Ipod replacement question (plz help)

hello, I was just curious, do you think apple has any 4g not color (I know its wrong)+ hp ipods left?
I just sent mine in (sad ipod face) and they are sending me a new ipod. will a get a color screen4g, or a 5g?
thanks.

While I don't know the exact story on current HP iPod inventory, I do know that when I recently sent in my 4G 20GB for replacement, I was sent the same model back. So, apparently, they still have a few of the regular (read, non-HP), non-color 4G iPods left for replacement purposes. But that may no longer be the case in 6 months.
So it's a good thing we have Apple Care on that unit in case it breaks down again in the next year. We might be able to get a 20GB Photo as a replacement!

Please have a read the following, very likely your iPod can be solved by connecting it with a Mac computer
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Ipod wont restore plz help!!!

well after watching a few music videos on a road trip i turned off my ipod. Then the next day i turn it on and is says
"connect to your computer use itunes to restore"
so i do that and after it restores it says the same thing again and again and again it just keeps going through the same process i restore it then it says it has to be restored again? can someone plz help.

Some folks have had success from recovery mode loops by reformatting the iPod to FAT32, followed by a restore in iTunes, through Windows Explorer:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - When iTunes has finished syncing with your iPod, open "My Computer".
3 - Right-click on your iPod, and click on "Format". (If your iPod is not showing in My Computer, make sure that disk use isn’t enabled in iTunes).
4 - Here, verify that your formatting settings are "Default", with the format type set for FAT32. Also, make sure that "Quick Scan" is not selected.
5 - Then, click on "OK" to begin the formatting process.
6 - When this is complete (it might take a while), make sure to restore your iPod in iTunes again, so as to properly reload the firmware back onto it again.

  • Question: plz help in this

    hi,
in XI how we will maintain for a perticular file for example at a particular time.like the poll interval if maintained at 30sec the porocessor will check the record for every 30sec but if we want to schedule at 12:00 every day to check for the record then how can we do that.
if there is any code that need to be written plz provide code or if any steps involved plz explain in detail
    byeee

    Hi Anshul
Simple. Set the polling interval value as Example ((  86400 (12460*60) )) and activate the channel at 6 PM.
Another option : Use availablity timings and set the timing for the sender communication channel from 6 PM to 6:30 PM every day and in the cc give the polling interval value larger than 1800 (may be 2000).
just check this blog.. it talks about the same
    /people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/11/26/adapter-scheduling--hail-sp-19-
In your query you can use datepart() function to check the time is 6p.m or not
i.e in your Query add this where clause....
    where datepart(hh,getdate()) = '18'

  • Big ipod-problem/question, need help!!! PLEASE!!!

1.) I was transfering songs onto my 20 GB clickwheel ipod
2.) Itunes hung up, first time.
3.) I plugged the ipod out
4.) next time i plugged it in, nothing worked, and everything on my ipod was GONE!
5.) Now i don't have any songs on it, i have tried resetting, new ports and the normal thing
6.) the songs ARE there, because both the on my computer, and on the ipod it shows that alot of GB's are used!!
    Please help!!!

It would appear that the iPod hard drive has become corrupt and unreadable. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod reports used space and iTunes may show them.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.

  • Ipod got wet plz help

yeah i sprayed my ipod with alil bit of water to get something off of it and thenit didnt work it wtill works on the computer and with my ihome but with earphones it doesnt work and the screen has gone blank so i dont know what i'm clickingif u have any ideas plz help

Yeah dont connect it to anything electrical since it is wet! Lie it on a towel with controls face down. Then let it sit for a few weeks for it to dry. THen after this time it may be back to some norm. But likely it will be damaged for good because you got it wet. Also getting your ipod wet is not covered in the warranty.

  • Defective iPod replacement question

Will Apple replace a defective 60 GB iPod Photo (now an outdated model) with a 60 GB iPod Video?

Do you have an extended warranty? I would doubt they would replace it outside of any warranty regardless of model.

  • IPod Replacement Question

So today I dropped my 6th gen iPod nano and the screen cracked in the lower left corner. The 6th gen is pretty tiny so the crack extends almost across the entirety of the screen. It's fully functional but it still bothers me because I'm paranoid about handling it at all now (lest it break entirely). I have an old 1st gen nano which I know would be eligible for the recently started replacement program (mail in your nano, receive a new one). What I need to know is whether or not I'd be getting another 1st gen back or a new 6th gen.
I ask because it appears the original program was meant to replace the faulty 1st gen nanos with new ones which wouldn't blow up, but then people started getting 6th gen nanos in the mail after sending in their 1st gen. I'll gladly mail in my 1st gen (which I never use) to receive a 6th gen in return which can replace my cracked one. Does anyone know whether or not they're sending out 6th of 1st gens, if I can notify them as to which I want, or if it's just luck of the draw?
    Thank you in advance.

You get a silver 6th Generation 8GB Nano. No accessories, just the Nano.

  • Multiple iPod User Question, PLEASE HELP!

I already own a 30GB iPod Video which is updated to 1.1 on my Mac. I purchased a 30GB iPod Video for my wife for Valentine's Day. It will need to be formatted. What do I have to do to get her new iPod updated to 1.1. Also, do I need to update it to 1.0 first before updating to 1.1, how does this work??? If it updates to 1.1 from the start am I losing precious update info from 1.0 or will that be on the 1.1 update as well? Please help!

All 5th Gen iPods come with at least the 1.0 firmware. There is nothing earlier, you you won't br "missing out" on anything.
To update the new iPod from 1.0 to 1.1, just run the latest iPod Updater utility on your Mac. It should be in your Applications > Utilities folder.

  • 2 ipod trouble's PLZ HELP

Im having a couple problems lately. First it started with my ipod making funny sounds NOT from the headphones but from the ipod itself. it makes the clicking noises and some others i cant discribe and while its making those sounds my song freezes and jumps a random number of songs or scrolls through many quickly. It usually starts at the beggining of a song when it naturally goes to it and when i click next song.
Second, My ipod freezes when i connect it to my computer, it says its connected by it doesnt connect to I-tunes and when i reset it using the hold+menu, center button it instantly connects and im worried that if i do that to many times it will ruin it.
Ive tried restoring the settings as well as all the other advice apple.com gives and non of it has solved any problems, there was even a time when whenever i started it it would go straight the red x and nothing could help it so i left it for a week and came back and it was fine

    I wrote everything up ^

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
Putting the card's balance back onto it and then to the new one also requires contacting Apple.

<b>2)How to add a gui status in a selection screen?can u explain with simple

The GUI status of a selection screen is generated by the system. The SET PF-STATUS statement in the PBO event of the selection screen has no effect on the standard GUI status. If you want to use your own GUI status for a selection screen or deactivate functions in the standard GUI status, you can use one of the following function modules in the PBO event of the selection screen:
    RS_SET_SELSCREEN_STATUS
Sets another GUI status defined in the same ABAP program, or deactivates functions of the standard GUI status.
    RS_EXTERNAL_SELSCREEN_STATUS
Sets a GUI status defined in an external function group. You must use the SET PF-STATUS statement to set the status in a special function module in this function group. You must pass the name of the function module that sets the status as a parameter to the function module RS_EXTERNAL_SELSCREEN_STATUS.

  • 1st gen ipod touch problem. plz help

hey guys, for awhile now, my itouch been dead. last year in feb, i accidently spilled some water on my itouch and it died. acouple months later, it came back to life and been working like new ever since as if nothing ever happen. now it recently just died again. i dnt know whats wrong with it. ill try to charge it on my ihome or with the wall charger and nothing. i try connecting it to the comp but nothng happens aswell. even if i hold on the home and the top button, it does nothing. but wen im charging it, and holding the home and top button, the apple icon comes on the screen and thats it. after that it dies again. do you guys have anything idea whats wrong with my itouch? would it be that the battery is dead or could something have been burnt on the inside.

Troubleshooting iTouch hardware issues is difficult unless you can open up the case and an expert manages the diagnosis and repair. Especially after potential water damage, which seems likely.
You have several options. You can contact Apple, and they will be able to determine the repairs and probable cost. Personally, I've had very good luck with http://www.ipodjuice.com/apple-ipod-touch-repair.htm, thanks to their reasonable prices and good results. But there's very little that you can do yourself, regrettably.
