IPod/Printer Conflict??

Got a new HP Photosmart Premium C309 and installed it. After that ITunes wouldn't recognize any of our Ipods (Classic and 2 different generations of nanos). So I uninstalled the printer, and ITunes did fine with recognizing and syncing the Ipods. Then I reinstalled the printer, and again, ITunes wouldn't recognize or sync the Ipods. In fact, trying to sync the ipods would cause ITunes to freeze up. In the process also uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes, ran antivirus and spyware scans, and defragged my c drive. Tried to get help from Geeksquad, but no one there could help. Any ideas?

Is it a USB printer reddy? If so, you might be getting a power drain issue (not enough power getting to the other ports to sustain a connection when the printer is plugged in).
Have you tried connecting the printer to a powered USB hub and seeing if you then get a connection with the ipods while the printer is plugged in?

Well, Bluetooth has nothing to do with USB. (Unless you confused a wireless USB mouse with a Bluetooth mouse. Bluetooth mice require no adapters with Bluetooth built-in to our PowerBook model. If you were using a special adapter that plugs into your USB port in order to make your mouse wireless, then that is a Wireless USB mouse... which means that your USB ports are functioning in a way, but more malfunctioning than operating correctly).
Here are two places that repair logic boards that I know of:
    1) http://macservice.com/powerbookg412.html
    ($495)
    2) http://www.techrestore.com/xcart/home.php?cat=252
(choose your speed service, then indicate what needs to be replaced,
and it will tell you what the costs will be)
    3) Apple Store Genius Bar
(make an appointment and have them diagnose it for "free" and let
them tell you what they think is wrong... BEFORE they take it in and
in turn, charge you for repairs. Usually a diagnosis at the Genius
Bar won't cost anything. If they take it in and pop it open to make
a full diagnosis, that's when the charge for labor comes in. The look-
over and pre-diagnosis is usually free... that way you can decide if
you want to repair, do something else like buy a new computer, etc.)
    Are you still in warranty?
I wish I could've helped you more. We've gone this far. Last thing. Does your FireWire port work? And what about the other ports, like mini DVI, sound out, etc.? Ethernet?
    (I'll be back later tonight).

Sorry. That's what the "D" option was according to the other manual I read on the internet. (I can't say it's name). If all else fails, that is the final step. A necessary repair of the logic board. (Odd that the Apple Hardware Test does not report any errors! It may not be necessarily logic board failure. That's why I recommend going to Apple... that is, if you have one near you. I have four close to me so I'm lucky. If you have the same luxury, get different opinions from each Apple Genius... trust me on that one).

  • IPod Touch conflict with HP 6500 All-in-One printer...

Does anyone know of anyone who has an iPod Touch installed with an HP all-in-one printer and running under Windows 7 64 bit? If so I'd like to hear from them and see if I can pick their brains a bit. In fact, I'd like to hear from anyone who has an iPod Touch working with an HP all-in-one on a desktop system, no matter the OS.
Originally I tried to get them to work together under a 32 bit Windows 7 Premium build on an MSI G31M3-F V2 mobo but couldn't get the iPod and the All-in-One to work together. Either the iPod wouldn't synch or the printer would disconnect.
Yesterday I started with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit build on an Asus P5Q-EM mobo with just the HP 6500 All-in-One and the printer and all of its functions were working perfectly.
Then I plugged in the iPod, after having installed the newest 64 bit version of iTunes, and it detected the device but wouldn't complete the driver installation. I powered down the HP 6500 and the iPod installation completed.
I then turned the printer on and it appeared to work but the iPod wouldn't complete the sync process unless I turned the printer off.
Then I changed the drive letter of the HP all-in-one's integrated card reader from "E:" to "G:" and rebooted and it appeared that everything was working. I brought the scanner up but didn't actually scan anything but, still, no disconnect messages. Finally, success I thought. Silly me...
Today my daughter tried to send a fax from the computer. It started the scan, stopped after only partially scanning and said that the printer was disconnected.
She then rebooted and tried to scan a photo and it did essentailly the same thing -- a partial scan, froze, and then reported the printer offline.
Uninstalling the iPod Touch device resulted in the printer coming back online and all functions working perfectly.
There is clearly a conflict at the device/driver assignment level and I don't know if its even anything that I can fix.
This should not be this hard.
Has anyone any experience with the iPod Touch running on a desktop that also has an HP All-in-One device installed?

Finally installed a completely new OS and then, before doing anything else, installed iTunes and connected the iPod. Installed everything else with the HP printer being the very last thing.
    Wa La... Worked as advertised...

  • 10.4.8 and HP Printer conflict

I'd like to report a big, honking, piece of worthless equipment in my closet... My HP Color Laserjet 4500 was rendered inoperable after the recent update to OS 10.4.8. I called HP but they couldn't help me. It is clearly a driver/system conflict. The latest driver on the HP site was released last April. I tried Gutenprint, but it doesn't work either. The printer prints blank sheet after blank sheet and won't stop till I unplug it. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    Shari

OK...every time I rage at Apple, it turns out that there was a way out after all. This time, I went to the HP website, found the Knowledge Base (or whatever their's is called) document that walked me through the steps whenever "your printer is printing multiple blank documents."
I believe the mechanical shutter for the printing drum was stuck. I did a number of things to the printer, among them was tweaking the shutter by hand. Anyway, after following the steps and then reinstalling the printer software. Restarting. All is well in my world between my Macs and my 7 year old HP 4500n Color Laser Printer.
I hope everyone else has the same good fortune.
    Thanks.

  • Ipod/Netgear conflict?

I just bought a new 30g video. Everything worked fine for about a week, then I installed 'Netgear WG311t wireless pci adapter'. Now when I plug my Ipod in, my desktop says 'this device has malfunctioned' and wont open Itunes. I have tried to 5 R's but none work,(funny thing is I cant 'restore' because my PC doesnt recognize the device) I then plugged it into my friends PC with Itunes and it recognizes an Ipod right away. Therefore, I think I have narrowed it down to Netgear/Ipod conflict.....ANY FEEDBACK?

Seems strange.  What is the exact wording of the error message.

  • Question about Ipod/Printer Rebate

for anyone who used the student/teacher rebates on the ipod and printer, or anyone who purchased a macbook for that matter, do you guys remember a sales receipt that came with your macbook? how about the printer?
i am preparing to mail in my rebates and i need to include all the copies of the sales receipt. i do have the sales receipt for both the ipod and the printer which it came inside the shipping package, but i do not recall seeing one when the macbook/printer came. can someone verify this?
    thanks!

Did you pay with a credit card? Do you remember giving them a email address?
Because when I bought my macbook, I got a hard copy, and provided them with an email address, & they emailed me a copy of the receipt for the macbook.
I would suggest checking your email to see if they did email you a copy.
Or you could just go back to the apple store, the original purchase was made in.

  • Ipod nano conflicts- shows different names at work & home, won't open files

    Hello.
I have just purchased a nano (after having been satisfied with my shuffle), but I continue to have problems with the device:
I already had the latest itunes software installed both at home and work. Originally, I was unable to transfer songs to my ipod/or back to my library. I took it to an apple store and the technician was able to troubleshoot the problem. He explained that there was a software glitch. Actually, the ipod was renamed at that point to something else. However, this has not solved the issues I continue to experience.
    1) When connecting my nano at work, the name of the ipod is completely different than what it was from the APPLE store. It reads: HOME. When I open itunes, it appears that there are no songs at all. However, when I disconnect (safely remove hardware icon and then close itunes), there are plenty of songs on the ipod.
    2) While at home, I can not transfer any new songs to my library from my ipod. the device remains black at all times, also showing a different name.
    3) When trying to access my downloaded songs, I get authorization conflicts
    4) I also have a shuffle and I'd like to transfer songs from the shuffle to the nano, but I can't pull any songs from it?
What is going on? Why can I not see my songs at work in itunes? I reset and everything. Why is it named HOME?
I don't want to lose the songs that i have on the system.
PLEASE advise, I have had this for 2 weeks and not being able to really use it is frustrating!
    Thanks.

    incremental progress!
okay, these resources might be of some help with shifting music between the two computers:
    Using iPod with multiple computers
Transferring songs to iPod using iTunes
Copying music between authorized computers with iTunes for Windows

  • HP 7500 printer and hp 2540 printer conflicts on same network

I have a HP 7580 printer conected to my router.  We bought a wireless 2540 for printing from the iPad.  Now when both printers are on, the 7880 prints mirrored images.  I have to turn off mirrored image in the print preferences each time I print. Is there a setting that will correct this?

    Hi dctex,
I understand you are now having to turn the mirrored printing settings off each time you print. Instead of opening the print preferences each time you print, open the Print Preferences in the Device and Printers and change the settings there. By modifying the setting in the Device and Printers, you are creating the default print option. I am not sure how this got changed or why this started happening, but I suspect this will resolve the issue.
Here are some document with instructions in case you would like detailed instructions.
Changing Print Settings in Windows 7
Changing Print Settings in Windows 8
If you are using Vista, the instructions will be the same as Windows 7. If you are Using XP let me know and I will find instructions for you, if you'd like.
Please let me know if this does resovle the issue, or if the issue persisits. Thanks.

  • Modem/hp printer conflict

I have a apple usb dial up modem which works fine until I plug in my new HP PSC 1410 all in one printer to the usb port. When I then try to use the modem everything freezes until I remove the printer.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks

Great support from Apple - the guy at AppleCare took me through a set of steps to first check the hard disk and then reinstall the OS. Whatever we did worked, all is fine now.

  • Apple TV & iPhone/iPod download conflicts

So, I love both my Apple TV and my iPhone but they conflict with one another in terms of downloads. I don't have enough video yet to fill my entire Apple TV so I tell iTunes to send all of the video I do have to the Apple TV. HOWEVER, when I go to synch my iPhone I need to uncheck most movies and TV shows that I do have because I can't fit all that content on the iPhone.
Doesn't seem like a big deal right? Unfortunately, it is because it seems the Apple TV always wants to sync whenever there is a change. So, it goes ahead and deletes all my video from its hard drive shortly after the iPhone syncing.
I wish there was a checkbox on the Apple TV summary page that would allow me to tell iTunes to only Sync Apple TV when I initiate the sync. There isn't though so I'm looking for some advice.
    Anyone?

Was going to say the same thing. For the iPhone (I too have iPhone and AppleTV) I don't take the default options for syncing. I just made a playlist named iPhone and I put in it all the music I want on the iPhone. I then tell the iPhone to only sync to that playlist (not have to worry about checks and all then). Same for movies on the iPhone. When I sync I know what I want on it so I don't accept the default try to do all, but rather just set to pick right there in the iPhone Movies (or is it video) tab. Really not a big deal at all.

  • IPOD/IPHONE Conflict

I have had an ipod touch for about 2 years. It was installed on my PC with a HD that was running Windows XP, worked great. The drive got infected and I replaced it with a new hard drive running Vista. At the same time I got an iphone, I love it. But when I try to synch my ipod touch it won't let me move my old library form the touch to the PC. Had a good playlists on the touch I want to include in my iphone itunes library. Any suggestions?

On the iPod go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and Settings>FaceTime You can be reached at and add a unique email address and delete the one for the Apple ID and the phone's phone number.

  • ITunes / iPod 80G Conflict

Probably a "no brainer" but I'm a newbie. I uploaded a bunch of music and most transfered with no problem. On occasion(like this one) my iTunes shows all the songs I uploaded by a particular artist, but in my iPod I've got 5 different listing for the same artist; all with the same songs under each different listing.Under the artist category there all spelled alike, etc. How do I get rid of the multiple "same artist/songs" listings on my iPod. Thanks!

OK, i'll answer my own question. It seems particular to Bob Dylan that I needed to go back into the source files and describe all the songs with the same genre and album (Both categories) or it wouldn't see the artist as a single listing. Odd, his was the only one that gets treated this way, all the other artists have various genre and album listings and are not affected......go figure.

  • Is there any way of accessing my iPod through Windows without having to reinstall the apple iPod driver every single time?

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen, and whenever I plug it into one particular computer, it has trouble detecting the camera's files (but it works on all others). I know this tells me that it's either a driver conflict, or something in the BIOS. I don't particularly want to be messing about in the BIOS though if I'm completely honest. Can anyone give any insight as to what my ipod is conflicting with/why it won't open in Windows.
The only time the iPod opens in Windows is if I go into 'Devices and Printers' and troubleshoot the device "Apple iPod" (Apple Mobile Device USB Driver works fine) but I have to do this every single time!
The computer I am using is running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have looked at the list of conflicting drivers which are given by Apple and I own no drivers by any of these manufacturers as far as I know.
(Thought I'd be better underlining that because someone will probably try and send me to that page.)
    Image examples:
    Examples before troubleshoot
    I do as I'm told
    Now appears under portable devices.
I have to do this EVERY TIME I want to access the photos.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

    No. Have you tried:

  • IPod 60GB Freezes When I Connect to USB

I read a lot of the postings related to this topic, but none seem to fit my situration.
I have an iPod 60Gb I have been using without problems, synching regularly with iTunes, since Christmas. In the past couple of days, when I plug it into the USB port, I get the "Do Not Disconnect" message, which never goes away. Toggling the Hold switch does not reset it. Pressing the center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds does not reset it when the iPod is plugged into the USB port, but it does reset it if I first unplug the iPod from the USB port. Once reset, if I again plug it into the USB port, it freezes, and I have to unplug and reset again.
I moved the USB connector to another port, with no effect.
When I plug the iPod into the USB port, it does not appear in the iTunes display (and if iTunes is not running, it does not invoke iTunes), nor does it show up in Windows as a disk drive under My Computer.
I thought perhaps the iPod was conflicting with another drive, so I fired up the Disk Management utility under the Windows System Accessories and then connected the iPod to a USB port. Even though Windows makes the sound of a drive connecting to the system, nothing shows up in the Disk Management window to indicate a new drive has been connected, or that anything is conflicting with an existing drive.
I have performed the first three of the five R's recommended by Apple - Reset, Retry, and Restart. I have not tried to Reinstall because I have the latest version of the iTunes and iPod software (2006-01-10), and since the iPod is not connecting via the USB port, I do not see how running the Updater on my desktop PC is going to be able to push any updates to my iPod.
I am trying to avoid the 5th R, Restore, as that seems a bit extreme and that it will result in a lot of collateral damage from slicking the hard drive.
    Any suggestions?
Dell Dimension 8400   Windows XP Pro

    Hi there,
I'm having the same problem too. I've even gone so far as to try the 5th R. Twice now. The first time, as long as he iPod remained in it's dock afterward, it would still appear in iTunes and on my desktop so that I was able to sync it properly. However, upon disconnecting it and re-inserting it in the dock it was no longer recognoized and reverted back to it's usual "do not disconnect" screen.
At first I thought that it might have been a cabling issue, as I'd around the same time that I'd first experienced the problem, I switched from the USB 2.0 cable to a FireWire cable beween the computer and the dock. However, upon switching back, the problem remained. Furthermore, I'd recently picked up a newer 5G iPod. I've had no problems with it at all. So the dock, cable and ports that it's connected to are all fully functional.
I tried the restore another time tonight. Once again, the restore was successful. It copied all of my music back to the iPod. However, this time the unit managed to get itself stuck back in the "do not disconnect" state again without my disconnecting it from the cradle after the restore. So it's even worse than last time.
In the Disk Utility, the iPod appears. I can use the Verify Disk tool and it appears OK. As well, I can eject the iPod from here, which is successful at making the "Do not disconnect" screen go away. However, upon disconnecting and then reconnecting the iPod to the cradle, it sends itself back into a tizzy -- the unit appears as a disk in the Disk Utility, but iTunes cannot see the device as an iPod, nor does it appear as one on the desktop.

  • IPod Touch 4 will not send mail (Comcast POP account)

I'm having an issue sending mail (Comcast) in a new iPod Touch. I sync'd it with iTunes and the mail settings are configured exactly as my iPhone (which works sending & receiving). The iPod will receive mail but will not send. It's also able to get online through our wireless network at home.
The only thing I can think of is that it required me to update iTunes to 10.1 (from 10) before it would even be recognized in iTunes. I haven't sync'd my iPhone to the updated iTunes and really am afraid to, if that's what's causing the issue.
    Here is the message:
    "Canot send Mail"
The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings...."
I can't understand why the iPod's mail settings would be configured any different than the other 4 macs and 1 iPhone in our household.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for your help. After further trouble shooting I found that the iPod was conflicting with other outgoing mail servers that were listed as "Other SMTP Servers" in the mail settings. I deleted them and kept only the one that is used for this one email account.
"Authentication" continues to change from "password" to "MD5 Challenge-Response" on it's own. I don't know what that is, so I'll need to check into it to make sure it isn't an issue.
