged.
I left it charging for all night long, but the problem persists.
Any idea?

Can anybody help with this? I do not think it's a battery problem as it is actually being charged. If anything it's a software problem?...

Touch displays PLAY icon while in safari then crashes....

Not sure if you are having this problem too!
However - when Im surfing the touch I notice that I get a little PLAY icon beside my battery, which is indicating that I am listening to music while surfing which you CANNOT do. The only way to fix this problem is call up the music controller with the double click of the home button. When I do that the controller DOES NOT indicate that the music is actually playing - but I hit play and pause repeatedly until the icon by my battery icon goes away. I have plugged headphones in during this play icon showing and NOTHING is actually playing.
I have noticed that this happens right before my safari crashes back to the home desktop. Once I noticed this the first time I have watched it closely and everytime that my safari crashes its because the Touch believes that its playing music. If you attempt to surf away while that icon is showing it will crash out.
Not sure what to do or where to go from here, to me it sounds like it could be fixed in a software update, but firstly Im trying to find out if this is widespread problem.
Anyone else noticed the Touch starting playing automatically or at least think that its playing?

Well what I said was - I wasn't trying to listen to music and the Ipod Touch displayed the PLAY icon on its own. When I put headphones in it isn't actually playing anything. If you attempt to browse from the current site that you are on with this INCORRECT icon being displayed - then my touch crashes out of safari!
That is my problem - Im attempting for find out if anyone else has had any similar problem before - this thread wasn't created to talk about the ability of the Touch to play music and use safari.
