Ipod recognised by windows but not as ipod?

Hi!
I have recently got a shiny new 60gb ipod but can't get it to work on my pc!
Itunes won't recognise it but I can find it listed as removable disk under e drive in my computer...
Can anyone help!?!

Change the drive letter to something higher, like M.

  • IPod recognised by windows, but not appearing in iTunes

My sister recently bought an iPod nano so we have both been using the same computer, different user areas for our iTunes. However, there is some conflict between them somehow as now the iPod is not appearing in iTunes but is appearing as a hard drive.
My iPods an old 20gb one so I'm guessing that's got something to do with it, the iPod software doesn't work for both of them.
I just got a laptop today so I'm copying my music over using the iPod as a hard drive so it's not such a problem for me but I want to sort it out for my sister. How can we make the iPod appear in iTunes?

  • IPod detected by Windows but not by ipod apps; installation freezes

    Hello
As the installation CD felt out of the box I did not read the warning label that I first should install the drivers and then connect the ipod, probably this was a bad idea..
Now I cannot install the iPod nano software. The CD tries to detect the nano, does so and then wants to format it. This format lasts several hours and then reproducibly failes with "an error is occured" and after confirmation with "install script failure" or so.
The downloaded very last version of the updater does only waits for me to detect the nano but does not realize when I actually do it. It just freezes before showing me the serial number (I read that this should happen), so I cannot upgrade
or reformat the nano this way.
A normal nano reset by pressing those buttons until the apple logo comes does have no visible effect.
Rebooting Windows XP, trying to deinstall and reinstall in
    various combinations neither.
When trying to install from the CD without connected nano, it works but itunes then does not recognize it. The list
of running daemons show the ipod service though.
The nano is though recognized by Windows as a USB hard drive and shown in the "my desktop" area as well as in the
    task bar as removable media.
I connected the nano to serveral different USB 2.0 ports on the back of my computer.
    Any idea?
    thanks,

i could do everything fine up until step 6), the installation of itunes. when i tried to, with the ipod updater window still open, it said it could not continue without closing the updater program. any suggestions?

  • TS1363 "iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes" Isn't working!

I've tried all of the things in the "iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes" but none of them work.
I'm on Windows 8 and those are the instrucations I've followed.
The only thing I haven't done is reset my computer to factory mode but that Isn't an option for me cause I got saved games that can't be backed up.
I've literaly tried everything in that help page and it doesn't work.
All I get is the iTouch charging, asking me to trust the computer, I say trust, nothing happens, I check the device manager and it doesn't shw the USB no matter what, I restart the ipod services and the apple software services, nothing happens, I completely take dwn my McAfee firewall and scanning system, it doesn't work, restarting it to make sure no viruses attack, uninstalled Razer Synapsis because it has been a pain in the butt before, that doesn't work, I emptied my Temp file and that didn't work, And in the end the iTouch is charging but not even being see by Itunes and no updates, restarts, reinstallations, uninstallations, checking, researching, and anything else I can do works.
Can someone please explain why apple tech is such a pain when it comes to Windows 8 and how I can fix this without losing 2 years worth of school and saved games?!?!?!?

Try a full teardown as in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates?
A recent poster to forum is suggesting uninstalling WMP from Windows?
Connect the device to a different compuer and back it up there. You should be able to copy off the library to a portable hard drive. See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • IPod is charging and recognised by windows, but not recognised by iTunes.

There was an error message but stupidly I did not read it, and it won't come up again. I've tried restarting my laptop, re-installing iTunes, restarting my iPod and all sorts.
The reason (I think) it stopped working was because I was trying to copy music from my iPod to my iTunes, and windows was not recognising it, so a friend suggested deleting and re installing the driver, which was successful. But when I then went on to iTunes, it came up with the error message saying something about the iPod no longer working with iTunes or something, and now won't recognise the iPod no matter what I seem to try.
Is there anything I can do without deleting all the music and resetting the iPod? Because the whole reason I was trying to do this was to back up the music so I could update to ios 5.1 or whatever it is, without losing all my music which I don't have on iTunes as it's a new laptop.
    Thank you.

    Try here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
It will not delete your library.

  • New ipod recognised by iphoto but not by itunes???? help!!

Hi, I bought my girlfriend a 30gb ipod video for christmas but when i connected it to my ibook, iphoto loads up but itunes does not recognise it as an ipod.
I ve tried the 5 Rs and have downloaded and installed all the recent software updates but still no joy.

    Please can someone help!!

    Peter,
Peter. I had the same problem (only after installing 5.0.1). The only solution I found to work was to uninstall 5.0.1 and install the previous version that came on the packaged disk.
Something I noticed, however, is that you can still download and successfully run the most recent iPod updater software. The 9/23/05 iPod updater release works just fine with iTunes 4.7., but it would not recognize the iPod when running 5.0.1 (iPod service error). There is clearly a commong problem with many Windows users with the 5.0.1 release. Don't know if it's a bad iPod service script or what...but it doesn't work for a lot of users (although I, too, had access to the iPod as an external drive in explorer). Haven't seen anything from Apple on it, though.
Would like to see this fixed, soon!

  • Bug/Solution: iPod seen by Windows but not by iTunes

(apologies if this has already been reported)
So I had the problem where iPod would show up in Windows as a drive letter, but iTunes wouldn't see it at all. I had followed all the instructions in this article to no avail:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
And then I tried something which ended up working. This may be somewhat of an edge case scenario, but it's possible others may hit it:
My OS is installed on the D: drive, instead of normally on C:. Also, there was nothing assigned to C:. So when the iPod was plugged in, Windows gave it C:. As I said, iTunes would not recognize the device at all.
On a whim, I reassigned some other USB device to C: so that the iPod would be forced to a different drive letter (I think it was G). Lo and behold, iTunes recognized the iPod just fine.
I didn't do any other testing on it, but it seems if iPod's drive letter < OS letter, iTunes won't see it(?)
Anyway, hope this helps someone else.<br>
    30gb   Windows XP

Thanks a lot, I must have spent close to 15 hours trying to figure out why my ipod didn't work with my re-installed windows. It turned out my windows was on drive H:, and the ipod was being mounted to drive C:. I switched the ipod to drive I:, and it finally worked! The following instructions may help if your computer sees your ipod in windows explorer (My computer) but not in iTunes, and the ipod is mounted on a drive letter lower than the operating system.
To switch your Ipod to a different drive letter:
    1. Connect your ipod to the desired usb 2.0 port.
    2. Go to the start menu and click "Control Panel".
    3. If you are in "Category view" (check the upper left where it says "Switch to classic view") switch to classic view.
    4. Double-Click "administrative tools".
    5. Double-Click "computer management".
    6. Under "storage" on the left, click "Disk Management", and wait for it to connect to the logical disk managament service.
    7. Your Ipod should show up in "volume" column; RIGHT click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." from the pop-up menu.
    8. Click on the "Change..." button.
    9. Select a different drive letter from the pull down menu. (Pick a drive letter higher than the one your operating system .ie Windows XP.. is installed on. For example if Windows is on drive D:, then pick a drive letter E: or higher.)
    10. Click "Ok"
    11. Click "Yes"
    12. Restart the computer, and see if your Ipod will connect to iTunes!

  • IPOD detected by Windows but NOT iTunes – possible solution

I have a new 30GB Video IPOD with an AMD PC running Windows XP SP2 and like many others posting on this site, my iTunes stopped recognizing my IPOD. ITunes did work correctly immediately after my initial software installation and I was able to sync some music, but it failed thereafter and I was unable to add any more files. Like many other users, I tried all suggested fixes including the 5R’s, uninstalling and re-installing the software, changing selective start-up items using “MSCONFIG”, etc. Nothing worked – until I tried the following…
    1) Uninstall iTunes & IPOD updater software using Windows Add/Remove Software tool in the Start/Settings menu
    2) Reboot Windows
    3) Connect IPOD to USB port (Windows should detect the IPOD)
    4) Run the original IPOD CD installation disk, load the IPOD Updater software (but not iTunes …yet)
    5) The IPOD Updater software loads first, so when prompted to load iTunes, wait (you may minimize the window), go into the IPOD Updater software (Start/Programs menu) and open the IPOD Updater window by clicking on the icon. If your system works like mine, the IPOD should now be recognized and the “RESTORE” button should now be available. Don’t click the “RESTORE” button – just leave this window open (minimize the window if you wish) and go back to the iTunes install window.
    6) Continue with the installation of the iTunes software.
    7) Once installed try opening the iTunes program to see if IPOD is detected (at this point it still didn’t work for me)
    8) With the IPOD still connected, and the IPOD updater window still open, go to Add/Remove Software (Start/Settings) and click on “remove” iTunes – you’ll be prompted to “Repair” or “Remove”. Choose REPAIR. Once this process is complete, try opening iTunes again – at this point my computer now recognized the IPOD

i could do everything fine up until step 6), the installation of itunes. when i tried to, with the ipod updater window still open, it said it could not continue without closing the updater program. any suggestions?

  • IPOD recognized by windows but not updater...can someone help me?

    Hi all,
Any help would be greatly appreciated on this one.
My IPOD's old hard drive (10G) went kaput and I bought a new one (the new HD is 15G). I installed the new one and now windows is recognizing the IPOD as an external hard drive but not as an IPOD.
The IPOD is a 3rd generation, 15 gig IPOD without the dock connector.
I am guessing that this is linked to why the IPOD updater won't recognize the IPOD either.
Does anyone have any device for me?
Again, thanks for taking the time to help out!!

You could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can also work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". It will take a while, but when that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
If you need to, reset the iPod to exit disk mode.

  • IPod works with Windows but not iMac

I have an 80GB iPod Classic that works perfect on my computer running Windows Vista and iTunes 7. I have only ever used it with iTunes.
My iPod's format is FAT32 (Windows). And it's running software Version 1.1.2 and disk use is enabled.
When i try and plug it into an iMac (iMac G5) running OS X 10.3.9 it doesn't work. It doesn't come up as an external drive so I can't access it as an external disk and it fails to work in iTunes.
I have upgraded the Mac to the latest version of iTunes but this still doesn't solve the problem. I tunes gives me the following error "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted...". This is not the case, my iPod is not corrupted.
How can i get my iPod to work on the Mac?

I had the same problem. Your ipod is formated i believe for windows so it wont come up on your mac. to format it you need to plug it into the mac go onto itunes and if you click on the summary page of ipod the only options you will be able to edit on the ipod from the mac are restore or (i dont know exactly) but there should be a button explaining that you need to restore your ipod and format it for mac.
to do this you need to click the button on the summary page on itunes (if you click on your 80G ipod on the left side) but formating for mac deletes everything off the ipod. it wont be able to transfer music etc if you format for mac on your windows but it will now work on the mac.
i hope u understood because i didnt really make it very clear. but if you dont understand just ask and ill be happy to explain it for you.

  • Re: ipod touch 4th gen. iPod appears in windows but not itunes

it works on others computers but not my own. how can i get my itunes to recognise my ipod? i went through the troubleshooting assistant and it still doesn't work

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. A warranty is not necessary.

  • Artwork is shown in iTunes window, but not on iPod Touch

All of my albums' artwork are showing up in the iTunes window, but here in the last few days, some have disappeared from my iPod Touch and some are showing the wrong album cover (wrong artist and all) even though the artist and album name are correct in the info for the song. I have tried syncing it a number of times an it hasn't helped. Can anyone help??

You're probably going to have to restore it to factory settings and sync it again.
There used to be an option not to sync artwork that you could toggle off and on to fix it, but that has been removed.

  • Ipod recognized by windows, but not recognized on itunes

Just got a new nano today and tried it on itunes. The nano is recognized on My Computer, but not on itunes. Tried switching USB drives, running restarts, updates to the newest itunes version, restores on the ipod, even switching connecting cables, but nothing worked. Also, when I try to click on the f: drive in My computer, the entire system goes into non-responding mode. Lastly, when new ipod is plugged in, we get a pop up with a flashlight searching and the words "autoplay", like it's searching for it. All of our other ipods work great on the same computer, just not the new one. We're going to return the new one and try again with another nano.

    Re: Autoplay
    Plug in the iPod.
    Double click My Computer.
Right click on the iPod and select Properties.
    Select the Autoplay tab.
In the drop down box, select "Mixed Content".
Choose "Select an action to perform"
and also select "Take no action".
    Re: Not visible in iTunes
Apparently there can be numerous reason for this, e.g.
    [Faulty iTunes installation]
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
[XP confusing Ipod with network drives]
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
As a last resort you could try and re-format the Ipod manually and then Restore it using the Ipod Updater. I followed this advice myself when installing the Ipod for the first time, when the Ipod would not be recognized by either the Ipod Updater and hence iTunes.
The thread below gives details as to how proceed with formatting the Ipod.

  • Ipod recognized by windows but not seen in explorer or itunes. only charges

I recently had to reimage my hard drive. Once I got everything back to the way it was, I reinstalled iTunes and the iPod software. However, whenever I try to connect my iPod mini to my computer, Windows will recognize it as a new device and get a "Found New Hardware: iPod mini" bubble. Eventually a "Found New Hardware wizard" window pops up and asks me to install the driver. As I've already installed the iPod software I tell it no and the another bubble pops up telling me that there was an error during the install of the driver. All my iPod will do is charge. I've tried the 5 r's, I've tried everything I could find in the support site that sounded even remotely like what I was experiencing. I've gone through the device manager, but my iPod doesn't show up there at all. I don't get the spinning arrow-circle on my iPod. I have absolutely no clue as to what's wrong with it. Any one have any ideas?

    Hello There
Sorry I don't have the answer to your question but I am having excatly the same problems as you have got, also can't find a solution to this either, my ipod has been wiped and have nothing on it at all now and can't get anything from itunes on it. Hope this makes you feel a bit better knowing your not the only one having these problems, if you manage to sort it, please could you let me knwow and vise versa. Many thanks. Jane
