IPod randomly duplicating songs?

Has anyone else had this problem? My iPod (4th Gen) has been doing this for a while, I will sometimes find that it has duplicated random songs, so there will be 2 of the same song. It always happens with different songs. And it will play both, as is shown by the number of plays on each file. What's up with that?

Tyler,
In regards to the battery, see this page:
iPod iconology or what does this picture on my iPod mean?
And see these pages for information about skipping songs. Often it has nothing to do with the iPod, but instead the music that the user puts on - bad CD ripping, illegally downloaded songs with virii in them, you name it.

And in regards to your bump post, it had been only an hour. Sometimes it can take days or weeks for someone with the right information to help you. Please be patient. The people on these boards try their hardest to help others.
I hope this helps, please post back!

  • Ipod Randomly Pausing Songs

    hi all,
Just before i went on holiday i bought the isound 2.1 sound dock system, and also updated my ipod touch to 1.1.5 update
Since then, my ipod randomly pauses songs, regardless of the screen being on / off, the lock feature being on / off, using the dock speakers, 3.5 jack speakers, or earphones
im really hoping its down to a firmware issue but i have no idea.
    Any suggestions?

The iPod will pause if you pull the earbud jack out - this is a feature. Unfortunately sometimes a set of earbuds will have a jack this is just a bit loose and this will fool the iPod into pausing. Try using a different pair of buds. If the problem continues with a different set of earbuds, give Apple a call.

  • IPod randomly recopying songs

For the past couple of days my iPod has been acting weird. At first, it would give me a 'corrupt file' error when I plugged it into my computer via USB 2.0 (Firewire quit working on me a while ago). I reformatted my iPod and then recopied the songs, no big deal. But every time I plug my iPod in, it seems to copy about 60 songs at random back onto it, almost as though it's forgetting about those songs or deleting them. Is my harddrive failing? thanks!

I'm having the same problem as far as the re-copying of songs. It looks like if I create a new playlist that needs to be transfered to the iPod it copies the playlist and then re-copies all the songs that are in the new playlist. Makes synchronizing the iPod an extended adventure.

  • How can i stop itunes randomly duplicating songs?

Everytime i sync my iphone 4s on ios 7 with itunes, during the sync process it searches for downloads and randomly redownloads entire albums and syncs them to my phone. Usually it duplicates 200-300 songs, and thanks to the removal of the delete duplicates option in itunes i have to delete them one by one manually. Also sometimes both duplicates play and sometimes only one. Is there any way to resolve this? Any help greatly appreciated, im about ready to stomp it.

  • New iPod randomly skipping songs

I got a new iPod classic 120GB, replacing my old 60gb. I loaded it up with my songs and stuff, and started using it, but after a while it skipped to next song halfway through a song. This happened a few times, and once the ipod even restarted itself (after displaying a low quality 8bit colour apple logo image). I then restored my iPod, and checked for latest software, and it seemed to be better for a while, but it just skipped a song again.
I'm pretty sure all the song files are mp3, but maybe some AACs. Songs that skipped played fine other times. iPod hasn't been dropped since I got it... I guess I have to take it to an apple center for warranty... Does anyone elses new 120GB skip songs?
    Thanks
    Rodger

Iv had my 120GB Classic since early September when they came out and iv noticed that it skips on a few song s but not many, though I do tend to listen to the same small selection of music! In my experience it has skipped at the exact same point in a particular song. as someone else has said on here, i can fast search through the song past that point and it will play the rest no problem. its like there is a speciffic marker in the song that it doesn't like. Pretty stupid if you ask me!
However, it happened to a Lost Prophets album first and the only way i found round it was to re-record the album in and its worked fine since. But since then iv found more songs that do it. Its really frustrating!!!!
I might look at taking it back then as i thought it was just my music. I didn't realise anyone else was having the same problems!
    We shall see...

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

wait until you reach the limit of five authorized machines. then, once a year, you will be able to deauthorize all machines, following which you can reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.

On my ipod touch my songs start in random places and jump to different places as it plays, the remember position is not ticked can anyone please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Now I don't know what to do.
    Thank you very much

Plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on it from under Devices in the left hand pane.  This brings you to the Summary tab.  Locate and click on the Music tab.  What configurations do you have made from under this tab?  Is your iPod configured to sync those playlists?

  • IPod random songs using shuffle?

I have a 4GB iPod nano. I am wondering when you listen to songs using random "shuffle" does the iPod randomly search through all the songs each time it selects or does it first eliminate the songs already played? Thanks.

The shuffle setting does not skip the songs already play. So, you could get the same song twice in a row.

  • How to randomly fill songs to ipod/itouch

I would like iTune to randomly fill songs to my iTouch like the IPOD Shuffle. My problem is if I checked the option to automatically fill songs to my iTouch, it always update with the same songs and that is the same 400 songs out of my over 2000 collection.

    Okay.
Just for information though (and for the benefit of other readers), the basic idea is create a Smart Playlist (a controlling Playlist) that includes the music you want to remove temporarily. So the first rule would be (for example) Genre / is / pop. The second rule is Last Played / is not in the last / 3 months for example. After a song is played, it is removed from that Playlist for a period of three months. After that, it is automatically put back into the Playlist again.
If you Sync only selected Playlists and choose that (controlling) Smart Playlist, then the contents of the Playlist will be the only music on your iPod. (When choosing these options - with the iPod connected and you looking on the iPod/Music pane, you can specifically Sync particular artists, albums etc. So any album for example can be made to stay on the iPod all the time, in spite of the controlling Playlist rules.)
Note though; if the music is recently added to iTunes, it will be in the Recently Added Smart Playlist. If you allow the Recently Added Playlist to Sync with your iPod, then the songs will stay on the iPod because they are also in the Recently Added Playlist.
Likewise, (and more importantly), after being played, songs are added to the Recently Played Playlist. If that Playlist is allowed to Sync with your iPod, then once again the songs will stay on the iPod. This could be a good thing; the Recently Played time is two weeks. So once a song has been played, it will stay on the iPod for two weeks, so if you feel like playing a song several times in a short pereiod, it will still be on the iPod. But after two weeks, it it hasn't been played, it's dropped from the Recently Played Playlist as well, and therefore removed from the iPod. With your controlling Smart Playlist set at three months, the songs will be removed from the iPod for 10 weeks.
If a song stays on your iPod when you don't expect it to, then there will be a Playlist somewhere that's causing that. You simply have to find it and modify the rules to make it do what you want.
If this method doesn't remove enough songs from the iPod, simply lengthen the exlcusion time to four, five or more months. You can also reduce the Recently Played time if you wish. Or exclude more songs; you can do this by genre or even by time.
A slightly rushed explanantion. If you need more help, ask.

  • IPod randomly stops uploading songs

I have just restored my iPod (iTunes asked me to) and I have made sure all the options are correct, but for some reason, my iPod stops uploading songs (and is very hot). Sometimes it stops at 34, 72, 110, etc. I also have the most recent iTunes and iPod Software Updater. I don't know whether it's a solvable problem or my iPod is completely broken. Any help would be great.

Yes!!! Me too--Got the folder w/exclamation pt, Restored iPod (a second time after this problem occurred, just to make sure I did it right the 1st time), try to download songs and it'll only do about 5-7 at a time (I don't have as many as a lot of people, but 1200 songs 5 at a time HURTS)! HELP!!! (sorry. very frustrated--this has lasted a week!)

  • Albums in library have duplicated songs.  How do I remove duplicated songs?

The albums in my library now have duplicated songs.  I do not want to sync my itunes form my computer to the IPod classis but do not want duplicated songs.  Is there a way to do this without having to manually delete the duplicated songs?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
