IPod Refuses To Sync Video

Hey, I have a 5th Generation iPod nano, roughly 8 gigs. I recently downloaded a video and iTunes is refusing to sync it. JUST that one video, I DO NOT need to convery the video, it's an .mp4. I can't figure out what's going on, it plays fine in iTunes, but when I try to sync it I get an error "Video cannot be synced because the iPod cannot play it" (paraphrased).
Help?

Sounds like you are trying to sync HD version of the TV Shows to your iPod, which is not supported. You'll need to download and sync the SD version instead.  See here for more information.
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
To prevent HD versions from being downloaded in the future head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link, and then select TV Shows and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available.  You should be able to download the SD version now from under this same page.

  • 5th Generation iPod won't sync video, says "format not supported"

My 5th gen iPod has stopped syncing video that formerly was happily synced, including a TV show I bought in iTunes. Only one video, a movie I converted in Handbrake, still syncs.
    Anybody got any ideas?

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder.  If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application.  Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

  • Ipod no longer syncs video. Why?

On the 20th July 2011 I updated to itunes 10.4, ever since then I have been unable to sync videos to my ipod. the program I use to convert videos has not changed. The video format has not changed. Aside from total size and length the videos are identical to each other only the ones transferred before this update are on the ipod, and any I attempt to transfer since do not.
    Why?
There is no logical reason behind this, it is infuriating. All I get is a message telling me "cannot sync video to ipod as it is unable to be played on this ipod.". is there a way to get further information from this message? Is it possible for it to tell me the exact reason it refuses to transfer the file? that would be lovely.
All I want for Christmas is my videos on my ipod.

Video format has not changed, aside from total size and length?
iPod has lower H264 format, up to 1.5mps 640x480.
iPod can play the following video formats:
    * H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Low-Complexity Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    * H.264 video, up to 768 kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    * MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
When you convert, go for the lower quality iPod format if you want to play it on iPod, else the new iTunes will convert to higher format of 1080p  for iPhones, iPad
    Good Luck!

OK, if restoring isn't cutting it then let's start by checking the health of the drive...
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.
If the drive checks out OK then perhaps something else is interfering with communications between iTunes and the iPod. A few things to try out...
    - Change the the drive letter assigned to the iPod on connection.
    - Exclude the iPod's drive & the iTunes source folder from anti-virus scanning.
    - Check the health of the drive holding the media.
    - Try a different cable.
    - Try a different computer.

  • My iPod won't sync videos, photos, restore....

I got a 30gb iPod video (5G) and the latest iTunes installed. I managed to sync all my music into the ipod but when i tried to sync some videos (already on mpg4 format), after like 2 minutes of waiting, i get the following error: "The iPod 'username's iPod' cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." I tried re-installing iTunes, and restoring iPod to factory's settings but with no success. Instead I get an unknown (1418) error, after some time in the "Restoring 'username's iPod" status bar. What is happening?

I am having the same issue. I have the latest iTunes version and can't Sync my photos. I can't remove the photos on the iPod and can't add new ones. I get the same message about unable to Sync because it can't find the folder yet iTunes lists the selected folder and knows how many photos are in it. I've tried everything short of restoring the ipod. I don't want to have to load all the songs back on there if I can avoid it. Any suggestions?

  • My iPod refuses to sync some music downloaded from iTunes because my computer is "not authorized", although I have authorized it.

I have recently got a new computer, and decided to transfer my iTunes from my iPod (for I had to delete my music off my father's iTunes to conserve memory). I copied the files from my iPod onto my new iTunes account. When I synced my iPod with my iTunes, it refused to sync some songs which  I had downloaded off iTunes onto my new iPod, for it says my computer is not authoraiazed, even though I have alredy authorized my computer. Wht should I do?

  • Ipod Not Completely Syncing Video

I have searched the boards and can't find the answer to this dilemma.
I have a 30gb video ipod. Recently I noticed that most of my video files were not listed in the ipod anymore. In fact, only 3 remain of the 30 in my itunes library on my pc.
I have tried syncing, but no luck. It still only moves the same three videos over. I have even tried restoring my ipod to the factory settings and then syncing - but still, only the same three videos make the transfer in the auto sync. I am up to date on my software.
    What is going on here?

Connect your iPod, select it in iTunes and check the page for syncing. Uncheck the box that says remove previously viewed episodes.

  • HELP! iPod refuses to sync to iTunes until I restore it?

I have a second-hand iPod touch 3G, I have owned iit for 6 months, never had an issue before this.
OK, so I have two laptops at the moment, one provided by my Disabled Student Allowance for univeristy, which I have with me here, and my 'baby' which is my personal laptop at home. My iPod is synced to that iTubes library, but I have another on this one, most of it is music tranferred from across the two computers and burned music. BUT I have a great deal of suff on my iPod that I purchased through iTunes on my iPod, and I don't think I synched all of it to iTunes, because some of it was purchased here away from home because I can't sync this library with my iPod. I have audiobooks, music, a movie and apps.
onight I was playing Fruit Ninja and I noticed the sound wasn't working, only the background music, so I did what I normally do and reset it by holding down the centre and hold buttons until it restarts. Nromally it's fine, but this time it decided to come up with the image of the iTunes logo and cable and when I plug it in it tells me I have to restore it before it will sync with iTunes.
Does this mean that I am going to lose about £60 worth of stuff or is there some way of sorting this out (bear in mind that I am plugging it into a computer that it is not synced with? Is there some kind of purchase history on iTunes where I can get a list of things I bought so I can re-download them or do I have to spend another £60 (some was a voucher I got for Christmas). Please say there is a way this can be sorted without me losing my apps, music and videos and audiobooks I downloaded. PLEASE!
I do have n iStore in my hometown and I am going home this weekend so I can try to sync it with my home pc.

  • IPod refuses to sync on iTunes 9.0.1

Every time I try syncing my music, the process will hang a quarter of the way. When it hangs, I'm unable to cancel the sync process. This forces me to quit iTunes, which often results in an inability to relaunch iTunes unless I restart the computer.
As you can imagine, I'm extremely frustrated.
It seems the only way I can add music to this iPod is to manually add about 100-200 songs at a time. Frankly, this will take forever on a 60gb iPod. This was happening just before I upgraded to 9.0.1--suffice to say, I'm disappointed that this version hasn't found a fix for this problem.
Apple--can you give us some indication you're working on this problem?

Re install iTunes 8 as that has worked for me. iTunes 9 caused me major problems and the Genius bar even thought my iPod hard drive was history but going back to 8 solved all my problems.

  • IPod refuses to sync because its "full"

I am trying to sync my iPod (currently at 32 gb full) to my new iTunes library (around 18 gb). Whenever I try, it tells me I don't have enough space, even though I have a lot less on it than I did before. How do I fix it?

Check you sync settings. Maybe you are trying to sync more than you think.
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • IPod refuses to sync

I accidently deleted all of my music off my iPod. So, I tried to get all of my songs back onto it. It connects fine, and starts syncing. Then, when it gets to a song (a different one everytime I try to sync), my iPod starts to physically make a grinding noise for about a minute. Finally, a box pops up that says "The iPod (my name) cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." And then it says the sync is finished. When I look at my iPod, only four of the songs appear.
I do not know if this problem has to do with the iPod itself or iTunes. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to fix this frustrating problem, I would greatly appreciate it! Thankyou!

You could try transferring the music from your iPod back to the computer first of all. There are various ways of doing this, these are for a Windows computer (since you don't tell us what you have).
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
Once the music is back from the iPod and in your new iTunes library, you can sync the iPod as normal.
If you see any message about replacing the library on your iPod with your new iTunes, click 'yes'.
Do not do that until the music is safely in iTunes.

  • My ipod refuses to sync or download any music.

This has been going on for about 4 months now and I am getting really frustrated. I have clicked and unclicked every box in the itunes to ipod sync tab (from the "manually manage" box to the "Sync music" tab). When I try to download songs to my ipod using these methods, itunes will say "syncing with ipod" for a split second and stop; no music added and nothing happens to my ipod. I can dowload things fine off the itunes store on my ipod, but all of the music on my itunes is stuck. I went as far as to restore my ipod twice but nothing seems to work. everything is updated and the ipod is a 4th generation. I don't really know of any other info to give but if you need more just ask for specifics.
If someone could please help me I would be so greatful. Thanks.
