IPod Playlists in itunes 5.0

ITunes 5.01 / iPod Clickwheel 20GB / Mac os 10.3.9
I have lost my playlists in iTunes but still have them on my iPod, how can I copy just the playlists from the iPod back to iTunes.
I have all the songs on the iPod and the Mac, so it's just the lists that I want.

When I connect my phone, it doesn’t show up in the source list in iTunes. What should I do?
First check that you meet the minimum system requirements mentioned above. Also, be sure that you’ve either installed iTunes from the CD that came with your phone or installed it from the iTunes download web page. Visit www.itunes.com/download to download the latest version of iTunes. Also, be sure that your phone is in “Memory Card” mode. To do this on your phone, go to Settings > Connection > USB Settings. Be sure the Default Connection has “Memory Card” selected. If you are still having difficulty, choose iTunes Music Store Service & Support from the Help menu in iTunes. For hardware issues with your phone, visit: http://www.hellomoto.com/ROKR or contact your cellular phone provider.

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.

  • Copy iPod Playlists to iTunes?

I have a 30GB iPod w/video and a Windows XP computer that just had its motherboard replaced. Now that I'e reinstalled all my apps, including iTunes, my old Playlists are gone. I still have them on my iPod, and the MP3s are all on my external hard drive (thank god), so how do I restore my playlists in iTunes?
    Thanks!
    Kim

There are several third party utilites to do this task... I use PodUtil http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php.
It will take a back up of your ipod and update your itunes inc playlists, it copies the videos too but does not copy the contacts/calender/notes folders... It available as a free down load inc. nag screens or £10 without. Works well for me and has got me out of a couple of stickie moments!

  • Can't see my ipod playlists in iTunes

I created a folder in itunes in order to organize my playlists. As soon as I did that the playlists on my ipod nano disappeared from itunes. I deleted the folder I created (in itunes, that is), together with its playlists and the problem still persists. I just added a new playlist to the ipod and i can't see that either in itunes. When the ipod is disconnected from ipod, I can see the playlists on the ipod but i can't see them in itunes, period. When I add songs to the ipod they just go to the songlist, not to any specific playlist because I can't see any anyways. Help.

The problem is not about updating. When you connect your ipod to itunes, you are supposed to see the playlists that are on your ipod on the computer. In my case, I do not see the playlists that should be on the ipod. When you add a playlist to the ipod you are supposed to see those playlists in itunes. While I do see them on the ipod when I disconnect it from itunes, I do not see them when the ipod is connected to itunes. It is making the process of organizing my music impossible. So the problem is not with automatic or manual updating. The problem is with seeing the playlists in itunes.

  • TS1717 itunes continually crashes when I try to add a song to ipod playlist from itunes library.

Since I've updated to itunes 10 recently, itunes crashes everytime I try to add a song from my library into an ipod playlist. This has never happened before and seems to be related to the recent update. Please advise.

Start by updating iTunes, you can download it from here -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If that doesn't do it, try the suggestions in this Apple doc -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

  • Deleted iPod Playlist but iTunes shows iPod with same capacity as before!

    Hi!
Can you help out? I wanted to free up some space on my iPod, so I deleted one of my Playlists through iTunes, however, although the Playlist has successfully been erased, shown capacity has not! The playlist was ~2.5GB, but my iPod's capacity meter has not changed at all!!
What's up?! I would love the extra capacity please (my iPod nano 2G is the 8GB version)!!
Thanks & looking forward to your reply.
    Stefan

Indeed you deleted the playlist but not the songs... you can check on the "Music" tab that all the songs remain in your ipod... if you want to delete songs you have to do it from this "Music" tab... deleting the playlist doesn't delete the songs inside

  • Put ipod playlists onto itunes

I've recently switched from a desktop to a laptop.  I was able to transfer all of my purchased music to my iTunes account, but I also really want my playlists copies from my iPod to my iTunes account on my laptop.  Is that possible, and if so, how?
Also, I have a new iPhone as well.  Will I be able to transfer my music and podcasts from iTunes from my new iPhone?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

You'll need to the assistance of third party software to extract the playlists from your iPod before you can import them back into iTunes. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Will I be able to transfer my music and podcasts from iTunes from my new iPhone?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or PC.

  • I can't sync my iPod playlists to iTunes?

I have a playlist on my iPod with about 400 songs in it and every time I sync with iTunes I lose it. I really don't like re-making the playlist and I want to sync more songs to my iPod.
I've heard that with iTunes you should be able to pull down playlists under the device tab, and I've done that but it doesn't even show the current playlists on my iPod. It doesn't show playlists I made after my last sync, and it shows playlists that don't even exist on my iPod anymore.
Is there another way I can get the playlist on iTunes?

  • I am trying to play my ipod shuffle 1st gen in itunes but it will not play. My windows 7 computer recognizes the ipod and I can easily select the songs on my ipod playlist in itunes but cannot play them. Any solutions to the problem?

I get the feeling some has asked a question "like" this but not exactly that question which makes it really hard for find answers fast to the above question. Therefore, I decided to ask it anyway. Hopefully someone has a good solution that will work.
    Background on the question:
    - I had to erase and reupload song on my ipod 1st gen to my new computer. Apparently the ipod could not be read by the iTunes in my new computer because the playlist cannot be opened in more than one iTunes or in another computer or something like that (this makes no sense). All this was to try and charge my ipod that does not seem to want to charge. It connects perfectly to the computer and I can see the initial blinking yellow lights on the back and front, but won't charge. I am currently working on this problem from other community discussion topics.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Transfer iPod playlists to iTunes

I recently re-formatted the hard-drive on my mac. I want to take the playlists that are stored in my G4 iPod (40-gig) and import them into iTunes. I really don't want to have to create all the playlists all over again, as I have over 200.
I don't want to transfer music from iPod to iMac, only the playlists. Is this possible?

PodWorks works great for this! It took me a minute to figure out how to transfer playlists (option-apple-T), and I can only copy one playlist at a time, but it works perfectly. Thanks!

  • Ipod playlists to itunes library

I just received a new computer with Windows XP, and downloaded the new version of ITunes. I was able to import my library (had it backed-up on an external hard drive), but how do I get my playlists to show up on there? They are still on Ipod Nano (as I haven't plugged in back in yet to sync). I was afraid it would erase my playlists.
So how do I get my playlists back in my ITunes Library?

  • Ipod playlists to itunes

my itunes recently deleted its library. i finally re-uploaded all of my music, but my playlists are gone.
is there any way to upload my playlists which are still on my ipod onto itunes? or do i have to do this manually?
i'm using a mac and the most recent version of itunes.
also, if you know how to keep itunes from deleting the library, that would be helpful too. is it just the recent version that has this issue, or is it a deeper problem?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I believe these three will all clone playlists and other metadata such as play counts, ratings etc. from an iPod, you could begin your research here:
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

  • Where is the iPod playlist in iTunes?

    Hello dear members,
I have a problem with my iTunes, could someone kindly help me please? My iPod is old. It's the 20GB black and white one from a long time ago. Recently, I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista on it, and I got iTunes version 7. It detects my iPod, and I can put songs on it, but I just don't know where the playlist is! The library playlist is there, but where is the iPod one when I plug it in? It used to show up when I had my old laptop with an old version of iTunes. When I click my ipod, it only has four options: Summary, Music, Podcasts, Contacts. No playlist. Please help!
    Thank you

You can only automatically sync playlists using Windows Media Player 0 as far as I know. There's lots of other software out there that can use the Media Transfer Protocol of the Vision:M, but I'm not sure what they can do.
Creative's software is desperately lacking in the playlist sync area, so you're not being a BDU
