IPod Podcasts tab empty after consolidating iTunes 7 music library

I followed these instructions to move my iTunes 7 library to a different hard drive. All seemed fine.
Except that when I connected each of my 2 iPods the first time after moving the library, each one complained that no podcasts could be synced because all of the podcasts that had been enabled for syncing were now missing; and then the podcasts that had been on the iPods were deleted.
And sure enough, the "podcast" tab in each iPod's preferences (where one can select which podcasts to sync to a given iPod) shows no available podcasts.
Weirdly (and fortunately), the Podcast source in the source list is fine. All of my subscribed podcasts are displayed, and each episode is still playable (and the music files are intact, in the new location). Additionally, chosing to sync "all" podcasts on the podcast tab would seem to work, because I'm told there's not enough space to move all the podcasts, and asked if I want to turn off podcast syncing for the iPod.
But there are no podcast subscriptions visible in tbat list, so I can't select any to sync. It seems to be all or nothing.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chris

I was able to fix this problem, just by chance. I manually updated a podcast in the podcast source list, and discovered a little later that the podcast I'd updated was again visible in the iPod's podcast tab.
I went through all of my subscribed podcast entries in the source list and updated them (right+click -> "Update Podcast") and now they're all visible again in the iPod podcast tab.
Hope this helps someone else.

I had a problem which is my ipod shuffle suddenly emptied after two to three days i left in my room. What's the problem actually can be turn be like this since it's the first time i through it..please send me an email regarding this at [email protected] Thank You!

Okay, and thanks for re-posting your photos. I have to agree that it definitely does look like crimping and would expect any continuity checks run on it to show an open or two. That would certainly explain your symptoms, but it's not the answer for all such cases, i.e., BLD, being reported here.
I've now purchased two 'broken' Shuffle's on eBay, both coming off of M$ systems and reporting the blinkies. The first was Alive on Arrival and is still living happily on a daughter's eMac. The second was totally dead, with no reaction at all to anything I did; it's now disassembled, with no evidence of your crimping on the ribbon cable, while I mull over buying an LI battery and getting someone to solder it in for me.
In your place I'd certainly be taking my evidence to Apple and pointing out that, at the end of the day, it was just a matter of pure luck that it managed to last as long with this defect as it did. I think you should be able to convince them to give you some sort of satisfaction on this, but appreciate your desire not to go through the bother of it.

  • HT201210 been trying to restore ipod touch for days after updating itunes. keep getting error #9. Tried it on 2 computers, with vista + XP. tried all the solutions posted. nothing is working. Thanks Apple. Didn't have this problem before updating itunes!

Been trying to restore Ipod touch for days after updating Itunes. Error code #9. Stuck on restore screen. Tried all the solutions posted. Tried on 2 computers, Vista + XP. No device shown on computer. Thanks Apple! Didn't have this problem before update. How about rolling back your update?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

    1)  From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.

  • Moving iTunes and music library from one computer to another

I need to move my iTunes and music library with purchased music, playlists, ratings, and legally downloaded music to another computer. How do I do that?

Try posting in the iTunes for Windows area. You'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer there than you will here in the iTunes for Macintosh forum. Good luck.

  • Transfering iTunes and music library to another computer

    Hello,
I just got a new computer and I want to transfer my iTunes and music library to it. I would normally just transfer the files to the new computer, install iTunes, and rebuild my library, but there are two things: 1) I don't want to lose my playlists and 2) I have purchased music from the iTunes Music Store and I'm not sure it will play if I do it like that.
I have a feeling it has to do with deauthorizing the old computer.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Fred, to the Apple Discussions!

You will definitely have to authorize your new computer. And if you won't be using the old one to play purchased songs any more, you should de-authorize it. Have a look at:

  • Checking "Most Recent Unplayed" in iPod Podcast tab syncs played ones too

    Hi all:
When I select "Sync 3 most recent unplayed episodes" under the podcast tab in iTunes, i get more than just the 3 most recent unplayed podcasts...I get a bunch of played ones too. Here's how it looks on my iPod:
    1. The "Podcasts" menu shows ONLY the 3 most recent unplayed episodes of the podcasts I'd selected;
    2. If I select the "Music" menu, then "Artists," then look for a podcast (for example, "ABC NEWS"), not only will the 3 unplayed episodes show up, but anywhere between 1-8 extra episodes also show up;
    3. When I turn off podcast syncing in iTunes, none of the podcasts show up anyplace.
    4. When I check the "Only sync checked items," those podcasts that used to show up uninvited no longer do if I uncheck them.
As you can imagine, this takes up a whole lot of extra room. Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone figured out how to fix it. I'd prefer not to have to manually sync my podcasts if that's the only solution.
    Thanks!
    Dell   Windows XP

I have a similar issue. I had previously checked to sync three most recent unplayed, but kept running out of room. So I turned off music sync. A few weeks later, same problem. Running out of room when I didn't think I should. So I, yesterday, changed to one most recent unplayed. However, when I sync, the status bar in iTunes shows it syncing podcasts I've already heard. aargh!
If I, within iTunes, check which podcasts are actually on the thing (iPod Nano, 2GB, one generation old) it lists seven podcasts, five hours, for 1.17 GB. What the heck? Only unplayed episodes show up, but I watched the status bar "sync" at least 20 played episodes.
So I disconnected it. Sure enough, only seven episodes are on there. Doing the math, there should only be about 200MB of space used by that five hours.
Is it putting "ghost" files on my iPod?

    - Try moving the backup file to a safe location so iTunes has to create an entire new one.. It is locate here and you may have to have show hiddn files turned on.
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Podcasts subscriptions corrupted after installing iTunes 5

I have my podcasts set to update manually and after installing iTunes 5 I noticed that when I try to update them iTunes showed there are no new episodes when clearly (and iTunes podcast directory confirmed it) there were.
Then I noticed "subscribe" button in the podcast directory's page for my podcasts was active and after i re-subscribed to all of my podcats (for example TWIT) iTunes added an identical TWIT podcast entry to my podcasts list and started re-downloading ALL of the podcasts i already had along with the new episodes.
So now i have a choice of either having to re-download all of my podcasts in order to get new ones OR be without new episodes untill this is fixed. And re-downloading all of my podcats is not an option cause of my connection. Also i don't wanna have duplicate entries for my podcasts in order to have the new episodes.
I really hope iTunes 5.1 comes out soon and fixes these bugs. In my opinion, this is the buggiest release of iTunes for Windows Apple ever made.

ME TOO. Now I want to know how I can DOWNgrade iTunes.
Also, when I have left iTunes open for a while, I come back to it, and the window is all indecipherable garbage.
And don't waste your time. I have done it all, and nothing has helped. I either download podcast by painful podcast or I don't get anything at all.

  • Even after consolidating, itunes library does not mirror music folder

i copied my itunes music folder from my old harddrive to my new computer. some of the songs in the library are not in the music folder. how could this be if i copied the folder? is there a way to make them exactly alike? is it even important for them to be the same if my library has all my songs? i tried consolidating to my music folder but that didn't help anything. i use only itunes for music and i am very confused as to why they don't match up even though i have itunes copy every import into the music folder.

  • IPod touch will no longer sync with my music library on iTunes since restoring to factory settings

I had to restore the ipod when it locked my son out as he'd forgotten the passcode.
I have around 1000 songs in my music library on itunes. Sync all songs is checked, but it saying there are 0 songs.
I'd like to sync all songs to the ipod.  Can anyone help please?

Syncing is iTunes keeping your iTunes library (or a defined portion of the iTunes library) "in sync" (the same as) the library on your iPod.  And iTunes syncing of content generally goes in one direction only, from iTunes library on computer to the iPod.  That's why, if you want to sync it to a NEW iTunes library, iTunes is warning you that the existing library on the iPod will be replaced.
So, you cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your iTunes library.  Once your iTunes library is consolidated with ALL of your songs, you can sync your iPod to it.
NOTE:  If you have songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store on the iPod, you can re-download them at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, under QUICK LINKS.

  • IPod, ITunes and Music Library

I am sure this question has been asked and answered a thousand times but I can't find the question or the answer here so here goes my shot:
For reasons I won't bore you with I had to create a new user account on my wife's machine. I did it by just using her first name instead of her first and last names. How do I deauthorize her iPod for the old user account and set it up for the new user account without losing any of the music that is in her old ITunes music library and on her iPod?

Use the instructions in this article to share the iTunes library between the accounts, or here to transfer music from multiple iTunes libraries to an iPod other than the iPod shuffle.
