IPod playlists HELP!

I just purchased my new 5th gen iPod and noticed while importing songs to the player that the same artist kept showing up multiple times for each song. What I would like is to have the artist listed once with all the music is internal. Similar to if you made a folder for "Justin Timberlake" for example, and you clicked his name to see the rest of his music. How do you do this?!! THANKS!

I dont understand what your talking about...try re wording it so its easier to read

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.
To make this your syncing computer:

wow ... I get a headache just trying to read what you just said. I went and read how to migrate my library and found that you can only migrate purchased media.
No, you can easily migrate your entire library from one working compter to another.
If you fail to backup or migrate your library and find yourself with nothing but a new empty computer and a device full of content iTunes is designed to only recover the iTunes purchased content, however third party tools can help recover everything if needed.

  • Organized iPod playlists into folders in iTunes, but not showing up when iPod is disconnected. Please help!

I organized my iPod touch playlists into folders in iTunes on my computer (while my iPod was connected to my computer) but when I disconnect and go to use the iPod separately, the playlists that I organized do not show up in the folders they were put into. They're still all jumbled up, rather than in the playlist folders. The folders show up on my iPod, but some are empty and some have a few but not all of the correct playlists in them. How can I fix this?

    Freespirit777 wrote:
PLease note that you cannot organise ipod playlists or folders while it is NOT connected to iTunes, as you simply can't see them.
    Yes you can.
If I'm not mistaken, this thread was started prior to the release of iTunes 11. iTunes 11 does "hide" Playlists and Playlist Folders, until you turn the Sidebar back on, using CTRL+S. Also, the top menu bar is useful, and that can be turned on with CTRL+B. However, that aside, nothing has changed regarding Playlists, You can (and have always been able to) create, alter and manage Playlists without having an iPod connected to iTunes. You then allow a Sync to synchronise those Playlists to the iPod.
    So use CTRL+B and CTRL+S and make sure you have the top menu and the sidebar showing, like so;
Notice the Playlist Folder, that I've named "Test Folder". Inside it is a Smart Playlist ("Rating 1 star") and two regular Playlists ("Dummy list, do not use" & "Test list"). To create new ones of any of these items, click on the + symbol at the bottom of the iTunes Window (I've ringed it). You then see this:
So that sorts out creating and managing them in your iTunes Library.

It looks like ipod doesn't have a folder function which is unhelpful and user unfriendly.
That's not correct. At least, not as far as the Playlist Folders we have been discussing.
    Once the Playlists are Synced to the iPod, looking in the Playlists section on my iPod Touch, shows this;
Notice the "Playlist Folder" (named Test Folder) on the list. Delving into that shows the three Playlists that we saw in iTunes. Notice the name of the Playlist Folder at the top, and the three Playlists in it, listed below (in alphabetical order):
One thing that may be of further use to you; while arranging my iPod to get the screenshots, I found that it took two attempts to get the Playlists fully Synced with my iPod (I use "Sync selected playlists" with it). So if your first Sync doesn't put everything onto your iPod, try a second Sync.

  • One song is not syncing with ipod touch - help!

it has synced the other songs I downloaded, but this one will not sync even though it is checked to sync, and appears in the playlist in iTunes. I've reset the iPod to no avail... it's an ipod touch 2nd gen.  I've also removed and re-synced the entire playlist and it simply will not put this one track on the iPod.  HELP!

I am having the same problem as well.  One song, purchased from iTunes, will not sync to my iPod touch.  It was on it last week, now it is not there.  When I plug the iPod into my PC, the song is in my library and it shows it in the iPod playlist when connected to iTunes...but it is no where to be found on the iPod.  I have tried to delete it from the playlist, and put it back in the playlist and re-sync, but it still is not there.  It plays on my PC in iTunes.  Any ideas out there for this one song issue?  Thanks all.

  • How do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.

  • Can't import iPod playlists into iPhone!

I recently upgraded to an iPhone gs and am trying to import an iPod playlist created in an earlier version of iTunes. However the new version of iTunes will not recognize the playlist. Help please!

You probably need to convert them to MP4 files. You can use MPEG streamclip to do that.

  • Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems

Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
I am having problems with the voice control system and my video ipod (5th gen) in a new Ford Focus Coupè-Convertible which also has Bluetooth phone conectivity ( works great with my iPhone 3G) as well as USB & Voice Control
This is all done through a Sony audio unit (model Sony 6CD DAB) which has a Six disc CD changer built in, as well as the usual FM & AM Radio bands as well as DAB Radio.
My problem relates to the voice control of my ipod and playlists.
Now some commands work just great For example if I say the following sequence ( which the unit repeats back to me at each stage) it works great:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Play"
All works well as it starts playing whatever playlist the iPod was in prior to connection to the unit, or if no playlist had been selected it just plays the whole contents of the iPod. - It also works fine with the commands "Shuffle" or "Repeat".
But according to the user manual I am supposed to be able to play or select a specific playlist by voice command using the following syntax as quoted from the manual:
'...create playlists named with the structure "Ford<*>" where <*> is a number 1-10. For example "Ford7" without any spaces between "Ford" and the number.
So I made several playlist called
    Ford1
    Ford2
    Ford3
and so on up to Ford10.
Now according to the voice commands list I should say the following phrases which like before, are repeated back to me by the system:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Playlist"
    Then the unit responds with
    "Playlist Number Please"
Then according to the manual I should say the following:
    But when I say either
    'Ford1'
    Or
    '1'
Or any right up to 'Ford10' / '10'
It responds bystating that playlist number (X) not available.
I have also tried with the quotation marks ("") around the name eg "Ford1", but that has not worked either.
So I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and knew a solution, or could tell me where I am going wrong.
Although my car is a UK model, I believe that this voice control system is available with Sony units in American cars as well.
Hope you can help as this is driving me nuts!
    Thanks

    Hi Drusus.
I also have a European Ford (Focus ST - 2009) with the same problem.
Have you found any solution to the problem, or know if its possible to contact Ford...?
    Cheers.
    \Christian.

  • Computer hit by lightning...new computer /no IPOD playlist

My computer was hit by lightning. Needless to say, it was trashed and we bought a new one. All of my son's ipod playlists are gone. I've downloaded the software onto this computer. Can I transfer from the ipod to our new computer? How do I do that if yes? We have also upgraded to a Dell 5100 from a 4600. I have been searching the discussions and have copied many instructions...but don't know if I am doing it right. I also don't want to lose what he has on his ipod already. HELP!! and thanks!

Thank you. I tried what you posted however when I get to the part.."Ipod icon on my computer"...there is no icon. Ut-oh! What does that mean? I re-installed the software and the ipod is plugged in. Confusing....I even downloaded iPod agent....more confused. Thanks.

  • You have 2 ipods, please help

you have 2 ipods, please help
Hi, I have just bought another ipod, I have now a 60GB video ipod and a new 8GB ipod. Does it pose any problem when synchronising ? Can they have different names ? Thks

You can name your iPod whatever you like. If you are connecting a second iPod for your own use, just connect it to your computer and it will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually.
When using a small capacity iPod like the Nano with a large library, you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - All songs and Playlists in iTunes 7). This would allow you to create a playlist specifically for your Nano and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod Nano (around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB). You can read more about playlists at these links:

I'm not certain I understand the problem: have you re-installed iTunes 6 and now are unable to purchase iTunes Store music?
I have an iPod Mini and have used it flawlessly with iTunes 7 on both a G5 iMac and a G4 Cube under 10.4.7, so "incompatibility" is not the issue here.
iTunes 6.0.5 indeed does continue to allow iTunes Store music purchases...if your problem persists, get back to us here with more info!

I want to be able to drag songs from my iPod playlists into the library stored in my computer

Try to create a new playlist (not smart playlist), open iTunes ->Files-> New playlist. Then drag the songs from the library to the new playlist

    - Delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - If you can't delete
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
