IPod Playlists are shuffled but aren't shuffling....

My playlists show as shuffled on iTunes. However, they don't shuffle on my iPod. I recently cut my iTunes over to my iMac from Windows XP. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am also having the same problem. If I hook my IPOD up to my car stereo, tell it to shuffle, then disconnect, all my playlists are shuffled. If I try this with ITunes, the playlists appear shuffled on the IPOD menu, but when I start playing one, the songs start to play in order. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

  • My iPod playlists are deleted every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro.

Every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro, my iPod playlists are deleted.  I have all the sync features turned off on both the iPod and computer.  What is happening?  I hate having to remake my "Workout" playlist everytime I plug in!

Correct.  All sync features are turned off and if is 'manually manage' somewhere, I have checked the box to do so.  So basically everything is set for me to manage manually, yet my iPod playlists are still being deleted.

  • All playlist are available but are emty on my iPad2 with iTunes Match

I use iTunes Match. Activation on my Mac OK. Alle playlists and related songs are available and correct on my AppleTV2. On my iPad2 the playlists are available but empty. Whats happen ? Anyone has a good advise ?

    Hey applewarm,
Is it possible that you have downloaded these songs onto your iPhone by playing them from iTunes Match? According to this article, the songs are downloaded automatically when you play them, and it also gives instructions on deleting the songs from your phone, if you desire to do that:
    iTunes Match - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph6e2dfb83
Songs are downloaded to iPhone when you play them. You can also download songs and albums manually—while browsing, tap .
Note: When iTunes Match is on, downloaded music is automatically removed from iPhone as space is needed, starting with the oldest and least-played songs. An iCloud icon () appears next to removed songs and albums, showing that the songs and albums are still available through iCloud but not stored locally on iPhone.
Remove a song that’s been downloaded. Swipe left, then tap Delete.

  • HELP! iPod playlists are always getting f...d up! HELP!

This is a strange problem, infinite thanks to the person who can help me!
Once I updated my iTunes 5 to iTunes 6, on a different computer I have; shortly after that, the problem started:
I can arrange the main-folder AND/OR playlists on my iPod nano HOW I want, every time I disconnect and reconnect the iPod to my computer it's back to a totally confused state. WHY???
The width AND the chosen columns are always changed again, no matter what I do. I even resetted the iPod several times plus I put it back to its "original state" on iTunes 7 that I now have on my PC. Still the same problem. I think it has something to do with the iPod, not iTunes.
PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE as this is a really annoying problem.

    Additional information:
In the beginning, with iTunes 6, the problem "only occured" when I created playlists on my iPod. When I had no playlists at all on it, nothing happened. But even when I only put one song in my "On The Go"-playlist, the problem would appear as soon as I connected the iPod to the computer.
NOW with iTunes 7 ans much more options available for the connected iPod, the problem also occures when NO playlists are created on the iPod. :'-(
Funnily, now only the main folder seems to be cursed with this problem. The playlists I created on the iPod with iTunes stay how I wanted them. WEIRD!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!!

  • Music plays, playlists are there but the song list is empty!?

The strangest things has happened with iTunes 7.3.2 today: all the playlists are there, I can even play the music, but the song list window is totaly empty! How has this happened and what can I do to restore the list?
I've checked the .xml library file and everything seems to be all right in there. I've even tried recreating it but that didn't help.
The last thing I remember doing with iTunes was creating a playlist and burning it as an audio CD.
When I try any kind of operation on the playlists, the iTunes crashes down. When I start it, it normally loads the library as if everything is fine.
When switching between the playlists, I can play each individual playlist but I can't see any content. The song list window is just blank.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? What can be done apart from recreating the whole library from the scratch? There is over 65 GB of music in the library on the external drive.

Problem solved. First I've tried importing from the .xml library file but that didn't help. As a last resort I've re-installed iTunes completely and everything is back to normal now.

  • I am trying to play my ipod shuffle 1st gen in itunes but it will not play. My windows 7 computer recognizes the ipod and I can easily select the songs on my ipod playlist in itunes but cannot play them. Any solutions to the problem?

I get the feeling some has asked a question "like" this but not exactly that question which makes it really hard for find answers fast to the above question. Therefore, I decided to ask it anyway. Hopefully someone has a good solution that will work.
    Background on the question:
    - I had to erase and reupload song on my ipod 1st gen to my new computer. Apparently the ipod could not be read by the iTunes in my new computer because the playlist cannot be opened in more than one iTunes or in another computer or something like that (this makes no sense). All this was to try and charge my ipod that does not seem to want to charge. It connects perfectly to the computer and I can see the initial blinking yellow lights on the back and front, but won't charge. I am currently working on this problem from other community discussion topics.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Trying to synch my previously purchased apps to replacement ipod they are there but  greyed out wont sycnc

Got a replacement Ipod registered it. During synch all my previously purchased tunes have loaded but not the apps. Set up the apps to synch and download, everything is greyed out. Wont synch, if I do repurchase everything will it be free?It asks if you want to buy, so went no further.
My daughter wants everything restored as it was esp stuff like Bakery Store and some games where she has acrued scores...

    - Are both the iPod and computer signd into the account that purchased the apps>
    - Are Restrictions set that prevent installing apps?  Go to Settings>General>Restrictions to check.

  • Playlists are here but no ratings, play counts.... How can I get them back?

Due to my computer crashing, I now have all my music on an external hard drive.
I have so far managed to get hold of all my music and my playlists.
The issue I have now is that I do not have my ratings and play counts.
In my xml file, I can see Itunes thinks the location of the files is in localhost/C:/ whereas the music is now in my /E:/ drive.
I have tried doing a replace all however it keeps crashing, I have over 40gb of music and changing each song location manually is very time consuming.
I cannot change the letter of the drive as my principal system is already called /C:/ and won't let me change it.
Is there anyway I can get the ratings and play counts back?
    Thanks

  • 3 Different Batteries, they say they are charging but aren't taking a charge

I searched around on this one and it seems to be a common problem but I can't seem to find a concrete answer as to what the problem is. I have a SPrint 700wx and have been having charging issues. When I plug my phone into the AC charger, the red led at the top of the phone lights up and the battery icon on the screen shows the little lightning bolt signifying that it is being charged, yet the battery remains at 0% charge, even after being charged for hours. Sometimes, the battery will suddenly start charging for real and take a charge and work fine. Yet, every few days this happens again. I have 3 different batteries and they all do this. On all of the threads and posts I have seen about this, someone always replies that its just a bad battery, but my batteries are all of different ages and this started happening with all three batteries at the same time, so I highly doubt that all three batteries suddenly went bad at the same time, besides the fact that the problem happens intermittently. It must be something with the charger or the software. I've read where people recommend a "soft reset" as well, but this didn't seem to help. Any help is much appreciated, I'm at the point where I'll just have to get a different phone because I can't go without a functioning phone!
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Sprint)

Have you tried a different AC charger? Try a different charger. If the same issue occurs, then it may be the charging circuit in the Treo itself and will need to be repaired.
You can try a hard reset to try and resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device. Make sure you sync to the PC to backup your data.

  • I've upgraded my 4th gen ipod to ios6.  I manually manage videos and music.  My video playlists(which I can access via the music icon) are there but my videos aren't.  I can see the videos when tapping the videos icon so I know they are there. Any ideas?

I've upgraded my 4th gen ipod to ios6.  I manually manage videos and music as it is easier to access my videos through playlists which I access through the music icon.  Since upgrading to ios6 the playlists are there but when I go into them the individual videos aren't visible.  I know they are there because I can access them through the videos icon.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Does it still turn on to the Apple logo?
If it does, turn it on and hold it up to your ear. If it's making a clicking sound, try hitting it easy a few times on the side. The idea is the hdd is "stuck" and hitting it loosens it. Just don't do it too hard to break it.

  • Computer hit by lightning...new computer /no IPOD playlist

My computer was hit by lightning. Needless to say, it was trashed and we bought a new one. All of my son's ipod playlists are gone. I've downloaded the software onto this computer. Can I transfer from the ipod to our new computer? How do I do that if yes? We have also upgraded to a Dell 5100 from a 4600. I have been searching the discussions and have copied many instructions...but don't know if I am doing it right. I also don't want to lose what he has on his ipod already. HELP!! and thanks!

Thank you. I tried what you posted however when I get to the part.."Ipod icon on my computer"...there is no icon. Ut-oh! What does that mean? I re-installed the software and the ipod is plugged in. Confusing....I even downloaded iPod agent....more confused. Thanks.

  • My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • I put iPod on "songs, shuffle" but the shuffle isn't random!  Same artist repeats often, same songs repeat before other songs are played.  With over 2000 songs on the iPod, I shouldn't be getting repeats very often.  Anybody else?

Shuffle is not perfect. What you are experiencing is normal.

  • Ipod classic only shuffling some songs in playlist

i have 655 songs in a playlist but ipod only shuffles 165 of the songs. i've set ipod to shuffle under settings and then once the playlist is highlighted i hit play. only 165 songs are listed and only 165 will shuffle. if i turn off the shuffle feature ipod will play all 655 songs by album, but i'd like the ipod to skip around and not play the albums sequentially. any ideas?

Check the songs in your library. Under *File/Get Info/Options* is a tick-box called *Skip when shuffling.* Is there a tick in the box? If so, turn it off.
Check this for one song. If that is the problem, you can then highlight all the songs in the playlist and go to the *File/Get Info/Options* (iTunes will ask if you wish to edit multiple entries - yes, you do!). When editing multiple items, for some reason the *Skip when shuffling* tick-box will also have a drop-down menu box. Even if it says No, (which it did when I tested this) select Yes, _then change it back_ to No and click OK.
Sync your iPod and try the playlist again. When you play the first song in the playlist (on shuffle) does the display now say 1 of 655? It should.
