Ipod recognized as a camera in windows, unseen by Itunes.

Ok I made a post a few days ago with no responces so im going to ask the one thing that seems to be my problem. I have done every assist guide on this website and even attempted for force the drives, that should have worked...but my question is about the message my computer gave me.
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."
Do I need to download Itunes 64 bit in order for it to be compatable? Question seems a little obvious. But just in case other people are having this problem and the answer is as simple as that...I thought it should be posted here since I cannot find it.

I'm wondering about this as well. My iphone is not recognized by itunes and i've tried EVERY guide, and every possible suggestion... the only thing I've seen online that I've tried and hasn't worked is the suggestion to update the driver under "portable devices" that automatically installs as "MTP USB device" or something with the usbaapl64.inf driver. That driver works for "apple mobile device usb driver" under usb controllers, but not for that. It complains that the driver is not compatible and to make sure it's designed to work with x64 based systems- which it IS... i'm not sure how others have been able to point it to that driver but it won't work for me.
My itunes recognizes my old ipod nano 2nd gen, but not any iphone 4s...

  • IPod Nano (5g) and cameras no longer appearing in iTunes or iPhoto

I've recently been successfully syncing my iPod nano (5g) with iTunes v9.0.1 and two digital cameras with iPhoto '09 v8.1 - all on OS 10.6.1
However last night my iPod nano was rejected by iTunes (error message I can't remember) and now the cameras are no longer recognised by iPhoto. So when I plug in either the iPod nano or either of the cameras none of them are recognised by iTunes or iPhoto and none of them appear in a Finder window.
I've had a look at the Discussion boards and repeatedly tried rebooting but am still stuck. Also, plugging these peripherals into different USB ports has not made a difference.
Another point which could be related... despite repeated attempts to Shut Down or Restart, each time the Shut Down does not quite complete (even after 10-15 mins) and I need to physically power off the Mac using the power button.
    Any ideas? Thanks,
    Simon

Thanks KT, after following your advice the iPod nano and the two cameras are now visible in iTunes or iPhoto and also in Finder.
The cameras continue to work consistently with iPhoto but since trying to complete a 'Restore' with the iPod nano I've had a string of error messages and it is now no longer useable. I'll be posting for help on this in the iPod discussion forum.

  • Ipod touch showing as camera and not showing in itunes

As I have seen on the community many people are having the same problem as I am. My ipod touch 2nd generation shows up in my computer as a camera (not that it has a camera anyway) but also it will not show up in my itunes library. I have read many of the previous answers and discussions and I have tried uninstalling itunes several times ( all of it itunes, bonjour, quicktime etc ) and reinstalling several times... I have shut down all my firewalls....I have changed start up settings...I even tried trying a secondary comuter thinking it was my computer...but NOTHING has helped this. I have also tried several other programs (such as Wi-Fi Discover ) just so I can try to download some songs for my son but again NOTHING. Can anyone please, please help me. This was a christmas gift for my son and he is so upset that he can not load any songs. Thank you in advance for anyone that can guide me in the right direction.

    - You can try placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if iTunes will see it.  However, that will render the iPod unusable unless you are able th restore via iTunes. For recovery mode see:

    - Next you can try DFU mode with the same warning.

  • My iPod Touch 4G is recognized as a camera in Windows 7 64-bit.

I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes many times. The iPod charges but (maybe because it is recognized as a portable device which is a Digital Camera) iTunes will not recognize it! iTunes won't even open up.
I used to use the iTunes in my Vista but I lost my whole library, but I shall ask the question of how to transfer songs from the iPod to iTunes some other time when the iTunes on my Windows 7 works!
I NEED HELP. WE HAVE BEEN BREAKING OUR HEADS TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!

I have this problem too, but with my 2nd Generation iPod. I completely understand how you must be feeling, but like you, I am banging my head against the wall because I can't fix it either. I've tried everything I can think of.
The weird thing is, my iPod worked fine for about 2 years, and then out of the blue, this happened. And Apple Support refuses to help me. Thanks apple, for taking my money for this thing that won't work, and now not helping me with it. What a lovely bunch of people.
Anyway, if I figure out what's wrong, I will tell you so you can fix your iPod too. I hope that makes you feel a little better.

  • Need help, Ipod Touch being recognized as a camera on Windows XP

Whenever I go to do something with my ipod and pull up My Computer, my iPod is always shown as a digital camera. I looked all around for solutions to this and found one that I think is the solution that I need.  It asks you to pull up device manager and update the driver to usbaapl (under system 32 or Mobile Device Support) but when i go to click on the file "usbaapl.inf" it says it cannot find a better driver than the one previously installed.  The file i previously mentioned is only a setup information file, which has me concerned as to the underlying problem, but there are no other choices (the .dll and .sys) listed at all.  I have the latest version of iTunes (just reinstalled it yesterday) and my iPod software is up to date. Someone please help me!!!

Try everthing here. I would start with remiving and reinstalling all the Apple software using the link in the following.

  • Ipod recognized as a camera, please help

I have seen many similar problems that people have had, let me list everything I have tried so far.
Re-installed Itunes as told to by uninstalling every part of it (didnt work)
updated my driver for my "Apple mobile device USB driver" as told here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 however when I tried to reset the Ipod Touch driver the file was NOT compatable...
This problem only exists with my new computer, my old one will synce right up with my ipod with no problems. New one only has windows read it as a digital camera and Itunes not even notice it...I would really like some help, I have been searching around for the past 2 days with no success.
Also my Ipod touch is being registered as a "MTB USB device" by windows, thats the only driver it will allow me to use for it.

That's perfectly normal. My computer does tht all the time. The window's driver recognizes the camera part and the DCIM folder holding the photos and videos as a camera.
You can use it as a way to pull photos off without going through iTunes, or just close the window nad ignore it.

  • My ipod touch is not recognised by windows 8 or itunes

Help!!!  My ipod touch has now stopped working on Windows 8 and in itunes.  It does not even recognise it when I connect it.  My Nano shuffle still works fine!!

    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The iPod touch use additional drivers than the Nano.

  • New Ipod touch won't sync with window's vista/itunes 9.2 - help!!

I charged my brand new ipod touch via my computer, have it plugged it into my computer's USB port, and Itunes acknowledges the device in the left hand menu BUT it automatically says "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. The network connection has timed out". The ipod will not sync with my itunes! I tried connection/disconnecting, turning the ipod on and off, and restarting the computer. No luck. What do I need to do? Please help, I was so excited to get the new ipod and now I can't use it! I have window's vista and I don't know anything about how to check or change computer settings that might be preventing the store from opening (it used to open, but I haven't tried in a while and I just downloaded version 9.2 today).

  • IPod Touch not being recognised in Windows XP or iTunes - HELP!!!!!

    Hi.
I have just bought a 16gb iPod Touch which I am trying to use on Windows XP.
When I connect the iPod to my PC it brings up the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' but does not open up iTunes.
On the Hardware Wizard it trys to search for the driver but cannot locate it, whenever it tries to search it comes back saying "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot locate the necessary software".
I have uninstalled iTunes, Apple Software Updater and Apple Mobile Device Support, and then reinstalled these with iTunes V7.5, but can't get anything to work so that my iPod comes up in iTunes.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!! Thanks.

Hi, sounds like me and CJ2000 are having exactly the same problem!
I've gone through all of the suggested fixes, and spent 78 minutes on the phone to Apple Care last night but still not working.
But, I just tried it with my friends PC and it worked fine, so its definitely a PC issue. What I noticed was that when I plugged it into the other PC it brought up a bubble saying "found new hardware", but then straight away found the USB Driver without needing the "Found New Hardware Wizard". iTunes then opened up automatically.
It seems that my PC seems to have problems locating the USB Driver for the Touch, any suggestions?
    Thanks very much.

  • Ipod classic will not sync from window 8.1 itunes

    Hi CCam51,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you purchased a new iPod and want to sync your music from your Windows computer to it. It sounds like the sync settings may not be correct if your music is not syncing over. Please use the following article as a reference to help you get your music synced to the iPod.

  • IPhone 3G not show as Camera in windows explorer, but iTunes works?!

Every time I connect my iPhone, I get the New Found Hardware wizard which always fails to setup my device properly. The device does not show up in My Computer as a camera like it is supposed to. However, iTunes opens and syncs just fine with it. When I go to my windows hardware device manager it shows up "iPhone" but with the yellow exclamation point indicating a problem.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and updating my chipset drivers (Nvidia nforce2). I have also tried uninstalling the iPhone device from the Hardware Device Manager window, then plugging the phone back in.
    Nothing seems to work.
    Any Ideas?

When you have pictures stored on you iPhone you'll get this message upon plugging it in to your computer. Windows is trying to access it like it would any other digital camera. Just ignore it and use iTunes.
