Ipod Plays 2 seconds of a song, the freezes 3/4 seconds, then plays fine?!

Basically ive got the latest firmware, my Ipod plays the two seconds at the start of any song.
The thing then freezes for about 4 seconds!
The ipod photo then continues to play the song quite happily?!
It seems to do it every time i use it. Is it due to the amount of music I have on it (almost full / 30 gb)? I guess its not. Im lost .
Any ideas??

Yeah I had to restore it . Shame, had a lot of music that i now have to put back on. Oh well, problem solved .

The two times it has done this it has been charging. I have checked for hotspots but i have not activated any. So i'm travelling in Vietnam. Staying at this hotel, my ipod suddenly stopped being able to search for wifi, and constantly had the 'circle' indicating loading.. however my music and apps were still intact. However, i restarted my ipod, and when i turned it back on it said had no songs and no videos when i loaded Music, and when i tried using apps they showed the initial default screen of the app and then crashed. i tried connecting it to itunes, but itunes said it could not read the ipod, so it suggested i restore it. i googled solutions but none of them worked, and my music for itunes is scattered in my laptop and my computer back home. not being able to find solutions, i restored my ipod, and so now all my music is gone. i have to say im extremely disappointed with Apple for not giving solutions that work. im sure countless other people have this problem ( from what i read on forums, they do) . anyone had this problem and actually fixed it without restoring? i'd like to know for the future. thank you.

Here is Apples' troubleshooting for grayed out wifi. Frequently however, it does not solve the problem and an appointment at the Genus Bar of a an Apple store is in order.

Some music played from ipod plays in mono

some of the music that is ripped into itunes from my cd, when played from the ipod through my car stereo plays in mono. That is... the music comes out of speakers on one side of the vehicle. I know the problem is not the car stereo because other music sources such as cd's or cassetts everything is works fine. Some songs from the ipod play fine but some plays like mono. But when you play the songs back on the computer through itunes or the ipod with headphones, its sounds stereo. Can somebody tell me whats up with that?

No solution here, just chiming in that I've had that happen to me too, and at first I freaked out, thinking my iPod was broken or something along those lines. Guess I'm not alone.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Put Your Harddrive in the Freezer ?

I have a 6 months old external LaCie Porsche drive that won't mount. I've tried Disk Utility / Warrior without luck.
I've heard some rumors about putting drives in the freezer for 24 hours, then miraculously starting them up and getting the data off of them before they 'unfreeze' and stop working.
Any success with this ? If i try this am I harming any future potential for data recovery ?
Any help, alterate ideas, experience with freezers very welcome !

OK, that is very important information.
Neither of those programs can fix a FAT32 drive, as far as I know. But there are programs that can.
Can you give us some history behind the appearance of this failure? What preceded it?
What data is on it, and what computer did it come from?
I'd also add that the freezer fix is totally inappropriate at this stage. Normal recovery techniques with different tools still look possible. Perhaps DataRescueII, or by hooking up to a PC with recovery software. (The PC route should only be attempted by someone experienced with data recovery.)

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback to save battery power when the screen dims. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.
If none of the above works, you need to take it to the Apple store or wherever you purchased it. I think they are still under warranty.

Recently when clicking play on any song the ipod will shuffle through as many songs as there are in the album or playlist until it reaches the end without playing any songs. It also does not go through each song. For example:
a 62 song playlist. I start on song 16. Immediatly the song will shuffle: 16-26-54-62 and then back to the main screen. Also when the songs are shuffling the play button in the top right corner is on.
Music will play if i start from track one with shuffle turned off and repeat turned on. But then i am limited each time to 1-5 songs.
Ipod has been in excellent working order since this has happened.

When I tested it on another computer it claimed that computer was not authroied to play these songs even though I was just playing them directly off the ipod. Even more strange is that I alos have a number of songs loaded on my itunes from albums I loaded and I am fairly sure these songs were ones I recorded rather than purchased but now they appear on my purchased list.

Song downloaded from iTunes plays fine in iTunes, but only first 15 seconds will play on iPod then skips to next song?

Songs that I download from iTunes play ok in iTunes. On iPod classic though, SOME (but not ALL) of these downloaded songs will only play for 15 seconds or so before it skips to the next song. It is random in that some songs off the same album will do this, but others not. Any ideas?

Try this Hard Reset
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.
Test the sound again.

If these songs are in MP3 format, google and download MP3 Validator and run through songs in the library.

- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

It sounds like the iPod isn't restoring correctly. Try putting the it into Disk Mode manually and then restoring the iPod again as described in the article linked below.

Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds.
When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk Mode.

My songs play 10 seconds then switch to the next

My itunes is yacked! My songs and or videos play about 10 seconds then automatically switch to the next song. I synced and now my ipod does too! I have looked everywhere and cant figure it out! HELP!

I found that removing them from my iTunes library, then re-adding them, solved the problem. No idea why this should be happening though; the 30-second bit is surprising, and I wonder if it has something to do with 30-second previews that are available on some web sites. Perhaps there's some sort of marker in the file, and iTunes interprets it as the end of the file. But why re-adding them fixed the issue, I know not.

IPod nano (4th gen) plays any song for 40 seconds, then stops

Strange behaviour from my 4th gen iPod nano:
1. When plugged into Logitech iPod dock, plays any song selected for 40 seconds, then stops. Hit play, it plays for another 40 seconds, then stops again. (Logitech iPod dock works fine with my wife's iPod nano.)
2. When plugged into the Pioneer car stereo, the car stereo reports that the iPod is in SET UP mode, which it never comes out of. (As above, car stereo has no problem with my wife's iPod.)
3. iPod nano is detected normally by iTunes and works normally when plugged into desktop computer.
4. iPod (and iTunes) software is up to date.
5. Resetting the iPod (Menu + Centre button hold) has no effect on either (1) or (2) above.
6. Help?
