Ipod plugged in with light turned on, but computer and itunes not seeing it

I got this ipod as a gift and when I first plugged it in, it worked fine and I put my music on it.
I went to do it again the other day and it does not show up on my computer or in my itunes.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes multiple times and i've gone through the steps of the help pages on itunes.
Today, it did pop up and said it was going to reset it and then it would restart it automatically when it was done, but it still did not show up on itunes!
Help!!!

Thank you all very much for the advice!! I really appreciate it... it helped me figure out how to open up the files.
I swear I think they make these harder and harder just so we spend more and more money just to get useless software and technology....UGH!!!
I was sweating bullets, I had video on my phone that is part of a civil case for me. Without it, I was pretty much screwed.
I'm just happy I have it now!!!
Thank you all again very much!!! I'm thankful these boards exist....

my Ipod is stuck with a picture of a connection and Itunes showing.. my Itunes says it is unable to recover it,
what should I do..the Ipod is stuck in this screen and nothing happens if I turn it on or off...

Due the unsuccessful updation your iPhone has stuck in recovery mode. you need to download the iOS 7.0.2 from the following link http://appldnld.apple.com/iOS7/091-9872.20130924.2wc82/iPhone4,1_7.0.2_11A501_Re store.ipsw and restore your device manually, please make sure you have all the backup stored since this will be a restore not an update so you data will be lost and you will have to restore your data from backup. You can do this by shift + mouse click the restore button in iTunes this will give you an opendialogue box to select the iPSW from which you want to update your iPhone after that have some patience and let the iTunes complete the installation and enjoy iOS 7.0.2.

  • IPod 2g will only be recognized by my computer OR iTunes, not both at the same time. Why?

So I'm having a couple of issues with my ipod 2g connecting with my computer (running windows 7). Initially 'My Computer' would not recognize my iPod, but iTunes would. Google told me to go to Device Manager and uninstall/reinstall and it worked! Only then my iPod showed up as a digital camera in 'My Computer' and iTunes no longer recognized it. So I went back to Google and ended up going back to Device Manager and changing the location of the iPod and now I'm back to square one (iPod shows up on iTunes, but not in 'My Computer'). Also just FYI, I updated my iPod and Itunes to the latest versions if that matters. I'm at a complete loss, anyone know what's going on?

I justed switched computers and I found that I needed to unplug the USB Hub connected to computer. Then I connected my Ipod and it was recognized. After which I reconnected the Hub and all is well

  • I tried to restore my ipod touch because i forgot the password, but computer says download not complete. How do I get my ipod to work?

My computer will not let me restore my i pod touch. My daughter forgot the password and we have not been able to use it. Someone told me to restore it, I tried and the computer looks like it is downloading for a couple of minutes but then says download not complete.

    Try here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Also include manually placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then try a restore
Then try DFU mode and restore.

  • Can it harm my Ipod touch if it was connected to my computer and Itunes while I'm installing a new program that makes lights flash on my computer?

I was installing and I'm not sure why but the lights on my caps lock flashed without me touching it. Can that harm my Ipod? If installing a new program affected the usb drive can that harm my Ipod while it's connected?

It should be OK as long as you are not syncing or doing data transfer via US like backing up or restoring

  • Ipod not updating and Itunes not seeing my folder

I recently added Itunes to a brand new laptop and apon hooking up my 30 GB video ipod, I realized the only music I could see in my library was what was updated off of my new Ipod. However, I also noticed that under my computer, the Ipod doesn't show up. Also all of my original Ipod files are still on my ipod but not showing up in Itunes....any ideas of what the problem maybe. Itunes does recognize my ipod, by name but and added the files off of my new laptop but thats about all it does. No updating the actual Ipod.

Typo correction on my topic post: I realized the only music I could see in my library was what was updated off of my new laptop.

  • Ipod updater 6-28 will cause your computer and itunes not to recognize Nano

Updated my new nano, and wha-la, it did not work. Tried the 5 useless R's. What type of updater is this?!! So beta.
THe following worked and I got the information from a posting by Casper.
Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
    Under storage, select disk management
Find the iPod volume and right-click on it
    Select format
Set the format to FAT32, and leave all the other settings on the default
Make sure "quick format" is not selected
    Start the format.
When the format completes, you should be able to restore with the iPod updater of your choice.
      Windows XP

You do have to be patient with the above procedure, could also try, using hp usb tool do a search on the forum for that method, there is also a dos method though not tryed it, though be careful here you dont want to format the wrong thing. Here are the instructions though They are alittle vague
    1) Put the nano into disk mode
    2) Connect the nano to the computer
    3) start > run > cmd to get to DOS
    4) Once in DOCs, I typed format <drive name>
    5) As stated above, I used FAT32.
    6) Rebooted computer.
    7) Run the updater. The nano was recognizable now
    8) Restore nano using the updater. This put 1.2 on there successfully.
    9) Ran iTunes, and synched all my music again

  • I have an iphone 4s that is having display issues. If I turn the phone on, it vibrates to acknowledge it successfully turned on but the screen stays solid black. I can plug the phone into my computer and itunes will recognize the phone as well.

I have an iphone 4s that is having display issues. If I turn the phone on, it vibrates to acknowledge it successfully turned on but the screen stays solid black. I can plug the phone into my computer and itunes will recognize the phone as well. However, itunes can not do anything with the phone because the phone is locked and I can not unlock the phone because the screen is black.
    >CURVEBALL!!!<
The screen does work though! Through trial and error along side a little troubleshooting, I was able to figure out that the screen will cut on after the phone dies completely. The phone has to die completely with no battery power left. Then if I plug the phone into a charge and wait a while for it to charge, the phone will turn on like nothing was ever even wrong with it. I charge the phone up to like 30% and turn it off then bam the phone turns on but the screen is solid black again.
I am currently in the process of waiting for the phone to die and when I turn the phone back on I am going to completely remove the auto-lock and lock code off of the phone for the time being.
    Any other suggestions? Please help!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

  • IPod Nano 7th gen not turning on but recognized by iTunes and Windows

My two-month old 7th gen iPod Nano is not turning on. I've reset and restored it using both Windows (My Computer) and iTunes and have downloaded the and installed the latest version of iTunes. It was working fine and now just will not turn on. It is being recognized by Windows as a removable disc and by iTunes as an iPod that I can sync data onto.
I've tried the 'hold the power button for 5 seconds' trick to try to manually reset it, as well as other variations with pressing down on the power and menu keys simultaneously. The iPod is new, ordered online and the nearest Apple Store is over 2 hours away from where I live.
    Please help?

    Hello, M.Ram.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that the screen on your iPod nano is black, but is recognized by iTunes.  Take a look at the troubleshooting article below as it may provide some troubleshooting steps that may help.  However, if the issue persists, see the section labeled Issue not resolved.

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.

My iphone 4s will still work and is still turned on but the screen will not light up. its completely black and my top button is broken.

Apple won't replace an iPhone under warranty if the iPhone has been opened/tinkered with by you or by a 3rd party, but they may under Apple's out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price.
There is only one way to find out for certain.
