IPod Plays Podcasts one at a time

I just updated my 4G iPod to V3.1 with the current updater & I am using iTunes 4.9.
Currently, I am only able to play one podcast at a time.
It will not go to the next podcast on it's own. Pressing FWD (>) to what should be the next podcast instead takes me back to the main menu. I then have to go through the the menu to get back to play the next podcast.
My iPod was able to go the next podcast both on it's own & by pressing FWD (>) before I updated the iPod but not know.
My iPod does play songs one after the other as it always did.
It looks like this is the way it is as I can not find any settings to get it to play podcast's one after the other.
Can any one help?

Thanks for the guess.
Shuffle was already off.
Only 1 of several podcasts show up in the Genre "Podcast" despite the fact there are other podcasts with "Podcast" as the Genre as listed in iTunes.
So I am now only able to play podcasts one at a time. After each one, the iPod takes me back to the main menu no matter what I do.
This situation is new, & only started after I updated to V3.1. With the previous version, I was able to play podcasts one after the other.
All my Podcasts do show up in the Podcast play list.
I think we need another solution.

I recently purchased the new nano (7th generation) and I love it except for one issue.  On my old 2nd generation nano, when I played podcasts, it would play podcasts one at a time. So if I had 20 episodes of a podcast on the device, it would stop at the end of each one.
With the new nano, I can select and play a podcast, but when it’s over, it goes straight to the next one without prompting.  It keeps on playing all of the episodes of any podcast until you stop it manually.  Setting the repeat function differently does not prevent episodes from being played automatically.
This can be very irritating when I only want to listen to one podcast.  I’ve often fallen asleep listening to one episode of a podcast, only to be woken up hours later by the iPod working its way through all subsequent episodes.  It is also annoying that any podcast which has started automatically in this way is marked as ‘played’ – even if you stop it within a few seconds.  This makes it hard to keep track of what you have actually listened to.
Is there any way to set the iPod to play all the podcasts individually? I have read the User Guide from cover to cover, and can’t find a way of doing this.

    Dude or hot-spur,
Not fishy at all!!!! You really think I would have taken any more of my time to post a bogus rant? We'll no, it is unfortunately all true. I want to hear from anyone who is experiencing such problems not anyone else that wants to put there two cents in. I really don't need anymore hate or negativity. Just people's experiences because I feel like I am the only one having so many problems. Thank you
Yes, I have had some unfortunate bad luck to have so many problems at the same time, but some of them are just things you cannot do on the new OS.
    Thank you again

  • Can you play podcasts one at a time on 6th gen iPod Nano?

I've seen this question asked a few times, but I wanted to throw in my two cents.
My 4th gen Classic and my 1st gen Nano both would allow me to play one podcast episode at a time. This was useful if I had several episodes of one podcast and fell asleep listening to one, the iPod wouldn't continue playing the other episodes, it would just stop playing at the end of the episode I was listening to.
The 6th gen Nano I just got will automatically play the next podcast episode when the one you are listening to is finished. I perfer the old behavior of my 1st gen Nano. Is there any way to change the behavior of the 6th gen without using smart playlists or the sleep timer (I think those are kind of clunky work arounds)?
If not, then I would like to make a feature request. The button on the left of the podcast play screen that toggles between "play one after another then stop", "play same episode over and over", and "play all episodes over and over" should have one more setting: "play this episode and then stop".
It sounds like a pretty easy feature to add. What does everyone else think? Do you want this too?

I looked for this feature when I changed from my now-dead Classic 160 to 6th generation Nano, but I never got a good answer. Personally, I'd rather have a setting to allow this, rather than using the sleep/wake button, because I use that for play/pause. In the old Classic, you would choose to shuffle albums if you wanted continuous play from one track to the next, and you would turn shuffle off to stop at the end of a podcast (or maybe it was the other way around—I can't remember off hand). That's not as clear as a "continue or stop" control (which would be great), but at least it worked. I don't know if that's something they can add with a software update, but it would make for a better user experience.

  • Can I play tracks one at a time?

I use my ipod to audio tracks (podcasts) during boardroom presentations. I want to play one track at a time and then say a few words before playing the next track. The only way to pause between tracks is to hit the pause button. Otherwise the next track launches immediately after the first. Trying to hit the pause button at the right time is and clumsy. Is it possible to programme the ipod to play only one track at a time?

Thanks Diane. This is very helpful. And it works! The only downside is that after playing each track, the Ipod then backtracks by 3 'steps' to the Music selection. This means I have to make 2 clicks ("playlists" then "folder") before I see the list of audio clips again. This is not a major problem. But I wonder whether it is possibly to avoid being sent going so far back in the menu?
Thanks again for your help.. it really does make a huge difference.

  • Playing Podcasts one after the other

I subscribe to a few podcasts that are "song of the day" They download and I play the songs but I would like to play them one after the other like I do with normal songs in my library.
I play one song then have to go back in iTunes and click to play the next ...
I try highlighting a bunch and no luck. Then made a playlist of the podcast songs and again only one will play.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I see. Thanks for the info! At least now I know I'm not just missing a simple menu setting somewhere.
Are you (by any chance) saying that you have a video iPod, not a Classic?
actually I have both I have a Classic in my car, and a video one for travel. Both have the same issue but since it turns out they handle this differently, I wanted to know if the workaround posted for the Classic might have a counterpart in the video one... Thanks again!

  • How to have it keep playing podcasts one after the other, automatically?

This may be a stupid question... I have a bunch of podcasts on my iPod. I find that when listening (through the "Podcasts" menu on the iPod, not a separate playlist I made myself), when one is finished, it stops and I have to pick it up and ask it to start the next one. How do I get it to just keep going (one after the other)?

  • How to download new podcasts one at a time?

    Hello,
can anyone tell me how to download new podcast episodes one at a time? I have a slow 70k flatrate and iTunes starts all downloads at the same time, so most of them stop because they are too slow. So I have to klick each episode manually. Instead, I would like to leave my PC for one hour, and then all the podcasts should be there.
    Many thanks,
    Danny

  • Will videos/movies play continuously on the iPod or only one at a time?

I have 80g iPod Classic and wish it could play videos continuously like it can play songs. Nothing in the pdf manual about it. Nothing in iTunes prefs about it. Nothing in iPod settings about it. I know if I make a playlist of videos in iTunes, iTunes can/will play the entire playlist before it stops. I dragged the playlist to the iPod, but there it plays one video and stops. Question: can it be done or can't it, and if so, HOW?

IT CAN BE DONE! I went to the linked thread
    (http://www.podcentral.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=3801)
and tried this, which works: in iTunes create a playlist of videos/movies; select all; choose Get Info from the File menu (yes to the alert); at the bottom of the window (titled "Multiple Item Information") toggle the "Skip When Shuffling" to "No". Then you can drag the playlist to your iPod's newly created playlist box. P.S.: Of 11 videos, 2 were rejected for not being able to be played "on this iPod", even though they already had played on it hours before, even though I had to convert many files so they could be "played on this iPod". "In any complex system blah blah will eventually blah blah.

  • Multiple embeds, play only one at a time?

I'm working on page with CD track info and I want to have a small quicktime play button by each song that will play a 30 second sample. I've already done this by just embedding each mp3 sample into the xhtml page. The problem is, a person can click on multiple tracks and they'll all play at the same time. Is there any way to get (attribute or javascript?) so that when some clicks on a track, the previously clicked track that is still playing (if there is one) will stop first?
I appreciate any help you can give me.

    I suggest you start here:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/Conceptual/QTScriptingJavaScript/aQTScripting_Javascro_AIntro/chapter_1_section1.html
...with the JavaScript API for QuickTime. I don't have an answer for you, but some of the attributes you are looking for are exposed to JavaScript. One trick is that to get the QuickTime plugin to do the heavy lifting for you, you need to insure that you are playing your clips in the QuickTime plugin (duh...). They may be MP3 files, but you might want to embed them in a .MOV container in order to make sure they don't get hijacked by some preferred audio player.
Of course, if you do that, you could, I suppose, just use a QuickTime reference movie to link all the media files together into a single player...

  • Playing Tracks one At a Time In ITunes

    Hi.
I am a totally blind person who uses ITunes. I noticed that when playing a track from an album I have purchased from the ITunes store, it plays the rest of the tracks from that album as one playlist, rather than just playing one track at a time.
Is there a way to set ITunes to play one track at a time instead of as a playlist? If so, is there someone out there who is also visually impaired that uses ITunes for Windows and this forum that could possibly provide me with step by step instructions using key strokes on how to fix this problem?
Please let me know whenever possible. Thank you very much.
    Rob Bendtzen

Beside the songs in iTunes are little check boxes. If songs are unchecked then they have to be clicked on individually to play them. So by unchecking you can play songs individually and not have them play one after another. Holding down the CRTL (Control) key and clicking beside any song in a list or library will toggle the check marks in the boxes on or off.

  • Playing sounds one at a time

I'm making ebooks, designing in InDesign, exporting as PDF, opening the PDF in Acrobat and embedding sounds. In the resulting files if I click on one sound, say a three minute mp2 song, and then click on the next sound, the first one is still playing. If I then click back on the first one it stops for a second and then continues. I would like the behavior to be only one sound at a time, click on a new sound and any other one that might be playing stops. I assume this is possible. It's only logical.

  • IPod plays through one speaker

I've had my iPod 5th G for about 3 years now and today, without warning, it has only been playing music through the left speaker. I assumed it was the headphones I was using, but after trying 3 other pairs I found this was not so.
    What should I do?

If multiple pairs of headphones do not work, than the headphone jack/plug is probably loose and unable to make a solid connection. This isn't really something you can fix yourself unless you take the ipod apart, so i would suggest going to the apple store or contacting apple.

  • Playing Podcasts - Is Last Always First?

On my iPod Classic, podcasts are listed by date with the most recent one first. Podcasts are played sequentially in the order they are listed. This means that if I start playing podcasts from the top of the list, the newest one plays first, followed by the next earlier one, etc. There doesn't seem to be any easy way to play podcasts in chronological order - i.e., oldest first. The only way I can do this is to scroll to the bottom of the list, play the oldest podcast, then manually back up to the previous one in the list (which is next one chronologically), play that podcast, and so on. Is there no way to make the iPod play podcasts in chronological order?
(Also, the listing of podcasts on the iPod is independent of the way they are listed within iTunes.)

Unfortunately, that's the way the iPod Classic seems to behave. There have been posts about this before, but I suspect that Apple will not change the way this works on the Classic. (They have on the iPod Touch, although I realise that's not a solution!)
Now, one of the annoying things about this is that when the episode finishes, the next one on the list plays. If this bugs you too, try this: put the iPod in shuffle song/albums mode. (Don't use shuffle on the Main Menu) Go to the *Settings Menu* and turn it on there, or while a song is playing, press the select button three times until the shuffle on/off appears and turn it on there. Once you have Shuffle on, start a Podcast. You'll notice the Podcast now says 1 of 1 instead of 1 of X. When it finishes the iPod will stop.
I believe some people go the the trouble of creating a playlist with the Podcasts in the order they want and then play the playlist. I can't be bothered with that, I admit!
I suspect that Apple had a different idea than Podcast producers when it comes to sorting these Podcasts, because I'm sure I have one series (which I now cannot find since I have so many) which does list and play episodes in chronological order. Trouble is, now that Apple have changed this on the Touch, that series is in the wrong order!

  • IPhone plays only one playlist and won't others

    Hi guys,
can anyone help me; I have my iPhone for so long time, always updated with latest version of software, but recently after latest update 3.1.3. iPod plays only one playlist and won't play any other. Also can't enter any other artist file or videos. When I try to, Ipod closes! The rest of phone works fine.
Could it be problem with latest update? How can I reset latest update?
    Thanks!

The latest update works fine for most people, but your's might not have been applied correctly for some reason.
Try the standard troubleshooting steps in order:
Restart your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset your phone: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Restore your phone: Restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Downloading podcast one by one.

    Hello,
I have iTunes 7.0.2.16 and I want to downloading podcast one by one.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks.

Yes, I'd like to download podcast one at a time instead of 3 at a time. Why doesn't it just download one at a time?
At least ONE could get finished faster instead of the slooooooow rate of three. I have DSL and it still takes hours to download 40 podcasts!! ONE at a time!!! Please, how do I change the default setting?
