IPod reboots in an infinite loop!!! :-(

hi all,
I've had many iPods, starting from the 5 GB mechanical wheel model -- but what happened right now was the worst thing ever and I'm really p*ssed.
All of a sudden, my 60GB color iPod began to boot while standing in its dock.
But it didn't boot just once but over and over again.
I took it out of the dock and tried the MENU/CENTER button combination -- to no avail. It continued booting. (Apple logo, light on, light off, repeat...)
I then used the AC adapter and put the iPod directly to an AC outlet.
No change in behaviour!
Tried several key combinations. No avail.
Plugged it out of the outlet back into the dock, this time via USB (usually it's connected via firewire-dock.)
Still same behaviour.
Pressed the center and the play/pause button at once for several seconds and the iPod stopped booting! BUT the display came up with a monochrome version of the OS and showed "disc mode" and "OK to disconnect".
what the ...?!!??
disconnected, rebooted with menu/center.
it restarted in color mode with the apple logo and finally came back to normal operation -- I THOUGHT ...
put it into the dock (USB) again -- it didn't mount in os x (10.4.2). neither in Finder, nor in iTunes.
so I pulled it again out of the dock and put it in again.
this time it mounted -- BUT iTunes showed NOT A SINGLE OF MY APP. 3500 SONGS!!!! AAARRRRGGGNNNN!!!!
although the bar at the bottom of the itunes window showed that 9.1 GB are used ... hyper strange!
after I put it out and into the dock once more, now iTunes (always v6) says that only 621.2MB are used.
With Terminal I searched all the Fxx directories in the iPod_Control/Music folder and they're all empty!
WHAT THE xxxx HAPPENED?!?!?!?!?
I was always so excited about Apple products and their quality and told all my friends how proud I am to be an Apple and especially an iPod user! But now THIS???
Do I really want to buy that new video iPod? Up til this happened I thought yes. but now? ...
maximum disappointed,
Stefan.

More than likely your firmware has been damaged and you need to restore your ipods firmware. This does though delete everything on your iPod. If it still isn't starting up or showing up on your computer you can put your iPod into disk mode. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651. That will tell you how.

  • How to install firefox, when trying says previous version detected must reboot. Stuck in infinite loop

Trying to install newly downloaded firefox (had previously removed about a month ago through programs uninstall), however when I try to run the install, it says a previous version is detected, and the system must reboot. System reboots, but install never happens, I go to run the download again, and it appears I'm stuck in an infinite loop. I can't get latest version firefox to install

I succeeded in installing Firefox after getting this message.
I went to add/remove programs to verify that Firefox wasn't on the list, then I went to the program files directory and deleted the Mozilla/Firefox directory that was left over from the uninstall.
I attempted to reinstall Firefox and, voila, it installed with no issues.
I know it can be dangerous to delete a program directory, but if you have properly uninstalled the program itself and it isn't in the add/remove list (but still exists in the program directory), deleting the parent directory for the program should affect system performance.
I have done this dozens of times over the years and never had a problem (I have NEVER deleted a system directory though. That would be a BAD idea).
    I hope this helps.

  • Iphone 6+ infinite loop of reboot and crash

Just bought new iphone 6+ , 128G, started it as a new phone to setup, and then updated to 8.1 software, then i have reset all settings so that i can setup it as a phone from the icloud, but now it got into an infinite loop of reboot showing red screen for 1-2 seconds and then normal apple reboot logo.
I was really looking forward for the new iphone 6+, it is so annoying and disappointing from Apple.
    what shall be done?

Try to use iTunes on your computer to set it up as new device. To make sure that this is not software related set it up without using the latest backup first, in case it contains damaged data causing the crashes.

  • My Ipod is stuck in an infinite loop not like the others so far discussed

Today out of the blue my 5th Gen ipod displays the starts making an ominous clicking noise, displays the "sad ipod face" and then starts flashing "battery very low: please wait" then it shuts off the apple icon appears and the whole thing starts over. I've tried to boot it in Disk mode which I managed once right after it happened but I was hesitant to restore because I was at work and would loose all my songs. It then proceeded to freeze and now is stuck back in this infinite loop. I plugged it to two different computers and a car charger and nothing seems to make it charge but it had at least half a charge before it started with this thing. Someone Help Me Please!!!

Here is a pretty comprehensive post about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • Still in infinite loop after recovery.  Battery still won't charge

i I have read several discussions on this issue.  My iPad 2 ,64gb ios 7.1 turned off like the battery died.  I put it back on charger and after a few minutes it booted back up.  The next day the same thing happened. This time it ''twas caught in an infinite loop reboot.  I followed the apple support instruction on enters recovery mode.  I did that successfully but as '"activate your iPad" login screen came up on my MacBook.  The iPad died again. I tried connected charger to Ac charger but it keeps looping.  This time alternating between the battery screen, the apple, the spinning tick marks, then off.  Then it starts over.  I tried recovery again. Same result.  I can't fugure out how to get enough charge to finish recovery. It ha been connected to either the wall or the computer for 6 hours While working on a fix. I have tried the home/power reset multiple times as well as the power/volume up key. I can't seem to just turn it off. It keeps looping. It has never been jail broken. No new app has been added lately except for app updates. But that may have been a week ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am on the road so I can't run it over to apple.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you need a new battery. Do you live near an Apple store? (I think they can replace these things while you wait.) Otherwise, you've got to send it in--that's the HUGE drawback to iPods vs. other digital players that allow the owner to easily replace the battery.
I know if you search online you can get instructions on how to do this yourself--but it's risky, you have to order the battery, and bottom line what are you gaining? You still can't immediately fix your iPod!
I keep a cheap Shuffle on hand for exactly these moments--it fills the need while I wait for the more desired device to return.

  • Apple TV 1st gen stuck in infinite loop

    Hi
This has probably been covered a few times but the only answers I could find was from an archived discussion.
The other day I was given an Apple TV 1st gen, it had not been used for quite some time, and decided to upgrade the software, when I noticed it still had old pictures and music on from the previous user, not wanting to keep these pictures, I decided to reset the machine to factory settings, which it did, but on the restart it was stuck at a loop giving me a code to enter into iTunes, and then resetting and giving me a different code.
i've tried several resets of the settings, holding menu and - together, but still having no joy.
Its never been tampered with, but its really annoying me.
Can anyone help? this is a very old product so figure something might have been done during this time
    Cheers
    Dave

    sounddave,
I have been in the middle of the same problem for months.
I think the problem is with the software version that the older 40GB Apple TV's revert to after the factory restore.  Mine reverted to version 1.0, and that is when the loop started happening.  Since when did a factory restore become a factory paper weight creator!
I read somewhere that the Apple TV looks at an Apple server and the older software doesn't play well with the updated server causing it to keep rebooting.  I'll try to find a link about this if I can find it again.  I remember reading that it happened to a bunch of people with older Apple TV software on a particular day that Apple upgraded their server.
If you don't let your Apple TV connect to the internet, it will stop the infinite loop, but it also means you can't upgrade your software.  I haven't tried it yet, but it also might be an issue with newer versions of iTunes.
I tested this by unplugging my router, and the Apple TV stopped looping.
I tried to fix this before without success, but I am really determined this time.

  • PL/SQL Function in an infinite Loop, how to destroy?

    Hi,
My Apex is using a PL/SQL function and there is an infinite loop. How can I stop it so I can recompile the PL/SQL again? Thanks.

the less obvious is whos session exactly.
I had the same problem - wrong thinking, wrong loop , visible effects of infinitive loop (statistics of the db) . I was trying to kill sessions of the : user , who owns DAD and a user in who's schema runs nasty plsql code - without efect. Kill was confirmed but there was no change. I was made to reboot my server. Probably there is more efective way to do solve this (in my case - I have solved loop-problem after reebot).
Would it be better to kill apache session under OS ? (restart it)
Restart oracle's listner under OS ?
    Some ideas ?

  • Igxprd 32, device driver stuck in an infinite loop

Just attempted to reset a hard drive on our T61 to its factory settings (Windows XP) using the "Recovery CD Set"  (rescue and recovery cd, supplemental product recover cd, and 6 product recovery cd's).  During the final step, the computer reboots itself; however, Windows can't load.  I keep getting an error on a small blue screen, referencing a problem with "igxprd32" and that the device driver got stuck in an infinite loop.  How can I fix this issue.  (Product ID 6465CT0)  Thank you!

Kindly try to boot the system into Safe mode and then uninstall the display driver.
After this you should able too boot the system into normal mode. Download the latest driver from lenovo website

  • BSOD infinite loop problem - Satellite M55

Many people are getting "infinite loop" error with M55 / ATI 200M.
Is there a fix for this? My laptop (purchased in May 2006) is worthless...reboots every 2 minutes. Totally unusable.
There was a post here where the user indicated they found a solution, but the solution was not posted :(
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15169
Please reopen this thread, or post the solution.
If there is a new driver I'm supposed to use, please post the link (as opposed to just saying "use a new driver").
    Thanks.

The error appeared around the August / September 2006 timeframe. If you simply boot up the computer, it will happen with a few minutes, just viewing the desktop, with no applications causing the error.
The computer only has a 90 day warranty. It may have initially occurred within the warranty period, but the Toshiba support rep said it was out of warranty, and they could not help me. The M55 is a relatively inexpensive laptop, so the cost to bring it to a service center is would almost equal the replacement costs. :(
    I installed this Toshiba-provided driver: sm55evideox.exe
    http://www.askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1158 481xml&sliceId=&dialogID=10312729&stateId=0%200%20 10310682
This was the most recent (July 2005) driver I could find for the M55-S1001.
If there is a different driver I should be using, please let me know.
Maybe I have to uninstall & then reinstall drivers? I don't know....
The Display properies show the driver is provided by:
    ATI Technologies
    The error message is thus:
    Blue screen...
"The problem seeems to be caused by the following file: ati2dvag"
    ati2dvag
    Beginning dump of physical memory
If there is more information or details that may be helpful in a fix or diagnosis, please let me know, and I will post it.

  • Cancel Application that is in an infinite loop

How can I cancel the application without rebooting the J2EE-engine?

    Hi,
I didn't try it. Maybe you can stop the application in the Visual admin under Server -> Services -> deploy.
This is just a guess. But maybe it works.

  • Screen Sharing - The Infinite Loop

Not sure if this is a question, maybe more of a "gosh, blimey", but then again maybe it is a known issue that I wasn't aware of.
I had screen sharing running on my MBP, looking at my MP in another room. Then I wandered off and forgot it was still running screen sharing, went intro the room the MP was in and started up Screen Sharing with the MBP and it went into this infinite loop thingy, with ever diminishing pictures of one screen within the other, and just went on doing it -both macs were tied up and completely unusable. I thought I'd have to force reboot them both, but managed to get out of it by pressing the power button on the MP to send it to sleep, then quitting screen sharing on the MBP. I tried to get a screenshot but it wasn't working, got some pictures from my phone's camera though. Very weird. Maybe it's inevitable?

    No one with an idea??
I posted this announcement of Apple in another community, and the answer was: Thats a joke, and it doesnt work! Is this true?
    According to Apple:
    Per-user screen sharing
You can remotely log in to a Mac with any user account on that computer and control it, without interrupting someone else who might be using the computer under a different login.

  • Samba infinite loop - need help

somehow I created an error that causes an infinite loop in Samba. In the log.nmbd file I have more than 1 GB of the following:
    [2006/06/08 16:59:37, 0] /SourceCache/samba/samba-92.15/samba/source/nmbd/nmbd.c:main(668)
    Netbios nameserver version 3.0.10 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1994-2004
    [2006/06/08 16:59:37, 0] /SourceCache/samba/samba-92.15/samba/source/nmbd/nmbd.c:main(687)
standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option
    [2006/06/08 16:59:37, 0] /SourceCache/samba/samba-92.15/samba/source/lib/utilsock.c:open_socketin(724)
    bind failed on port 137 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.
Error = Address already in use
If I turn on Windows file sharing while the Mac is running Samba works fine. But if I reboot with the Windows sharing left on the infinite loop starts at the end of the reboot process. The loop takes up about 50% of CPU but doesn't show up as a process.
Does anybody know what went wrong and how I can fix it?

I also recently installed XCode, not sure, how that would be the cause...
In any case, the nmbd daemon is started even when the system does not act as a name server. The problem goes away, when Windows File Sharing is turned off. But it returns, when it is turned off.
When it is turned off, a flag is set in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/nmbd.plist - it is removed, when file sharing is turned on.
I turned off Windows Filesharing, and copied the nmbd.plist file. Then, I turned it back on. After that, I copied the old nmbd.plist file back into the LaunchDaemons directory. I used the terminal shell to do this (with sudo etc.)
Now I can reboot, and all is fine. However, if I cycle Windows Filesharing from the Preferences panel, the problem will return.
Removing the log file cleared 3GB (!) of disk space.
I wish there was a uniform way of how all the services and daeamons are handled, with the merge of multiple systems, under the hood things seem to be strewn all over the place....

  • Apps won't open :: Infinite loop btw CS6 programs and App. Mgr.

Tried to open the following CS6 apps on MacOS X 10.7.5:
    Indesign - 8.0.2.413
    Photoshop - 13.0.4
    Illustrator  - 15.1.0
And when I do an infinite loop occurs between the apps above TRYING to open, while the Application manager also tries to open (application icons bouncing up and down trying to activate).
None of them actually open (i.e. no dialog box) and the only way to stop it is to force quit my computer.
Had this for about 1 year and it just started happening. Please help!

Found a better description of the problem online:
"When trying to open an Adobe CS6 application, a crashing loop begins. The AAM opens and closes once per second in the Dock, along with the application I was attempting to open.  Because of the constant open and closing of these apps, it's almost impossible to get the mouse or keyboard to focus for enough time to do a force quit on either application, and a hard reboot is usually required to break out of the cycle. I had the entire suite uninstalled and reinstalled, but several weeks later, the issue resurfaced."
I can't even uninstall the programs as the AAM will not even function!!!
