IPod playlists out of order

In iTunes, all the songs on a CD are still in the correct order and list the track numbers.
But on my iPod, some albums are out of order. I checked and the iPod is not on shuffle in any way. I just browse to the artist and album, but the songs aren't even listed in the correct order.
I restored the iPod but that did not fix the problem.
What can I do to fix this problem?
Dell Inspiron 600m   Windows XP Pro

well I figured out what the problem was. some tracks of the album had "Album Artist" or "Composer" listed, and the iPod was sorting those first. Pretty lame, but I'm glad I figured it out.

  • Ipod touch playlists out of order

I have many playlists, several of which are smart playlists for specific albums.  The tracks used to play in order of the album, but now cannot get them to stay in order.  When I synch, I see the songs go back to their original order for a split second, but when syncing is done, they go out of order again.  I've tried deleting the playlist, syncing, loading it again, syncing again...no dice.  And, no, the shuffle is not turned on.  My touch has worked perfectly for several years now, and just started this.  How do I fix this?  Was there a bug in the last updates??  All the forums I see are years old.  This is driving me nuts, please help.

Have you shuffled the playlist? My syncs correctly.

  • All playlists out of order

I have a problem with most of my playlists being out of order. I have my music on an external hard drive and I drag them from here directly onto my iPOD via iTUNEs. In iTUNES they appear in order - if I connect my iPOD to my powerbook and play via my computer everything is fine. However, as soon as I disconnet my iPOD and listen through my headphones everything is out of order.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Michael.

Please clarify, is the problem with the order of the songs within the playlists, or is the problem with the order of the +playlist names+ ?
If the order of songs in the playlists is the problem, sort them how you like in iTunes, then right-click (Windows) on the playlist name and select "Copy to play order" to make the song order permanent. You'll then need to re-sync your iPod to get the updated track order. If you manually manage your iPod, do the above directly on the playlist on your iPod while connected to iTunes.
If the order of +playlist names+ is the problem, that seems to be a bug with the new models that has not been fixed yet. The order seems to default to the order in which the playlists were created, not alphabetic as you'd expect.

  • Why are my Smart playlists out of order in iOS 5?

Since upgrading to iOS 5 on an iPad and iPhone 4 (Verizon), many (not all) of my smart playlists made in iTunes are out of order in both my iPad and iPhone (meaning the songs within the lists are our of order not the lists themselves).  Somtimes the playlists vary even between my iPad and iPhone, not just with iTunes.
I tried a couple of workarounds I found on the web:
    1) I've unchecked Live Updating on my affected Smart playlists, but it only seemed to work on some of them.
    2) Resorting the Smart playlists in iTunes by a different order, like Album, Name, or Artists seemed to work for others.
Still, some of the smart playlists on my iPad and iPhone have resisted even these solutions and stubornly will not sort to the order I have them in iTunes.
My iPad has now more smart playlists synced correctly than my iPhone, yet, i have the same sync settings for both of them.  I've been trying to find the rhyme or reason behind the mangled sort order but haven't a clue.  Anyone else experiencing such strange behavior with smart playlists since upgrading to iOS 5? Is this a bug or just some setting I am missing?

Created a similar post about 1 month ago - with no response...its driving me crazy too! Would love a fix!

  • Why Are Most Of My PlayLists Out Of Order?

Shuffle is off on all of them and I only have the little arrow to the far left highlighted. All but 3 of them are completely out of order and some of them have over 1200 songs so I'm not inclined to manually put them back in order. How can I fix this? What's causing it?

You could still go back and see what's in the folder "Previous Itunes Libraries". iTunes puts a copy there every time its version gets updated, and it has a date stamp in the title.   Like itunes Library 2010-07-29 would be from last July 29th.
You can get to it by closing itunes, then press the option key to start it again. You'll get asked to choose a library and you can go through them and see if one of them has the right order.

  • Ipod playlists in wrong order, in itunes they show correct (by rating), copy to play order doesnt work

Trying to set the ipod correctly since new updates and the song order is wrong, in itunes is correct as i intended it by rating, but on the ipod shows wrong, tried deleting playlist, full restore, copy to play order and manual upload, all to no avail. im loosing the will to live frankly.

only in the play lists in the ipod, no criteria seem to work. when i hit artist or songs it appears as it always did alphabetically, do u not see them likewise?

  • IPod Playlist in Reverse Order

I've seen quite a few people around the web having this issue. On my 3G iPod I would simply resync with iTunes, and it would correct this issue. I have a "Recently Added" playlist in iTunes, and now when I scroll to that Playlist on my iPod Classic, it shows my oldest "recently added" songs first. Not very fun when you want to have your iPod play your latest songs first.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue? I have consistently resynched my iPod in hopes that it would correct the Playlist order, but to no avail.
    Thanks!

    Hello Daryl,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Try this:
Set your iPod up to manually manage its contents. Next, locate the playlist you wish to sync to your iPod. Right->click on it and choose "Copy to play order" then drag it to your Shuffle in order to sync it over.
A bit of a workaround, but at least it might get the job done.

  • Smart Playlist is out of order when put on iPod

Hi, I'd like help getting my smart playlist in order. The criteria for the playlist is to be above 3 star rating, but I can't seem to tell what order the playlist is in; sometimes it seems like it's artist name, but then it sort of randomly changes. It looks normal in iTunes but when I'm using the iPod by itself the order is messed up. I don't use the sync function and don't want to. There was a way to get it in order on my old iPod, but I can't seem to remember how becuase it was stolen and I didn't have one for a while... thanks for the help.

I know it can be done, someone please help...

Have you tried creating a playlist for your album, then
    select the playlist in iTunes.
    right-click the playlist name -> select +copy to play order+. -> sync.

  • Audiobooks out of order on iPod

I want to play audiobooks in a specific order. I've set the sort by field and they are correct in iTunes but out of order when downloaded to the iPod. I might mention they were were in the desired order until I recently updated the software and replaced one of the books.

This is what I did to fix the same thing with the order of podcasts...
I Can’t take credit for this, someone (riffraff)posted it long ago, but I’ve had to use it each time iTunes updates.
    1. This will erase your play lists and music list. May want to have them saved somewhere to import from later
    2. Close iTunes
    3. I went to music folder then to iTunes and under this directory
    4. I deleted iTunes Library files, library, extras, and genius
(Actually I just moved them to a new folder on the desktop if things go wrong)
    5. started iTunes.
    6. Got shaken when no songs in the music list
    7. select add folder to library
    8. select your music folder-probably iTunes Music folder
    9. let run
    10. I plugged in my shuffle, copied 5 podcasts to a playlist. Arrange in the order you want. Sync to the iPod. Detach and check. It worked for me.

  • Out of Order TV Shows in iPod Classic

Here's an interesting problem that's really more of an annoyance than a problem that I foolishly posted in the iTunes section and not in this one.
For some reason on my 80gig iPod when I go into the tv shows I have such as Jericho it'll list it as normal, meaning that it starts with the Pilot and then lists each subsequent episode in the order that they aired on tv.
Then I'll go into another tv show and when I come back to the Jericho playlist they're in reverse order meaning that the Season finale is the first one and the pilot is the last one on the list.
My question is is this a commonn occourance and what can I do to correct it? I've tried rebooting my iPod but the problem still happens. I've also tried deleting and re-adding my tv shows to no avail. Like I said this is really more of an annoyance than a problem but any suggestions on how to correct this is much welcome.

I have the same problem with Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica. It lists the episodes from newest to oldest except for the first 4 episodes of the season which are all out of order. It even lists the dates they were listed as correct but it won't put them in the correct order. I sent an email to apple about it and they said I may need to contact technical support and pay for help. I figured I'd just ignore it since Battlestar Galactica won't be on iTunes next season since it's an NBC/Universal show and NBC is pulling the content. Which ***** because I have a credit of 8 tv show episodes and I was saving them for Season 4 of Galactica.

  • Songs on album are out of order on iPod

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my 4th generation iPod to a 30GB video iPod. With some albums, the songs will be out of order on the iPod (i.e. songs 1, 6, and 8 will come before the rest). The only thing I've been able to figure out thats different is the file type (AAF vs. MP3, for example). Is there any way to have the iPod organize the songs in order of track number instead of file type?

If they will not load in the correct order under all songs, one work around is to create a playlist and you can put them in any order you want.

  • How can I get the songs in my iPod Nano to sort in numerical order?....they show up tht way on iTunes, but on the Nano, they're out of order.

they show up that way on iTunes when connected to the Nano, (in numerical order) but on the Nano, they're out of order.  The shake to shuttle is off.

I dragged and dropped it from my desktop to my Nano (through iTunes) and it all loaded in order...if I take it from iTunes, it syncs everything, not just one playlist....even though I choose only one playlist...
??? So you are manually managing your iPod's contents. i.e you drag and drop content onto your Nano from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.
What did you drag and drop?

  • Playlist synching out of order

My playlists are out of order on my iPad and iPhone.  In iTunes the playlist shows the way I want it (sorted by date added...last added shows first).  However when I open the playlist in either my iPad or iPhone they playlist order is completely messed up.  In fact, I can't figure out what the order is as it isn't date added, alphabetical, artist, etc.
I have the latest software on all devices and I use iCloud synching and iCloud matching but noticed this problem before I used iCloud but after I had upgrade to iOS5 and OSX 10.7.2.  Also, I have right moused clicked on the playlist in iTunes and selected "Copy To Play Order".
Does anyone know what to do?
    Thanks

Me too, on my ipod Touch only (correct on iTunes and correct on iPod Classic).  So irritating!  It's ALMOST in reverse order (least recent at the top, rather than most recent the way I want it), but then within an artist, it's in arbitrary order.    No fixes found yet.
