IPod plays wrong track

Hey!
I have searched but not found this problem. My IPod Nano will not play the right tracks. I press one track but it displays and plays another.
Yes, I have cleaned, reset, restored and updated iPod and iTunes.
I have an iPod Nano 4th gen and a MacBook Pro. I have these two as stand alone music making kit. I have few songs in iTunes appx 50.
Catch?! I use Logic to make a new track and I bounce it directly to iTunes.
I sync my iPod. New Track appears in my iPod. I press play and it shows ANOTHER TRACK and plays that other track!
I seems to work fine within iTunes. Bouncing tracks from Logic to iTunes makes appear and play correctly.

My wife and i have the same problem, each on different ipods and with different computers. We can't use your 'AAC' solution as the files are protected. The files/tracks--in this case audiobooks--play fine in iTunes and my music and podcasts have never had a problem. I've restored, upgraded, and I now even have a new Airbook running 10.6.1 and iTunes 9.0.2. The tracks/books play fine if they are loaded by themselves--even the different 'parts' of each book plays ok--but as soon as another book is loaded on the track I click on to play is not the one that ends up playing. Any suggestions out there?

  • Remote control plays wrong track!?

hi, i have set up a DVD with four buttons playing 4 tracks, each of which has 1 chapter (or clip) and returns to the menu after playing. after i've burned the DVD and placed it into the DVD player, pressing the numbers 1 through 4 however causes the wrong tracks to play: for example pressing "1" plays track 1, pressing "2" plays track 3, "3" plays track 4, and "4" plays track 2!
I originally had the tracks arranged differently, where in the menu button 1 one was actually playing track 4, for example. but when i noticed this problem i went back and set it up so that track one contains clip 1, 2 contains 2 etc. hoping the problem had something to do with that.
it did not solve the problem...
can anyone tell me what i am missing here? i simpy want to have each corresponding track play accordingly when i click its number on my remote...
thx in advance for any help!
    frank

so the final question then is are all the assets in different tracks, and if so, what order are they in when you look in the outline view (top to bottom)?
ok, in outline view all tracks align (1-4) vertically, and each opens the appropriate asset in the track wiindow (bottom middle) when highlighted. so all seems logical right?
so i burned another one (fresh build - no recycled versions) and stuck it in the player - what happens? whn i am looking at the menu, and press "2" the dvd plays track 3... same problem, but check this out:
if i am watching one of the tracks (say 1) and i press number 2 on the remote the dvd jumps to track 2 (i.e. NOT 3) as it is supposed to... this works for all the other tracks also)
so it seems the incorrect jumping occurs only from the main menu.. though as far as i can tell that is clean. BTW this time i deactivated "auto assign" in the Menu> Settings pulldown before the build)

  • Ipod plays classical tracks as singles

My 80g ipod plays my other genres in sequence but only plays the first track (movement) on the classical albums and stops. the display says track 1 of 1 even though on the info in itunes it says track 1 of (10) I read as many forum questions as I could find and was not able to see anything close to this. Maybe I missed a setting I couldn't see. Please help!

It depends a bit on how you are locating the music to play it, i.e. via the Cover Flow, Album, Artist, Playlist or Search menus. Do all your tracks have the minimum standard information of track no, track name, artist name & album title? Is the artist value the same on all tracks?
The following describes the issues & workarounds with getting iTunes & iPod to treat albums as complete entities.
    *Grouping tracks into albums*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover, append different numbers of spaces for each different album or set different values for the Sort Album.
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
Sadly the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums which causes problems when some tracks list guest artists. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate this is not part of the actual song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading prepositions (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track until I reach disc 1.
With classical music you also need to be wary of alternative representations of artist/composers names. The menus will work best if for each composer you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard performer details or place these into the Comments field.

  • [Bug] Spotify plays wrong track at startup.

Hey guys, I'm not quite sure if this is a bug, but this is what I found out:I usually just hit shutdown and do not close spotify via the red x button, I assume most of us do. But when I start my computer again, and spotify opens with Windows, the current track is not the last track I heard, its the last track I heard and then officially closed. So when I hear now song X from artist Y, and close my Spotify accuratly, then I am able to hear it once i restart my computer, but without closing Spotify accuratly, so just shutdown, I hear song A from artist B, which was the last track I heard and then closed accuratly. I hope this is explaining enough, im not mother speaker in english. Ask if you have questions!

I have the same issue. Also, when playing songs from "Popular" it plays the equivalent track number on the first album.
This seems to occur on the first album I play when starting Spotify. Going to another album resolves the issue and going back it's working as intended again.
Are you storing info from last played artist/album on shutdown and restoring it upon startup? Somehow the index on track-collections of last played artist seems to be +1 on startup.

  • Ipod plays wrong song

Ok, so I've posted a few topics about this a while ago, but none got answered, so...
Sometimes when I select a song for my Ipod to play, it attemps to play the song for a few seconds, it cant, then it playes a different song. I dont know whats up, its the newest firmwear, 1.1.1. I've reset it, and I deffinantly dont want to restore it. I did this on all the other different firmwears that I have had, 1.0, 1.1, and now 1.1.1. So, does anyone know a way to fix it? Or contact apple about it?

Don't be so sure of that. Also, you can get files from your iPod and put them back on your computer. (Might I suggest an external hard drive for the future?)
    PodUtil
    YamiPod
Both will rip files from your iPod, and place them in a specified folder on your computer.

  • Ipod playing wrong song

I have been having problems with my iPhone 4: when playing the iPod, it will say one song is playing but it's really playing another.  Also, every so often it will just stop playing altogether and I have to turn my phone off and back on to get it working again.
Has anyone else had a problem like this? How did you fix it?
    THANKS!!

I had this same problem a while back and I remember what worked was plugging in your iPod and then choosing "Restore" from the "Summary" menu in iTunes. You'll have to wait a while to let it resync, but once it does the album artwork should be back to normal.
    Hope this helps!

  • Wrong track order in ipod

My ipod has the wrong track order for at least three different albums of three different artists. Its only one song on each of the albums. All the album info is correct and in itunes the songs are all in the right order. I've restored the ipod twice to no avail. Any ideas

the only thing I can suggest is make sure your playlists are in the right order when syncing, so maybe have your albums in the right order when syncing? I know my purchased playlist is in whatever order I sorted it last...usually by play count. SO my most played song is at the top of that playlist. Maybe it works like that for albums too, so make sure the songs on the album are sorted by track #

  • IPod won't play album tracks consecutively, only one at a time

So I was trying to listen to some Brian Eno last night.
How do I tell my iPod that Brian Eno soundtracks are, um, soundtracks - as in, intended to be played piece after piece, one through thirteen? For example, if I go into eg a Kasabian album, I can play the whole thing without having to re-find the album for each individual track, + the tracklisting in the 'Now Playing' window on the iPod shows '1 of 13', '2 of 13', etc.
But if I try to play Eno's The Pearl, the 'Now Playing' display tells me each track is '1 of 1' - so it will only play one track + I have to go back into the iPod + manually select track 2, track 3, etc (which are all still '1 of 1'). And here's the weird part, if I look at the same tracks in the 'Get Info' window on iTunes on my laptop, each track is clearly labelled '1 of 13', '2 of 13', etc. Whassup with that then? It seems as if that info simply isn't making it as far as the iPod.
I tried designating the album as a compilation, but this just made Eno vanish from the Artists menu + didn't solve the problem.
Double weirdly, this seems to be a problem I have only with Brian Eno - is he on some sort of Apple blacklist??!
For the moment I've got a workaround, in that I've made Eno into a playlist - but surely there's got to be a correct solution?
    Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

  • How do I play all tracks on an album sequentially on iPod nano 6th generation ?

I have an ipod nano 6th generation. I want to play all tracks on an album sequentially (as if I was playing a CD) without having to select each one in turn. On my ipod nano it repeats the same song and wont move to the next one automatically. can anyone help ?

The repeat setting can be found from the Nano's Now Playing screen.  While playing a track, swipe to the right to bring up additional controls including the scrubber bar, as well as the repeat and shuffle otpions. See page 21 of your iPod's User Guide for more assistance on the repeat setting.

  • How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted part! What am I doing wrong?

How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?

After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?
How exactly are you doing this?
When I cut out a part of an audio region, then drag the remaining parts together, so they are touching, the track will skip the cut out section when playing the file.  Also, if I select the remaining parts of the region and use the command "Edit > join regions". This will create a new audio file with the cut out part deleted.
You should see this prompt, when you are joining the regions:

  • Playing individual tracks on Ipod Touch

I am currently using a Creative player and am thinking of getting a touch. What I like to do with my Creative player is: I open an album, select a track, start playing the track then while that track is playing I open another album in preparation for playing a single track from that album and so on. I would like to know if you can do that with the Touch. I know some players would just continue to play the next track on the first album so I need to know if the Touch will play only the track selected. Hope this is clear

I'm just trying to help and if you really want to buy that app that is your choice; however, I read the description and all of that is able to be done with the iPod's music app as I have described. I even went through and did it myself. You can create, edit and delete playlists. While adding music you can select individual songs within an album from as many albums you want. You can then shuffle those songs or if you want them to play in a specific order you can edit the order and move songs up or down on the list. All of this can be done, as well as the other playing/listens habits you might have all with one app that is compatible to play in the background while you check email or do other tasks. There is no need to purchase an additional app that you have to leave open for it to play how you want.

  • Ipod classic 30G stops playing some tracks

ipod classic 30G stops playing some tracks. Starts again when I skip to next track.

Do those SAME tracks play play properly and completely when you play them in iTunes (on your computer)?

  • TS1717 When I try to play a track, I get a mid screen comment, item no found, ? but they are all on my iPod even though I synchronize them together it makes no difference. Mark

When I try to play a track that I have purchased, I get a mid screen comment, item no found, ? but they are all on my iPod which plays fine, even though I synchronize them together it makes no difference. I also get further mid screen comments when I start I tunes, drivers or similar missing relating to burning cd's  I have deleted I tunes numerous times to try and recify this problem as suggested by the mid screen comments. again it makes no difference.  Mark

That exclamation point means the song files cannot be found, for some reason.  They are no longer where iTunes expects to find them.  They were either moved or deleted.  Sometime, a data corruption issue on your hard drive can make files inaccessible.  You may want to check that possibility, because other files may be affected.
Since you can still see the name, artist, and album of the missing songs in iTunes, you may want to try using Windows to do a general search of your hard drive volume, searching on the name of one of the songs (or artist or album name).  If you are using the default settings for iTunes, iTunes uses the name of song, album, and artist to name the file and directory path of the song file's storage location.  If they got moved for some reason, you may find the path to all of the missing songs by finding one song.  You can then move them back to the location where iTunes expects to find them.
some are ones I have purchased thru the itunes store, and it is these I'm most annoyed about, as I paid to have them and now cannot play them.
Don't be mad about those songs...   Any previous song purchase from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded at any time at no cost.  Go to the main iTunes Store screen.  On the right side, find Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  On the Purchased screen, click on Music and find those missing songs.  There is a Not on This Computer filter there that would be useful in this case.  Next to the song name, you should see a button with a cloud symbol.  Click it to download that song.
