IPod recognized as Nintendo USB device

A lot of the time when I connect my iPod to my computer it doesn't show up in iTunes. When I connect it, the found new hardware thing pops up and says it found my Nintendo WiFi USB device.

Disconnect all other USB Devices except for the iPod, keyboard and mouse before you change the drive letter. Try M or P, or Z if you are on a network.

  • IPod is not even recognized as a usb device

My problem is that when I connect ipod to my PC, both devices stays as nothing happened. Even ipod wont charge. But its working fine with my laptop with the same cable. My PC is working fine with other usb devices i have such as pendrive, my blackberry etc. I have no other problems with my ipod. I tried connecting to other USB ports, restarting the PC, tried reinstalling the itunes and all other small apps installed with itunes like apple softwaree updater etc. But nothing works. Its not even shown on the 'Device Manager' under Universal Serial Bus Controllers list. What should I do to resolve this issue? I have Windows 7 PC with Core i3 and DH55 series motherboard. I have no optical drive.

I seem to be having the same problem. I searched all the posts from the discussions and havent found a solution that works for me. My iTouch, out of the blue, decided it didnt want anymore songs, my PC no longer recognized the USB device. So, I didnt mind losing any of the songs on it when I restored it, got backups, but still cannot connect to iTunes.
Figured it was a software problem on my PC. Got back ups? Restored my PC off a mirror image, downloaded, and reinstalled iTunes. Great! It works! iTunes is detecting it, iPod screen changes from wire connect to iTunes to Mac apple, iTunes detects a iTouch, but it must be restored befor iTunes can sync it. No biggie, did it once, dont mind doing it again.
Clicked restore... Extracting files... Preparing iPod for restoring. iPod screen changes from Mac apple to Mac apple with loading bar for restoring. PC makes "duh dong" noise as if USB device has been removed. iTunes still says, "Prepairing iPod for restore."
Good minute goes by, iPod returns to wire connect to iTunes, and iTunes says unable to restore iPod due to unknown error... Great. Now my PC is back to unable to recognize USB device.
Please help! I tried all solutions on the posts from reinstalling driver to blocking auto startup for iPods. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod re-syncs on USB device connecting or disconnecting

    Hi All,
Having a strange issue with my iPod 2G. It connects and syncs with no problems, then I shut iTunes but leave the iPod in the dock to charge. Whenever I connect or disconnect a different USB device though, iTunes re-opens and the iPod re-syncs.
Not an overly bad problem in itself but a little tedious to keep having to eject it again.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

  • Freezing iPod combined with unrecognized USB device combo... Worst yet?

    Hey Everyone,
I'm using a 5G 30Gb iPod, or at least I was... It was working fine for a couple of ways, untill yesterday I did the following 3 things:
-Updated Adobe with that photo stuff
    -Used an usb Memory stick
-Charged it with a Logic3 AC adapter
I have no if these are the trouble makers, but the usb stick is my main suspect. Since I did these things, my iPod shows the following behaviour:
-When connected to computer, shows the "do not disconnect" for about 30sec.
-After that, the computer starts seeing a "usb storage device".
-At the same time the computers starts seeing the iPod, the iPod freezes.
Due to this crashing, I can't format it or change the drive letter indication. I've tried everything I could think off, including:
    -5R's
-Uninstalling iTunes + iPod software completely
-Installing from the disk, or the latest updates
-Tried to install those usbstor.sys/inf, but it says "best drivers already installed".
-Rebooting over a 100 times (at least that's how it feels now).
Well I guess that was about all, but I've tried it numerous times..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ingmar

Wow, I've just had a nightmare experience with Apple and their so called "genius" bar at their store. After at least 10 combined hours of trial and error, on the phone with Apple Care & time spent at the genius bar, turns out (and this is just what I am presuming based on the evidence) that this 5th Gen IPOD won't necessarily work with your existing 2.0 USB port. The USB port has to be "WHQL" certified. My IOGear USB card isn't WHQL certified. I found this out by going to IOGear's website and reading the FAQs about my card. I suggest you do the same ... like go to the USB card's manufacturer's site and read about it. I'm sure there will be something about errors with IPODs ... it might tell you that this card is not compatible (as it did with me). So .. I have two choices now :
    1) Use my IPOD with the slow 1.1 USB link (not going to be happy with that )
    2) Buy a new "compatible" card. (also not the happiest about it)
Below are two cards Apple Care says will work for sure:
    1) OrangeMicro Model # 70USB90011
    2) Belkin Model # F5U219
    Last but not least ...
Why does Apple not know of this?!!! Why do I have to figure all of this out myself?

This did not work for me. I have a laptop that was running Windows XP, and it had no problems recognizing the iPod. I was having problems with XP, and rather then reinstall XP, I did a clean install of Vista. I did a settings transfer, so the new install of iTunes came already configured--I mention this since I don't know if it was a factor.
When I plugged in the iPod, I got the USB Device Not Recognized. The usbstor.inf file did not fix the problem. However, the solution at http://www.winvistabeta.com/groups/275128/ipod-usb-device-not-recognized/message .aspx did fix the problem. Do this:
    Reset the iPod:
    1. Unplug the iPod.
    2. Turn the hold switch to HOLD and then back to off.
    3. Hold the Center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds until you get the Apple logo when you release them.
    4. Plug in the iPod. It should now be recognized.
This worked fine for me the first time. Thanks! Jack

  • 2G Nano-USB Device Not Recognized message

2G Nano has been sitting for months. Decided to use it as a backup. When connected to computer (tried on 4 different computers running iTunes) I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" message. It shows up in "Device Manager" as an "Unknown USB Device" not an "iPod". Have performed the required 5 Rs and it still will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Solution for XP not recognizing USB device ...

Hope this helps ... here's how I got my XP machine to recognize the IPod.
    1) Un-installed all the software (not sure if this was critical, but it is part of the order of events I followed).
    2) Next, I unplugged the IPod from my desktop and unplugged the USB cable from the IPod. Then --- I plugged the USB cable into my desktop FIRST and then plugged it into the IPod.
TBy plugging in the USB to the desktop first, I seemed to jiggle XP into recognizing the IPod. Now I can just connect and disconnect the IPod like any other USB device.

I had the same problem. Try this. If you've recently done the uninstall/reinstall software phase, don't bother again. The problem, at least for me was NOT the computer, it was the nano.
Reset the nano. Push the hold button till you see orange and then back again, lay it on the table and press the center of the circle (select) and the Menu at the same time, hold it 6 to 10 seconds until you see the apple.
Then, plug your cable into the computer first, wait a minute, then plug it into the apple and WAIT (if you are so inclined, this is a good time to say a quick prayer).
It worked for me, hope it works for you.

  • Satellite L30: Usb device not is recognized

I have a problem with my L30 laptop.
When I'm connecting my phone or usb stick or external hdd it says: Usb device not recognized one of usb devices has malfunctioned.
Tried to reinstall windows didn't help...
    is there any solution?

    Hi
Hmm. You should firstly disconnect all USB external devices.
Then go to the device manger and remove all USB root hubs and USB host controllers.
    Then reboot the notebook.
After this procedure the OS should recognize and should install the ports again.
Now you could connect some plug-and play devices. These devices should be recognized automatically. But some external USB devices need additional drivers.
Generally such drivers are delivered together with the USB device.
I would recommend checking this if necessary!

  • My ipod nano. when connected to a computer doesn't appear as an ipod but a USB device instead. Please help.

Please help me! I badly want to transfer my videos to my computer but it won't appear as an ipod nano but a usb device instead. So I can't see the DMIC folder. I only see 'Recordings', 'Recylcler', and other folders but I can't see the DMIC folder. And yes, I already enabled it to disk use, but it still won't appear. Please help.

What generation iPod Nano do you have?  I assume the Enable Disk Use option is ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?
If it's a 5G Nano, have you seen this article to help walk you through the process of copying these recorded videos to your PC.

  • USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no

During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks
