IPod random shut off

I went to shake my iPod nano 7th gen. to shuffle to song and it randomly shut off. It won't turn back on even if I plug it into my computer. It's brand new.

Does this happen everytime you use the shake shuffle function? If yes, return the unit to Apple and request for replacement. If it happen only once, try to reset the ipod to turn it back on. Cheers!

hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize any help will be apreciated thank you

Try placing the iPodin recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

    Hey madelinefrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like it may be a hardware issue if moving the earphone shuts off the iPod. A frustrating situation for sure. Take a look at this page for information on available service options.

  • My ipod randomly shut off and wont turn back on

My ipod touch shut off last night while i was charging it and it wont turn back on

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • IPod randomly shuts off and freezes on a black screen

(I believe I have a 3rd generation.. I just bought it in July, and it has multi-tasking and wallpapers..)
My iPod Touch randomly shuts itself off.
It doesn't matter if i'm in an app, or playing music, or watching a video, or hooking it up to my computer. It just has it's fit, and shuts itself off.
But, when it shuts itself off, it becomes unresponsive. It won't turn back on for like 5 minutes. And even then, sometimes it turns on, other times it freezes on the Apple screen, or it will go to a white screen.
Every time I've made an appointment to go to the Genius Bar to have it looked at, it starts working fine. (I live about a hour and a half away from the nearest Genius Bar, so it's not really cheap for gas to get me there..). I've tried restoring it (from scratch and from a backup), but it eventually starts doing its thing. I've tried leaving all apps, movies, e-mails, and everything but music, and it still does it.
If I do drive all the way to the Genius Bar, and they can't duplicate the problem, are they just going to send me away and do nothing?
Or does anyone on here know of anything I can try??

First I would try restoring from your backup. If that does not work I would restore to factory-new condition and manually add apps and other things back on since there may be something corrupted in your backup.

  • My iPod randomly shut off

I Was on the YouTube app on my 16gb iPod 5. And randomly it dimmed and there was a red bar coming down from the top of the screen and a blue bar coming up from the bottom of the screen. could there be something wrong. And my iPod was low on battery and there's a small dent on the back of the Apple logo in the middle also my iPod was kinda warm.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPhone iPod randomly shuts off, battery life is 2 hours

I really think there is something wrong with my iPhone because yesterday it was only at 2 hours of use time and 3 hours of standby time since full charge before it dropped to 20. I did use youtube and barely listened to music. Is that pretty normal?
Right now its only at 9 hours of use time and 10 hours of standby and its already drained down to 20%. I only listened to music with only 2 videos of youtube and about a quarter use of web browsing. I find myself having to charge it every night. Which means I cannot sleep with my iPhone while listening to music, or if I do that then it will be dead by the next day.
Then last but not least is at random times during web browsing, I haven't have proof to confirm that it does things outside of web browsing itself, the iPod music I'm listening to just stops. I double click the home button and it only brings me up to favorites.

I have the same iPod stopping during surfing... Your not alone.

  • My iPod randomly shut off and wont reboot

So my ipod battery was at like 20 percent. I plugged it in to charge left it alone for like 15 minutes and went to check on it, hit the home button it did nothing. I tried holding the home and sleep button to reset it, nothing. Tried letting it charge, again nothing. Tried plugging into my computer, yet again nothing. I'm all out of ideas and I dont have money to get a new one or fix it, and theres no apple store close

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod 5 Shut Off Randomly??

My Ipod 5 randomly shut off, and won't turn back on. I've tried charging it, but it doesn't respond. The home button is broken, so I can't hold the lock button and home button together to reboot it. Any way to turn it back on??

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • 7th Gen iPod Nano shuts off randomly

My iPod Nano is just about my favourite piece of hardware that I've ever bought from apple. I'm primarily a pc user when it comes to computers, and having a basic, small iPod means I can listen to music and podcasts and leave the more complicated tasks to the equipment that I've spent more money on. However, my iPod recently started bugging out in a way that makes it nearly unuseable.
The iPod will quite happily run for a day or so if I don't use the touch screen. This is fine for podcasts as I can use the volume and play-pause on the outside. However, if I want to make a choice on the screen, about one in five touches will cause the iPod to shut off. If I reset it, it will either flash the apple logo and shut off again, or get to the homescreen with the loading symbol, then make three short beeps and shut off again. General internet searches have proved fruitless, and although the iPod is cheap enough that I can buy a new one without it being too much of an issue, I would much prefer to keep that money for other things.
Although apple hardware isn't my area of expertise, I believe that there may be some kind of issue with the battery, as there have been black-outs and brown-outs in my area and my iPod has ben charging during a couple of these. I was thinking that the RAM could also be in bad shape for some reason, but I did a dram test, which it passed. The iPod is currently in diagnostic mode, so I can give information on the battery and the like if that would help, but I have no idea what the numbers mean personally.
My warranty ran out a few weeks ago and I live about two hours from the nearest Genius store, so bringing it back isn't really an option. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well the bug appears to have been fixed by the 1.0.3 patch. My battery is still stuffed so I will have to buy a new one at one point, but at least this issue is sorted out.

  • Iphone 6 randomly shut off and will not turn back on - help!

I bought my IPhone 6 last fall from T-Mobile.  My iPhone 6 was working just fine about an hour ago.  Went to hit the home button to check the time and it would not turn on.  It appears to have randomly shut off and now it will not turn back on.  Tried holding the power button - nothing... same with the home button.  Assuming I need to take it in for service, but I'm not sure if there is some easy fix for this.
