IPod - Play Movie Audio Only

Hi,
I am going to buy an 5g iPod video in the next few weeks, and was wondering. If I hook it up to my car through the headphone jack, is there a way to listen to movies without displaying the video to save battery life.

Just go in the iPod main menu to Video -> Video settings, then select the TV Out setting and turn it ON or ASK. When you play a movie the movie video will go out the headphone jack and the screen will just show a static icon and the movie name like it does with tunes. I think the backlight on the LCD will treated like it is when you play music where it will be on for 5 or 10 seconds then turn off.

Front Row .mov - audio only

Hi guys, i've been trying to watch some .MOV files in Front Row and it has issues with some only playing audio.
As far as i can deduce, with basically nil knowledge about computing, the common theme with files played in Front Row, playing audio only, is that they have been filmed on iphone with the iPhone upright and hence the format described by QTime Inspector as the video's 'normal size' is 720x1280 but the displayed/played format is 1280x 720.
I've played with all settings in Movie Properties (there were only a small handful of links to discussions with folks experiencing similar issues) to no avail.
It isn't essential that i can see these movies in Front Row, but i would like to be able to.

Have you tried loading Perian (www.perian.org)? That will provide you with many additional CODECs which SHOULD solve the problem...

ITunes 10 won't play movie audio thru remote speakers

I just downloaded a movie and wanted to play the audio through my remote speakers. No sound. iTunes will play music files on the remote speakers, just not movies. Could anyone help me? I'd like to show clips of the movie to my students tomorrow!!

that's expected behavior. you can currently only stream audio from music files via AirPlay.

Air Port Express to Play Movie Audio

I just got an Airport Express for Christmas. Very cool device to pay music on my home stereo. I also watch DVD movies on my I-Mac and would like to play the audio form the movie on my home stereo via my airport express.
Is this possible?

A quick review of this site will reveal thousands with similar situations as yours. But, you only cited 3 of the 4 required octets of any OS level, so it's rather impossible to know anything for sure based on your information. BB has released at least 3 more updates in the last few weeks, but the carriers remain in control of release to their customers, and some are slower than others to do so (but BB cannot control them). Further, there have been many reports of issues with the "official" methods of installing these updates.
If you wish to jump ahead, you can use an AutoLoader to cleanly reload your current OS, load the even more current version, or fall back to whatever version you desire. The choice is yours.

Video podcasts play as audio only.

Since the release of Podcasts, I have been using it to watch my regular assortment of video podcasts. On at least two occassions (so far) the app has decided to play only the audio from the podcast using the audio interface and ignore the video. Switching podcasts does not help. To top it off, even in audio mode, the audio controls do not seem to function properly. The only fix I have found is to exit back to the Home screen, terminate the background Podcasts process and relaunch.
If I look at the information for the podcast episodes they are properly identified as video podcasts and play properly once the app is relaunched.

Can not believe it won't play movie audio

Hello forumities,
I rented my first ever movie through itunes yesterday and I was looking forward very much to playing the soundtrack through my new speakers via airport instead of the weak speakers in my m'book.
So disappointed that it did not happen. Is it true? Can I only play music from itunes library not movies or tv? If that is the case I am amazed. Please say it ain't so. Show me the error of my ways. I would be ever so grateful.

Thanks Bob. I have tried the trial version of airfoil and it was okay except that there was a delay. So when I played youtube vid's for instance the mouth was about three seconds ahead of the song.
That is just alright for youtube but for movies I think not. I bought airport because it claimed to stream itunes, not just music, so to tell the truth I am a wee bit annoyed. Not that that is your probe' so thx again Bob. It is aways nice to get a response.

Just to clarify, my ipod is brand new, it makes a crackling sound but that is all, when I play music or apps it works! I have reset it 3 times and it hasn't worked yet!! I am very frustrated because it is brand new!! I can receive video emails from other friends and view them with sound, it seems that only my videos have no sound! Why is this??

IPod plays certain songs only from Mac

Hi everybody,
I've never went into problems with my 1st generation iPod but I'm in a little trouble now.
I've put some AAC made by iTunes from a cd of mine inside the iPod and they were copied correctly.
When it comes to play them from the iPod connected to the Mac, everything is ok; the only thing wrong is that if I try do the very same thing once sconnected, the player refuses to play the tracks.
Strangely enough, it happens only with this album, the others behave perfectly !!
What can I do ?

HT2499 dvd play's audio only video cannot be seen

Purchased a new macbook pro, attempted to play a dvd. DVD palayer launches and a checkerboard screen apears along with the dvd controler. I choose play and all that hapens is the audio portion of the dvd is played any suggestions?

What file format is the DVD in? You might want to download and install the Free player:

My old movies now only play the audio

My old movies that used to work just fine on my 60 GB Ipod are now only playing as audio files.
The problem started about a month ago, not sure why. Probably windows, lol. When i went to the video list all of a sudden EVERY song and video was being displayed as a video. However, the tracks that were truly videos were playing as audio only. So i went to video settings and made sure that it wasn't on tv out. The problem persists. So then i connected my ipod to my computer and under the ipod summary screen it says i have audio, photos, but no video. So i went to "get info" on the videos to see if they had changed into audio files but it still says under "summary" and then "kind" that it is a MPEG-4 video file. So then i tried playing it in itunes and IT WORKS FINE! I will mention again that all these videos were playing just fine before. What is going on!?!?

Go to edit-->preferences with the iPod showing up in iTunes and hit the iPod tab. Then hit the podcasts tab under the iPod. Make sure transfer all podcasts is bubbled. Now go to the videos tab and make sure transfer all videos is selected. Click okay.
See if they now appear

HT2729 My ipod 4th generation is no longer playing videos. It plays the sound only with message "TV connected- This video is playing on TV"?

My IPOD 4th generation has stopped playing videos. It will play the audio only and displays message "TV CONNECTED" "THIS VIDEO IS PLAYING ON THE TV". Don't know how to re-adjust video setting to what it was prior to this happening.

Do you have an Apple TV? An iPod can AirPlay to an Apple TV.
Can you provide a screen shot of what yo are seeing? Also what specific app is it?

How to control audio-only QuickTime movies

I would like to be able to use the QuickTime controller to play an audio only QuickTime movie. I've read in this forum that hovering the mouse over a QuickTime movie is supposed to bring up the controller, but it isn't working for me. I've imported the movies (I have three on one slide) by both Insert > Choose … as well as dragging from the Finder. Afterwards, I get the speaker icon. When I play the show, the speaker icons don't appear.
Having the ability to be able to repeatedly play a .aif, .wav., mp3 sound would be nice as well, even if it is just start from the beginning and play.
Additionally, I'd also like to be able to play a movie by clicking on a movie, but I haven't found a way to do that. Perhaps it is not possible.

60GB iPod and Movies

Will my 60GB,5th generation? iPod play movies?

FYI... my 5th gen, 60 Gig iPod was a mac formatted iPod. I was traveling when itunes 7 came out and since I was wanting to download a movie the day they were announced, I restored my Mac iPod using my Windows laptop. This erased all the contents of the iPod and restored it as a Windows formatted iPod (XPlay did not work with 7.0).
I have not had any problems, and since my home Mac reads windows drives w/o any patches, I have decided to leave the iPod in Windows format. Movies work great except I do not have the new search feature.
The search seems something that would be in the software, but somehow Apple has not provided it to us original 5th gen owners!
