IPod playlist missing

I have a new computer.  Just this week purchased a few tunes and discovered the rest of my playlist is missing.  I've looked in all the iTunes files and none of it is there.  So, I have a few just purchased but not downloaded, and I have the original list on my iPod.  How do I sync the two?

Ok, I found it!
When your iPod is plugged in, go to the TV Shows (or Movies) tab and notice at the top, it says, "<check box> Sync" and then there's a drop-down menu.
Does the drop-down menue say "all unwatched"?
If so, change it to just say "all".
If it says "unwatched", then it appears that any video watched to completion will erase on the next sync.

  • IPod playlist = no podcast content

    iTunes (11.0.3.42) on Windows XP
    iTouch 64 GB iOS 6.1.3
    These are recent updates.
playlists on the iPod no longer receive podcast content that is set up for them in iTunes.
What this means is, the podcasts are on the iPod and iTunes, the podcasts do get updated on the
iPod, but the iPod playlist does not show the  content that consists of podcasts, whereas the equivalent  iTunes
    playlist does show podcast content.
This makes playlists & my use of the iPod pretty useless.
I've reset & rebuilt the iPod device and this did not improve things -
in fact it made it worse, as it seems that some playlists still had
podcast content, but now none do.
playlists that consist only of podcast content aren't even made available
on the iPod; they have to have some non-podcast content before they're
even made visible.   And even then, no podcast content.
Can anything be done to fix this?

I fixed it.  How is one thing, but why is another.
The rebuilt iPod caused ITunes to complain about 2 items -
one was a podcast (one element of a large group) that for
some reason was no longer visible to ITunes - the file was
there, but iTunes decided it was missing.  I deleted the file
and had it re-fetch.  The other item was a video podcast
that was in a format iTunes said the device couldn't play.
    I deleted it.
After this, the playlists on the iPod sync complete.
    I'd call that a bug.
iTunes didnt complain about these items before the rebuild.

Your data is already lost. You must restore your phone in order to be able to use it. This is why Apple offers you two ways to back up, including iCloud, which backs up automatically over wireless every night if you're plugged in to power and the screen is locked. How much easier could it be? Yet you say you haven't backed up in months. If your phone was lost or stolen, or you dropped it in a puddle, you would be in the same boat. • Itunes playlist does not match with ipod playlist.

itunes library does not match with ipod playlist.
when I copy all my songs from itunes library to ipod playlist always a couple songs are missing. I have 5.000 songs in library but only 4700 on ipod.
    please help. thank you

I'm not certain I understand the problem: have you re-installed iTunes 6 and now are unable to purchase iTunes Store music?
I have an iPod Mini and have used it flawlessly with iTunes 7 on both a G5 iMac and a G4 Cube under 10.4.7, so "incompatibility" is not the issue here.
iTunes 6.0.5 indeed does continue to allow iTunes Store music purchases...if your problem persists, get back to us here with more info!

  • I downloaded an album on itunes that is showing up on my computer but not on my ipod playlist. What should I do?

I recently had to restore my ipod to a different computer after not using it for a long while.  I downloaded an album and I see it on my computer on my iTunes playlist but it is not on my ipod playlist.  What can I do?  I can see I purchased the album.

    - Delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - If you can't delete
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My itunes library and ipod playlist disappeared?

i'm not sure what happened, but i intentionally deleted a bunch of mp3 files from my library (about 75% of my music folder) after uploading them to my 30 gig new generation Ipod. I believe that after this action, my Itunes library disappeared - including my Ipod playlist (the playlist i defaulted my Ipod to sync with). Now, whenever i open up Itunes, there's no music in my library or anything. I still have my 10 gigs of music on my Ipod that i had uploaded prior to this, however, i want to add more songs onto my Ipod. The problem and question here is, i'm afraid that when i sync my Ipod with a new playlist, will all of the songs on my Ipod be erased?
i had the idea of downloading IpodRip to retrieve the songs from my Ipod to my computer, then just starting from scratch and adding all the songs at one time, however, IpodRip would only open with errors and not retrieve my songs.
i hope someone understands this situation - i have a difficult time explaining it in type without sounding confusing. i'm not very feature-savvy with Itunes or my Ipod.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My iPod playlists are deleted every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro.

Every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro, my iPod playlists are deleted.  I have all the sync features turned off on both the iPod and computer.  What is happening?  I hate having to remake my "Workout" playlist everytime I plug in!

Correct.  All sync features are turned off and if is 'manually manage' somewhere, I have checked the box to do so.  So basically everything is set for me to manage manually, yet my iPod playlists are still being deleted.

  • Ipod playlists and deletion from ipod list

My old computer died suddenly. Thankfully my itunes library was backed up but in syncing to a new computer my ipod playlists have not been preserved. I have reloaded my favourite songs manually and would like to reinstate play lists but can't seem to do that from the drop down list within my ipod. Has itunes changed the way lists are formed? Do I now have to make the list on my computer and sync that list to the ipod? And why can't I delete songs from the ipod while I am listening to them? I have to go to the screen that lists the songs I have manually added and remove them from that spot. Seriously inconvenient. And now itunes says a new version is available and that everything will be wiped again if I want to upgrade. What the??????

my itunes library was backed up
Sounds like  the itunes library content was backed up, but not the itunes library database. The database is what holds the playlists, play counts, ratings, etc.
The filename of the database is
    iTunes Library.itl
If you don't have a backup of that database file, and can't get if off the old hard computer's hard drive, you're essentially starting over with itunes.
Going forward, make regular backups of that file.
Another option is to buy 3rd-party ipod manager software that can get playlists off the ipod. Here is a page to start your research - it's 5 years old, but still a good starting place. Make sure whatever you buy supports your model ipod.

  • My iPod is missing and I need the serial number

My iPod has been missing and I can't get the serial number because 1. I've never synced it into iTunes since my computer came after my iPod went missing 2. I had the iPod for 8 months so I don't have the box 3. The receipt doesn't say 4. Somehow, I can't contact Apple 5. It's not in my iTune history. So is there another way I can find the serial number?

Launch iTunes, go to the Preferences, select Devices, and hover your cursor over the backup file for the iPod. That should show you the serial number.
Hope the police can find your iPod, though as I'm sure you know, the chances are slim. Good luck.
    Regards.

  • Playlists missing on new iMac 24"

Playlists missing on new iMac 24". I have a backup of everything on my MacBook Pro - it has the correct playlists and all the files in it. What do I have to copy to get them on the new computer? Too many important playlists to redo if I don't have to.
    Thanks!

See my user tips Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy and Make a split library portable. The first shows how I would normally recommend preparing to move your library from one computer to another. Back it up to an external drive, then restore to the new computer. The other goes into some detail regarding the structure of the library. Essentially if you've copied over the media already you simply need to copy the main iTunes Library.itl file and a some supporting files and the artwork cache.
I don't use iTunes Match so I am not familiar with it. I thought it included playlists, but perhaps that feature doesn't work properly when the library is bigger than the 25,000 tracks allowed. Either way backup and restore via an external drive is still the best way to move a library from one machine to another.

  • Organized iPod playlists into folders in iTunes, but not showing up when iPod is disconnected. Please help!

I organized my iPod touch playlists into folders in iTunes on my computer (while my iPod was connected to my computer) but when I disconnect and go to use the iPod separately, the playlists that I organized do not show up in the folders they were put into. They're still all jumbled up, rather than in the playlist folders. The folders show up on my iPod, but some are empty and some have a few but not all of the correct playlists in them. How can I fix this?

    Freespirit777 wrote:
PLease note that you cannot organise ipod playlists or folders while it is NOT connected to iTunes, as you simply can't see them.
    Yes you can.
If I'm not mistaken, this thread was started prior to the release of iTunes 11. iTunes 11 does "hide" Playlists and Playlist Folders, until you turn the Sidebar back on, using CTRL+S. Also, the top menu bar is useful, and that can be turned on with CTRL+B. However, that aside, nothing has changed regarding Playlists, You can (and have always been able to) create, alter and manage Playlists without having an iPod connected to iTunes. You then allow a Sync to synchronise those Playlists to the iPod.
    So use CTRL+B and CTRL+S and make sure you have the top menu and the sidebar showing, like so;
Notice the Playlist Folder, that I've named "Test Folder". Inside it is a Smart Playlist ("Rating 1 star") and two regular Playlists ("Dummy list, do not use" & "Test list"). To create new ones of any of these items, click on the + symbol at the bottom of the iTunes Window (I've ringed it). You then see this:
So that sorts out creating and managing them in your iTunes Library.
    Freespirit777 wrote:
It looks like ipod doesn't have a folder function which is unhelpful and user unfriendly.
That's not correct. At least, not as far as the Playlist Folders we have been discussing.
    Once the Playlists are Synced to the iPod, looking in the Playlists section on my iPod Touch, shows this;
Notice the "Playlist Folder" (named Test Folder) on the list. Delving into that shows the three Playlists that we saw in iTunes. Notice the name of the Playlist Folder at the top, and the three Playlists in it, listed below (in alphabetical order):
One thing that may be of further use to you; while arranging my iPod to get the screenshots, I found that it took two attempts to get the Playlists fully Synced with my iPod (I use "Sync selected playlists" with it). So if your first Sync doesn't put everything onto your iPod, try a second Sync.

  • How do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.
