when i try to connected my ipod's 5G charger that came witht the ipod it wont fit
Sounds like you purchased the iPod Firewire Power Adapter, instead of the iPod USB Power Adapter.
If you want to keep the power adapter you purchased, you'll need to also get a 6-pin Firewire to Dock Connector cable.
Otherwise, you could return the power adapter you have and exchange it for the USB power adapter and use the cable which came with your iPod.

  • OK to use iPod Power Adapter to charge iPhone?

At the Apple Store, they told me that I could use a power adapter and cable for an iPod with my iPhone. Seems to work fine, charges the battery fine. But I notice that in the tiny print on the side of the iPod power adapter it says, "Output 12V -- .67A". The print on the side of the adapter that came with the iPhone says "Output 5V -- 1A".
Wouldn't want to fry my phone battery with those extra volts.

It's not $29.99 + $19.99. They include with the iPhone both a dock/charger and a power adapter/wall plug charger. But only one cable between either of them and your iPhone. So, if you have a computer in one room and you charge your phone overnight in another room, you need another cable.
One solution is to to use some cable you already have, that fits, such as I did once, from an iPod 2 or 3 years old. But I had to use the power adapter that came with that cable/iPod, since the USB cable end was different. It said output: 12V. the iphone power adapter said output: 5V.
So, although the cable fit and the iPhone charged seemingly fine, I was not comfortable charging my $600 iphone with a 12v charger when the one that came with it was a 5v charger. I paid just $19.99 for a duplicate cable to the one that came with the iPhone, used the 5v power adapter that also came with it. Just in case. The apple guy at the "genius bar" agreed: it "ought to work" but, yeah...it's disconcerting...
So, that's the story. I now have a dock on my iMac and a power-adapter from the wall in my bedroom. Both supplied with the iPhone. Both using identicl cables.
What I would like to know, from some tech person, is YEA or NAY. The 5v and 12v iphone and ipod adapters are interchangeable OR they are not and WHY. Otherwise, we are all just speculating.

  • Which iPod Power Adapter?

I need to buy an iPod Power Adapter (for my video iPod).

Your iPod will charge over either Firewire or USB. However it would probably makes sense to buy the USB one so that you can use the USB to Dock connector cord that came with your iPod to connect it. If you buy a Firewire adapter you'll need a Firewire to Dock connector cord to attach it.

  • IPod Power Adapter

I bought this product: iPod Power Adapter from eBay. It made the building on fire.

It has sparked the extension cord. I used a glove and a scissor to cut off the stucked part.
After the cut, the whole apartment power switch went off.
Just sue the seller. I got his or her information here: [email protected] & [email protected]

  • Power adapter questions

    Hi,
I have a "late 2004" 12" G4 ibook and a FW800 15" G4 Powerbook and one single power adapter left (one has stopped working). This is a A1021 65W power adapter. The first question is:
    - can I use this power adapter for both laptop?
I have tried to purchase a second A1021 65W power adapter on ebay. So far I have purchased 2, These are , or they appear to be, genuine Apple A1021, 65W; but the problem is that the connectors, the one with the LED ring, will not fit in either of my laptops. This is the case for both power adapters, bought from different people. I am confused, because the adapter looks a genuine apple A1021, but the connector of mine fits perfectly in both laptop, while the connectors of these 2 don't. I have tried to spot the difference but the 2 connectors really look the same.
Has anyone any knowledge or experience with this type of problems?

    Hi Bendetto,
You can use the 65W power adaptor with both the iBook and the Powerbook.
As long as the adaptor is white, it should fit into the Powerbook or the iBooks you specify. You may find the outer shield of the power adaptor is slightly deformed. Try to make it fit, using gentle force while rotating it. Once you make it fit, it will be fine for the future.

  • Power adapter question (T410 2537-DN1)

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask.
    Thanks in advance,

You shouldn't have any problem. Car chargers use a trickle charge, not a full powered charge.

  • Battery and Power Adapter Question

    Hello:
I've seen several posts that address one issue or another but have not seen one that addresses both:
    On my iBook G3 14" -
-Will not power up (have tried steps to reset power management).
-Battery light, when button is pressed, flashes several times (more than a dozen?)
-Power adapter light does not come on
Ordered a new battery but have seen that another possibility is the DC board.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Is there somewhere that lists the various meanings of the flashing battery lights?

Since the power adapter light doesn't come on, I would suspect that the adapter isn't working. (I don't want to insult your intelligence, but have you tried a different outlet?)

  • Power adapter question

In light of the recall on the US 3G wall plug adapter (did you all see that?) I'm wondering if there's any reason to not sue the adapter and cable from my old 10G "classic" iPod. Appears to be the same connector, & when I accidentally mixed them up one day, the old one seemed to charge the iPhone. I know I can't sync with that cable, but just for wall-power charging?
    Thanks!

I believe the wall charger for the classic 10GB iPod is more than a few years old, which I also believe is based on charging via firewire only, not USB. Apple has been gradually removing support for firewire with iPods and the iPhone over the last few years. Charging via firewire is supported with my 5th generation classic iPod and with the first generation iPhone, but syncing via firewire is not supported with these devices. The firewire pins were removed from the iPhone 3G's dock connector, which is required for charging via firewire.

  • European Power Adapter Question

So I'm traveling to France next week and will be there for three weeks. I bought the global travel pack which has an adapter for European power. However, is using this adapter all I have to do? I don't have to "flip a switch" on the computer itself? Just plug in the adapter and go? I don't want to accidentally fry my laptop...

However, is using this adapter all I have to do?
Yes. Any power supply which is 100 to 240 volts and 50 or 60Hz can be plugged into the MacBook Pro without being converted. France uses 230 volts at 50Hz.

  • IPod Photo won't charge with Power Adapter but charges through Computer....

Hi got this problem... searched the discussion board but didn't find any satisfying answers.
Hope somebody can help me out here.
    Problem description:
My iPod photo won't charge using the power adapter from Apple. Bought a second one won't work, used different cables won't work either.
however it does charge via the USB port of the computer.
And it also charges via the car stereo plug (forgot the real name but it's from the apple store).
So does anybody have a similar problem? Could it be the iPod that is defective and also destroyes the Power Adapter maybe?
didn't try a different iPod to charge yet. So that's one thing left to try for verification.
untill then maybe somebody knows help, and it might be just a little setting thing.
    Thanks for the Help

    hi Rene!
hmmmm. it sounds like you've already tried most of the things listed on these documents:
    iPod's battery doesn't charge
iPod: Troubleshooting the Apple iPod AC Adapter
iPod: About the Apple iPod Power Adapter
from what you're reporting, i'm currently most suspicious of the electrical outlets you're using with those adapters. if you try switching it to a different outlet, does it charge properly then?

  • New USB Power Adapter includes cable

I just got caught and hope this advice helps others...
The original USB iPod power adapter did NOT include a USB-to-dock cable. I just ordered the NEW USB power adapter and the extra cable. Guess what - it now includes the cable!

Did you find a solution Raf SR?
I have a similar problem. After initial (updating/restoring) issues with my ipod mini which I won't bore you with, I got it working and charging successfully through my PC via the USB cable. Then I bought a USB power adapter for when I am away from my PC. When I connected my ipod to the power adapter it did the brief "do not disconnect" thing then "OK to disconnect" with no attempt to charge. I left it overnight and the following morning it had the battery/triangle/exclamation mark symbol and I had to reset the ipod to get it to work (I did this while still connected to the power adapter).
I borrowed a friend's firewire power adapter and that worked fine. I went back to the store and swapped my usb power adapter for another (firewire power adapter wasn't available) and it did the same as the first one. The ipod still charges fine via the PC and usb cable.
I don't get it! Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Power adapter - not from apple.

I recently purchased an iPod power adapter + dock from Value City I think it was. I don't use the dock, but I do use the power adapter that I plug my iPod into using the cord that came with my iPod. the box for the adapter says that it's compatible with iPod video.
is this okay to use even though it's not manufactured by apple?

Take it to your nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to have them look at it.

  • 4th Gen w/o power adapter

I bought a 4th generation 20GB iPod from eBay. I plugged it in and it started syncing right away, but it was slow because my old-school iBook only has USB 1.0. So, after a couple hours of syncing, I got a message saying that the iPod had no power left and that I should connect it to an external power source. I messed with it for a little while and got the syncing to sort of start again, but then more trouble, so I restored it using the 'restore' button in iTunes. The result followed pretty closely the details of this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
But when it got to the point where it says "Restore Instruction 1: Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models)" I was stuck because I don't have a power adapter. I thought iPods were powered by the USB. (The seller, a company [not an individual], made no mention of this either way.) But the point is, all the iPod does now is show a little picture of an adapter plugging into a wall. Any idea what I need to do here? Is it as simple as buying an adapter, or is there another way to deal with this?
Side note: I plugged it into my wife's G4 iBook with USB 2.0, and it still showed the picture described above.
    Can anyone help with this?

I plugged it into my wife's G4 iBook with USB 2.0, and it still showed the picture described above.
Plug it into the iBook G4 with FireWire, or an unit such as the iPod Hi-Fi, or try this method, or take it to an Apple Store.
