IPod resets during video

Whenever I watch a TV episode on my iPod 80gb (Such as Family Guy or Chappelle Show) I run into a few issues on my iPod.
1. The episode always starts where I left off, never at the beginning.
2. When I press the back button, which either rewinds or restarts the episode, the screen freezes for about three seconds and restarts the iPod (the apple logo comes up).
This is incredibly frustrating because it happens every time! I cannot fast forward/rewind/or start from beginning without my iPod restarting.
Has anyone encountered this issue, if so is there any way to fix it? Or am I basically going to have to live with it?
-Thanks

I have got exactly the same problem with my iPod 30GB; as soon as I can, I'll update to 1.2.1. Hope it will solve the problem, but I don't know...

  • Ipod resets during sync

I can't get a good sync with my 5g 30gb. while syncing, it will automatically reset itself. I've tried a repair with copy trans doctor and it does the same thing, so the operation will not finish.

I am getting ready to send my classic back as well. Are you waiting for them to fix it or just getting rid of it? I had the 80g Video & loved it. I don'tknow why I was in such a rush to get this one. I am thinking of sending it back & trying to find a Video some where. As much as this one drives me nuts, I still hate to be without one.
I guess what I am wondering is, do I hold out that they can improve the calssic or try to find a Ipod video somewhere?

  • IPod resetting during first charge-up.

Hello, sorry for potentially reposting this, but I don't beleive it's been addressed.
Just this afternoon i picked up a brand new video iPod. I installed the software, restarted my computer, and then connected the iPod to the computer. I've left the iPod connected for over an hour and a half, and since the very first minute it has been resetting itself about once a minute, and giving me the sad iPod symbol. Unfortunately, all help topics on the apple page haven't helped me out at all.
Also, within the last few minutes, when it resets, there's a loud clicking noise. Seeing as how I haven't handled an iPod in years, I don't know if this is normal or not. Any help?

Sounds like you have a bad hard drive. If you can't do a Restore of the software (using the iPod updater) - you need to take it to an Apple store or the place where you bought it.
    Sorry!

  • Touch is resetting during video playback

I was watching a podcast on my iPod Touch and it seems that every 4-5 minutes or so it will reset itself. Is this a widespread issue?

I have yet to even mess with my brightness. It's on the default level. This also happened while my screen was turned off while I listened to music. It just stops, and goes to the home screen.
Even if it was on full brightness, you should still be able to listen to more than 3 songs straight through. I'm so ****** right now. This iPod has had so many problems. I will never buy an Apple product when it first comes out again.

  • Ipod Restarts during videos

I just got a new Ipod last night. Between then and tody I loaded a couple videos on it that I downloaded from Itunes. I downloaded them just for the purpose of seeing if the Ipod would play them. All seemed ok - I got them loaded on after light troubleshooting, but when I go to play the videos from my Ipod, the Ipod will restart after about 20 seconds. The video loads fine, looks and sounds awesome, then all the sudden you get the black screen with the apple logo. I have tested this with more then one video.
Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? I really want to figure this out, as the video feature is what pushed me into buying this.
    Thanks in advance!

I noticed that, while the Ipod is plugged in and ejected from Itunes, it will play an entire video with no flaws.
It is only when I am running off the battery that I have this problem. I thought maybe my battery was shot, but, after the Ipod restarts, the battery meter is still full, and I can start playing songs from there with no troubles.
So it would seem this re-starting problem only happens when I am running off the battery - but not when I am plugged into my USB.
Should I still give that Ipod Updater a shot? Or does this sound like it might be something else?

  • Ipod resets during song update

When I connect the iPod to the PC and start updating songs, the ipod reboots after a while.
Not just that, but the ipod will show something like 1gb of used space and only 50 songs (just an example, it hasn't gotten this serious.)
worst... when this happened the first time i tried restoring the ipod, and it died. updating the firmware resulted in an ipod with only manual disk mode accessible.
i've tried both frontal and back USB ports, nothing worked. any ideas ?

Quoting the following page : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330174&sd=RMVP
    a. In Windows Explorer, right-click your hard-disk, and then click Properties.
    b. Click the Hardware tab.
    c. Click the hard disk, and then click Properties.
    d. Click the Policies tab.
    e. Click to clear the Enable write caching on the disk check box, and then click OK two times.
did this to the iPod and everything worked fine while transfering 500 or so files.

  • IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • Docked iPod only outputs sound during video to TV

I have a 5G iPod in an Apple dock, connected to my TV using a Monster audio cable and an S-Video cable. For some reason, it only outputs sound during videos or a photo slide show - not at all for music only playback. I'm baffled! Any idea why? It's a Panasonic plasma, and I've tried three different inputs. None work for music, but video is fine.

The iPhone 4, unlike iPod, doesn't ask you to set for PAL or NTSC.  In fact, in the SETTINGS/Video menu it only asks if you want to "Start Playing From Beginning", "Closed Captioning" and "Home Sharing".  I was surprised it had no settings like the iPod at all.

  • Why did my iPod  reset itself when I was trying to watch a video?

    Hi Everyone,
I was watching a video on my ipod and I got halfway through the video and the Ipod reset itself. My iPod is okay after it reset itself. I was wondering has this happened to anyone else and what can I do to fix it?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    lizabler

    Hey lizabler!
I personally haven't experiened this specific thing myself, by I have certainly read issues like your quite a few times on the Discussions.
When your iPod resets itself in this kind of case, this happens usually because, while you're playing a video on your iPod, it's not being able to continuouly load and play that video fast enough to actually play the video at a normal speed.
This can be caused by the iPod's battery.
How charged/discharged was your iPod around the time when your iPod reset itself? Try letting your iPod's battery fully die, then let it recharge for a full 3 hours, and see if this ever happens again.
Also, if this ever happens again, have you tried resetting your iPod several times? (holding the "Menu" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds)
Sometimes your iPod resetting itself can also be caused by your iPod's memory being highly used. For example, if you have a 60 GB iPod, and you've used up 54 GB of it already, this can sometimes somehow bog up the iPod, causing it to act strangely.
If this iPod-resetting-itself behavior recurrs, and resetting the iPod several times doesn't help, try restoring your iPod to factory settings -> How to restore your iPod
I hope that info helps you.

  • My iPOD will not display visual during Video Playback - only Audio.  Help!

My movies and TV shows are successfully downloaded from iTUNES and successfully synched to my iPOD, however, when I attempt to playback on my iPOD, I can only hear the content and not see it. The only thing I see is the movie album cover and the name of the movie and that is all. Any suggestions are appreciated.
    thanks.

On the menu of your iPod go to Videos> Video Settings> and turn TV Out to off. Hopefully this will help.

  • Psychedelic screen artifacts during video

During video playback, the pod started "messing up" the image. At first, it was the centers of the letters on the beginning credits blacking out. Then, areas of solid black were being replaced by pink and purple -- well, this video was encoded as grayscale so there is no purple. This video had previously played fine on the Mac and an older video ipod. To see if maybe the video file itself had become corrupted, I tried a different movie (in color), one from iTunes store. Video on this one was totally psychedelic, and then the frame began shifting. "Horizontal Hold" was slipping, if you are old enough to know what that means. Lol.
A reset of the pod fixed it up. Anyone else have a problem like this? I just hope it doesn't keep recurring....

Make sure you're running Touch software 1.1.2.
You might want to restore it once with 1.1.2 to see if that helps.
I've not really seen this since the pre-1.1.2 days...

  • Ipod resets

I use ipod nano 8GB 6th generation to listen to audio books during my daily carpool commutes.
During the weekends when the ipod is in standby mode  it loses its  location of the book and resets it self which is very inconvenient, since I have to search for the chapter which I was at before again.
Is ther any solution for this issue

If it's just this one video then it could mean that the file is corrupt. What about others, or music, does it do the same thing?
If it's at the end of everything you play that the iPod resets itself, then it could be an indicator of a more general problem.
Try these basic troubleshooting steps one at a time.

  • Ipod 5th gen, video 30bg, will sync/restore, won't play

I am running Windows 7, with all updates (as of 3/14/2014) have itunes 11.1.5.5 showing no available updates. When I plug into the USB port, the ipod gets recognized, Itunes starts. I can see the files on the ipod. I have reset the ipod and restored. Same problem. When I drill down to the actual file I want to listen to, it doesn't play. On the screen the icon changes from pause to the arrow for play, the index line never advances. You can hit the select button, use the scroll wheel to advance through the file, and hit play again, but no noise. There isn't noise if in the dock (which other ipods and iphones work with in the house) there is no noise if the headphones are plugged in. i was thinking harddrive, so I replaced it. couldn't get the new one to function. When the new harddrive was in the unhappy face would come up. I could force into disk mode, in hopes of restoring it, but in disk mode, neither windows and hence itunes would recognize it as an ipod. I put the old hard drive back in thinking maybe I damaged the cable, but it came right up, but with the same problem, it won't play the sounds... I replaced the Zif cable just in case, still the same...
i've sure seen lots of Ipod 5th gen video for sale on Ebay, compared to the 4th that I had, which I broke the scroll wheel cable on, but never had such problems with it. Any thoughts out there from someone who might know what it's doing? It seems weird that it loads the music files, and deletes the music files but won't play them. The only other thing I can think of perhaps is the battery too low to spin the hard drive up to play? It does seem to be a very small (physically) battery compared to the 4th gen... but it is thicker...
When I got it it was doing the low power thing, so I did all the steps to re-charge, and restore, but it won't play the files... Thanks for any thoughts!
    Jesse

It sound like you did some good troubleshooting.  Thanks for providing the details.  I don't think a problem like this is related to the battery.
With a 5th gen iPod (early version) that has a 30GB hard drive, it may have problems using a larger capacity hard drive.  That may explain the different problem you had when you replaced the hard drive, if you changed the capacity.
Try the following test.  Do another Restore from the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  At the end of the Restore process, choose NOT to sync anything automatically.
Go to the iTunes Store and download a free song.  You can find the current free songs by clicking Free on iTunes under QUICK LINKS, on the iTunes Store Home screen.
Manually load that ONE song on the iPod.  Disconnect iPod and try to play that one song.  Does this same problem occur?

  • Dead iPod touch during 3.0 update process

Cross-posted to "iPod Touch" forum... But because another person had a similar problem with Vista as well, am posting here too in case someone can help...
...Not only during update to 3.0, but also during update to 2.2.1 and during a restore attempt 6 weeks ago. All 3 "dead" iPods have been replaced by Apple - I'd like a solution...
I have videoed the update taking place and the iPod dying during it - sadly it is in MOV format (439MB) and I cannot convert to an uploadable version for Youtube... By DEAD, I mean, no power and will not display ANYTHING on the screen. Simply won't power up again.
This is what happens: Download update using iTunes... Extracting software... Backing up iPod... Preparing the iPod for the software update... (iPod shows USB plug and CD - then apple logo...) then the updating progress line appears on iTunes and on touch. Updating iPod software... Verifying updated iPod software... Updating the iPod firmware... White progress line on iPod disappears after a few seconds and screen goes black. Error message displays on iTunes - "The iPod xxxx could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (6)"
iPod is now dead and needs to be replaced,
    1) Has anyone experienced this?
    2) Has anyone SOLVED it?
Maybe related is a problem with some videos that have happened recently (and were the cause of me trying to restore the iPod last time it died) MP4 (or MPV files) play for about 20-30 minutes, then screen goes white, then black, then apple logo appears, then iPod returns to home screen after about 30 seconds. My usual solution to this has been to remove all videos, photos (which are corrupted by this time), audio, and then re-sync back.
I'd appreciate ANY help please. I intend buying an iPhone soon and would like to know that the problem won't occur on that, every time I try to restore.
    Cheers!
