  • Why did my iPod  reset itself when I was trying to watch a video?

    Hi Everyone,
I was watching a video on my ipod and I got halfway through the video and the Ipod reset itself. My iPod is okay after it reset itself. I was wondering has this happened to anyone else and what can I do to fix it?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    lizabler

    Hey lizabler!
I personally haven't experiened this specific thing myself, by I have certainly read issues like your quite a few times on the Discussions.
When your iPod resets itself in this kind of case, this happens usually because, while you're playing a video on your iPod, it's not being able to continuouly load and play that video fast enough to actually play the video at a normal speed.
This can be caused by the iPod's battery.
How charged/discharged was your iPod around the time when your iPod reset itself? Try letting your iPod's battery fully die, then let it recharge for a full 3 hours, and see if this ever happens again.
Also, if this ever happens again, have you tried resetting your iPod several times? (holding the "Menu" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds)
Sometimes your iPod resetting itself can also be caused by your iPod's memory being highly used. For example, if you have a 60 GB iPod, and you've used up 54 GB of it already, this can sometimes somehow bog up the iPod, causing it to act strangely.
If this iPod-resetting-itself behavior recurrs, and resetting the iPod several times doesn't help, try restoring your iPod to factory settings -> How to restore your iPod
I hope that info helps you.

  • IPod resets itself playing .m4a's (music ripped from cd's)

My new ipod video works fine playing mp3's or music from itunes store, but resets itself any time i try to listen to a song from a cd. these songs all have the .m4a file extension. what can i do to fix this?

Here is my 'tech/test report' for the day:
I plugged in the iPod to my work computer, same as yesterday. No songs in library, etc, etc.
Using the iPod as the song file source, and playing the songs using iTunes as the controlling interface, this thing played all day, hour after hour, with no resets, no issues of any type.
After ejecting the iPod and playing it on the way home, I was able to get approximately one (1) hour of play time before the iPod went into the 'AUTO-RESET' mode, by rebooting itself with no contact.
I believe we state with a high level of assurance the issue is neither MECHANICAL (i.e. a bad or tempermental hard-drive) or due to bad files. The iPod did what it was supposed to do for hours when using an external (i.e. Workstation) user interface (iTunes). Although possible, I still doubt the RESET issue stems from a battery/power triggered event.
I tend to believe the issue lies somewhere within the UI or OS on the unit itself. Perhaps some memory cache that fails to clear and eventually fills and forces a reset?
    Still searching for THE solution...
Ps: I WILL NOT BE UPGRADING TO 1.1.1 ... those issues look REALLY UGLY!!! Atleast I still get to listen to SOME songs before it bites the dust!

  • 60G iPod 'Resets' itself sporadically... What's Up with that?

I have a 60G iPod that has about 2800 songs loaded (+ about a dozen jpg images). Loaded from a WIN2K based PC using iTunes 6.0.4.2 and the latest iPod Update software.
When playing, the unit will sporadically 'Reset' itself (Run through shutdown/startup while displaying the Apple Logo) with no button pushes or any other contact. It's to the point now where it is never a matter of "IF" it will do it, simply a matter of "WHEN" or "HOW SOON" it will occur... very, very frustrating!!! Sometimes I can run about 30-45 minutes before it happens, sometimes it happens on the second or third song (5 or 10 minutes).
I have Reset the iPod, Upgraded the iPod to the latest OS, Reinstalled OS and consistently upgraded to the newest iTunes version, and Restored the iPod to factory level Zero and then reloaded all 2700+ songs and 13 photos... no changes... still dumps whenever it decides to.
Oh yeah... it sits in a BOSE dock, charging every night so the power should be adequate.
Any ideas or insights from ANYONE? Thanks in Advance for your reply/response!!!
I'm getting exceedingly frustrated, especially when I see my wife's 30G operate absolutely fine. Don't know if song count makes any difference but she doesn't has barely begun to load any real quantity of material yet...

  • Ipod resets itself?

I've had my ipod for almost a year, and ever since I got it, it would reset itself/turn off for no reason at all. The screen fades away very slowly and when I turn it back on the time is reset to 12am but all my music and playlists are still there. This happens randomly and I can't seem to figure out why it is doing it. Is this normal? Is something wrong with my ipod, because it's very annoying.
    Dell   Windows XP

it's not normal that it resets itself.
if your ipod is running 1.1 you can try resetting it to 1.0. A lot of people have been having trouble with 1.1.
    good luck

  • IPod reset itself when I tried to rewind or forward the video

My 3-week-old ipod video has problem now when playing video. When I tried to rewind or foward the video (44mins, 301MB), the ipod screen suddenly turned black and the apple logo appeared at the middle (I think the ipod has reset itself). Anybody can help me to solve this problem?

Firmware? I heard the newest firmware had problems, also i would try restoring the iPod or converting it with something else. Never heard of Jodix, make sure it is converting the file to iPod standards.

  • Ipod resetting itself frequently?

    Hi again,
Most of the time I power on my Ipod it resets itself. When I press play there is no response from the Ipod. I have to press the middle white button and the Ipod power on. The Apple logo then display on the screen.
It is quite a pain because it "forgets" the last song I listened. I need to look search again in my playlists.
I noticed that this behaviour happens when I leave the ipod for one day without powering it.
    Is it normal?
    thx for ya help

that's normal behavior for an ipod , just look at this article and it will explain it

  • IPod resets itself while trying to play certain songs.

For no specific reason, this has only happened so far with audio from my "Comedy" playlist. Either this is coincidental or my iPod lacks a sense of humor. Please let it be the former.
Anyway, when this occurs it takes me to the silvery Apple logo screen and the iPod resets. However, it only happens when I start to play the file. If I go through the list hitting the next button while on pause, there's no problem.
    Two questions:
    1) Has anyone else encountered this?
    2) Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to correct it?
As a side note, this also happened with my old monochromatic 20GB 4G iPod, but that issue was more randomly initiated, and was probably due to its failing battery.
30GB 5G iPod Video, the newer model   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This has been asked and answered a couple of times and I think that the same answer should help you out.
Seems like you're a victim of the 1.2 firmware bug. It's causing mp3 mono tracks (which I could very much believe some comedy routines would be encoded as) to reset your iPod. the only workaround at the moment seems to be to set your EQ to OFF (under Settings > EQ > OFF). That seems to work for some people.
Your other option is to try and reencode your tracks so they're not mono-mp3.
    I hope that helped. =)

  • Ipod reset itself,      help!

My ipod has been acting up recently. First it froze and wouldn't allow me to change screens so I just let it sit hoping it would fix itself (the ipod was at full charge when this happened). The next time I tried to use my ipod, the battery was completely empty, but I had used it since it froze. So I charged up my ipod and hoped that I would soon be able to enjoy my music. Much to my disappointment, when I turned on my ipod, I was presented with a language select screen. I selected English and then I came to the usual main screen. However, all my music, pictures, and videos were gone. I don't know how or why this happened. Can osmeone please help? I haven't touched my ipod since. I don't want to resync and have this happen again, so what do I do from here?

Clicking Restore before you sync should return the iPod to the condition it was in when you first got it, eliminating any bugs etc. that might have occurred since then. If it still doesn't work afterwards, you should contact Apple as there may be a problem with the internal components.

I was updating my ipod mini with itunes and when i disconnected it, all my music was GONE!!!my playlists too! when i connected it back to itunes, it told me that there wasn't enough room on my ipod to store all my songs, which is impossible because all my songs and stuff fit on it before. oh yeah and it renamed itself, it used to be named joejoemonkey#2 and now it's named like JOEJOEMONKE and i havent ever name it that. i used to have like 766 songs on it but now it will only let me have 346. im soooooooo angry right now, someone please HELP!!!!!!

Step 3. Sync your music again.

  • My iPod reset itself and converted all of my music into files on the iPod's hard drive. How do I access them and get them back?

I made the mistake of disconnecting my iPod from my computer without ejecting it and now all of my music, podcasts and other files are listed as "other" in the iPod summary section. I can't access the files outside of iTunes (when the iPod is just being used as an external hard drive), so I need to know if there's any kind of third party program or other technique I can use to get this stuff back.

  • IPod reset itself, won't transfer files anymore

When I turned on my iPod after not using it for a day or so, all my songs were gone and it was back to the original settings. When I tried to put all my iTunes songs back on it, it wouldn't connect and now the iPod isn't even showing up on the desktop despite the fact that the iPod has the "do not disconnect" screen.

Hey! the same thing happened to me just recently I haven't fixed it yet, but the trouble shooting tips suggest making sure your ipod is up to date. Good luck with it.

  • My ipod keeps resetting itself when i plug it in to the computer, now what?

Basically, I plugged my ipod into my laptop as usual and itunes sprang up with an error message that i can't quite remember. I just remember that it mentioned a file corruption and that i should either restore the ipod settings or i should disconnect and reconnect it. I reconnected it and got the same result, then tried again. This time iTunes didn't recognise it all and within a minute of being connected my ipod reset itself. The laptop registers it, but my ipod just keeps resetting itself and i don't know what to do. I've tried resetting it and restoring default settings, so what more can i do or is a repair the only option?

Follow the steps mentioned in this article to disable the camera notification: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1501 , then try again to connect to iTunes.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
