IPod problems from ****

Okay, here goes. I tried to connect my Fifth Generation iPod to my Windows PC with the latest iTunes installed this morning. It said that it couldn't read my ipod and then my computer crashed.
I manually restarted the ipod because it was frozen. Now, it's stuck in a cycle of constantly restarting without loading the main ipod screen. Apple, bright apple, darkness, repeat.
I've gone into disk mode in an attempt to restore the ipod but it once again causes my computer to completely crash. Tried different usb ports, same result.
I've also connected the iPod to my girlfriends MAC. While not as dramatic, connecting the ipod still causes iTunes to crash even on her machine.
I've read fixes for some of the individual problems I'm having but none of them seem to fix, and I've yet to come across another person with the same situation (although I'm sure they're out there)
Any suggestions on a possible fix?

I did try, but then i might loos all that i do have on my Ipod and that would be very bad. So the problem is still there and i do want to keep all that i do have on my Ipod.
Since i have bought all of it from I tunes and i have formated my computer and lost all of it from that one, then i did transfer all to the Ipod to save it, but now i can still only play it on my Ipod.

When you still have the problem after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod then you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment a th Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Any idea what I can do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Hi there, I have a problem with my iPod Classic (from 2009). Everytime I connect it to my computer (Windows), iTunes does not work anymore. Music is automatically deleted on my iPod. Any suggestions please?

Thanks, for info, iPod Classic is a slower machine compared the Nano, unfortunately, if you read these discussions, majority of the freezes involved iTunes 10. Although if might be just slow and some impatient user just disconnect the iPod ands cause more problems. ( Yes I also did that but safely by doing a iPod Hard Reset, before disconnecting).
Here is the Apple support article that may help you.

or my usual solution for Windows Users.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your iPod to the PC, using a high speed USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC, do not use any USB Hub.
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
    Good Luck!

  • How do I stop the Atomic Browser on my iPod Touch from allowing websites to automatically load my App Store app?

I have the Bejeweled Blitz app (for Facebooik) on my iPod Touch 4th gen.  If I want to find gems (special items used in Bejeweled) I have to use a browser (I'm using Atomic Browser) on my iPod so I can grab gems from Facebook's news feed.  What's SUPPOSE to happen is this:
I set Atomic on my iPod to identify itself as Safari mobile (because the Bejeweled Blitz app on the iPod only recognizes Safari).
I load my Bejeweled app on my ipod.
I log into Facebook with Atomic and scan the news feed for gems and click on a gem.Atomic opens a new tab and tries to load the link.My iPod then switches from Atomic to my Bejeweled Blitz app and the gem appears in my game.
When I'm done with the game, I double click Home and swtich back to Atomic.
I close the new tab and search the news feed for the next gem.
HOWEVER, the problem is this:  About two-thirds of the time, when Atomic opens a new tab to load the link, instead of my iPod swtching to Bejeweled Blitz, it opens my App Store app and takes me to the Bejeweled Blitz app download page.  Sometimes the problem occurs when I'm done with my game:  i.e., when I go back to the browser, the iPod swtiches from Atomic and loads the App Store app before I even have a chance to close the tab.  It's a big pain in the neck because it takes a long time for the App Store app to load and when I go back to my Bejeweled Bltz app, it acts like it got dumped from memory and has to restart.
So... How do I make it so that my App Store app ONLY loads when I personally select the app myself?

I have set up my new iPad 2 on my computer (Windows 7), but experienced syncing problems from the start.  It seems that although my iPad is regognized in iTunes as it appears there, it only gives met the options to set up as a new iPad or restore from the backup, no synching options. What do I do?

File>Devices>Transfer Purchases will transfer the itunes purchases to your ocmputer.
You should sync your ipod to your computer regularly.

  • Can I downgrade the software on my iPod touch from 4.2.1 to 4.1

I recently upgraded the software on my 4th generation iPod touch from 4.1 to 4.2.1. Since then I can not use it in my car, the iPod is marked as unreadable. I wish to go back to my previous version of 4.1. Is this possible? I have sync'ed my iPod multiple times since then so I don't think that I have a backup that I can go back to.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions that anybody could give.
    Thank you

I'm sort of in the same position. My iPod been playing up today, so plugged it into my work computer running Windows 7, updated the software thinking this would fix the problem, little did I realise iTunes would wipe all my songs off it - no warning of such a thing, AND I took a back-up. Restored the back up and still nothing.
So I plug the iPod into my personal laptop thats got all my music on, and now, because its on iOS 4.2, iTunes 9.2.1 on my Mac wont recognise the iPod. So, I go to update that version of iTunes to 10.1 - but 'cus I'm on Mac OS X 10.4.11 I cant have iTunes 10.1 - so basically I'm screwed.
I've been trawling the net for about 2 hours now trying to find ways of downgrading the software, and all I seem to be able to find out is that there is no 'legal' way of doing so.
I'm generally a big fan of Apple, but tonight has been an eye opener to their money spinning ways - the only option I can see right now, is to update my OS on my Mac - not looked yet, but I'm guessing not cheap.
Any help on getting my software back to 4.1 greatly appreciated as I've got a fairly recent iPod backup file on my Mac (which should work so long as I can get iTunes 9.2.1 to recognise the iPod).

Whenever I try to download or redox load an app, a sign says I need to sign in. I do, but it then says I have a billing problem from an earlier purchase and I don't have money on the card so I can't put anything even though I tried. How can I get rid of the card on my ipod??

Sounds like you have an outstanding balance. You have to pay that of before you can make purchases, even free ones. Add a valid payment method to your account

  • How to convert IPOD software from 1.2 to 1.1.2 or at least to its prior ver

Version 1.2 removed the capability of my ipod to scroll on its screen directly while connected to CD-IB100. How can I restore the older ipod software?
Ipod video 60Gb   Windows XP Pro

I was able to solve this... I converted my IPOD version from 1.2 to 1.1.1 - with this, I can now scroll on my ipod even if it is connected to CD-IB100.
I got the solution from one of the postings here... thanks so much Bushido Philoso. Anyway, here's how I did it (based on the exact words from the post):
So first of all, uninstall iTunes 7.0. (You do not have to remove your library information, just the software.) Restart the computer.
If you still have the old iPod updater, try it and see if it runs. If it does, read on. If not, skip to the next paragraph. So, if it does run, simply hit Restore and you can go back to a previous version of the firmware. I believe that Apple discontinued the firmware page since releasing iTunes 7. Look around some search engines like Google if you really want the latest firmware.
Take out the installation CD that came with your iPod. Run it and it should install the old iPod updater along with iTunes 6.x. iTunes 6.x cannot run since iTunes 7 changed your libary's formatting, but that will not be a problem. Run the Restore process in the old updater and it should be alright for you to start loading your stuff on again without problems.
Since iTunes 7 reformatted your libary listing, iTunes 6 will no longer work. However, you can still use it by reinstalling iTunes 7. Just make sure you do the following.
TO KEEP THE SAME THING FROM HAPPENING AGAIN
iTunes 7 is actually alright. It's the updater part of it that will screw up your iPod.
    - iTunes 7 will tell you that a new iPod software version is available when you open it.
    - Check the "Never Ask Again" box and click Don't Install.
    - When you sync your iPod to your computer, NEVER touch the Version section when you're changing your iPod's settings. Everything else is alright to work with.
    - Everything will work fine as long as you never update the iPod's software via iTunes, at least until the programmers can fix this issue in a later release or patch.

  • Update 2g ipod touch from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1?

Should I update my 2nd generation ipod touch from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1?  Are there any performance, battery or other issues?

From what I've seen, some report battery and performance problems and some don't.  Many reports are written by people who don't seem to be very sophisticated, so it's hard to know if the problem is with the update or the user. There also seem to be unit-by-unit variations.  As I type this, I see someone who's having a problem with 3.1.2, which has been fine for me.   I've seen fewer reports of problems with 4.2 than 4.0, but have not seen any good comparisons of 3.1.2 to 4.2.
Most apps I use have iOS 4 updates available.  If updating doesn't cause much of a problem, it would make sense, but it's not worth it if I'll suffer serious battery or performance issues.
I'm guessing I'm not going to get a definitive answer.

  • 20 GB Ipod Problem - Not viewable in Windows and wont start

Hello all, wondering if you can help me with this Ipod problem i have.
    1) Ipod turns on and displays folder with exclamation mark.
    2) Ipod is not viewable in my computer
1 - I have tried a reset and putting into disk mode, which goes through fine, but it still starts with the above error.
2 - I can sometimes view the Ipod in My Computer and or disk management, but can not go into it or format it. Diskj manager reports it as un-readable.
If i try to run Ipod update/restore application it asks me to plug in an Ipod.
Any ideas on what else i can do? I thought i could at least get windows to see the device and format it to a standard Fat32, then use the Ipod restore to re-write the folders to use it as a ipod.
    Thanks

    Try this then
The Sad iPods icon, clicking sound or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
There are also some cases being reported that some unrecognized iPod being able to be erased with Linux, then reconnect the iPod with the original computer and do a Restore there.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
    10. Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
    11. Put your iPod in disk mode and plug with a computer, and have a boot of your computer using the Mac OS or XP startup disks, hope that your iPod will be seen on Mac's Disk utility and allow you to do a Erase there. Or, under the XP, you will be able to find your iPod there for you to do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this
