IPod resets on random songs...?

First of all, the new 80gb iPod w/ video, compared to a 3rd generation 40gb iPod, is ...amazing.
I've found that the iPod will restart itself randomly (well...sort of). There are certain songs that the iPod will restart itself. It begings to load the song, and then it resets and shows the Apple icon. Every single time I play that one song. Any other songs by the same artist, it is perfectly fine. Is there a reason it does this?

I have been having the same problem... AND I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SIMILARITY IN ALL OF MY PROBLEMATIC MP3'S...
THEY ARE ALL ENCODED IN MONO
I do not have any other type of file besides MP3's on my IPOD, and as of yet, I have not had this restarting problem with ANY of my files EXCEPT for EVERY ONE of them that is in MONO (as opposed to stereo).
When I have some time I will try to RE-encode these songs in Stereo, and reload them into my Ipod to see what will happen. But I'm going on vacation for a week and will not be able to do this for over a week. If anyone out there has the time, please try this and let us know how it works out.
For the time being, I am removing EVERY file that is encoded in Mono from my Ipod, and hopefully this problem will disappear.

  • IPod freezes on random songs.

I updated my iTunes to the newest version back in December for the first time since I got my iPod. Ever since then, random songs will cause my iPod to freeze. It's the same exact songs every time, and there's always a possibility of new songs doing it when I transfer in a new CD to my iPod.
What happens is my iPod will be playing normally. Then it gets to a certain point in a song and it completely freezes. No Apple logo, it just stays locked in that current song's screen. I have to reset my iPod every time it happens, and I often end up deleting the song from my iTunes to avoid further freezing. I've restored my iPod, and also deleted then re-added the songs... They didn't help.
I have no idea why this happens to only certain songs, but it's about one in every 20 I listen to. Very frustrating! How can I fix this?

  • Some songs sont play as Ipod resets on that song

hey guys i hace a very new Ipod Nano 2GB.i m using it with iTunes 4 point somethin.Myu problem is that most of the songs though are working properly, my ipod resets on a few selected songs and never plays them.every time i try to play those particular songs my Pod resets and the Apple logo appears...it restars but still doesnt play those songs,,,,,,,,please someone help...

As mentioned, you need to be using the correct iTunes version (iTunes 7 or later for the 2nd gen nano). Also, have you tried going through the "5 R's"? If not, you need to try them. Save the restore for last.

  • Ipod resets on same song

My iPod always resets itself at the same point of the same song without fail. I've manually reset the iPod, resynched, and still the same result. Before I delete the track and redownload, has anyone ever encountered this? This track plays fine in iTunes by the way.
In case you need to know, the track is Vermicide from the disc Amputechture by The Mars Volta. And it wasn't downloaded from iTunes, I used another (russian) site.
As an aside, my album artwork does not sync with 50% of the music. This will be another post but I thought I'd put it in here as well.
    Thanks all!!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song

my ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song and it won't reset either, can anyone help?
    ipod click   Windows 2000

There are three possible causes of skipping music after playing a bit of the song:
    1) the music on your computer is munged
    2) the music was munged as it transferred to your iPod
    3) the iPod is 'confused'
Listen to a couple songs on your computer - the same ones that are skipping on your iPod. Are they okay? Scratch problem 1 - otherwise you have some reripping to do, assuming you haven't backed them up.
Next, reset your iPod. If the music is still skipping then the fastest fix is to use your restore/upgrade software to restore the iPod. This will erase the music and re-install the iPod's operating system which will take care of possible problems 2 and 3.
If the iPod isn't resetting - first make sure you are following the reset instructions for your iPod. There are different methods for different generations. Also, sometimes it is best to reset with the iPod plugged in. Finally, make sure you don't have the hold button set.

  • IPod Synching random songs

Whenever I plug my iPod in to my Windows XP laptop, it beings synching about 291-293 random songs instead of simply the newest uploaded or altered tracks. I restored my iPod, and it synched correctly, until I changed its options regarding podcasts. After checking the option to upload ALL podcasts instead of all UNPLAYED, it began synching more than 200 songs unnecessarily again. What is going on?

    see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • IPod resets itself while trying to play certain songs.

For no specific reason, this has only happened so far with audio from my "Comedy" playlist. Either this is coincidental or my iPod lacks a sense of humor. Please let it be the former.
Anyway, when this occurs it takes me to the silvery Apple logo screen and the iPod resets. However, it only happens when I start to play the file. If I go through the list hitting the next button while on pause, there's no problem.
    Two questions:
    1) Has anyone else encountered this?
    2) Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to correct it?
As a side note, this also happened with my old monochromatic 20GB 4G iPod, but that issue was more randomly initiated, and was probably due to its failing battery.

This has been asked and answered a couple of times and I think that the same answer should help you out.
Seems like you're a victim of the 1.2 firmware bug. It's causing mp3 mono tracks (which I could very much believe some comedy routines would be encoded as) to reset your iPod. the only workaround at the moment seems to be to set your EQ to OFF (under Settings > EQ > OFF). That seems to work for some people.
Your other option is to try and reencode your tracks so they're not mono-mp3.
    I hope that helped. =)

  • Syncing iPod with library sometimes cripple the length of random songs.

    Hi!
This is my problem: Random songs sometimes are not at their full length on the iPod even though they are complete in my iTunes library on my PC. After a forced sync the songs that previously weren't complete appears complete but suddenly another song or more aren't complete. I have alot of free space on my iPod and I've set the iPod to automatically sync with my library and playlists. This problem seems to appear a bit now and then but not in any regular way as far as I've seen yet. The iPod software is the latest (3.1) and so is iTunes. My iPod is the one with dock connector and click wheel (40GB version). OS is Win XP PRO SP2. Does anyone have any idea?
This is one example: One song that is 2 min 58 sec long appeard as only 2 min 4 sec on the iPod. It played without any problem until 2:04 when it ended...on my PC it was 2:58 and played it's whole length. I restarted the iPod, rebooted (select +play/pause) but no success. Re-syncning helped. That particular song had been complete on my iPod earlier...it seems arbitrary =)
I've no weird plugin or 3rd party program. Just iTunes.

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum. iSync is for syncing Contacts and Calendars to mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing to do with iPods or iTunes.

  • Audio playback randomly freezes on iPod, skips to next song in iTunes.

When I'm listening to music on my iPod, at a random point in certain songs the audio will suddenly cut out, the play progress bar and time keeper will freeze, and yet the icon indicates that the song is still playing. When listening to those songs through iTunes, at the same points rather than freezing up, it will simply skip to the next song, similar to what it would do if I had edited the options to make the song end sooner than it normally would. I have gone through these songs and checked that option under the "get info" menu and the song end time has not been altered. What has happened to my music, and is there any way to fix it short of whiping out half my library and starting from scratch?

I’ve read reports from many other iTunes users who are having the same issue I am.  Please read on...
When listening to songs that I purchased from iTunes (as opposed to those I imported from CD), several, but not all, of them stop playing prematurely several seconds (or even minutes) before the end of the tune.  Playback jumps immediately to the beginning of the next tune.
I noticed this, I believe, shortly after moving my iTunes library to a new iMac (3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB memory) running iTunes 10.5.3 (3) on Mac OS 10.7.3.  Everything was fine before the move.
Of the 283 purchased songs in my iTunes library, about 100 of them exhibit this behavior.  The song playback times at which this happens range from 2:14 to 5:19.
What is interesting, is that tunes from the same album all end at the same playback time!  For example, I purchased the whole album “River - The Joni Letters” (Herbie Hancock’s album covering a number of Joni Mitchell tunes).  Every song from that album now stops playing at 3:39.  The same happens with other tunes that happen to be from the same album, too.  I have no idea why this would be the case, but it certainly seems significant.
Another interesting finding, is that if I copy one of tunes exhibiting this issue to the desktop and play it from there, the song plays all the way through to the end without a problem.  This would, I think, rule out a corrupt file and tend to point to iTunes itself as the source of the problem.
The problem certainly is annoying, and it would be great if we could find some resolution and get back to enjoying our music without the mind-jarring bump that too often now happens without warning.
    Sincerely,
    Michael Loomis

  • Random songs missing from ipod touch

    Hi
I have an iPod touch 4 and for no particular reason, a load of random songs have disappeared.
Every album is missing songs, some just one or two but some just have 1 song remaining!
I haven't synced my iPod for weeks because my computer is broken and is currently away getting fixed.
Could it be because I haven't synced it? I can't understand why that would be though.
I did buy an album recently via my iPod itunes so could this have anything to do with it? I'm honestly not sure if the songs went missing before or after I bought this.
I just really don't understand how it could have happened and it's really fustrating as I've now lost my itunes as my hard drive failed. Does this mean that all of the music I had is gone forever?!
    Thanks

As I said, my harddrive failed and I have lost everything off the computer.
And most of the stuff wasn't bought from itunes, it's imported from CDs, a lot of which I don't have anymore for various reasons.

  • My Ipod resets/restarts when I skip songs, help

I don't know if you guys had the same problem. But when I skip some amount of songs, the Ipod resets itself showing the 'Apple' logo and takes me back to the menu.
Do any of you have the problem? Apple staff, is there an Apple updater to fix this?

    Alan,
This is most likely a software issue on your ipod. If you restore it, it would eliminate the software issue on the ipod, and barring that, your ipod would have to be sent in to be repaired/replaced, because it would be a hardware issue.
Also, over the next little while, there should be a new version of the software out for the nano / video ipod... so keep your eyes out for that.
    Have a good one,
    Matt

  • 5G iPod resets while listening to playlists?

Any help would be appreciated on this. At home, I recently upgraded to iTunes 7. I am also current with my iPod upgrades.
Since then, my 5G iPod (30GB) has started resetting itself seemingly randomly while I am listening to music - the song stops and the black screen/silver apple show up, then it goes back to my top-level menu.
None of my music is missing, and I haven't had any audio trouble. I am wondering, however, if having iTunes 7 at home and iTunes 6 at work (they won't let us download software upgrades) is causing some sort of system conflict.
Any advice? Is this just simply a question of rebooting the thing?
    Thx.

I have this same problem with a couple of podcasts: Democracy Now and le show.
by any chance, are those podcasts mono mp3s? if so, it might be worth trying the workaround from this document:
